with live breaking news. and that breaking news is in baltimore. good afternoon, everybody. i'm larry beil. >> i'm ama daetz. we begin with that chaos in baltimore. a riot is under way right now. police and rioters clashed today following the funeral of freddie gray, the man who died after being arrested earlier this month. several officers have been injured injured. the baltimore orioles postponed tonight's game as a safety precaution because they weren't at home. they're issuing a strong response to the qriots. karen is live with a look at today's violence. >> good afternoon, ama. the police chief said they will do everything they can to

protect their officers and that included some very aggressive arrests made at the mall scene earlier today. some of the demonstrators showed up and started throwing rocks and bricks at the police officers and they responded with force. as you said, the baltimore orioles canceled their game tonight at camden yard. saturday night they kept their game when the demonstrations got close to the stadium and everybody had to stay inside after the end of it and tonight not taking any chances their wanting to get the situations under control and get people off the streets. violent clashes between police and a loud crowd of teenagers at a mall in west baltimore. some in the crowd were throwing rocks and bricks. others jumped on this police victim. >> this afternoon a group of outrageous criminals attacked our officers. right now we have seven officers that have serious injuries including broken bones and one officer who is unconscious. >> reporter: the demonstrations came just hours after an emotion funeral service for freddie

gray. >> to come a few blocks away from where we had the services and i'm hoping to bring calm and to bring our young people back into focus as to what we're really marching for. >> about 3,000 people packed a church in baltimore to mourn freddie gray who died a week ago while in custody of the baltimore police. a lawyer for the 25-year-old's family drew a large crowd to its feet when the baltimore police officers implicated in this incident should tell the public exactly what happened. >> this is our moment to get truth. this is our moment to make it right. >> reporter: baltimore's police commissioner said the department's internal probe will be finished by may 1st. so far five of the six officers have spoken to investigators. >> his death is going to light a match. not of looting and burning, but of awesome change. >> reporter: it was a message sprinkled throughout the service and how this tragedy could be

used to bring about changes in communities so desperate for them. >> we don't need more police, we need more jobs. >> the governor of maryland has mobilized the national guard in case that is needed, but the police are trying to keep calm and keep these situations under control letting demonstrators demonstrate, but trying to avoid any of the violence anding liness that we felt earlier today. reporting lye from baltimore karen travers abc 7 news. >> we want to take you back live now outside of a liquor store. it looks like looting going on and the concerns from police is a lot of the violence are teenagers. they've gotten out of school and almost running wild like they have carte blanche to run around the city. in some places it looks like a war zone and just a real concern with the unrest. the governor of maryland says the national guard is on alert and may deploy to help police

with the looting and the violence in baltimore. do stay with abc 7 news for the latest on that violence that is happening right now. you can follow us on twitter at abc 7 news bay area for updates any time. all right. another top story. time running outxd for rescue and recovery in nepal after the 7.8 magnitude earthquake. this child was among those pulled from the rubble and rescue crews reached a woman in kathmandu. the quake reduced one of the most scenic spots into a panorama of devastation in just minutes. these images show the widespread impact and many of kathmandu's centuries-old buildings have just toppled. 16 countries have rushed aid and workers to nepal with more on the way. the death toll at this hour tops 4,000 people and that includes at least four americans all of whom died in an avalanche in mount everest that was caused by

the quake. daniel fredinburg, an executive with google who was one of the americans killed on mount everest. friends say he was an experienced climber on his third trip up the world's highest peak. >> he was 33, but he really lived 33 lives. we talked about this. he lived as boldly as any human being we'll ever know. >> we always knew something like this could be a possibility. we threw him a really big party before he left, but especially with dan you assume he'd be able to get out of it and figure this out. >> friends called him inspirational and lived life to its fullest. bay area giants have been quick to step up in the wake of this disaster. they spoked google's person finder to check on the status of loved ones and apple is making it easy for i tune users to donate to the american red cross. >> the usgs tells abc 7 news the

media partner from jail earlier today. he's accused of killing jordan almgren, the little brother of his best friend. it was a difficult day at timber point elementary where jordanñr was a fourth grader. >> i'm heart sick, and i can't even imagine how that poor family must feel. it's devastating. in the mercury news interview schultz spoke about his turbulent life and his family's concern about his mental state and he was seen briefly on saturday and he spent a night at the almgren home after a fight with his mom and he is being held on $1 million bail. sky 7 hd was over fremont and mary afters around 8:30 shortly after the man was hit by a car. the driver stopped and is cooperating with authorities. investigators say it appears either the driver or bicyclist may have run a red light and the crash happened near fremont high school, but no staff and students were involved. bart service is back to normal

