speed chase is in the hospital with life threatening injuries this evening. just moments ago, authorities identified the woman involved in the shooting off the old highway, it's 46-year-old karen jenks. she is a transient. started at 11:45 last night when someone called 911 to report a car going in reverse on highway 101 near windsor. deputies caught up with the car, the chase began hitting nearly 100 miles an hour, when the woman finally stopped deputies say she refused to surrender. as they approached he put her car in reverse and ran down three deputies. that's when they opened fire. >> i just think it's a sad state of affairs when this kind of violence actually happens. and i hope everybody, you know, will be okay. but it sounds like it was a really bad experience for the officers and for the person involved. >> the officers hit by the car suffered minor injuries. investigators don't know if she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. we're getting our first look at the man accused of trying to

kidnap three teenage girls in hayward. police released a mug shot of this 20-year-old today. he is facing multiple charges of attempted kidnapping. the incidents happened in february and march. police said he flashed a gun in one of the attacks. officers say he tried to pull the girls into his car, but they all fought back and escaped. he also suspected in a fourth attempted kidnapping. when a huge tree came crashing down in san jose today thank goodness no one was home. had the kids who lived there been in the backyard, maybe on ninth street instead of at school. who knows what might have happened. david louis is live with the story tonight, david. >> reporter: well, dan, this is a temporary chain linked fence that is protecting the property now. you can see the massive tree crashed down on top of the garage and also took out the back fence. the tree took out virtually everything in the backyard except for one item. one of two bicycles owned by the two teenagers who live here. >> kind of crazy, like we have no more backyard.

>> reporter: it was something that homeowner leanne saros always feared. sky 7 hd overhead shows how the tree estimated to be 50-feet tall crashed to the garage with the rest landing across the backyard where the docks like to play. she was at work. her teenage sons were at school. to no one was injured. however, the garden tools and other items stored in the garage were damaged. >> the tree is very old and it's big. and the branchs limbs were very big, and i knew that if it ever fell, it was going to fall on to my garage. like i just i've been talking to my neighbor. we need to do something about this. >> reporter: we attempted to contact the next door neighbor, but no one answered the door. the neighborhood is filled with old homes near downtown san jose. many have been lovingly restored. the tree appears to be a so-called tree of heaven or chinese sumac. the trunk appears to have split in half leaving half standing. the rest falling on to the neighbor's yard and garage. the home was spared, although

firefighters checked for damage. >> the fire chief and i walked upstairs to inspect the house and he said it was all secure so yes, i'm very grateful that not more damage was done. >> reporter: back fence was also damage aid long the alley way and replaced with a temporary chain link fence. in san jose david louis, abc 7 news. exploding ammunition during a fatal fire in mountainview this morning made for a dangerous scene this morning. look at that the. abc 7 news was at lola lane shortly after the flames broke out. neighbor tells us a man died in that fire. he has spent time as a marksmen and spent time in shooting competitions. >> one minute you're sleeping and the next, you know, you're trying to save the guy's life. and it was just like we were yelling as loud as we could. >> it was just too much smoke for neighbors to enter. and later while firefighters were in the house, a live wire came down and that along with the exploding ammunition made

else. i remember as a parent watching my daughter play, and how obnoxious and nervous i was in the stands. i can only imagine what it's like for the holiday parents. so i asked justin this morning what's it like playing against your brother in the playoffs? >> its been great. it's given us more time to see one another. people think, you know, we're playing the playoffs, we probably shouldn't converse or talk, but no, it's, you know, i'm glad i goat see him more. that helps us as far as playing in the game. we're going to see family. there. i'm having a good time. >> it's got to be tough on your parents. who are they pulling for? >> both of their sons are in the playoffs. >> yeah. >> you can't be mad at that. and they get to see both sons. but i think they want each of us to do well they're happy for one to win and upset the other one lost. whichever way, it'll be bittersweet. >> they were happy you won two at home and hoping drew gets two here in new orleans. >> i don't know about all that. ip mean you know, you're talking about that, you did this

new mobile command post that can communicate off the grid for up to 72 hours in case the power goes out. it was a comprehensive test today. this is the ninth year for the drill. one east bay city on the cutting edge when it comes to a new smart phone app designed to help drivers drive. it's called enlighten. and our laura anthony joins us now to show us how it works. what's involved there? >> reporter: yep, i'm driving down main street rush hour lots of tlask and lots of lights for anyone who knows this area. the way this app works is that it is in app on a smart phone, it's called enlighten. and as we approach the stoplights, it's supposed to

