live from the kgotv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> new at 11:00 protesters storm oakland city hall and take over the council meeting. >> that loud crowd demanding change and declaring victory. good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm ama daetz. the issue is an impending vote regarding a vacant lot the city wants to sell to developers. abc news reporter lilian kim is live at oakland city hall with the story. lilian? >> dan overall it was a peaceful protest and for protesters it was mission accomplished. a chain of protesters entered oakland city hall an hour into the meeting. the plan was simple. shutdown the proceedings and take over the council chambers. >> it is illegal but it is very nonviolent.

we just want to make sure our voice is heard. >> protesters held their own so-called meeting after council members adjourned and left the room. >> certainly people have different styles and tactics. >> the issue was over this vacant lot on 12th street near lake merritt. they were going to vote on whether to sell it to condo developers. protesters are celebrating and for one of them, the effort was worth missing the warriors game. >> we were waiting our whole lives to see the warriors do this well. we will have a chance to see more warriors going forward. >> as for any arrests, there were none. >> as for crowds we deal with, this is one of the most peaceful ones we will encounter. >> a process that may be repeated in the future. they say they may use this tactic again. lilian kim, abc7 news.

>> meantime, more growing pains tonight. a move is under way to stop developpent in of market rate housing in a san francisco neighborhood that is ground zero in the fight over gentrification. he wants a 45-day more for -- moratorium in a one and a half square mile area of the mission district. he says it is an attempt to address the displacement of long-time mission residents. >> we need a new direction. until and unless we take a drastic step we will lose this neighborhood. >> they say 7% of housing being built in the mission is considered affordable. opponents say a building moratorium would only increase demand. the man accused of driving drunk and hitting a killing a mother and her young daughter had a previous alcohol arrest. >> how does it feel to kill two innocent people? >> emotions boiled over as brian jones left court with angry family members of the

victims following. the judge postponed his arraignment. he faces charges against little jewel yea morales -- julie morales. he is currently out of jail on bail. >> we all days tough unprecedented water cuts. the state water board said they adopted a mandatory reduction in water use statewide. it is up to water agencies to enforce the cuts. they say letting the lawns go brown is the single most important step that can be taken. saving water but keeping streets and sidewalks clean is a challenge that a lot of bay area communities are wrestling with during the drought. one of our viewers got in contact with us after seeing a worker pressure washing a sidewalk. katie has a look at a tricky challenge these days.

not certain what is behind the increase in cases. so far this year three rabid bats were found in fremont and pleasanton. last year rabies was detected in just two bats county wide. a bicyclist died after being hit in danville. the victim is a 55-year-old man from danville. the driver is cooperating with investigators. hillary clinton will be in san francisco to raise money for her presidential campaign. two fundraisers are planned at the homes of millionaires in san francisco. the chronicle reports tickets to each event are $2700. on friday clinton will attend a luncheon at the portola valley home of john done huh -- donaho. the warriors shutdown in game two. the grizzlies won it 97-90. memphis is the first to beat golden state at oracle arena

difficult day for loved ones of survey monkey ceo dave goldberg. he was buried during a private ceremony at stanford. his wife, facebook coo, sheryl sandburg, wrote a touching tribute on facebook. she said, things will never be the same but the world is better for the years my beloved husband lived. goldburg died after an accident on a treadmill in mexico. biologists hope they can investigate the death of a whale that washed ashore in pacifica. the 32-foot humpback whale was discovered at the state beach this morning. biologists couldn't get close enough because the tide was so high. another whale washed ashore on the same beach three weeks ago. dwoog -- google is trying to recruit more women and minorities. they said it is part of a

broader program aimed at making sure the company reflects its users. the $150 million will not hurt google. the company had revenues of $17 billion in the first quarter. a lot of people look forward to girl scout cookie time, but bay area cookie sales were down sharply. that means the budget for scout summer camp is coming up short as a record number of girls are signing up. tonight how girl scouts are living their motto to be prepared. >> they are the most popular girl scout camp in northern california. >> my goal is to challenge myself. >> it is amazing in here. >> i like getting to know people from different troops and exploring. >> this troop from san jose is here for the weekend tackling the rope course. >> girl scouts has helped me by making me more independent. >> most girls pay to attend camp but cookie sales offset a lot of the cost.

when the cookie sales were down 6% this year -- >> it is a big deal. >> she is the ceo of girl scouts of southern california. that's 50,000 girls. membership is up. the number of girls actually selling cookies is down. 25% did not sell cookies. >> it is a lot of time for the parents to support their daughter and to go door door-to-door and to participate in booth sales. >> it didn't help that they ran out of thin mints and samoa's, the most popular cookie. the cause? layoffs and one plant was closed. >> those are the challenges in an off cookie year. >> it could have been worse but the scouts raised $3 million in donations to renovate their camps and outdoor centers. that includes a new lodge and cabins in san mateo county to the ropes course in marin.

the skies were hazy when the sunsets. it wasn't the cloud cover, but the dust. the temperatures in the 50s and danville is 46 degrees. visibility is good and looking across the bay because we don't have fog to speak of. slight chance of showers on thursday afternoon and evening. here is where the showers will be coming from. it is this area of low pressure near british columbia that is a cold low developing. it will not move over the pacific and pick up moisture. needless to say as it dives southward we will see some changes. on thursday specifically sierra will see the snow showers and the snow level down to 6,000 feet. if you are traveling up there, snow level down to lake level. it will bring potential for a

few showers. not much in terms of cloud cover. by thursday afternoon you will see a few returns in the south bay, evening and a few showers in the north bay as well. lingering showers into the wee hours of friday morning. not a lot, but it is something. tomorrow morning mid40s to the low 50s. clear to the north a few clouds around the to the south. you will need a jacket or sweater. it will start off in the cool side but up to 80 in antioch. 76 santa rosa and 67 in oakland. tall low alto 70. 71 in san jose. san francisco 63. 59 in half moon bay. we'll see a few clouds, breezy at times tomorrow. a slight chance of showers on thursday. and then if you have plans with mom and it included the outdoors there will be a little sunshine to brighten her day.
