broadcast center. this is abc 7 news. good afternoon. thank you for joining us today. i'm ama daetz. >> and i'm larry beil. first at 4:00, unfortunately it has happened again. for the third time in just over a month a whale has washed ashore on a bay area beach. this time on half moon bay. >> this happened when crews began burying the other two whales that washed ashore in pacifica. neighbors there say the whales can't be buried soon enough. abc 7 news rotor wayne freedman is live in pacifica with the story. wayne? >> good afternoon, ama. the first whale that washed a a shore was unique and its cause of death was a mystery they could never figure out.

we get the third whale that washed ashore. let's go to video shot within the hour. this is south of kelly beach state park in half moon bay and the third whale to wash ashore in a little more than a month. it arrived on the same day as authorities went to work cleaning up the last two carcasses on shark parks beach in pacifica. this is the pressure and more fragrant of the two and it may have been the victim of a passing ship and the stench had grown from a mere nuisance to almost intolerable and hence the decision to cover it with sand 20 feet deep. they're working on that and come back tomorrow and do more of it. back in half moon bay, the whale that washed ashore appears to have been dead for a while based on bite marks in its flesh. normally the visitors come to the beach for peace and quiet and they got a spectacle. >> in a way it's beautiful at the same time. >> how? >> because i've never seen a

whale so close and it's just -- i don't know. life and death. >> reporter: after close to a dozen years along the coastline without whales washing ashore, now we it becoming all too common at least this year, and the cause of death at the means of disposal for the latest whale is unknown and it's still too new. to our knowledge we don't even know what kind of whale it is yet. authorities have yet to arrive. live in pacifica at shark park beach, wayne freedman abc 7 news. >> wayne, thank you. >> sky 7 hd shows us the area where emergency crews are responding to a call of a horse in trouble. the horse fell down a 30-foot embankment and got stuck in a tree and it happened at the regional park in martinez. you can see they have a vast area to cover and steep terrain to deal with. we will continue to monitor this rescue effort and bring you updates as they become available. >> fire damaged a vehicle with

the san mateo bridge construction site this afternoon and it's on the foster side of the bridge along highway 92 and sky 7 hd shows us the rain and heavy black smoke that was pouring in the back of the truck and the fire burned the grass around the truck and firefighters were able to keep it from spreading and caltrans has not said if the fire will affect work on the bridge and scheduled to close for resurfacing and maintenance repairs. an alleged high-price prostitute accused of killing a google executive alix tichelman received six years in prison. the 26-year-old pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter. tichelman gave 5 1-year-old forrest hayes a fatal dose of heroin last november on his yacht in santa cruz. nfl team owners gathered today for their meeting in san francisco. >> abc 7 news was at the ritz carlton on knob hill as fans of

the raiders gathered outside to urge the nfl to keep the silver and black in oakland. team owner mark davis talked with the media about the efforts to get the raiders a new stadium. abc 7 news reporter caroline tyler is live in san francisco with more. carolyn? >> reporter: larry, you're right. the nfl spring meeting continues here tomorrow, but this was the day for raiders fans the chance to get a message to team owner mark davis. a small band of raiders fans including die hard dr. death gathered outside the nfl owners meeting. they want to keep the silver and black from leaving oakland. >> the last three years that we've been selling out your stadium, put a plan together. >> reporter: they hope to attract the attention of team owner mark davis and they did. >> mark, just know that we support you. >> know that. believe me i know that. we're trying. >> the raiders are deciding whether to move from the aging old coliseum and build a nearly

$1.7 billion stadium they would share with the san diego charge chargers in the city of carson in los angeles. in fact, a complicated land deal between the teams and carson officials was finalized today. former 49ers president carmen policy is the point person on those negotiations. >> i know the way it works in the room. i know what they're looking for. i know what has to be done. >> reporter: but owner davis says there's still a glimmer of hope for oakland. >> i want to keep the raiders in oakland if i can, i really do but we have to be able to compete. >> reporter: the city of oakland and alameda county are working together for the first time and that could make the difference. carolyn tyler, abc 7 news. there are several hundred million dollar gap between what the raiders want, what they would really desire and what the city and county can come up with at this point. it's a large gap that has to be bridged somehow. at the owners meeting we learned

