was going to get paid for his match with manny pacquiao. no, no, no. it's his kids. wait until you hear what his kids are getting for the fight. good thursday morning to you all. we begin with the massive show of solidarity across the country, sparked by the death of freddie gray. >> thousands of people converged on baltimore and other cities across the country. one of the biggest and loudest protests taking place in new york. more than 100 demonstrators were hauled away in handcuffs, clashing with police after blocking the holland tunnel and marching through manhattan for hours. also a show of force by police in ferguson, missouri, facing off with protesters for the second straight night. officers in riot gear dispersed a crowd after several businesses were broken into. a much calmer night than tuesday, when three people were shot and rioters damaged squad

cars. vocal but peaceful rallies taking place in washington, d.c., just outside the white house. in boston, they gathered at police head quarters before blocking the streets. a huge demonstration in baltimore where it all started. things remained calm as protesters called it a night before the curfew took effect. abc's bazi kanani is there now with the latest. bazi, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, reena. morning, t.j. no reported problems here in baltimore overnight. city officials say all the extra security and curfew are working. residents are relieved. >> no racist police. >> reporter: still taking to the streets, their demands for justice. >> we stand as nation. we fight for our rights. >> reporter: protests against the alleged police assault against freddie gray who died of a fractured spine after his arrest. spreading from baltimore city hall to the steps of the white house. >> you gotta get on the sidewalk. >> reporter: in baltimore, peace prevailed on a second night of curfew enforced by 2,000 national guard troops and 1,000 police officers after the city erupted on monday into rioting, looting, and arson. >> people are picking up bags and brooms and cleaning up. parents are keeping kid at home and off the streets. ♪ >> reporter: the baltimore symphony playing an outdoor concert as calm returns to the city. but precautions still in place. stands empty at camden yards. a major league baseball game closed to the public for the first time ever. and that mother seen in this viral video angrily going after her son after seeing him in the crowd with a rock says her teen has learned a humbling less yon. >> i trust that he understands at the end what i did was not for the cameras but was for the love that i have for him. >> reporter: protesters will have to keep waiting to find out

how freddie gray got hurt. baltimore police are expected to hand over their preliminary findings to the state attorney's office tomorrow. the details will not be made public. reena? t.j.? >> what about the federal investigation into gray's death? any word on when to expect the results? >> reporter: well, we do know that officials with the justice department met with freddie gray's family a couple of days ago. they would only say that we can expect the findings of their investigations into his death and into baltimore police tactics, more generally, that we can expect those in the coming weeks. >> all right, bazi kanani, live, in baltimore. thank you so much. new details about what may have happened in the police van after freddie gray was arrested. >> a police document obtained by "the washington post" suggests gray's injuries may have been self-inflicted. another prisoner who was also in that van allegedly told

investigators he could hear gray banging against the wall and believes he was intentionally trying to injure himself. that man could not see gray because they were separated by a metal partition. by the time they arrived at the police station, gray was unconscious. stay with abc news for the latest on baltimore and protests around the country. we'll hear more from the mayor of baltimore later on "good morning america." breaking news from nepal's earthquake zone. rescuers have pulled a teenage boy from the rubble of a building alive. crowds cheering hours ago as a team of americans brought the boy to safety. he had been trapped between two collapsed floors for five days. he was pulled out of the rubble wearing a new york yankees t-shirt. his face covered with dust. but he appeared to be alert. a rare bit of good news iffrom that american rescue team. another rescue to show you. take a look at this image. a 4-month-old baby pulled from the debris nearly a day after the quake. exams found little boy suffered no internal injuries. soldiers initially thought the child had not survived. hours later, they heard his cries and they returned to the

area to pull him to safety. meantime new pictures show the moment saturday's quake struck. a building falling over into a busy street here. the death toll now over 5500 people. a plane with former president bill clinton and chelsea clinton on board made an emergency landing in south africa. one of the plane's engines failed. it was on the ground for less than 45 minutes. the clintons are visiting projects funded by the family's foundation. alarming new details about the pilot who crashed his airliner into the french alps. we're now learning that five years ago the faa raised questions about his mental health. the agency questioned if they should grant a pilot's license to andreas lubitz in 2010. he deliberately crashed the plane last month, killing 149 people on board. top air security officials are making surprising statements about the gyrocopter flight into

>> police are searching for the last three home invasion suspects still on the loose after gun fire exchange that stretched from the east bay to the peninsula. amy has the latest. >> reporter: police are telling people they should not be afraid. this all started at about 5:00 yesterday afternoon in fremont. it started as a home invasion robbery but the police chased the suspects all the way across the bridge into men low park. when they got here they ditched their cars and took off on foot. they did fire at officers. they didn't hit any of the officers but did hit one of the police cars. police caught two men and recovered their guns but the third man got away. >> there's no reason to be alarmed in this area here. again, we have some leads of where we believe we may find the suspect and we're actively pursuing those leads. >> police did searc
