>> the time is 6:00. its saturday, may 16th. good morning, i'm chris nguyen. we will start with a quick look at the weather. meteorologist frances dinglasan is in for lisa argen this morning. francis, how is it looking out there? >> hi, chris. the wind is starting to pick up at sfo. they reporting guts at 23 miles an hour. everywhere it's been pretty light and calm especially in the north bay. nothing like last night where at sfo there were winds up to 30 miles an hour and even mt. tam close to 40 miles an hour. big story is this afternoon not as breezy but temperatures will be below average. in the inland and east bay areas look for mid-60s to low 70s. along the coast cloudy and on the cool side and mid-50s to near 670 and around the bay it's going to be mainly in the 60s

with more sunshine this afternoon. i'll let you know what changes you can expect with the accuweather seven-day forecast coming up. chris. >> francis, thank you. now to sports. and the sensational performance of the golden state warriors. cameras were there as the doubles returned from the bay area early this morning. you can see as the team came in at oakland international airport about an hour ago. the doubles are heading to the western conference finals for the first time in nearly 40 years. the doubles dominated the memphis grizzlies last night with steph curry showing everyone why he's the mvp. curry made the incredible look routine last night. final seconds of the third quarter, the grizzlies were making a run and curry stunned the crowd in memphis with a 62-footer to end the quarter. by the way, this is a shot that steph practices all the time when he finishes warmups at oracle, but he hasn't hit one in a game since college. the practice apparently paid off and helped the team close out

the best of 7 western conference finals with 108-95 victory. larry beil will have more in game six and last night's victory coming up later this hour. you may have heard the sounds of celebration coming from your neighbor's house or the local restaurants and bars. abc7 news reporter alan wang was in emeryville where the east bay was jumping for joy over the victory. she managed to escape and made her way to a friend's house where she was later found. she described the suspect as a black man in his 340's with a gold nose ring and a dragon at that time too on his left arm. >> a 17-year-old was shot on a trail near a high school. he died a short time later. a 19-year-old was arrested during a traffic stop friday morning. police said the two new each other but did not know what led up to the shooting. this morning vallejo investigators say a 16-year-old boy was arrest the just before 6:00 last night, the teen was booked into the solano county juvenile hall. friends and family of russ called for the end it the violence. >> i'm hurt. i'm heartbroken. imagine his parents, they changed his diapers. they did everything for him to live his whole life and one boy just one boy took his life.

>> russ' family said max did not feel safe at the school but the superintendent said it's a save place with a strong security presence. >> an accident happened just after 5:40 yesterday night in the area of glen oaks and wild current way. fire officials say a van was traveling on the street above and making a u-turn when it lost control, crashed through a railing and rolled down an embankment. one man and two women were inside the vehicle. we are told that two people were actually trapped inside that van. but one person was able to make it out on their home. >> initial concerns when we first got there that vehicle was very unstable and had a hypotension of rolling on the victims and on top of our crews that were working. so we initially stabilized the vehicle right away, stabilized the patients and developed rescue systems to bring them down and we successfully brought all three down on a controlled

and safe operation. >> no word yet on the extent of the passengers' injuries. >> good samaritans were quick to intervene when they saw a chaotic scene on a bay area bus thursday afternoon. it happened in morgan hill when a passenger attacked the bus driver. abc7 news reporter janet has the dramatic video that shows what happened. >> this video, taken by a passenger stuck in traffic shows a chaotic scene as a fyten excuse on a crowded bus. >> i looked over and i seen this guy on pretty much on top of the bus driver yelling stop the bus or i'm going to stab you, i'll kill you. >> this person and his two employees were prepping food as usual when they rushed over to help. >> it was great teamwork. >> the erratic passenger threatened the bus driver with a pen and threw the windshield wiper at his head for trying to intervene. >> he lost his left leg in a motorcycle accident years ago

but didn't think twice about his safety. >> somebody was ready to get assaulted, i'm not going to just stand there. >> william lawrence knew he had to act fast when he saw a man grab a metal pipe that's normally used to break the window in case of an emergency. >> the bar would hurt somebody. >> so he came up from behind and pushed the man off the bus. >> he's running down monterey road. luckily no one was hurt on the commute home on bus 68. >> it's commendable they showed concern and were trying to be helpful. >> morgan hill police arrested the man, who is now undergoing a psychiatric evaluation. in morgan hill, abc7 news. brian stow, the giants van who was beaten outside of the stadium, used the incident to talk to kids will bullying. he spoke at a school in scotts valley yesterday. he hopes there will be more opportunities like this to inspire more people. >> i think i'm a great pillar for this kind of contact with what people can experience.

