live from. kgo-tv broadcast center, this is abc 7 news. >> i left my house at 3:00 we got here at 5:00. >> worse than rush hour. >> a traffic mess. bridge and bart closures on top of lots of events around the bay area today leads to a lot of cars on the road and plenty of impatience. good evening everyone. i'm katie marzullo. we have a live look, san mateo bridge cam. work began late last night and the traffic problems really kicked in today. abc 7 news reporter leslie brinkley joins us live with a look. >> reporter: that's right, katie. with the san mateo bridge closed the traffic converged here on the bay bridge. you add in a giants game you add in mother's day, and it was a torturously slow drive in every direction. this tang belled mess of traffic originated with the shutdown of

all lanes on the san mateo bridge friday night. the first time the entire bridge has been resurfaced since 1967. so saturday, people piled onto the bay bridge as their alternate route. whether a day trip to the city a 6:00 giants game it was gridlock. >> i left my house at 3:00 we got here at 5:00. we ate our snacks for the game before we got here. >> a two-hour drive from livermore. >> 24/580 interchange was really bad, like rush hour, worse than rush hour. >> you drive from sacramento, a bad drive? >> not until we got to berkeley. >> and then? >> then the bridge. it took us awhile to get over the bridge. >> reporter: the other direction wasn't any better driving between news stories. our news crew clocked in 2 1/4 hours san mateo to oakland. expect another rough drive for mother's day on sunday. the san mateo bridge will reopen

weekend. bart service has been suspended between the fruit vale and coliseum airport stations. a crew working on a rail replacement project there. a bus bridge will help riders travel between the stations, but bart says there could be 30-minute delays. service is expected to be running again monday morning. parking fees are increasing on june 1st at three bart stations. the price is going up 50 cents at the two concord and millbrae bart stations. right now turning to the south bay, san jose police are going door to door searching for a possible gunman. they have traffic blocked off at branam lane and vista park drive in south san jose, residents say they're not being allowed pack in their homes. mess have not said who they're looking for or if anyone was injured. warriors now backed into a corner. they need three wins in the next four games to move on in the nba playoffs. and seen here on abc 7 today, the grizzlies outmuscled and

mile-wide pat of destruction. homes were destroyed many more damaged. a second tornado touched down south of the first one. emergency crews are searching for damage in the area. it was more than just tornados that hit the region and we'll have a deeper look at the destructive storms coming up at 11:30. abc 7 news meteorologist drew tuma has been following the situation and joins us business a closer look. >> this is the fifth day in a row that severe weather has troubled the midwest. live doppler radar 7 hd along with satellite, we'll show you numerous severe thunderstorms and tornado watches were posted and for good reason. a cold front moved east. 45 reported tornados occurred throughout the evening as far north as nebraska, as far south as dallas texas. now this entire severe weather threat moves east for sunday, so strong tornados, very large hail, damaging winds possible from omaha, st. louis and as far south as houston.

covering novato oakland, sunnyvale, all the bay area this is abc 7 news. someone who didn't have a driver's license caused a big mess in vallejo. investigators say he crashed a bmw through the glass window of the cash 1 business on spring road today. the entire car ended up inside the store, glass everywhere. no one was hurt. in san francisco, police are looking into a crash involving a tour bus in the financial district. the bus hit an suv just before 4:00 this afternoon at california and sansom streets. at least six have minor injuries. all lanes on the northbound connector 280 to 8880 in san jose are open after a crash involving a propane tanker.

star after suddenly surfacing near the new jersey shore. in 2012 the shark nicknamed mary lee was lifted from the water and tagged with a tracker. most of the last few months she's been in the gulf of mexico, then suddenly this week she appeared near long beach island where the shark attacks occurred that inspired the movie "jaws." thousands are tracking her and following an unofficial mary lee twitter page. authorities in west compton on the lookout for a kangaroo-napper. someone stole a 5-month-old joey and goats from the zoo's winter hold facility. you're looking at video of adult kangaroos at the zoo. the joey hasn't developed fur yet. zookeepers are worried because the baby needs its mother for the first full year of life. forgot to get mom something for mother's day? you're not alone. this was the line at the hallmark store in saratoga. you can see a lot of people there, cards in hand, for mom.

live from the kgo-tv broadcast center, this is abc 7 news. good evening. i'm katie marzullo. tonight police are on the lookout for a possible gunman in south san jose. right now they have traffic blocked off at branam lane and vista park drive. they have not said if anyone has been hurt. supporters of a mother and her 14-month-old daughter who were killed last week in a suspected dui crash want the driver charged. they gathered in livermore today to mourn the loss of esperanza morales and julie. police asked for patience with the investigation, indicating charges are coming. the san mateo bridge is closed this weekend as crews work to repave the entire span.

on the beach today. right now, tropical storm ana has sustained winds of 60 miles an hour. it's expected to make landfall sometime tomorrow. coastal communities have built up mounds of sand to keep water from reaching homes. college commencement ceremonies could be affected. despite the rain and snow on the east coast a new temperature record was reached. according to the national ocean ic and atmospheric association, march of this year was the warmest march on record. scientists say while last year was the warmest year on record these new numbers give 2015 a stab at topping 2016. climatologists say the ten warmest years have occurred in the past 17 years. a manhunt is under way in mississippi tonight after two officers were shot and killed. the officers were on a routine traffic stop in hattiesburg when the gunman opened fire. authorities believe the shooter then took the officers' car.

they found it abandoned at an old train depot. residents have been told to remain in their homes. hundreds of families marched against police violence in washington today. the million moms march stopped at the department of justice to plead for help. a mother from milwaukee started the event after her son was shot and killed by an officer last year. she says she'll lead the march every year in washington until she feels justice has been served. a deadly crash has forced two countries to stop using a certain type of military transport plane. the crash sent a huge cloud of black smoke into the air over seville in southwest seine today. four died. the oar bus a-400m was on a test night at the time. more than 190 countries have ordered the new plane. britain and germany are suspending its use to look into its safety. passengers on board a flight from london to new york last night say it turned into a nightmare shortly before they
