helped with batting. this case has drug on nor than a decade. he was linked to a company called baco. he was asked in 2003 if his trainer ever gave him something that required him to inject it. he responded in a meandering way and was also indicted for his testimony. the jury deadlocked on all other accounts except the one charging bonds with lie together grand jury. he was sentenced to 30 days he at home and while the while appealed his conviction and the court ruled that his vague answer to the grand jury did not affect the case against valco and they overturned his conviction. we interviewed scott osler. he was not surprised, in fact saying the conviction was unfair. >> over the years i've over in r known him. i haven't heard him give any kind of answer that isn't round about oirn vasive. that's the way he talks.

theater in brentwood. one man had a gun and ordered youngsters to give up their valuables. police believe the same men committed another robbery in brentwood later that night and one in antioch. >> the hunger program helped east palo alto family for 40 years but now someone broke into their two vans taking batteries and leaving that nonprofit without a way to collect donated food. abc 7 news reporter has that story from east palo alto tonight. >> reporter: around 2:00 in the morning surveillance video shows a man breaking into the parking lot. he walks towards a van breaks the window reaches inside and opens the back door. you can't really make out his face but you can see he is carrying several bags. inside are car batteries and other items. >> we found the back door to our cargo van open the window busted poupt we could cecisee see that the hoods were popped ep on both vehicles. >> these vans are used to move

on monday. he met the victim when he busted her for prostitution in 2002. she said she gave him $450,000 paying partially for his mortgage and property taxes. investigators say he promised her they would get married when he retired. she did not know he was involved in illegal activity before retiring in 2013. >> desperate plea from the parents of a missing cupertino teenager as a frantic search goes on. 17-year-old sullivan showed up for his first period class monday morning but then disappeared. dozens of volunteers are searching for him right now. >> i'm just afraid that somewhere else outside we're searching. i hope he is safe near home. i just want him home. i want my baby home.

>> the santa clara sheriff's office is calling this an open investigation but does not suspect foul play. the search will continue into the evening. >> police say they didn't do anything wrong in response to claims from the family of a missing boy who say that officer treated them like criminals. police found 8-year-old brock hours after an amber alert was sent out. officers are seen throwing the mother on the ground and putting her in handcuffs. police tell abc 7 news it was necessary. >> the mom's actions gave us no choice. officers had to go through her to get through the front door. we are concerned it is crime scene. when she physically pushes past an officer we have little close than to deescalate the situation situation. >> the guzman's say they didn't want police inside the home

house committee hearing saying that she discovered 13,000 compensation and disability claims dating back to the early 1990s. stashed away in a filing cabinet at the v.a. office in oakland. california congressman jerry mcnerny who is on the house committee tells abc 7 it is critical for employees like brown to come forward. >> the regional officer said she was thrilled when somebody came forth as a whistleblower which is quite surprising for someone in management to say. so that tells me they really don't have control of the situation there. >> mcnerny said he suggest maendagement plan to get that situation under control. the committee is looking into charges of benefit delays and v.a. offices in oakland and philadelphia as well. >> have you ever heard of a navy shower? coming up, the drastic measure that some bay area students are taking to conserve water. plus technology that shows how much you're saving without waiting for the bill. >> federal regulators are coming up with modern ways for you to

planners say they are not discouraged by developments in the city of carson and southern california. the council there moving ahead with plans to build a flashy new stadium for the raiders. laura anthony is live from the old coliseum at the story. laura? >> hi, dan well coliseum city planners in oakland tell us what happens in carson doesn't affect them. but there is also a hitch here and that the oakland a's aren't exactly on board with the idea of building two stadiums on one site. >> it's christmas to me. my raiders are coming back. charges. l.a.'s ready for this. we ready. >> the party son in a los angeles county city of carson. >> football is coming to carson. [ cheers and applause ] >> reporter: after the city council there voted to move ahead with a voint stadium plan for both the raiders and san diego chargers. >> we are still working aggressively. >> reporter: but those involved in oakland seem mostly unphased.

>> carson city council had to vote to take the stadium issue and keep it moving forward. it doesn't really change our position or our game plan whatsoever. >> in order to save the teams, we must also support the teams. >> reporter: to that end, coliseum city developer with business leaders and fellow developers in oakland talking about creating the kind of venue that would entice both teams to stay. >> we're here because we see the opportunity to be a part of something that will change the face of the city and region. >> reporter: one problem, according to the a's ownership said they are not interested in sharing property with the raiders. even if each team has its own building. the big issue, parking. >> we don't harbor grudges against their philosophical view, but we believe it is best for the region, city and county to have both teams still here.

you know a lot of folks including the trans gender community waiting to see the exclusive interview with bruce jenner this friday. will it be a teachable moment or is it exploitation? carolyn tyler set down with one of the best known ookt activists to talk about her journey. carolyn? >> teresa sparks is navy vet former husband, devoted parent and grand parent. someone in the unique position to empathize with the journey bruce jenner is apparently making. she used to be a self-described alpha male.

an outline of his plan. suspect an algerian computer science student was on a watch list because he wanted to go to syria. he is expected in the death of a woman whose car the suspect was trying to steal. a northern california man is trying to overturn his high profile terrorism conviction. he an four other men connected to a mosque were arrested in may 2005. only hyatt was arrested and sentenced to 24 years in prison. now his attorneys say his original attorney was incompetent and failed to uncover evidence that proves his innocence. and said he was coerced into confessing about terrorist camps. a written recommendation will be issued. important news, the way you may a bank deposit may soon be a way of the past. >> scammers mastered ways to manipulate the system and now the feds are fighting back.

a group of bay area researchers is using a unique technology to search for life beyond earth. it is part of an effort known as study, the search for extra terrestrial intelligence. >> do you ever have the feeling we're not alone if step into astronomer dan worthheim areer's office and you may start to believe it. >> the idea is that if there are advanced civilizations, they might transmit messages our way. >> for decades, astronomers at berkeley and other sites have eavesdropped on space listening mainly for radio waves. but now that search is moving into the digital age. >> just recently we started looking for laser signals. specifically infrared signals.