>> stow also asked the students to pledge not to be a bully and to help others who are being bullied. >> authorities are searching for a missing palo alto flight instructor and police say stole a plane and disappeared. mr. adams took off in a small cessna from the palo alto airport last friday. the plane was last seen on radar near the mexican border. he fierce the 24-year-old might have crashed. palo alto police are coordinating with the u.s. coast guard in the search effort. happening today, law enforcement agencies will hold a conference to boost police community relationships. it is being done in partnership with the ncaa. they are building trust and relations in light of recent friction in the communities they serve. it gets underway at 9:00 at eden high school in hayward.

and this morning animal care officials are looking for a man responsible for a sickening case of animal abuse. take a look at the picture. this is maxamillion. he's been beaten and burned and he may not make it. katie marzullo has the story. >> a public works crew found the young dog early thursday morning tied up near death at division and south van ness. animal care and control has named him maxamillion. his injuries are sickening. >> larger burns and the cigarette burns look to us to be older injuries. the blunt force trauma, the damage with internal organs, has to be very recent. >> he is receiving the best possible care, but he may not make it. that only intensifies animal control's desire to find whoever did this. officers are handing out flyers and offering a $500 reward hoping for a lead. >> working in this field, it's the very thing we commit

>> knew this morning, the nfl is planning to change guidelines regarding the way footballs are handled before games. and they will do it in the bay area. the associated press reports the details will be discussed next week at owners meetings happening in san francisco. it's in response to the deflate-gate scandal involving the new england patriots.

the league wants to avoid the possibility that teams could tamper with football. pat's quarterback and tom brady is appealing a four-game suspension handed down by the nfl for his involvement in the controversy. abc7 news has learned about a rash of new very expensive thefts in the bay area batteries from hybrid cars. especially the prius. these thieves appear to be professionals. they canning do it without getting electrocuted. fixing the damage is expensive, up to $10,000. 6:1 is the time. the stanford university band will not be performing at aany away games in the fall. an investigation found band members abused drugs and alcohol during trips and hazed and harassed new band mates. but the band can still play at home games. >> the city of san francisco has

respond today complaints it is dumping thousands of gallons of drinking water an hour on candlestick park. state public health regulations prohibit contractors from using recycled water during dust control operations. crews are required to wet down the plumes of dust to protect nearby residents near the demolition. recycled is not cleared for use when it could be fly through the air and be inhaled or digested. >> the commute is never easy but there are efforts underway to make it easier. officers will be keeping a close eye on some of the most congested areas. abc7 news reporter leeann melendez has the details. >> cars blocking intersections and construction projects have made it harder on everyone to navigate their way through the city. >> i almost got into it with a construction guy the other way -- day because he was trying to make me turn and go a way i didn't want to go. so it's very frustrating and i was trying to get somewhere. it's hard to get somewhere on time these days. >> i'm from atlanta originally and i thought the traffic was bad in atlanta until i got to san francisco.

>> enter the san francisco metropolitan transportation agency. you know, the ones that oversee the parking control officers. >> every construction project has a specific permit and we will make sure any construction project that doesn't have the right to be in the road during rush hour is off the road by rush hour. >> the crackdown will happen monday through friday from 7 to 9 in the morning and evening rush lawyer 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. muni bus drivers can call this batch to report a driver. it is not the first time the city has taken measures to improve the flow of traffic. so do people think it will work? >> no. i don't think they have enough people out here to be ticketing >> the city is asking people to give it some time. >> it will make the streets safer and more reliable. you will never solve every last congestion problem in the city but i think we will make a big dent in congestion to make the streets safer this way. >> the congestion strategy goes into effect in ernest on monday. in san francisco, leeann

melendez, abc7 news. >> approaching 6:18 on this saturday morning. >> happening today oakland mayor libby shaft will consider the -- or deliver the commencement address to mills college graduates. the mayor worked closely with mills college interns during her time on the city council. more than 600 undergrads and graduate students will take part in the 127th comment meant. the ceremony gets underway at 9:45. the mayor is expected to speak at 10:45. time for a full weather check. cooler temperatures this weekend? >> yeah. unfortunately we will stay below average numbers for the next six days, to be exact. let's go to live doppler 7hd to show you what's going on. there are some clear conditions in parts of the north bay where we are seeing some of the coolest numbers. and also just a heads-up, there could be some very thick fog during the morning hours to and from tahoe, especially on i-80. foggy in truckee right now and

