. >> good morning, i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, april 26th. let's start with a quick look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning. >> a pretty much warmer day for everyone. well into the 50s right now. 54 oakland. we will have a cool northwest breeze along the shoreline. despite the sunshine it will be cool pacifica, half moon bay and much warmer weather away from the coast. from our sutro tower camera, san francisco warms to 62 degrees. winds out of the west keeping the coast clear. low 70s in san jose. upper 60s in oakland and warmer tomorrow. i'll have those numbers in a few minutes. carolyn. >> lisa, thank you. in developing news, people in nepal are cremating the dead and dig fourth survivors this morning, one day after a massive

hem layian 7 .8 magnitude earthquake. the death toll is growing and now is more than 2500. a huge aftershock overnight measuring 6.7 scent people screaming and running into the streets. doctors and relief workers are now on the scene. at least 17 people were killed in an avalanche on mount everest triggered by the quake, including a 33-year-old google employee from the bay area. abc7 news reporter sergio quintana has details. >> daniel fredinburg was on an expedition of mount everest. these are pictures from his instagram feed. the group he was traveling with confirmed his beth from an avalanche cause the by the massive quake. >> i've done a lot of good things in my life. >> he also launched a start-up accelerator in the mission district called "the laundry." we talked to people in his neighborhood and his death is

still a shock. three other company employees traveling with him are safe and google is making arrangements to get them back home. the massive quake devastated the capital and surrounding communities. here in the bay area families are turning to social media platforms like facebook to track their loved ones. >> our family lives there, my cousin said i'm safe. >> his home office has become an information center for the 4,000 or so families in the east bay. he has been using the facebook's recently launched safety checklist to track people. since land lines are down and power is scarce, they are using mobile phones to community. they are using viber. >> what is viber? >> viber is free. >> through those apps he's been able to see his family's pictures of the destruction and tents set up by their home. like many of the residents they are afraid the ongoing

aftershocks will collapse what is left of the homes. >> he said the nepal community doesn't have a central temple so he's trying to coordinate an event in the next couple days for people to come together. as the recover effort continues, google has pledged $1 million for the cause. in the newsroom abc7 news. >> and two men from sonoma county dodged death in nepal. one survived an avalanche back in april of last year. this year rider was on everest again when the quake hit setting up avalanches. scott holder was on a different expedition. he spoke to us on the phone last night. >> in california the earthquake that i remember are sharp jolts and they are gone.

this one just kept going and going. >> he is safe. >> and another survivor is fremont resident jonathan koo who was visiting nepal. he sent tweets all morning while he was waiting for a plane. breakfast a hard-boiled egg and lunch a can of spring else. he said here waiting to board. he said a big mess. he said he waited in line just to get a handwritten boarding pass. the united states is sending a disaster response team and $1 million in aid to the himalayan nation. the emergency response includes a california-based urban search and rescue team from the l.a. area. breaking news from vacaville. a 17-year-old girl from concord was killed in a chain reaction crash. the chp telling us it happened around 12:30 on westbound 80

west of leisure town road. the girl was outside her car on the shoulder we're with a nissan ultima behind. a man driving a super van drove on to the shoulder and hit her, and sent the van spinning and pushing it into her. she was pronounced dead at kaiser vacaville. san francisco police are looking for a driver who hit a motor cycle and then sped away. the crash happened just before 9:00 last night in howard street in the south of market neighborhood. motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. police are looking for a white toyota corolla missing part of the front bumper. i'm wearing warriors blue to celebrate how the team took care of the new orleans pelicans last night, sweeping the first-round series in four games. draymond green and steph curry did a lot of the damage as

usual. green on the receiving end of a shaun livingston pass, and curry dropping a few three-pointers to wrap things up. he finished with 39 points. abc7 mike shumann is traveling with the team. >> you are the first player since baron davis, i believe that was back-to-back 30-point nights in the playoff. you must feel pretty good about your game. >> well, it's special obviously tonight to help the team close out the series. it's huge. pretty proud of the team and individually as well and then we go for the next round. >> scary because we knew they could beat us, but i think it was good for us. it got us on edge and it made us get better. >> final score warriors 109, pelicans 98. golden state advances to the western conference semifinals. who they will play and when will not be determined until the other series finish up. or it will be the portland series. fans all over the bay area were

thrilled with the win. abc7 news reporter janet o has the story of dub nation san leandro style. >> from the start fans never second guessed their team would win game four of the first-round series. >> not in my mind. not in my mind. >> the fans packed the sports club in san leandro donning blue and gold. riding on a high from game three. >> game three, we had a comeback. so amazing. this game here just showed us how good we really are. >> we knew we were going to win. they were shooting the ball and doing defense. they are an offensive killer and defense killer. i'm glad we could get the win today. >> the warriors maintained the lead over the pelicans throughout the game. still, every shot made had fans on the edge of their seats. strength in numbers could be seen and felt.

