definition of marriage is not an issue here, but what is is of course whether the constitution guarantees same-sex couples the right to marriage. hundreds showed up in front of the supreme court in washington to listen to the latest arguments on same-sex marriages. 14 couples are challenging a decision by a circuit court of appeals which upheld same-sex marriage bans in four states. kentucky, michigan, ohio and tennessee. proponents of same-sex marriages like billy bradford of san francisco argued they have equal constitutional rights citing the well known case loving versus virginia that did away with a law that did not allow interracial marriage. >> we are no different than any other couple in this country. >> randy thomason of save california is an opponent of same-sex marriages and says the

court should rule it is a state jurisdiction under the state constitution and the people who put it there. the supreme court will also decide that states must recognize marriages from other states where they are legal. >> it shouldn't matter what state you live in. it shouldn't matter what city or locality. you should still have the same rights as any other american. >> matthew manziel were married in san francisco and a job transfer to tennessee where the ban exists. >> you go to these states and say we're married. oh texas sorry. >> you're strangers now. >> if the court says there are no constitutional rights then decisions made by the lower court will likely be overturned. the court will issue its ruling at the end of june. >> reporter: and right now more people are gathering for this rally which is expected to last for about two hours. i'm live in san francisco, lyanne melendez, abc 7 news. >> thank you very much. >> violent clashes in baltimore are leading to the first in

major league baseball history and the orioles will play a home game without any fans in attendance tomorrow. today people are still protesting and not like yesterday. it has remained peaceful each as demonstrators and police officers came face-to-face. a city wide curfew takes effect in two hours. yesterday's clashes between rioters and police after the death of freddie gray. 19 buildings were burned and looters raided businesses. police arrested 235 people, one person out of every seven arrest side a juvenile. 20 officers were injured and president obama says there is no excuse for what happened. >> when individuals get crowbars and start prying open doors to loot, they're not protesting. they're not making a statement. they're stealing. when they burn down a building they're committing arson. >> and as for the rest of baltimore, many people there showed their resiliency today.

they woke up and went to work cleaning broken glass and metal and other remnants on the riots. >> and now to the earthquake recovery in nepal and its effect on several families here in the bay area and sunnyvale resident vinh truong was among four americans killed in an avalanche and mount everest's base camp. vinh loved to hike. kenwood's john reader survived the avalanche and is in the process of making his way home. john spent a few days helping rescue and recovery efforts there and this afternoon another bay area family is holding out hope that their 21-year-old son is safe. >> now today with social media there is a new kind of access than we've had before and we are hoping that for instance me being here that somebody may have a connection with somebody down there in that area. petaluma's spencer dickinson just to call his parents before the earthquake before he was starting to trek the base camp.

his dad is thinking of flying to nepal to search for him and the family is worried sick. >> there is one more bright spot. 83 hours after the earthquake, a 28-year-old man has been pulled from the rubble from a collapsed house in kathmandu. it took rescuers six hours. medical supplies are being loaded up for nepal from san leandro today. wayne freedman is there with more. wayne? >> reporter: good afternoon, cheryl. take a look at this warehouse behind me. it looks very discreet inside and inside it looks like a hospital and that's good news for quake victims. >> it's a long way from san leandro to nepal at least in miles, but right next door inside this warehouse. >> any one of these boxes could end up in a nepal container. >> reporter: boxes and crates filled with medical supplies for people with an overwhelming need not only in nepal but around the world and that's why we hear about a non-profit called med share only in times of disaster. >> we have so much and there's

freedman abc 7 news. governor brown announced new legislation today that would increase fines for water wasters and allow local governments to issue penalties and brown announced the bills after meeting with more than a dozen, and the maximum penalty for wasting water will be increased to $10,000 a day. that's up from $500. >> we're pushing as far as we can within the confines of the legal structure as it exists. a second proposal from the governor would streamline environmental reviews from some water supply projects such as recycling facilities and this effort comes a month after the governor ordered water use to be cut 25% statewide and to deal with the state's desperate condition. 55-year-old robert lastinger

of fremont is accused of touching several patients inappropriately while they were sedated. police have identified four victims between march 15th and april 2nd. lastinger was placed on leave. a teenager accused of killing his best friend's little brother won't face the death penalty. the d.a. will not seek the death penalty. schultz told a bay area reporter that he killed jordan almgren to see what it was like to kill a human being. >> a woman died in a mobile home fire in santa rosa today. this happened at the santa rosa village mobile home park. firefighters were able to get the woman out of the burning home, but she died after suffering severe burns and no word yet on what started that fire. president obama is hosting japanese prime minister shins onzo abe at a state dinner. the president and the first lady welcomed him ban hour ago.

7 hd and we had the fog and drizzle this morning in spots and right now we're locking at a lot of cloud cover and mostly high-level clouds and temperatures compared to 24 hours ago, down 14 degrees in san jose. san carlos 18 degrees cooler and down 12 in livermore and 8 degrees cooler in santa rosa. on average, the sea breeze along with the fog helped to take the temperatures down anywhere from 5 to 15 degrees. gusting out of the southwest to fix in fairfield and 24 at sfo and that's what's going to keep us quite comfortable. right now you're looking at a low clouds and a few wispy high clouds. it is in the mid-60s and san carlos 68 half moon bay and from the tower camera, you are looking at some of those high clouds filtering the sun. 76 in santa rosa along with fairfield and 69 napa and 75 degrees in livermore. here's a beautiful view from the

emoriville camera. patchy coastal fog and we're looking at sunny conditions and breezy at the coast and get ready for 90-degree heat inland thursday and friday. the pacific satellite picture shows you what brought the cooler breezier conditions today. it's dry so as it passes through it will help to clear out any of the clouds later tonight and we're looking at patches of clouds tomorrow morning. temperatures rebound in a big way thursday as high pressure builds in and the wind switches direction. tomorrow though, we'll keep it comfortable and 56 east coast and very close to today's levels and then a big jump in the temperatures on thursday. look at those low 90s showing up inland and beach weather, 70s along the coastline, but it's not going to last very long. tomorrow morning we'll see high clouds and a few low clouds around and the temperatures upper 40s to the low 50s. you may need to take a light jacket with you when you head out of the house. 76 tomorrow afternoon in the
