well, good thursday morning. we begin with major new developments in the murder of a wealthy washington family and their housekeeper. >> this tragedy unfolding last week with a fire at their mansion. crews found the bodies of the four victims inside that house. >> now police have named a suspect. overnight they released these pictures of him, 34-year-old daron dylon wint. his dna reportedly found on a pizza crust inside the burnt home. >> also overnight police were at the scene of the wint family home in maryland not far from where they found a burned sports car that belonged to the family. detectives have not released a motive for the murders but they believe money could have been a key factor. we have more details on this bizarre still unfolding story coming your way on "good morning america." our other major story this morning, that oil spill along the california coast. >> california's governor declaring a state of emergency

in the area freeing up more resources to contain and clean up the oil. prosecutors are starting to look into the spill in the event of a possible criminal prosecution. abc's bazi kanani has details. >> reporter: toxic sludge coating the santa barbara coast, the massive cleanup effort growing this morning. more workers rushing in to help before the damage along this nine-mile stretch of shoreline spreads. >> although the response is going as well as planned, it's -- the fact is the spilled oil is difficult to contain and collect once it's on the water. >> reporter: already too late for some wildlife. this mother whale and her baby swimming dangerously close to the oil slick. officials say it started with a burst pipeline tuesday and an unknown amount of oil spilling down this culvert and on to the beach, an estimated 21,000 gallons flowing into the ocean. as the epa investigates the pipeline owner plains a

american promises to take full responsibility. >> we regret this incident and apologize to the residents and visitors in the area for the inconvenience it caused especially on this memorial day weekend. we promise to make it right. >> reporter: the pungent gooey mess forcing everyone to evacuate these popular beaches just ahead of memorial day weekend. campers now heading home disappointed and concerned. >> it's terrible. we're here for our anniversary and we come this week every year. and it's impossible to get in and we got in and now we're being told to leave. >> i feel more sorry for what's going on in the ocean than for people that have to pack up and leave. >> reporter: bazi kanani, abc news, washington. and there are major developments in california's larger crisis, the drought. a new crackdown on some of the state's biggest water users. farmers use 80% of the state's usable water but are largely exempt from the state's water conservation orders. now, farmers with the oldest water rights in the san joaquin river watershed will no longer

be allowed to draw water from the river. california is into the fourth year of its worst drought in recorded history. also new overnight, a state department employee is accused of using compromise photos to blackmail female college students. federal investigators say michael ford used computers at the u.s. embassy in london to hack into women's accounts and steal the photos. they believe ford targeted women all across the country. he was arrested in atlanta where he'll be in court today. also in court today, the florida postal worker who landed a gyrocopter on the capitol lawn. a grand jury had indicated douglas hughes -- indicted, excuse me douglas hughes, on six charges that could land him in to jail for ten years and he could also face fines and be forced to give up the gyrocopter. he said the flight was to draw attention to the role big money plays in politics. lights were burning a little late last night on capitol hill. kentucky senator and republican presidential candidate rand paul spoke on the senate floor for about ten hours, wrapped up just before midnight. he was doing this to protest

renewal of the patriot act, which he says is unconstitutional. that act set to expire june 1st. another major victory for isis capturing a syrian town that's home to one of the oldest and most historic sites. isis posted this video online showing smoke billowing over the ancient city of palmeiro. we've just learned overnight that isis forces are in full control of the treasured ruins. that's dating back to roman times. militants have destroyed similar ruins in the past. we're also learning some surprising details about osama bin laden from the pakistani hideout where he spent his last days. among those revelations, his bizarre application to join al qaeda, his vast book collection, as well as his continued obsession with bringing down america. here's abc's martha raddatz. >> reporter: the secret files were captured by navy s.e.a.l. team 6 in that deadly 2011 raid. included, a stunningly simple job application for those seeking to join al qaeda asking about hobbies, special skills

and then this, do you wish to execute a suicide operation? and who should we contact in case you became a martyr? the files show a man obsessed with attacking america and his own security. bin laden warning his wife to leave everything behind before joining him because some chips have been lately developed for eavesdropping. so small, he wrote, it is possible to implant a chip in some of the belongings. martha raddatz, abc news, washington. well, some eye-opening evidence surfacing now in that deadly biker rampage in waco. it left nine people dead, 18 wounded, 177 arrested and now authorities say they found more than 3,000 weapons ranging from pocket knives to ak-47s hidden in kitchen stoves, food stocks and seat cushions. police say this is all the evidence you need to show that there was criminal intent and something going on there.

