been around for 40 years can't use the vans to pick up food and deliver furniture or transport kids. sears has stepped in to donate new batteries. 9 organization is hoping someone will come forward to donate new windows as well to get them back up and unaring fully. on this earth day a victory for a bay area woman who is just not willing to see two historic redwood trees cut down. she and some of her fellow menlo park residents put up one heck of a fight. january thet is there -- janet is there with the decision that came down. >> the date started off uncertain for neighbors fighting for the trees. the cometioners -- the commissioners said they are too precious to cut down even if they may be a hazard. >> it is older than the homes or the people who live in them the redwood trees stand tall. a new neighbor wants to remove them over safety concerns. it is all part of her renovation plans.

they found the trees are healthy, however haphazard pruning makes them a liability. neighbors say cutting them down is not the answer. >> we have to save the trees. we love the trees. >> 91-year-old marianne filed an appeal to save the trees. they reveal the developers and the homeowner went as far as to bribe her. >> anyone who thinks they can get away with putting a tree in the city of menlo, i'm sorry, we can't do that. >> the homeowner didn't want to be identified and defended her decision. >> i am actually thinking -- hoping they are there forever. >> they took into account the tree's stability, and alternatives will be found to reinforce them and the trees will remain. >> i feel relieved. i hope it continues this way. i love my neighbors.

more than 1500 people are under evacuation orders. it is considered one of the top three most potentially deadly volcanos among the 90 active volcanos. tonight a midair scare for 75 passengers. a pilot forces his plane to dive descending 30,000 feet in a matter of minutes. abc news reporter has the story. >> tonight a midair scare for 75 passengers. sky west flight 5622 from chicago to hartford, connecticut took off at 9:31 this morning. just 40 minutes into the flight with the plane at 37,000 feet a passenger becomes ill. the pilot concerned the illness could be due to a pressurization issue took no chances even though there were no cockpit warning and oxygen man dropping he made a dissent in eight minutes. passengers on board concerned. they called it a nose-dive.

what we are watching is a system that is going to bring showers on saturday. as you look at our computer animation, you will see exactly what is going to happen. friday night could see spotty drizzle ahead of the main system. as we head into the wee hours of saturday 2:00 a.m. you will notice it is wet out there. if you are asleep you may be eke woulden up by the rain drops. by 11:00 a.m. it is pushing down toward monterey bay and heading into the sierra they have never. the rainfall totals in the bay area could be a few hundredths to about a quarter to a third of an inch as you will notice by saturday morning. in the mountains if you are traveling especially to the tahoe area keep in mind it will start out at 7,000, but dropping to 6000. your passes will be impacted and as far as snowfall estimates, i know it is late in the season, but it looks like a few inches to maybe half a foot of snow tomorrow morning it will be a cool start. you will have some fog around