after smoke from a train filled the station in san francisco this morning and it happened in mission station around 7:15 and passengers got off the trains safely. a commuter described the tense moments. >> a huge crash like someone slamming a laptop on the ground and everyone turned to look and it was a loud crash. the train came to!u a halt and the entire tunnel filled with smoke and everyone bolted. >> this is what it looked like down on the platform as smoke filled the air. this photo was posted on twitter by aaron esky. bart says the smoke was because of a mechanical problem. now a follow-up on a story. we told you about a woman who accused bart police of using excessive force when she was being booked at the santa rita jail. now we've learned the accused officer has been cleared. abc 7 news reporter vic lee has more. >> megan sheehan was arrested march 17th on the night of st. patrick's day. after a heavy night of drinking

she ended up at the lake merit bart station platform. sheehan was arrested by police after she became drufrj and belligerent belligerent. she says she's embarrassed and has no qualms about that arrest. it is what happened later that left the 28-year-old bartender model in the hospital looking like this. >> don't touch me like that. oh! >> you might want medical. >> sheehan was being booked at santa rita jail. you see her at the counter in the upper right hand corner of the security video and the bart officer standing with her and suddenly some kind of altercation starts and she's thrown to the ground. the jail's security camerai] shows it happened quickly. here's another angle, a better one. an oakland cop grabs her right hand while the bart officer take hers left hand and they throw her down face first. sheehan was lying unconscious in a pool of blood and nurses were called and she was treated and taken to eaton medical center in castro valley. >> i don't believe that they

should have, you know, broken four bones in my face and knocked out some of my teeth. >> reporter: later that night a supervising sergeant comes to sheehan's ward. he tells her he's conducting an excessive force investigation. this is video from his body camera. >> do you know what happened? you don't remember? sheehan believes the interview was inappropriate. >> i don't know what i'm saying. i don't know why they're asking me. who questions somebody that intoxicated and that sedated? >> after a short while the sergeant ends the interview. >> we don't want to hurt anybody. we just want your cooperation, okay? >> after the suit was filed bart responded under oath to interrogatories or questions by sheehan's attorney. bart said the incident was reviewed by use of force review board and that the jailhouse takedown was within bart's policies and procedures. john scott is sheehan's attorney. >> if this is in their policy

when she turned 25 when she got an email about the closure of the college in milpitas. >> i said brittany, don't worry. mama will handle this. >> the parent company, corinthian colleges was trying to sell all 28 schools. >> they said that it wouldn't be affecting the san jose-milpitas campus. the director called me and reassured me. >> reporter: corinthian had struggled financially after they were fined by the department of education for providing false information on its jobs placement program. in the end no one was willing to buy the colleges. here's what they said. unfortunately, the current regulatory environment would not allow us to complete a transaction with several interested parties that would have allowed for a seamless transition for our students. sandra yip was trying to earn an associate degree and had only one class left to complete. >> it left me to think what should i do now? >> what are you going do now? >> i was thinking of going in there and talking to them and seeing what's going on?

>> why are we told to get out? >> we followed her inside but were told to leave campus because it was private property. >> i was almost v this catch -- it was a surprise for me. they're hoping they'll be able to transfer some of their credits to a community college. >> lyanne melendez, abc 7 news. a blowout financial news report by apple and thanks to the popularity of the iphone the company reports earnings of $2.32 per share on revenue of $58 billion far surpassing most analyst expectations and apple sold more than $61 million iphones in the quarter and sales grew 71.2% in china where apple has big hopes for expansion. apple didn't report any results for the new apple watch which went on sale this month. speaking of popularity beyond all expectations. >> spencer christian in the sunshine. >> the sunshine is popular today, that's for sure.