application. >> reporter: but some worry the app itself could be a distraction. >> yeah it's another thing to be doing while you're driving instead of driving. >> it shows you that realtime status of each intersection. >> reporter: officials see it as just a first step in greater integration among tech-savvy drivers, their cars and computers. in walnut creek laura anthony, abc 7 news. all right. young couple is under arrest tonight for terrorizing a man who contacted them through some sort of online ad. 20-year-old katherine stump is from danville and 25-year-old alexander nejat is from dublin. authorities say they met a man in his 20s drove to his home and attacked him. >> so the female put a knife to the victim's throat made threats of great bodily injury. the male suspect then pepper sprayed the victim. and then they proceeded to steal several items from the residence. >> this happened on green leaf

drive in cupertino. the victim's okay. the young couple stole electronics, medication and money totaling $7500. they have a history of this kind of theft. authorities believe they are probably more victims out there. the abc 7 news eye team is investigating a lotion agency accused of wasting water every day during the drought emergency. a gulf course superintendent says he's been complaining about leaks and complaining about the leaks in an irrigation system for years. >> 50,000 gallons of water a day is equal to the consumption between 600 and 1,000 people. maybe about two swimming pools. >> reporter: the agency overseeing the golf course says it's doing its best and says the superintendent should have done more to fix the problems. the eye team investigates tonight at 11:00 on abc 7 news. break in the case of a cello stolen during this vehicle burglary on april 11 north san francisco.

police say the $8500 instrument has been returned to its 16-year-old owner. apparently someone walked into a downtown san francisco bar on tuesday night, and handed over the cello to an employee and told them to call police nap person left in a hurry. still no sign of the two suspects in the case, but at least the chel slow back where it belongs. sonoma raceway is pulling the plug on a proposed four-day music festivals. officials to rival outside lands in golden gate park and were hoping to kick it off in 2017 but today they withdrew their request, citing high costs and other issues. neighbors opposed the idea because of concerns about traffic and noise. if you take weight loss or energy supplements, you want to listen to this because you might be getting more than you bargained for. >> 7 on your side michael finny is here with the consumer news. >> this is an interesting one. feds sent out warning letters to the makers of several diet supplements for use a speed-like ingredient in its products.

the ingredient contains a chemical described by the food and drug administration as being similar to amphetamines. it has never been tested for human safety the fda is demanding the companies stop selling product that contained the ingredients. letter sent to human evolution supplements which had no comments. warnings were also sent to better body sports high-tech pharmaceuticals. train naked lab and triberius enterprises, we were unsuccessful in reaching anyone who could comment. tesla will offer batteries to power lekelectricity in your home. the idea from the electric car maker is to activate the batteries in the home when both demand and prices are at their highest. the power and the battery would be stored from solar cells and used after the sun goes down. walmart senior already utilizing the batteries in 11 of its california stores. the pilot project is expected to be formerly announced some time next week. going to the plom can be

still dark clouds and scattered showers and thunder still in the forecast for tomorrow. 57 right now in san francisco, it's 62 in oakland. san carlos, san jose all in the 60s. right now it is 54 degrees in half-moon bay with some gray skies lingering. beautiful view from the south beach camera looking out towards the bay where we have a mix of high clouds and sun. 68 in santa rosa, it is currently 71 degrees in fairfield and 68 in concord, livermore, just a degree behind. highs so far mid-50s to mid-70s here's another hazy view with some clouds from our mt. camera. cars on the increase late tomorrow showers arrive early saturday morning with warmer days beginning on sunday. i want to show you the pacific satellite setup here. we have one front going into the pacific northwest, that stays well to the north of us it's the second system that will bring us some showers early saturday. so let's take a look at the timeline, tomorrow night, you'll start to see the clouds thickening up and by 11:00 p.m. could start to see a few showers

developing in the north bay we have to wait until the wee hours of the morning when the ground starts to get wet, 1:00 a.m. saturday, hopefully most of you are sleeping 3:00 a.m. the showers are in the east bay and the south bay around the monterrey bay as we head towards the 5:00 a.m. hour just a few showers, so if you're an early riser, carry your umbrellas, especially those early plans on saturday, but those showers are through by the time of afternoon hours roll through. you're going to be looking at just partly cloudy skies to mostly cloudy conditions. as far as rainfall totals, most areas will see between 500ths to a quarter of an inch. so this will measure. and in the sierra nevada highest elevations could pick up up to a foot. snow level near 6,000 feet. those passes will be impacted. you can see the resorts will be picking up snowfall as well. it's a late season storm for like a winter storm than spring but we will get much needed moisture out of it. low 40s to the low 50s tomorrow morning, we'll see those clouds around and a little bit of