9:is it 11 on this sunday morning. ago thank you for joining us for the abc7 sunday morning news. here's a look from our golden gate camera. you see the clear blue skies. lisa argen is coming up shortly with a full accuweather forecast. >> a lawsuit from back in 2005 is providing fuel for parents of students at a san francisco catholic school who want to remove the parish's controversial pastor. the san francisco chronicle reports according to the lawsuit the pastor shouted at an 11-year-old girl at his former parish calling her a lawyer. this after she reported abuse by another priest. parents were already upset with the reverend by banning girls from serving mass and allowing pamphlets discussing abortion to

be handed out to students as young as seven years old. >>some disturbing news egarding president obama's unclassified e-mails. the new york times reporting that russian hackers breached the white house's own classified computer system and red the president's e-mails that he sent and received. they apparently did not penetrate the servers that controlled the messages from his blackberry. some senior american officials say the breach is far more intrusive and worrisome a than has been publicly acknowledged. >> social media is lighting up again. >> i guess that rain we had is probably it? >> we've had a cool down and warmup. and a cool down and a warmup. 668 degrees. almost 70 today and warmer weather is on the way. i'll have your forecast next. >> i listen closely to you ms. argen. also ahead reducing water use

the state's drought is forcing the city of petaluma to talk about ways to cut water use. tomorrow city leaders will meet to discuss what conversation measures can be improved. from reducing water use to recycling water. one possible conversation

measure leaders will not be discussing is a temporary building moratorium. petaluma was the first sonoma county city to publicly discuss a potential moratorium on development. but the city council backed off that idea. the city needs affordable housing and rental units, but doesn't want to overtap water resources. a delicate balancing act as we deal with the fourth year of drought >> absolutely. happy to have the rain but it did nothing. we had a little landscape that was parched not so parched now. temperatures will be warming up today and tomorrow. so looking at a beautiful shot this morning. a beautiful several shots around the bay. but the low clouds and fog will be back and they will provide the cooling at the shoreline tomorrow. and today it will be breezy a look at san jose where it's nice and sunny.

57 there. temperatures right now in a narrow range and much warmer than they were yesterday. santa cruz nice day today even though the winds will keep the coast on the cool side. but 70s here closer to our neck of the woods. half moon bay looking at 58. napa lagging behind at 53. everyone is nice and sunny and starting out chilly this morning but right now it's warmer than it was yesterday at this time. a look at santa rosa with a little bit of a north wind. they really warm up quickly. a look at the bay today. breezy and sunny. 60s in san francisco. west wind at 20 miles an hour and we will have a cooler coast each and every day except for a couple of days this week. the summer heat arrives tomorrow. well into the 80s tomorrow and another opportunity for that at the end of the week. high pressure offshore begins to build in. that's allowing for the warmup today and tomorrow. but then after that a trough

slides in that will cool us down come tuesday and wednesday. but beyond that we will warm up again. the first day of may could be the warmest day this week on friday. the numbers low to mid-70s for morgan hill and gilroy today." santa cruz the nice and mild 70 degrees on the peninsula. bringing in a little bit of fog along the coast. it will still be cool, sunny or foggy. 57 pacifica, 69 palo alto. sunny in the cities. mid-60s downtown with the breezy winds. up in the north pay some of the warmer numbers here. in fact we are looking at mid-70s santa rosa. a big jump from yesterday. and with the sunshine from marin, it will look nice but the coast will still be cool. 73 in vallejo. east bay warmer than yesterday by about 4 degrees. average high is about 67 degrees. going for a high of 69 today.

69 union city, and you head inland, numbers here really jumping into the upper 70s. so this also will be the area tomorrow that warms the most. highs today in our inland east bay will be in the mid-70s from san ramon. and pittsburgh at about 79 degrees. fur spending time in the east bay, particularly at the ballgame mid-60s. and oakland upper 60s at 3:30 and a west wind about 15 miles an hour. a warmup today, bigger warmup tomorrow and a cool down tuesday and wednesday with the fog keeping it chilly at the coast. then by thursday and friday looks like we are well into the 80s again inland. and it will cool down next weekend. you can see what is showing up on live doppler hd anytime with our news app. it's always a good idea to keep the jacket with you. >> and tomorrow marks the beginning for this year of spare the air?

temperatures close to 60. let's take a look at livermore with the highs today in the 70s. mid-80s tomorrow. a cool down tuesday and wednesday. look what happens thursday and the beginning of may. yeah, we are back up into the 80s. the rest of the day today looking at seasonably cool along the coast. upper 60s. the west winds will keep san francisco in the mid-50s. 75 napa, 73 san jose. and upper 70s out toward the delta. accuweather seven-day forecast warmer tomorrow and then the dip on tuesday and wednesday. no rain, though. and the warmup thursday and friday. and that was probably it for the rain yesterday. >> all right. we are closing in on may, believe it or not. that's going to do is it for us. thank you for joining us on abc7 sunday morning news. i'm carolyn tyler along with lisa argen. we are off early because of the nba playoffs on nbc.
