hollyfield just talked to spencer's dad. >> reporter: i did and bob dickinson said this is the most terrifying experience of his life. you can imagine the elation he got last night at 7:52 yes he does know the exact minute that call came in. >> said hi dad. those were the first words and i was -- spencer! screaming and he goes dad, be quiet. he goes, i'm on a s.a.t. phone and only have a couple moments. call my mom. tell her i'm okay. >> reporter: so he still doesn't know if 21-year-old spencer dickinson is hurt or completely safe but he knows he's alive. spencer's family knew he was headed to mt. everest base camp right before the earthquake. it was terrifying to see the video from when the earthquake

hit. he has had sleepless nights of worrying and the waiting was getting more and more difficult. of course he did call spencer's mom right away. she lives in san diego. cameras were rolling when she got the joyful news. >> that was sheer joy. [ inaudible ] together for a long time we still have a lot of love and a bond for ore childrenur children and that was reunited to feel that sense of joy that only a parent can feel for their child. >> reporter: what a great phone call he got to make. bob dickinson says his faith in a higher power helped him get through the waiting. i asked what brought spencer to nepal he said that his son has

been traveling the world by himself on a spiritual journey since october. he is hoping to talk to him again very soon but he would like for him to come straight home. he would love to give him a homecoming celebration. reporting live amy hollyfield abc 7 news. >> thank you. and new drone video released is this morning shows the devastation in kathmandu. this morning, 5,150 deaths are being blamed on the quake. almost 7500 of the roughly 10000 injuryed remain hospitalized. the u.n. predicts $415 million in aid will be needed in nepal in the next three months. and in a small sign that life is returning to normal banks in kathmandu opened for a few hours to long lines of people desperate for cash. in the middle of disaster a moment of pure joy.

look at this baby. rescue crews pulled this baby from under the rubble. he was recovered 22 hours after the quake. he is in stable condition. initial exams did not show internal injuries. no word yet on what happened to the baby's parents. and so many people around the bay area want to do what they can do to help nepal. if you visit our website www.abc7news.com we have a list of organizations in the area. the long time san francisco pub won't be open any time soon after a fire. the blaze broke out at liverpool lil's which has been serving customers for four decades. >> reporter: the fire was contained and no one was injured. this video shows heavy smoke coming from the building earliermorning. it's located on san francisco's

lyon's street near lombard. the first crew on the scene called for backup within minutes. the firefighters dragged hoses on to the roof. they had to rip out the ceiling to get the water inside. the building houses liverpool lil's. a picture posted on the pub's facebook page two weeks ago shows a visit from giant's pitcher tim lincecum. investigators say the fire may have started in a shed out back and spread. >> the fire had extended from that area up into the unit above. so we had fire in the walls and the attic space which requires a lot of overhaul activities. >> i'm shocked about it right now. i don't know what's going to happen. it's been here forever. i hope it's not too badly damaged. so it's got a lot of history in

here. >> reporter: the unit above used as office space also burned. the liverpool lil's dining area and kitchen suffered a lot of smoke and water damage. flames did not spread to other buildings and the cause of the fire is under investigation. new this morning in east oakland police have three people in custody for shooting at officers. police were investigating a homicide overnight when someone opened fire on them. the men drove off and crashed during a police chase. officers caught two of the men and one got away. they set up a perimeter look for that third man. >> there was one house we did have to search because we were worried that there was a family in the house or other occupants that could be held hostage. we were able to clear that house and make sure the family was

safe. >> police were able to track down and arrest the third suspect and recovered two firearms from the scene. school is back in session and the streets of baltimore are mostly peaceful after riots forced a city-wide curfew last night. police say the curfew seemed to work and around lunchtime today the baltimore symphony orchestra played a free outdoor concert. on monday 235 people were arrested after the funeral of freddie gray. 3,000 national guard troops and law enforcement officer remain in the city. the curfew will be in effect for the rest of the week. a by-product of the unrest after two games of postponing games the white sox and the orioles will play today at camden yards but the game will be closed to the public. it is the first time in major league baseball history that fans haven't been allowed to watch a game. a teenager is scheduled to

be arraigned in the stabbing death of a nine-year-old boy. william schultz is charged with murder. he attacked the boy on sunday morning. his brother was friends with schultz. the teen was evacuated because he was displaying delusional behavior the day before the stabbing. he confessed to a reporter that he killed the boy to see what it is like. the d.a. will not seek the death penalty because of schultz's age. we have details on a proposal for the 49ers to take over a soccer park near levi's stadium. and it may not happen? >> reporter: for now, cheryl, this is being called a small victory for youth soccer here in santa clara. the soccer park is in the shadow of levi's stadium on prime real

estate. the 49ers initially made the proposal to the city of santa clara hoping to convert the park into stadium park. $15 million would have been paid by the team over 39 years. the city would have received a cut of parking revenues and $3 million for field improvement at local schools. but soccer parents were not amused. they were upset that the proposal did not call for a replacement field. we spoke to city council member lisa gilmore herself a soccer mom. she got a call from a 49ers executive saying they are going back to the drawing board and expects another proposal down the road. >> it is almost a sure bet that it will happen but i don't think that the community will give up the park without a huge fight. >> reporter: we folk to a 49ers

a japanese leader this morning addressed a joint session of congress for the first time. shinzo abe stood by the apologies for world war ii abuses. he also expressed condolences for american lives lost fighting japan. the prime minister received repeated standing ovations by congress. president obama and abe are trying to forge an economic alliance with ten other countries. if your mom doesn't like tattoos, they may not be the only one. customers say their tattooed wrist may prevent your apple watch from work.
