a where i knew that there was no buildings that were going to fall on me and i kind of figured it was going to pass but it just kept going. >> thousands of people streamed out of the downtown district terrified that some of the buildings were going to collapse on them. lots of people also immediately shut down their shocks with went home. >> reporter: abc 7 news reporter sergio quintana arrived in nepal last friday and he said people were cleaning up from the massive quake that hit april 25th. it's fascinating how much things have changed in just a few hours and when we got here there was a final sense of getting back to normality. everyone was starting to get back to normal. today they are back in shock and they are back on guard trying to make sure that their own home doesn't fall on them. >> nobody wants to sleep in their homes or apartment buildings right now. >> you know people had been in tents up until just a few days ago, but tonight they are in tents again because they're

worried that another earthquake will come, another aftershock will come and they don't want to be trapped in their houses. >> reporter: sergio is following the work of a bear area non-profit called motherland nepal. they're trying to bring medical supplies to the rural areas of nepal cut off by debris. the head of the organization said they will need more help than other. >> we gathered funds and donations and asked this team of medical technicians in they will come out here and be here for a while to provide that very basic service and they did. and they're going to be here for a month. >> you need to know that pandy was injured while helping kids escape the orphanage when the quake hit. >> his wife is in the bay area. she told us today when the orphanage started shaking he rushed to get children out of the home. >> when he felt the building was about to collapse he jumped out and fractured his leg and hand. bob and his two children were

worried when they couldn't get a hold of him. >> we kept calling a couple of hours and we never went to sleep. >> coming up at 5:00 she shares more about her husband's brush with death and how she feels about him traveling across the world to help children and at 11:00, orphanage volunteer neil pandy shares his story of surv one the first reporting from nepal using twitter. just after midnight he tweeted this. just had a very strong quake. i'm safe which we were all glad to hear here. sergio said the shaking lasted about 40 seconds and we learned later it was a 7.3 quake that he experienced. these next two tweets show the downtown area of kathmandu seconds after the quake. you can see the crowded market area there and then take a look at this. sergio says there was a sense of panic, understandably. here you see the faces of some of those survivors as they left work in a hurry worried that the buildings would collapse on them as they walked through the

street. >> one last tweet from sergio and the reason really, he is in nepal is to document the relief effort of the bay area man who kathmandu to try to help. coming up at 6:00 sergio will have much more on how that relief effort became a rescue mission today with this new quake. sergio's reporting continues now on twitter. you can follow him at svq journalist. and the strong earthquake this afternoon in northern japan. the magnitude 6.8 quake was centered off the island of honshu and centered hundreds of miles away in tokyo. at this point we don't know of any casualties or damage reported and no tsunami warnings were issued and the quake was centered in the same area as the deadly magnitude 9 earthquake that devastated japan in 2011. a city leader in san carlos is raising safety concerns about a pg&e pipeline. the utility is replacing a section of transmission line to repair some unexplained dents and bulges found last week.

an email found in 2013 compared the line to the line that report you ared in san bruno in 20 taken, but destroyed eight homes. san carlos city councilman is cautioning not to turn that line back on until it is absolutely sure it is safe. a windy day in san francisco and those gusts left their mark in golden gate park. take a look at this. it is believed our gusty weather took down the eucalyptus tree in the rose garden. it shattered the windshield of a car, but no one was hurt. this was the scene in belmont today and sandhya patel is here with more on the windy conditions out there. sandhya? >>. >> dan, the winds were stronger than what i'm looking at and they're still slapping around and let me show you a live picture from the exploratorium camera and let me take a look at the peak wind gusts and 66 miles