it's been almost summer like in locations and we have sunny skies right now although low clouds and fog are returning to the coast, but sunny skies above and check out the highñi temperatures so far, 88 degrees and santa rosa and mid-80s and 76 is the high in san francisco and 63 on the coast and half moon bay and here's the rooftop camera looking a top the embarcadero with blue skies. cooler in most areas tomorrow with the cooling sea breeze which will accompany the coastal fog. temperatures will rebound on thursday. here is the satellite image showing the disturbance being deflected to the north and it will not have an effect on our weather and we do have the returning low clouds in the fog bank and the marineok layer giving us cooler conditions tomorrow. so here's the forecast animation and starting at 11:00 tonight at which point we will see the fog

stacking up at the coastline and it will move locally across the bay and inland overnight and not so much to the east bay and to the peninsula and we'll have patchy fog in the south bay, as well and because of that fog moving in like that with the sea breeze, the low temperatures are dropping to the upper 40s in the north bay. the low 50s right around the bay and upper 40s around the coast and tomorrow is when we'll see the more significant drop in temperatures with the highs tomorrow and sunny in the south bay with highs only in the mid to upper 70s and that's mild and not like today's warmth and we'll see 75 and 72 palo atto and notice a difference in the coast and breezy and cool with highs in the upper 50s. downtown san francisco, high of 64 tomorrow after a high of 76 today. up in the north bay we'll see 79 in santa rosa and 76 in oakland. and the inland east bay will have highs in the upper 70s to

live from the kgo tv broadcast center, this is abc 7 news. . here are today's headlines where you live as we come up on 4:30. breaking news in baltimore police and protesters clashing over the death of 25-year-old freddie gray who was arrested earlier this month and then died of a spinal cord injury while he was in police custody. the governor of maryland has just dcwared a state of emergency. police say at least seven officers are suffering from right now from major injuries including one who is unresponsive andfá broken bones. police have arrested 18-year-old william schultz accused0l of stabbing 9-year-old jordan almgren of discovery bay.

schultz was a family friend who spent the night at almgren's home and laura anthony tweeted said the boy was the smallest and the loudest on the team. laura will have a live report coming up on abc 7 news at 5:00. the devastating earthquake in nepal has killed more than 4,000 people. secretary of state john kerry said the u.s. will provide $10 million in aid to that country. sergio quintana spoke to some bay area survivors in nepal and he'll have a report coming up at 5:00. today we're getting a closer look at the challenges rescuers in nepal are facing on mount everest and in the busyxd capital city. nbc's marcy gonzalez with the latest. >> reporter: two days of desperation, people still buried in the rubble of saturday's 7.8 magnitude earthquake. rescuers in nepal digging with bare hands and raw determination, finding survivors and many more victims. the death toll now surpassing

firefighters quickly -- 200 firefighters help get the bulk of the fire under control shortly after noon. this is from our sister station kabc. you can see the smoke stretched far into the sky and i nearby school was evacuated and ten homes were threatened by the flames and thankfully nobody was hurt. >> let's mret a check of the weather and it's been a pleasant day so far. >> that's true. it was warm today and it will cool down tomorrow and warm up again rather significantly

later. here is a live look at 7 hd. temperatures along the coast have dropped sharply from where they were erler in in the day and still warm inland. mainly quiet day although we may see thunderstorms between atlanta and miami and a couple of showers or thunder showers up in the dakotas and maybe a few sprinkles up in the pacific northwest and across california tomorrow and mainly sunny and dry and upper 80s in chico and 91 in fresno and 86 in los angeles tomorrow and here in the bay area we'll see high temperatures on the mild side inland and we'll see upper 70s to low 80s. and upper 60s to 70 arne the bay and we'll have a cooling sea breeze tomorrow and highs in the coast will only be in the upper 50s and here's a look at the projected highs and this will give you an idea of the warm-up. this time of year averaged in 72 in san jose.

diane sawyer's exclusive ground breaking interview with bruce jenner is sparking a national conversation about transgender issues. >> more than 17 million people

tuned in friday night and today abc news reporter chris conley has a look at parts of the interview never seen before. >> the former olympic champion pulling back the curtain on life as a transgender person now transitioning to a woman. jenner also eager to spark a new national conversation. >> i'm me. i'm me. i'm a person, and this is who i am. i'm not stuck in anybody's body it's just who i am as a human being. >> reporter: this morning jenner recalling the early stages of transition, not ready then to share this secret with the world, yet besieged by paparazzi. >> everybody thinks they've seen changes, changes in your face changes -- >> yes! i give them ammunition, okay? >> but why? >> because i'm trying to live with myself. >> so this was you venturing out for yourself. >> absolutely, for nobody else but myself. >> into the rollerblade. >> trying to be myself. >> it looked a little bit like
