on crestview drive and melody drive. this happened about an hour ago and you can see several police officers are at the scene along with other emergency vehicles. we don't have any word yet on the condition of the victim and we'll stay on the story and bring you more information as we get it and for breaking news updates follow us on twitter on abc 7 news bay area. an all-out search is happening for a missing 17-year-old from cupertino cupertino. connor sullivan showed up for class and has not been seen since. abc 7 news reporter chris nguyen joins us now from cupertino. >> reporter: according to his parents connor has never gone missing before nor did he have any reason to be upset. if you take a look behind me, you can see some of the volunteers that have assembled here at monty vista high school. this search effort being coordinated by the community emergency response team of cupertino attempts to track connor's phone has failed and several classmates have been

interviewed, but no leads have developed. >> at the stephen's creek dam and reservoir in cupertino. >> connor! >> volunteers hoping to track down a missing teenage boy. >> we've been all over the ridge. we went over the back side of the dam looking in the water and everywhere and have been calling his name. >> 17-year-old connor sullivan was last seen on monday at monty vista high school. the three-sport sparsity athlete seen here attended his first period class and he didn't show up to any of his remaining classes and nor did he attend track practice. >> he's a quiet leader and everyone respects him and this is unforeseen and absolutely out of the blue. >> the santa clara county's sheriff's office is calling this an open investigation but do not suspect foul lay at this time. late this afternoon, connor's parents thanked the community for its support, but now a new concern. >> i'm just afraid that somehow he's somewhere else outside of

where we're searching. i'm just hoping he stayed near home. i just want him home. i just want my baby home. sullivan's coaches are out here today trying to get the word out. >> it's such a departure from the connor that we've come to know and love, and the unknown is the scary part of it. >> volunteers will continue searching into the evening. in cupertino, chris nguyen, abc 7 news. fairfield police are giving their side of the story tonight after criticism from the parents of a boy who officers found safely. 8-year-old brock guzman was inside the family's running car when it was stolen from outside his home on monday. the guzman family released this cell phone video and say they will file a complaint against officers who investigated claiming that i treated the family like criminals. fairfield police tell abc 7 news tonight that the problem began when profs tried to get inside the guzman's home after spotting

what appeared to be blood. >> the mother stood up and pushed past the officer who was standing by her and pushed past the officer and tried to enter the house and at that point we're concerned for what's going on in that house and we stopped her from going into the house and that's where the scuffle broke out. the guzmans say they didn't want police inside the home because they have a dog that bites. >> neighbors rushed to the rescue during an apartment fire in martinez that sent a woman to the hospital. flames damaged a total of four units at the mission pines apartment complex. the early morning fire was huge by the time it was discovered and 911 was called. this is cell phone video of that fire. this was captured by olin stillwell. you can see how enormous that fire was and neighbors yelled to each other to evacuate. some stayed behind to help others who couldn't get out quickly. >> there was a lady that was stuck. i asked other neighbors to come, kick the door open and that's how they got her out. >> she was frantic, but she's fine. the ambulance took her.

>> she was taken to the police officer. a police officer was treated on the the scene. it has helped east palo alto families for 40 years. someone broke in yesterday, taking the batteries and leaving the non-profit without a way to collect donated food. lyanne mel end ez is live in east palo alto with the story. >> it happened around 2:00 in the morning yesterday. the man apparently hid behind this tree while he was trying to cut through this fence which of course, he did. he walked in and went through the parking lot and then broke into those two vans. this surveillance video shows a man walking toward the van. he breaks the window, reaches inside and opens the door. a few minutes later he leaves with a bag of what we now know are car batteries and other goods. that morning the staff at the acumennical hunger program in

east palo alto found a hole in the fence and the two vans vandalized. >> we found the van open, the window busted out and the hoods were popped open on both vehicles. >> they are essential to pick up food, deliver furniture and transfer kids. >> it stops the flow of the program and we use the cargo van to pick up the food donations and like costco, trader joe's and sprouts. >> they were handed out to families in east palo alto and menlo park. people here found it hard to believe that anyone would steal from this organization which does so much for the community. >> it had to be somebody who is desperate or on drugs or something like that because, i mean everybody in this community knows this place. >> with the organization like this that's helping the community and our children, it's really a shame for somebody to come in here and to just vandalize things like that. >> and late this afternoon

sears offered to donate those two batteries and the organization is now hoping that someone will donate the money to replace those two windows. i'm live in east palo alto, liearoundlie lyanne lyanne melendez, abc 7 news. carmel police pulled over brandon kullon tock on monday. police found evidence linking him to the bank robbery. they found a purse and a locket that police say were work by a man dressed as a woman who robbed the u.s. bank in santa cruz and that's why they call this the mrs. doubtfire robbery. the man was booked in the santa cruz county jail. the proposed coliseum hosted a public forum today. floyd gephardt outlined his vision for the project which includes stadiums for the raiders and the as as well as retail and office space and the major issue is money.