the new england patriots would not fight the nfl on deflategate. kraft said he considered his options and the best course of action would be to move on. >> i really feel at this point in time that taking this off the agenda this is the best thing for the new england patriots, our fans and the nfl. >> last week kraft blasted league officials when they fined the patriots a million dollars and stripped them of two draft choices for deflategate. it does not affect quarterback tom brady's suspension next season and that's already being appealed by the players union. turning now to our weather and it seems like we're seeing more blue skies than yesterday. spencer christian joins us now with the accuweather update. >> larry and ama, it was cloudy for much of the day just as it was yesterday and around mid-afternoon we start to see more blue skies showing up and here's live doppler 7 hd showing

lots of blue skies at this hour and we'll see the clouds thickening again very shortly. this morning, this was the picture we had and spotty drizzle in the lower elevation and measurable rain in the hills and 500 in la honda and rocky ridge and that's just in the higher elevations and we're looking at blue sky over from the exploratorium camera. it's 61 in oakland and 63 san carlos and 58 at half moon bay. lots of blue over the golden gate right now and yay we have temperature readings above 70 degrees at fairfield and concord. 69 in livermore and santa rosa and 66 in napa and novato and another look at lots of blue and a few puffy clouds as we give you the first forecast. we'll have increasing clouds this evening and a chance of spotty drizzle that will continue into the early morning hours and tomorrow afternoon, much like today mostly cloudy at the start of the day, partly cloudy and cool with little

breaks of sun. we won't get sustained sunnier conditions until the weekend and i'll have that forecast for you later. larry and ama? >> see you in a few minutes. >> governor brown signed a new climate change agreement from across the world. >> it calls for reducing steps for rising temperatures and greenhouse gas levels. >> it takes somewhat of a backseat, but the science tells us that this challenge is front and center. >> and the agreement includes oregon washington, vermont as well as several provinces in canada mexico, brazil germany and spain and governor brown plans to attend a world summit in pair where is they hope to reach a new treaty. >> in the south bay, huge flames created a massive environmental mess in san jose. >> they destroyed reynolds circle that is not too far from mineta san jose international

airport. the flames were only part of the problem there as abc 7 news reporter matt keller says chemicals created a hazmat situation. >> a four-alarm fire ripped through a commercial building in san jose. sky 7 hd shows you the top of harolds finishing. this picture from the san jose fire department shows you how big the flames got after the fire was reported around 12:30 this morning and it took them about an hour and 15 minutes to get it under control but the flames weren't the biggest danger facing firefighters. >> they would use things like sulfuric oxide and other things like that to do etching and that type of cleaning of metal and so those were the chemicals that we think were initially involved but then this volume of fire made kind of a chemical soup. >> that chemical soup pulled around the commercial buildings createing a has mad situation and that combined with the toxic smoke forced half of the

firefighters on the scene, around 50, to be decontaminated. it appears no firefighters were injured and amazingly, the fire was kept to the one commercial building. >> glad that our business didn't get caught up in it. sorry for theirs but glad too many people around here didn't get affected. >> the business owners are responsible for the cleanup of the contaminated runoff. while insurance agents and private clean up companies got involved. several businesses in the area were blocked off. dozens of workers were left waiting. >> we have 11 orders today and we have to call the clients and cancel it. we'll see what the client's going to say. it's upsetting. a ladder truck was contaminated by the toxic water will be out of service until it can be cleaned up. as for the cause of the fire investigators are waiting for it to be safe to go inside before they determine what started it. in san jose matt keller abc 7 news. still ahead on abc 7 news at 4:00 starbucks has a new brew for customers, but how the java

harden. the rockets got the better of the rockets sweeping the regular season series and the last time these two teams met it was trevor iriza who was trying to get underneath steph curry's pin and a little bump and nearly causing a fight. anything can happen in the playoffs. >> this is a totally different situation and they proved that anything is possible if you really want it and execute better than another team. so there will be no lackadaisical effort and no casualness about our effort going through this series because we want something special to happen for us and we can hopefully control that by how we play. >> each round gets tougher and it's our awareness and our focus and our level and our intensity has to pick it up another notch, and i think that we'll be ready for it. >> reporter: i'll tell you what this is going to be a great

