tonight. more on that in just a couple minutes. >> thank you. back to breaking news we first brought you at 4:30. firefighters on the scene of a deadly fire in mountain view that chased neighbors out of their beds early this morning. abc 7 news reporter matt keller is live on lola lane. >> reporter: firefighters have the fire out right now. they're working on getting hoses rolled up and clearing the scene. they are waiting on the coroner to arrive and also the cause investigators to arrive here. when firefighters did get here this morning, they did an aggressive interior attack and were dealing with exploding ammunition. firefighters say there was ammunition in the garage believed to be bullets. the man that lives there works as a consultant but also is a

marksman. they found a man in the back bedroom. he died at the scene. while firefighters were in the house, a live wire came down and had to be extra careful with that and dealing with flames and exploding ammunition. >> danger extremely high. active fire in the structure. we have a report of a person trapped. we're dealing with ammunition going off in the garage so bullets were traveling through the interior of the garage. live wire in the back we didn't know until we located it. danger was pretty high. >> reporter: firefighters got the flames under control. ten people were evacuated from three adjacent homes. no one else was injured. fire cause investigators appears they just arrived on the scene here and will determine what started the fire and of course the coroner will determine what killed the man inside. reporting live in mountain view, matt keller, abc 7 news. happening right now a heavy

police presence where there are reports of a high-speed chase that culminated in officers opening fire. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live with more on this story. >> reporter: it's still an active scene here in sonoma county. they've got crime tape up here. look at how far back they are keeping us from the investigation. investigators are tucked back in the business area where you see an antique society here, bumble bee farms, a bakery and cafe the scene is far from where we are. there are reports that one person was shot by officers following a chase. this because it's outside city limits, this is a sonoma county sheriff's case. we reached out to the sheriff's office and we're not getting comments at this time. they've been referring uses to

their public information officer who has not returned our calls and e-mails. a police officer just told me that he's hearing that the sheriff's office is working on a press release right now and should be getting us more information later this morning. this did just happen around midnight and they are still processing the scene so this story is still developing. we'll stay on it through the morning and bring you updates when we get them so stay with us. the search will resume for a cupertino teen that disappeared without a chase. connor sullivan showed up his first class monday morning and hasn't been seen since. the santa clara county sheriff's department believes connor isn't the victim of a crime.

>> it's suspicious because he's never run away before. >> volunteers will resume their search this morning. a dead bird tested positive for west nile virus. it's the first indication of the virus this year in the county. district official will deploy mosquito traps to conduct further tests. the district recommends people drain all sources of standing water on their property including flower pots because that's where mosquitoes lay their eggs. barry bonds says he's looking forward to the next chapter in his life after a federal appears court cleared him of his obstruction of justice conviction related to a steroids investigation. we get reaction live from the newsroom from sports insiders to

fans. >> reporter: fans aren't wavering much on whether he took steroids. in 2003, bonds was asked before a grand jury if his trainer ever injected him with anything using a syringe. bonds gave a vague allegedly misleading answer and now an appeals court has overturned that conviction. there is still the court of public opinion. a retired columnist does not think bonds will be allowed in the hall of fame. >> the giants treat him like a celebrity and it bothers me more when he gets in the ballpark fans give him big ovations and stuff like that. wish more people cared about the game of baseball than those who taint it. >> it's crazy to think that he's going to be in the hall of fame. his name is going to be up there with the other great without the asterisk. that's just not okay. >> i'm glad they found him not

republicans. she would replace eric holder. republican leaders have decided to hold off on her confirmation until an unrelated bill of human trafficking was completed. skywest says three passengers lost consciousness after a plane was put into a nosedive. it happened on a skywest flight from chicago to hartford connecticut. there were 75 passengers onboard and passengers say they had little warning. >> they told us to tighten our seat belts and we nosedived until we leveled out at 10,000 feet and that was darn scary. >> they started at 40,000 feet and ended up at 10,000. the plane landed safely in buffalo. passengers were treated and released. mechanics haven't found any issues with the plane. they just know the plane depressurized and the faa is now