gephardt says up to $200 million of public money will be needed to upgrade infrastructure for the project which he says could be one of the best developments of its kind in the country. >> we are here because we see the opportunity to be a part of something that will change the face of the city and the region. >> the forum comes a day after the city council in carson approved plans for a $1.7 billion stadium in southern california for the raiders and the san diego chargers. raiders owner mark davis says he wants the raiders to stay in oakland, but is keeping his options open. neither davis or the ownership has commented for today's meeting and we'll have reaction on oakland city officials on abc 7 news at 6:00. >> meantime the warriors are in new orleans getting ready for tomorrow's game against the pelicans and the game took off from the big easy and landed a while ago and they sent us this video. the warriors can take a commanding lead in the best of seven series with the win at the smoothie king center in new

orleans tomorrow night. monday night the doves beat a determined pelicans team 97 to 87 to take a 2-0 lead in the best of 7 series and tomorrow's game tips off at 6:30 p.m. and keep in mind abc 7 news sports reporter mike schumann is in new orleans with the team. he tweeted this with abe mendoza. we'll have a preview on aishs 7bc 7 news at 6:00 and follow schumann for his perspective. police are looking for a woman. that's not for a crime. they want to say thank you. a woman left a note on the patrol car. the note thanked officers for risking their lives every day. she also mentioned the death of san jose officer michael johnson who was shot and killed while responding to a call for a despondent man. they reached out to the san jose police department to help track lauren down. they now know who she is but have yet to connect with her, but what she did was really nice. absolutely. >> coming up next on abc 7 news

a radioactive drone landed

on the roof of the prime minister of japan. members of his staff spotted the four-propel peller drone, and alerted authorities. the drone was equipped with a small camera and a plastic bottle containing small traces of radioactive material. the prime minister was out of the country at the time at an international conference in indonesia. a controversial bill requiring all children in california to be vaccinated advanced in the state legislature today. the proposal passed by the senate education committee would eliminate california's personal belief and religious exemption. it allows medical waivers only for children who have health problems. hundreds of parents who oppose mandatory vaccinations packed the capitol building during the hearing. it must now approve that bill. >> happy earth day. in case you didn't know it is earth day. some students at santa clara university decided that shorter showers would help. >> another university is trying to help people save water a different way. abc 7 news reporter david louie

has more from uc santa cruz with this tail tale of two campuses. >> some students admit they take five to ten-minute showers and as part of earth day, students were asked to cut their showers by 60 seconds left. they cast aside modesty to demonstrate a water-saving navy shower. students were asked to sign a pledge banner. >> once they sign it they get to take home a wristband they could be wearing in the shower and it will prompt them to remember, take the 60 secondses less off your shower. the shower demonstration was a good way to bring attention to the drought to students who don't get a monthly bill and monitor their usage and it's all about awareness and knowing how long you're showering and it's raising awareness to people. >> technicians are installing devices that will give students and faculty their water use on a daily basis delivered right to their smartphone and computer screen. it represents a $48,000

investment on the water use cutback. the device sends usage data by sell signals before the data was compiled monthly. >> by providing information to the students not on just their own dorm's usage and i think it will create a competitive environment. the santa cruz system can detect potential leaks. >> we're using the systems on the faculty housing and our science labs, too because they're heavy water user, too and they can be made on faculty homes and science labs that can impact how much water is used on the system. >> it's the first to be deployed and being serve as a model for others. in santa cruz david louie abc 7 news. san francisco is set to roll out 60 shiny new muni busses like this, when the all-electric busses go into service next week passengers will notice the redesigned interior. the big innovation is the hood. the busses can be unhooked from overhead wires and travel on

battery power for seven miles. muni expects to replace its entire speet with busses over the next five years? they look good. >> a bill that would extend protection to widows fighting per closure faces an uncertain future. >> why banks won't talk to the widows about their mortgage. >> they're not on the original paperwork. >> i first told you about widow foreclosures last year and they often won't talk to people like deion and lisa booker of american canyon. they inherited their home and went on the original mortgage. their story is not unusual. the bill that would extend protection to widows could be killed by the state assembly's banking committee on monday. the chamber of commerce has criticized the job killer claiming it would encourage more lawsuits. supporters question that logic. >> keeping people in their homes who can afford to stay in their homes who have a right to live in the home which is the case