a little breezy and a little bit of everything. >> this is the third day of this particular pattern and it's like the movie groundhog day and each day we preview the previous day's weather. live doppler 7 hd and we have mainly sunny skies right now and off to a very cloudy start and a drizzly start, as well and you see the clouds gathering offshore and here's the view from the partly cloudy sky and these are the forecast features mostly cloudy and days and nights through friday. drizzle is possible tonight much as we had last night and early this morning and there's a slight chance of showers on thursday and we don't expect this to be a significant rain system. here's our water vapor satellite image showing an active storm track and the cool, unsettled weather pattern and that's what will bring the clearer conditions and spotty drizzle is possible late tonight and overnight into the early morning hours, much like the last

overnight period for us and later in the day tomorrow we'll see a little bit of clearing, not much though, much like today and spotty drizzle near the coast and in the sierra with the forecast animation there and 5:00 tomorrow morning and during the day we'll see a mix of precipitation and rainfall in the lower elevation and the chance of light snow above 8,000 feet and one or two inches back to the bay area tonight with thickening clouds and spotty drizzle and low temperatures will be in the low to mid-50s around the bay shoreline and a few upper 40s in the north bay valleys and tomorrow once the morning clouds gather a bit and giving way to breaks of sun in the afternoon and we'll have mid and upper 50s at the coast to low to mid 50s on the bay and the mild and inland locations and here ate chance of isolated showers tomorrow afternoon and that will be the higher terrain and on to the accuweather seven-day forecast and we will start to get sunnier skies and

news. >> another dead whale is making headlines where you live at 4:30. this gray whale washed up today in half moon bay. sky 7 hd was live over kelly beach a little while ago. officials are in the process of figuring out how it may have died. this comes the same day crews in pacifica are burying two dead whales that washed up in the past five weeks. abc 7 news reporter wayne freedman tweeted this photo of a massive whale being dropped into the sand. a high-priced prostitute accused of killing a google executive with an overdose of heroin agreed to a plea deal. at 5k clo chris nguyen will have more on why she may only have to serve a fraction of her six-year sentence. and a story you will see only on abc 7 sfpd recruits on the way to bay to breakers this weekend got a chance to put their new skills to use. abc 7 news reporter vic lee has more on how they stopped a smash and grab in progress and made

two arrests. >> good afternoon, captain yee! >> reporter: the 244th recruit class, 38 men and women now in their 20th week at the academy. on sunday, they put their training to work. it was early in the morning the annual bay to breakers. they were on a chartered bus en route to help with traffic control. the bus stopped at a red light on the 800 block of market. they were right next to the diesel clothing store. they peered out the bus and this is what they saw. >> a gentleman in the store was using a hammer to break some display cases. >> and i was, like wow! that can't be real right now. >> i realized he was putting the merchandise into the bag. >> there were five regular officers, their teachers on the bus with the recruits. >> a couple of us shouted out burglary. >> and they jumped out of the bus and apprehended the suspect. >> today a board still covers the window the burglars broke at

diesel. as for the recruits they were beaming with pride. >> the hands-on live activity was really good. >> it made me happy that we could show them what we're made of. >> these two were arrested, really bad luck for them burglarizing a store in front of a busload of cops. vic lee, abc 7 news. we're learning more this afternoon about what caused a weekend shooting involving rival motorcycle gangs in texas in which nine people were killed. police say the shootout began with a parking dispute with a biker running over a gang member's foot. this happened after an uninvited group attended a meeting of biker gangs on friday. waco police remain on high alert. >> there have been incredible, reliable threats toward law enforcement in and around our area. i will tell you those have toned down a bit over the past 24 hours. police arrested 200 people. authorities say the investigation is being hampered by uncooperative witnesses.