investigating. an impact on ferry service to tell you about as two golden gate ferries go offline for repairs. the mv san francisco and mv mendocino are undergoing overhauls in southern california. repairs will be finished this summer at a cost of $26 million. ferry officials say evening service will be impacted with ferries likely to sell out quickly on the 5:00 5:30 and 6:00 trips. san francisco is set to roll out 60 shiny new muni buses like this one when the all electric buses go into service next week passengers will notice a redesigned interior and big innovation is under the hood. if lines are rerouted buses can be unhooked from overhead wires and travel on battery power for seven miles. muni expects to replace its entire fleet with hybrid and electric buses over the next five years. you know how business has not been so golden for the

again along the peninsula coast. let's take a look at what's going to happen. we'll jump ahead to tomorrow at noon. you can see plenty of sunshine. then the clouds come in by the evening hours. and from about 2:00 saturday morning to about 11:00 the cold front and showers will sweep north to south through our neighborhoods but by the afternoon, we'll see increasing sunshine but if you're heading to the sierra, more thunderstorms and high mountain snow. here's my accuweather seven-day forecast. coolest and winds will blow fastest saturday and then we'll have 60s at the coast. 70s and 80s for our bay and inland temperatures next week. >> it looks like b.a.r.t. is now just advising us that there's a ten-minute delay at daley city and sfo millbrae and east bay directions because of an equipment problem on the tracks. be prepared. ten minutes you'll be waiting on that platform. all right. here's a look at 101. if you are making your commute to the airport away from 880 southbound traffic not going to be a problem. we're still dealing with heavy

backups in tracy. this is westbound on 580 where a big rig just went off the freeway into a ditch. 20 miles per hour is your top speeds. you have backups. you can go up to 11th street and grab 205 to get to 580 if you need to make it in that direction. back over to westbound side of highway 24 at fish ranch road an accident involving one vehicle. it was swerving before it crashed into the center divide and sounds like there are minor injuries involved. big reminder for you for traffic mavericks out there north and southbound van ness will be closed starting at midnight for 72 hours. traffic detours will be in place. you're going to like this one. a florida school principal is trying to get students to think outside the box. so she installed a fun way to get kids motivated. >> take a look. that's a slide in the middle of the school near west palm beach. it took eight months to install. it connects the second floor

east bay directions. pack your patience if you're headed out to b.a.r.t. right now. here's a look at san jose. that's 280 near highway 17. traffic moving nicely. we do have one problem however in tracy that's causing some pretty bad slowing i have to say on westbound 580. more details straight ahead. >> thank you it it's 5:31 now. we want to go back again to the scene of breaking news on the peninsula. a house fire that forced evacuations and claimed at least one life. abc 7 news reporter matt keller is on the scene. matt? >> reporter: fire investigators arrived here about a half hour ago. they're going to try to determine exactly what caused the fire that killed a man here and you can see the scene is calm but when firefighters arrived here earlier this morning, it was very dangerous. check out what they were facing when they got here.

firefighters say there was ammunition in the garage believed to be bullets and a neighbor told me the man who lives there alone works as a consultant but also spends time as a marksman competing in shooting competitions. firefighters found a man in a back room believed to be a bedroom. they were not able to save him. he died at the scene. firefighters were in the house and a live wire came down and they had to be extra careful with that while dealing with flames and exploding ammunition. a couple of neighbors tried to help before firefighters arrived but the fire and smoke were just too intense. >> your first instinct is to do something. when you see how thick it is you realize that if you go in there, you won't make it. i didn't even try. >> reporter: the man who lives in the home is about 60 years old and has lived in this neighborhood for several years. about ten people were evacuated from three adjacent homes. no one else was injured including firefighters. lola lane is blocked off. the coroner will confirm the

identity of the victim and also his cause of death. reporting live matt keller abc 7 news. >> matt thank you. new details on breaking news out of sonoma county. sheriff's deputies are on the scene of a shooting investigation near the antique society in sebastopol. a santa rosa police officer tells abc 7 news it was an officer-involved shooting and santa rosa pd is taking over the investigation. he says the sheriff's office is preparing a press release and expects it to come out soon. we are at the scene and we'll have a live report for you coming up at the top of the hour. a 7-year-old boy is in the hospital in serious condition after being hit by gunfire in vallejo. investigators were on the scene at 5th and cherry street late yesterday afternoon. the gunfire erupted outside of a gathering of 40 people attending a wake. the boy was standing on the sidewalk and was hit by a stray bullet. family members rushed him to the hospital. police think there were five people involved in the gun