for the folks who we're talking about is not only good for the family, it's good for their community and we think it's good for the economy. >> the california reinvestment coalition is calling for the chamber of commerce chair of one west bank to remove the bill from the jobs killer list. >> bicycles is recalling nearly 1 million bicycles. an accident that left one cyclist paralyzed is blamed on a quick-release lever that can interfere with disk brakes. the bikes were made between 2 thousand thousand and 2015 in china and taiwan. the lever will be replaced for free for those people who bring their bikes in and cyclists will receive a $20 coupon for accessories. >> a new mileage plus program designed to encourage alaska airline passengers who print their own baggage tags at home is available in the bay area only at oakland international airport.

at least for now. the idea for alaska miles planned customers to print their own tags and attach them to their own luggage. passengers can then take the luggage to express drop-off points at the airport and when they do that they receive 1,000 bonus miles. the program is not yet available at san francisco international or down in san jose, but alaska's website says the service will be at those airports soon. the free mileage offer expires on october 20th so you might want to get into it sooner rather than later. why wait? >> michael thank you. >> let's go outside and talk about the weather. absolutely gorgeous. >> meteorologist sandhya patel, it looks breezy, sandhya? >> it is indeed cheryl and dan and a pleasant day out here. a little bit of a breeze and some sun and clouds. it's earth day. we couldn't ask for better weather. check out my graphic here as we take a look here around the globe. a good-looking day here in the bay area did start off with some drizzle. you probably remember using your

wipers this morning but the sun broke through and the temperatures came up. we got up into the low 07s for some of the warmest spots and it managed to get up to 77 degrees and along the coast in the 50s. as you look at live doppler hd and north of the lake county area we were seeing or the clear lake area we were seeing showers and thunderstorms but they have dissipated. numerous showers and thunderstorms and high elevation snow showing up there and a few drops on the lens from our lake tahoe camera as you'll notice a very dark sky and 59 in san francisco francisco. 62 in oakland and 65 in san jose and half moon bay 55 degrees and the tower camera showing you half and half as far as the sky blue and some clouds there. 69 in santa rosa, looking at a temperature of 53 and fairfield, livermore, beautiful skyline from the east bay hills camera and we'll hang out to the clouds on various levels for the next

few hours and mostly sunny tomorrow and clouds will be on the increase friday and here's what's really exciting, trending wetter early saturday and there were hints of that last night and now it looks like it's going to materialize. here's what we're going to keep the showers and thunderstorms in the mountains with the low pressure system moving in. there's another system that we're watching and that will be coming out of the gulf of alaska producing showers for us here in the bay area on saturday. so here's the computer animation. tomorrow afternoon you'll see occasional high clouds passing through and the weather will be a lot like today in terms of our temperatures and by friday night the northern portion of the state wants to see some rain. it starts to slide southward early saturday morning so we start to see some wet ground when most of you are sleeping and 8:00 a.m. you're looking at showers across the bay area and before lunch the stuff should be out of here and less than a tenth of an inch as far as the amounts. snow levels will start out at 7,000 feet and they'll be

dropping to 6,000 on saturday. >> tomorrow morning, a cooler start and you will need to bundle up. low 40s to low 50s and if your kids are heading off to school they'll need a jacket and sweater as well. for the afternoon, it looks nice mild, 76 livermore and 78 antioch and 68, oakland, richmond, and 74 napa and 79 santa rosa. half moon bay 59 degrees and accuweather seven-day forecast and mild day tomorrow. cooler on friday and we start to see those showers appearing on saturday with the temperatures coming down and then recovering on sunday near 80 inland and low 60s coast. by next week it will be back to the mild to warm pattern with 60s at the coast and low 80s inland, but it's really great to see showers on the accuweather seven-day forecast, dan and cheryl. >> it sure is. >> coming up next a nurse's surprise. the moment one patient wanted to share with her that left everybody in tears. >> new at 6:00 imagine being able to drink from any fresh

covering los altos, antioch, petaluma and all the bay area, this is abc 7 news. well if you've ever needed proof that nurses care deeply about the patients they work with, this video is it. a texas mother showed how her daughter surprised one of her favorite nurses. [ screaming ] >> oh my goodness! >> yes! thank you, lord! thank you! >> is that not the sweetest thing ever. >> she was paralyzed from the waist down for 11 days with no explanation as to why. she started walking last week and the nurse didn't know about her progress until that very moment. it was an emotional scene for everyone there obviously. people commenting online that the video was just wonderful and they commended the nurse and all