there could be some showers and possible thunderstorms this afternoon in the sierra. a live view of sfo shows low clouds in san francisco. it's currently 52. oakland 353. san carlos 54 and morgan hill has dropped down to 46 degrees. this time as we look from emeryville we will show you more of the gray skies. temperatures definitely on the cool side, especially in the valleys with the clear skies. so we lose a lot of heat with the clear conditions overnight. santa rosa 44. napa 49. novato 45 and fairfield also in the 4's right now with concord and livermore still hanging on to the mid-50s. as we look from the exploratorium you can look out toward the bay. the winds have picked up but it's not going to be nearly as breezy as yesterday. partly cloudy throughout the weekend and then we will be cooler than normal throughout most of the accuweather seven-day forecast. so here's why the area of low pressure has moved east. one that brought us some of the rain. and we have an area of high pressure over the pacific. so as air moves from high to

low, the cool and breezy pattern that we saw has moved down a bit. it has come down a bit, but temperatures will stay on the cool side as this trough approaches, as well. so be show average into next week. and how farre we? here's an example in san jose. the average high is 75 degrees and notice we are 67 today. about five to ten degrees below average for many locations. but then we slightly warm up into friday and hopefully next weekend we could see some warmer and closer to normal numbers -- closer to average temperatures. highs today will be 60 in san francisco with clouds along the coast. 58 in half moon bay. 67 in palo alto. 66 in fremont. the warmer spots will be inland. 72 in antioch. and 72 in fairfield. 69 in napa. so below average there, as well. and, of course, if you are heading to the bay to breakers for the adventurous folks and the runners out there a chilly start.

>> coming up on gma, new questions about what was behind the deadly amtrak crash outside of philadelphia. investigators are researching claims that the train was struck by a projectile. the train speeding up and derailing. now the fbi is now getting involved. we are live in philadelphia with the latest. also, the jury has spoken with the trial for boston marathon bomber dzhokhar tsarnaev. reaction is pouring in across the nation and what the victims' families are saying. we want you to take a look at this ten foot gator. he was caught on camera taking a visit to a residential neighborhood in south carolina. we will show you the priceless reaction from the little kid doughs peering through the window who lived through it all. it's all coming up on gma this saturday.

>> good morning and thanks for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. we are starting this half-hour with a quick look at the forecast. meteorologist frances dinglasan is in for lisa argen this morning. >> hi chris. temperatures on the cool side. san francisco it's currently 52. oakland 53. san carlos 54 and morgue hill now it's 4*6 degrees. here's another view for you of the golden gate bridge. beautiful out there. we are starting to see the sun peek through. we will get more sunshine this afternoon but in the inland and east bay areas still cooler than average with temperatures in the mid-60s to low 70s. along the coast and in san francisco look for mid-50s to near 06 and around the bay becoming sunny by about lunchtime and after. 60 to 68 degrees. i will let you know the changes you can expect and when we can get a better warmup coming up. chris. >> francis, thank you. 6:30 is our time. now to the latest in nepal where

the bodies of all eight people onboard a u.s. helicopter went down and they have been recovered this morning. they were performing an earthquake relief mission. abc7 news worster sergio quintana was the only bay area reporter in nepal. he was on a helicopter heading to the recovery site yesterday until they had to turn back because of the weather. >> we almost got to see where this wreckage is. but just based on how steep everything is out there, it's going to be really difficult trying to recover, pick through some of the wreckage and even get clues as to what caused the crash. >> sergio shot this video out of a military helicopter as they tried to reach the crash site. you can see how much damage there is to the rural communities nearby and how steep the terrain is, which is why it was so hard to get to where the helicopter went down. he is on his way home this weekend. you can follow his updates on twitter.