an investigation is now under way into today's derailment of a freight train in riverside county. six loaded cars of the union pacific train went off the tracks in the city of jurupa 47 miles east of los angeles. no one was hurt and no hazardous materials were involved. the 53 car train was headed to the facility and a vital link in the delivery of new vehicles to dealerships in southern california. the it did cause delays through the area. they're urging to put a second engineer in locomotives in philadelphia. the smart transportation say two engineers would serve as a check and balance on each other. engineer brandon bostian was alone when it derailed a week ago today killing eight people and injuring about 200. investigators are looking into why the train was going more than double the 50-mile-per-hour

limit around a sharp curve. it's been nearly 30 days since hillary clinton had the race and abc news reporter karen travers with the story. >> tell me something i don't know. >> reporter: her q and a with the press came the same day a federal judge enacted a rolling release of the 55,000 pages of emails and the former secretary turned over to the state department. she needed until january to get them out in one fell swoop. >> we seriously will comply with the order. >> clinton said she wanted the state department to act sooner rather than later. >> i want those emails out. nobody has a bigger interest in getting them released than i do. anything that they might do to expedite that process i heartily support. clinton addressed the recent news that she and her husband earned more than $25 million in the past year and a half delivering more than 100 paid speeches.

>> obviously, bill and i have been blessed and we're very grateful for the opportunities that we had but we've never forgotten where we came from. >> clinton spoke after an event focused on small business where she asked them questions and mostly listened. all part of her strategy right now. clinton's campaign is calculating that more bad things are happening, so she tries to avoid whenever possible. >> but it's not going unnoticed and not just by the media. >> other candidate are starting to make an issue out of it and that could push the clinton campaign to change strategy. karen travers, abc news, washington. nine men are in custody on a jewelry heist that embarrassed scotland yard. they're accused of stealing cash and jewels used by the lonneddon garden district. investigators haven't released the exact amount of the theft but it's believed to be in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

severe flooding is decimating parts of denver this afternoon. flood warnings remain in effect statewide. the colorado state patrol says the rain has caused numerous accidents in the denver area. the same system can dump up to ten inches of snow in the mountains. coming up at 5:30, world news reporter clayton slidell is in the storm zone as the floodwaters suddenly swept in. >> not a whole lot going on here, just clouds. >> i wish we had rain and snow to talk about. >> all we had was drizzle and just overnight drizzle and that's the closest thing we had to rain and we may get showers later in the week. we have mainly sunny skies right now, but skies are expected to thicken during the late night and overnight hours and here is

a live view in downtown san francisco and looking eastward along the bay bridge and we'll take a look at the latest air quality report. grass pollen medium or moderate and the wheat pollen is low and o zone levels are low. that's a pretty good air quality report. across the 48 contiguous states, tomorrow we'll have mainly quiet weather and we'll have thunderstorms in parts of the southern plains and down into parts of texas and down through the mississippi valley from the chicago area all of the way down to new orleans and the east coast will be mainly dry but it will be showery in the west and that includes the state of california where we will have unsettled weather once again and showers in the northernmost part of the state and snow in the higher elevations and southern california showers will fall as well. here in the bay area after a cloudy start to the day, much like today we'll have partly sunny skies in the afternoon and highs will range from 50s at the coast to low and mid-60s around the bay and 70s inland. san jose as our indicator of

a lethal dose of heroin. >> good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm cheryl jen igs. >> alix tichelman cut a deal and was sentenced to six years in jail and she pleaded guilty to killing forrest hayes which is now being described as an accidental heroin overdose. chris nguyen joins us from the courthouse in santa cruz with more. >> cheryl and dan the prosecutor called this a sad and tragic case and one that has gained national attention and although he disagrees with the actual sentence handed down by the judge he's hopeful that all parties involved can finally move on with their lives. >> at the courthouse in santa cruz alix tichelman walked in emotionless as she learned her fate. the 27-year-old former prostitute pled guilty to felony involuntary manslaughter as well as other charges in the heroin overdose death of 51-year-old google executive and father of five forrest hayes. >> this is a manslaughter case. there was no intent to kill and there was no conscious disregard

for human life. >> the incident happened on november 22, 2013 aboard hayes' yacht which was docked in the santa cruz harbor. prosecutors have maintained that tichelman first injected herself with heroin and then did the same with hayes who fell asleep and never woke up. >> she initially tried to help him out crying while holding him and trying to shake him and trying to wake. >> reporter: but she never called 911 opting instead to flee the scene. >> while she regrets what happened that night she hopes that pleading guilty now will spare additional heart ache for everyone involved. >> it brings closure to our client, her family and to the forrest hayes family. >> reporter: today the judge sentenced tichelman to six years' incarceration and with good behavior and for time already served she'll likely spend three years behind bars in jail. >> this where the judge and i will respectf