battle. investigators recovered at least 20 shell casings there at the scene. daley city police are asking for the public's help finding a woman who didn't return home from a shopping trip. police say the woman left her home in the st. francis area of daley city on tuesday around 10:00 in the morning. police are concerned because she suffers from a traumatic brain injury, short-term memory loss and is blind in her right eye. she's 5'3" 150 pounds and was wearing dark sunglasses a cream colored trench coat and dark blue jeans. no word if federal prosecutors will ask the supreme court to review an appeals court decision to throw out barry bonds' criminal conviction. the ninth u.s. circuit court of appeals in san francisco reversed bonds' 2011 obstruction of justice conviction yesterday. judges ruled that his rambling answer to a grand jury in 2003 was not material to the investigation into a performance

enhancing drug ring. >> there have been tens of millions of dollars spent on this case. i think there are higher and better uses of the federal taxpayer dollars. i'm glad to see it come to a close. >> bond says he appealed to clear his name and is humbled the outcome. support for same-sex marriage has reached an all-time high. according to a new abc washington post" poll. the poll finds 61% of americans are in favor of same-sex marriage. the poll finds that many favor same-sex marriage when it comes to two key issues. 62% support requiring states to recognize gay marriages that

were performed legally in other states. the city of napa is seeking $12 million in aid for repairs after last year's damaging 6.0 magnitude earthquake. federal and state emergency officials expect post-quake repairs to take four years to complete. napa predicts needing more than $1 million to restore roads and bridges. the b.a.r.t. board of directors will meet later today to begin discussing its budget for the next fiscal year. the preliminary budget includes money to relieve crowded trains by adding extra repair shifts in the train shops so there will be more cars in use during peak hours. the proposal includes expanding deep cleaning programs to keep up with the highest levels of ridership in b.a.r.t. history. b.a.r.t.'s directors would like to improve on time performance by hiring train controllers. 5:36.

good morning to you. french authorities say they stopped a terrorist who wanted to repeat last winter's horrific attacks with a plan of his own. abc reporter >> reporter: french officials don't know if the suspect had any official connection to any terror groups but they say a contact in syria advised him to target churches. french investigators say the man living living among fellow students in this residence hall was an

aspiring terrorist. sid ahmed ghlam is believed to have been planning another massacre in france like the attacks at "charlie hebdo" magazine and a kosher supermarket. at 8:00 a.m. sunday police say ghlam began to carry out his plan by shooting to death 32-year-old dancer and mother, aurelie chatelain as she sat in her car. an hour later cameras capture him speeding toward paris but he calls for help where he tells emergency workers he accidental shot himself in the leg. police follow a trail of blood to his car where they find combat weapons ammunition a bulletproof vest documents referencing al qaeda and isis and an outline of his plan to attack christian churches. investigators are now working to track down any potential accomplices. one person believed to be acquainted with him was arrested

last night but police are not releasing further details at this time. in washington, bazi kanani abc 7 news. >> thank you. police in two states identified a san jose woman they wanted to thank for a thank you note she wrote last month. 27-year-old lauren talbert left the note on the cruiser of a denver police officer. the note expressed her gratitude to the officer for risking his life every day. she's originally from san jose but now lives in denver. she left the note a week after san jose officer michael johnson was shot and killed in the line of duty. both agencies in denver and san jose have reached out on social media to track her down and thank her for her kind gesture. she came forward yesterday. she said it took me back. i don't want this attention but she says if it inspires others to say thank you, she's glad it happened. a woman and her neighbors won battle to save giant redwoods from being cut down. abc 7 news was at the family center when the vote came down

yesterday on earth day. the 90-foot redwoods are older than most of the homes and people in the neighborhood. a new neighbor wanted them removed over safety concerns. a city arborist determined they were safety but past pruning made them a liability. a woman filed the appeals to save the trees. the homeowner defended her decision to have them cut down. >> i'm here to dissuade the neighbors. i'm hoping -- >> anyone who thinks they can get away with [ inaudible ] >> the commissioners decided that alternatives will be found to reinforce the stability of the trees and that they'll continue to be monitored. >> we are sending out birthday wishes this morning. not to someone but rather something. >> happy birthday, youtube, which turns ten today. do you know the first video that was posted? it all started with a video