an hour at noon and over 40 mile an hour winds at sfo wood acres and san francisco, oakland and more than 30 miles an hour and right now winds are gusting to 41 in sfo, so they just picked up most other areas around 25. we are expecting the winds to dial back and let you know when showers will be showing up coming right up. cheryl? >> sandhya, thanks very much. >> some sad news today, an unbearable tragedy for a middle schooler on his way to school when he was hit and kaled by a muni light rail train in the single side neighborhood. carolyn tyler joins us from the scene tonight. carolyn? >> cheryl it is heartbreaking. that growing memorial right there represents what muni says is its first fatality of the year, but we talked to lots of neighbors who say there have been lots of close calls at this busy intersection. >> he was rushing to catch the muni train to school and it

ended up costing him his life. the victim 12-year-old andrew wu was running in the cross walk across san jose avenue. a car and an suv braked suddenly to avoid him. >> it's not clear how but the boy did make a pivot move off of the secondary vehicle and as a result landed in the street where the lrv was traveling. wu was pinned beneath the train he was trying to take to the middle school. workers across the street heard his mother's screams and one saw her desperate effort to save him. >> she was trying to move the train, actually and she was trying to pull him out from under the train because she saw him moving. >> the distraught father was also there and as the memorial to andrew wu grows, his friends

remember him. >> a stop light is needed on san jose avenue. muni has plans to install a flashing yellow beacon next year. >> in san francisco, carolyn tyler, abc 7 news. >> an alert tonight to parents who vaccinate their kids at sutter health palo alto medical foundation and some vaccines given to their children were not stored properly and may be less effective than normal. they sent out this letter citing one of the vaccine refrigerators had temperature fluctuations from february 2014 to march of this year. the letter also states there are no side effects and that the vaccines may not work to protect patients. a man accused of attempting to rain a san jose school girl in his own homemade his first court appearance today. muhammad khaliqi is also a suspect in another attack. janet hall has the latest.

>> mohammad khaliqi was in court stemming from the two separate attacks in san jose. he did not enter a plea and will be back in court as is customer in these types of cases. the judge ordered no bail. muhammad khaliqi is seen standing off to the side of the courtroom with his head down next to his public defender. today he was charged with four felony counts for false imprisonment and the intent to commit rain. >> it's life in prison and it's scary. you all saw the video and it was a terrifying case. >> police say this home surveillance video-ed catch khaliqi. the video shows him following a 13-year-old girl as shea was walking home from school and he forces his way into the house and starts to attack her. the girl managed to hit him in the face and stunhe leaves stunned. >> the person who he rented a room from saw the video that was on tv and said this looks like this guy and they went to the

way to present time and you can pretty much see an unsettled pattern is unfolding bringing up the two to present time over the pacific. that's why we are expecting some showers. so let me start our computer animation at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow and the clouds will be there and they thicken as the day goes on and can't rule out an isolated shower tomorrow afternoon but most of the energy and the moisture is coming in on thursday. so 5 dlok a.m. for the commute on thursday and you'll start to see some wet roadways and 10:00 a.m. starts to move northward and there is a chance of thunder as we head toward thursday afternoon and evening. rainfall totals through thursday night will look like this the highest in the south and east bay. anywhere from about a half to .8 of an inch is certainly possible for the wettest spots and can't rule out isolated areas and picking up more than that. as far as the snow is concerned winter storm watches going up for thursday and start in the morning and until late thursday night and two to six inches of

snow expected and make sure you have chains if you have a little camping to get away for the weekend. tomorrow morning mid-40s to low 50s and the cloud cover will keep us insulated when you head out the door tomorrow afternoon. like i said, we may see an isolated shower and most of the wet weather will hold off until thursday and it is going to remain breezy and on the cool side and upper 50s to the low 70s for the range and still below average for this time of year and 64 oakland and 66 santa rosa, and palo alto, san jose and 67 and as you take a look at the accuweather seven-day forecast you'll see a slight possibility of an afternoon or evening shower, but it's really thursday that we're watching for the wet weather and maybe some thunderstorms early showers possible friday before we start to go with a dry pattern and hopefully not as windy as it is right now. you can hear me with the winds