>> new this morning an egyptian court has sentenced muhamed morsi is sentenced to die because of his involvement in a prison break. he briefly rose to power in 2012 as egypt's first democratic president. but he was overthrown just one year later. the death sentence will go to egypt's top religious cleric on june 2nd for confirmation >> burial plans are now set for a bay area victim of the philadelphia train derailment a prayer service will be held in fremont tomorrow for 55-year-old wells fargo executive. he left the bay area 7 years ago but he will be buried sunday afternoon. >> in philadelphia, the train's engineer, also a former bay area man, met yesterday with federal investigators who described him as extremely cooperative. he reportedly told another

engineer after the crash he thought the train had been struck by something. 8 people were killed in the derailment. >> new this morning, president obama is discussing the importance of expanding opportunities to all americans n his weekly address he discusses his attendance at a summit at georgetown university this week. at the summit mr. obama hit on the topics of poverty and inequality and the steps that need to be taken to ensure everyone gets their fair shot. >> that sense of unfairness and powerlessness has helped to fuel the kind of unrest we've seen in places like baltimore and ferguson and new york. it has many causes, from a basic lack of opportunity to groups feeling unfairly targeted by police. which means there's no single solution. but there are many things that could make a difference and could help. >> the president will travel to new jersey on monday to visit with local law enforcement. and he will hear directly about efforts to build trust between the police and the community.

>> google said their self-driving cars are ready to roam and the latest prototypes will hit the streets of mountain view this summer. david louie shows us the new design. >> he will be an attraction or possibly a distraction of the small two-seater electric self-driving car. google designed them this way to see how people reacts to them and interacts with them. a human will retain manual control as needed. its speed is limit today 25 miles an hour. joe has driven by the cars they have tested for six years and speed is not a word he would associate with them. >> they are typically on south lane but going a little too slow so they are already on the slow side, in my experience. >> this nurse has no fears of being struck by one. >> i would definitely trust it to stop. >> you think the technology is ready? >> yes. yes, i do. >> the next phase of testing brings self-driving capability closer to reality for seniors who fear losing their independence and mobility.

>> take a look at this in georgia. six people were seriously hurt when the city bus they were on was hit by a train in an atlanta area suburb earlier this week. it was captured on surveillance cameras mounted inside and outside the bus. bus driver says he was stuck

behind traffic stopped at a red light and wasn't able to clear the railroad tracks in time. several passengers jumped off the bus before impact. the crash spun the bus around 180 degrees. six people suffered serious injuries. >> former massachusetts governor and residential candidate mitt romney found himself taking on more than just political jabs after facing off against heavyweight champ evander hollyfield. the match, done in the name of charity, took place last night in salt lake city. there are times romney showed playful power, even knocking down hollyfield at one point but in the end the five time champion proved too much, with romney's corner decide to go throw in the corner. or throwing in the towel midway through the second round. >> please, don't beat my brains out because if you did, i would have to become a democrat. >> the fight benefited charity

40 miles an hour near mt. tam. today much less windy but it will still be on the cool side and look for partly cloudy conditions throughout the weekend. staying cooler than normal almost throughout the next seven days. here's what's going on in terms of wind and what you can expect. yesterday we reached almost 40 miles an hour at mt. tam and near 30 at sfo. today we are looking for 10 to 15 miles an hour from the west. definitely not as strong but numbers will be on the cool side. hearings a look at that area of low pressure. that has moved east. that brought us a cool and breezy pattern. but this trough will bring us numbers below average throughout the next few days. actually into next week. i want to show you how low it's going to be throughout the next few days. we are going to compare average temperatures to actual numbers for today. for example, in oakland 69 is the average. today we are only going to get up to 65. so that means we will be four degrees below normal.

notice a lot of spots will be below normal even as much as 8 degrees below normal in san jose. but we will get an extra minute or so of sunlight today. this was 14 hours and 14 minutes of day light. highs 65 in milpitas, 68 gilroy. look for the clouds to hug the coast in pacifica at 66. downtown san francisco 60 degrees. and only the upper 60s through napa and sonoma. mid-60s for the east bay with 64 in union city. and look for mild numbers in the inland areas. low 70s for you there. also if you are traveling around the state, we could see some rain showers up in tahoe. 56 for you this afternoon and tomorrow. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. so we've got partly cloudy conditions the steady pattern really sticks around. we are almost on cruise control throughout the week with minor fluctuations.

the rain we got this week certainly didn't end the california drought, but take a look at this video. this is pine crest reservoir in the mountains. it's so full, it's spilling over. most of the water will be used by pg&e to generate electricity, and it spills into another reservoir downstream to be used as drinking water. for now, though, nearby towns remain under severe water use restrictions because the drought is not over. but still it is good to see those images. >> yeah. and we are hoping for some drizzle in the higher elevations today. basically it's going to be not as windy still cooler than average. in san francisco 60. san jose 67. fremont 65. good luck to the runners at the great strides 5k this morning leaving from the justin herman plaza in san francisco at 10:00. and it will be cool for bay to
