i feel like when the jets fly over. >> a violent gas main explosion throws a fireball 200 feet into the air. >> that blast at a central valley gun range could be heard for miles around and shutdown highway 99 for hours. good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm katie. ama daetz is off tonight. it happened in fresno. the fire just feet from the highway. >> katie is at the inferno live tonight. she has the latest for us. >> reporter: the flames soared into the sky in fresno as a match gas pipeline ruptured. >> it was like a really loud bomb. >> drivers recorded the scene at 2:thifort -- 2:30 in the afternoon. >> they had us evacuate and that's when i got worried. >> operating a front end loader at the firing range one of the many injured during the blast. >> as a result he was blown away from the front loader.

>> this video from the fresno city firefighters facebook page shows the roadway and the dirt birm where the tractor travelers. two deputies watched the tractor work. >> according to them the last thing they saw him doing was just driving along this roadway. >> 10 fresno county jail inmates cleaning up a range were also injured. >> one inmate who appears to be hurt the worst of all of them was airlifted. >> and now a massive crater with a charred tractor in the middle remains. it is unclear if the tractor punctured the 12-inch underground line or drove over it. pg&e says contractors are required to call the state's hotline. that's two days before any work so the gas water and power lines can be marked. there is no record of a call. meanwhile, the deputies already at the gun range. >> they ran toward this immense heat and immense fire and got everybody out of the way and rendered aid.

>> they have been treated for sunburn-like injuries to their arms and ringing in their ears. >> both fresno fire and pg&e are investigating. many of the key witnesses are hospitalized in critical condition. it is expected to be a lengthy investigation. in fresno, abc7 news. >> here is a close up look at the charred front loader destroyed by the fire. you can see the tires have melted off the rims and the engine compartment is completely burned out. >> it is incredible, really. the fire was so hot it warped the nearby train tracks. you can see how the blast melted and twisted the rails. >> pg&e tweeted out this message. it reads "our thoughts and prayers are with those who were injured. # fresno. sphie a fast-moving fire damaged two homes in southern california. this is san pedro that is outside long beach where a palm tree fire quickly spread to homes. it broke out before 5:00. you can see the roof of one home burning along with

several other buildings. gusts whipped up the flames and made it that much tougher to fight. more than 130 firefighters and even a helicopter had to be called in to put out that fire. >> in millbrae police are trying to find a man accused of stealing a car and then running over the car's owner. they say antonio ambres took a white acura left running and when the victim came out of the house the suspect hit him with the car and ran him over. the victim went to the hospital with nineer injuries. with minor injuries. police believe he is in millbrae or stockton. police in santa rosa are investigating an attempted kidnapping of a 9-year-old girl. this is what the girl told police yesterday afternoon after school the man watched her go into the restroom and then grabbed her wrist when she walked out. the girl was able to kick and yell and then run away thank goodness. the man left in an older light brown car with a cracked driver's side window. >> monday is a holiday of

sorts. the date 4/20 means marijuana for some people. thousands gather in golden gate park to smoke pot. it is not a good time for those who work and drive in the area. it will be shutdown from stanion to lincoln. sergio is live with the story. >> katie it will be shutdown to just one lane of traffic so police can have easy access through here in case there is an emergency and so they can keep an eye on a lot of the pedestrian traffic that is expected for the 4/20 day festivities. >> from sky 7hd a mostly empty hill but this is the massive crowd that showed up last year. estimated at more than 15,000 people with the huge crowd came a few problems. >> we did have some issues with mostly traffic and we had one shooting. >> they are expecting smaller crowds this year because it

falls on a monday. more streets will be closed and more officers will be brought in. >> they say it was not good for the local businesses. >> we had to do a number of street closures and it negatively impacted some of our merchants along the corridor. >> we spotted a um could of shops welcoming the 4/20 day crowds, but some say it is not much fun especially when the massive crowds leave. >> people are coming in making scenes. >> he says stoners glom on to the statue at the store and what thehey think is the devil. one worker said she will be filling in for co-workers who are are taking monday off. >> i am not thinking about it. i will work and see how it goes. >> because it is not a sponsored event the city picks up the tab for traffic management. abc7 news.

t. tomorrow the california water board will issue new regulations forcing communities to cut back on water use. abc7 news was in morgan hill. the community has been asked to make the biggest cut. 35%. the city has asked the water board to reconsider. they cut use by 21% and they are not sure what else they can do to reduce water use. >> i don't know what else we can do. we have the low flow water already and we always use water that is essential. we don't use any extra. >> the cut back is mandatory. residents could be fined up to $500 for violating it. now if you think you see water being wasted where you live e-mail us. we will check it out and look at as many tips as we possibly can. the drought brings low water levels which cause a toxic algae problem. it happened in february in castro valley and now it is happening along the san

this is abc7 news. >> fence jumpers at the white house may face one more obstacle to reap the highly secure grounds. they want to attach steel spikes to the perimeter fence. it is a temporary fix as security considers a more long-term solution. last september a man jumped the fence and he made it to an unlocked door and into the mansion. the security measure still needs approval from the capitol planning commission. a strange incident on a southwest flight leaving chicago. before takeoff a passenger attacking another with a pen. that woman escorted off the plane, but why was she so agitated? here is abc news reporter. >> this pen turned into a weapon of sorts on a man who was snoring. >> imagine being asleep and then being stunning by bees and waking up and going owe.

airport. a car burglary nearly ruined a teen's dream of a perfect prom. luckily the sheriff's office stepped up to save the day. a thief broke into her car and stole her purse. it contained all of the money the high school senior saved to buy a prom dress. deputies tracked down the burglar, but the money was gone. the saw though ma county deputy sheriff association passed the hat and raised enough to send her to the prom. the suspect was booked on seven counts of auto burglary and possession of stolen property and id theft. there is no way to say it, but one east bay city is going to the birds. for the past 50 years students at piedmont high school have been doing bird calls and competing for the number one scwawk -- scwawk or -- squack or chirp. here is the contest. >> who said bird calling is a lost art? at piedmont high school it is

drastic cooling at the coast. you probably felt it. temperatures like half moon bay and pacifica were only in the 50s. you were in the 70s. a good 20-degree drop. live doppler 7hd shows you you were socked in along the coast. it is starting to push in past the coastline. the temperatures in the 40s and 50s. the only spot where you can find some mild weather is well inland. the exploratorium camera is showing you the fog over the financial district. this is how your morning will start out. a wide range of temperatures this weekend and we are looking at a slight chance, a slight chance of a few showers the middle of next week. overnight tonight you will see the fog pushing in over parts of the bay. and then tomorrow afternoon notice it doesn't quite budge. it stays near the beaches. if you like the fog then you are in luck. sunshine for the inland and bayside communities. the high pressure is still going to hang on for inland areas. that means staying warm there. it is a lot like today.

we had the mid80s today. 80s inland and staying cool along the coastline on sunday. warm inland. notice on monday the inland areas start to see a drop in the temperatures. we will see mostly 70s and 80s and lingering clouds near the beaches. tomorrow morning if you have early plans taking a run you will probably fts there is fog and it is perfect weather for that. as far as the afternoon is concerned really a nice day in the south bay. 81 in gilroy and 79 san jose and 76 in sun thee veil. mid70s palo alto and 57 in pacifica and the fog will hang around. 58 daly city. north bay 50s along the coast and you will see most low 70s and 80s elsewhere. santa rosa 78. a great day in the wine country. napa 79. east bay 72 and oakland 74. newark inland areas much like today, 84 in livermore and 82 concord. the sun will be shining and