and elsewhere across texas and oklahoma, severe weather has been triggering more flash floods with cleanup underway with those 27 tornadoes that hit tuesday. particularly hard hit, the town of runaway bay where dozens of homes were severely damage. meantime, much of oklahoma got hit with a second round of storms yesterday with torrential downpours triggering more floods. and more rain is on the way. the latest radar picture shows storms moving across most of texas and southern oklahoma and across the deep south with another strong system moving up into the tennessee and ohio valleys. well, still ahead, trying to clear up the confusion following the record-breaking air bag recall. also, a security scare at the airport. a man runs from tsa officers and you're seeing that dramatic moment there when they use a stun gun to take him down. plus, turning the tables. cameras catch a brazen attack on a jewelry dealer who wasn't going down without a fight.

all right, surveillance video rolling here. what you're seeing, a masked man ambushing a jewelry dealer outside a georgia hotel, grabbing his gems unleashing plenty of pepper spray on him but then would you believe he's fighting back. he's there. he's in a lighter colored shirt if you could make out here. he managed to actually unmask and unshirt one of the men. police however say they don't recommend you do this. just let it go. new overnight high school students taken to the hospital after their whale watching boat was hit by rogue waves. some teens fainted. others suffered ankle injuries on the boat in rough seas off cape cod. the boat was met by ambulances when it returned to plymouth. students from new york were

treated and released from the hospital. 3500 people stranded on board a cruise ship are heading back home this morning. the "norwegian dawn" ran aground on a reef as you can see on this time-lapsed video and was stuck for six hours. the cruise line said a temporarily malfunction of the steering forced it off course. the ship due back to arrive back in boston sometime tomorrow. with one in seven american vehicles at risk for air bags exploding with deadly force, drivers have set a record flooding the government's recall website. but none of the 17 million newly recalled cars are listed yet. that's because the government is waiting for the carmakers to provide the data. takata says new air bags will be eventually be available. officials are urge inging car owners to regular check the website, safercar.gov website for updates. if you haven't had breakfast yet, i have a menu option for you. an entire backyard barbecue crammed on to one bun.

tasered. you see it happening here. he was on the ground. they wanted had him to stay there. see all the passengers in that area as well. the guy had refused to stop at a security checkpoint. he had a can ticket for a flight. that wasn't scheduled to leave for several more hours. the man was taken into custody now facing trespassing and other charges. at charlotte's airport, had a guy there that was hanging out literally he was hanging out. he was naked for about an hour yesterday. how do you do this for an hour? i don't know. he took off his clothes in a fit of anger about a flight to jamaica being overbooked. we've all about there, reena. now, police say he suffered what they're calling a, quote, medical issue, not expected to face they charges. hanging out. interesting choice of words. a manhunt under way in brooklyn california for the driver of a stolen car who led police on a 30-mile high-speed chase going the wrong way on two different freeways. the honda accord crashed and he took off on foot. he called 911 at one point demanding they stop chasing him

despite an army of officers on the ground and chopper in the air, he is still at large. in loveland colorado six good samaritans jumped into an icy lake and pulled an elderly man from the car. he suddenly hit the sidewalk and went straight into the 39-degree water. those six do-goo gooders all treated for hypothermia. he suffered some kind of medical emergency and will not be cited. just in time for the long holiday weekend, shark warnings out on both coasts. police in huntington beach, california, say more than a dozen juvenile great whites have been spotted swimming near the shore. close to popular swimming and surfing spots and say these shark sightings are not typical. we'll go further into charlotte, south carolina is where we're going. police responded to calls of a frightening creature on land hiding under a car. parked near a grocery store. a bit of a struggle but officers marriaged to overpower a three-foot alligator and

live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. good morning on thursday at 4:28 thanks for starting your day with us. i am kristen sze. >> i am eric thomas. along with leyla gulen. and mike nicco. >> the windshield wipers were working. we had a good shower at my house. remember the difference between drizzle and rain is not the intensity but the size of the drops. we have had heavy drizzle at times and a shower or two. right now, live doppler hd is not showing much in the way of rain but there is still drizzle. be careful. the roads are wet. in many areas. we will keep the drizzle to scatter light showers in the forecast all day and we will see less sunshine than yesterday and temperatures are cooler with most of us in the 50s and 60. that is the day planner.

accident. 19-year-old robert pelesauma and 18 year old faavesi koka from san francisco, all arrested year investigator say they were chased after an arm robbery last month when they hit and killed a woman. the 42-year-old bridget klecker was struck in the crosswalk on april 10. >> this brings closure and i am glad they caught them so they don't kill anyone else. >> san francisco police say the dangerous fellows were arrested with the help from police in hayward, santa rosa and the f.b.i. >> new details in tuesday's oil spill on the santa barbara county coast. "los angeles times" reports that the pipeline operator has racked up 175 safety and maintenance infractions since 2006. official now say more than 105 the gallons leaked best line was discovered and shut down. the governor brown has declared a state of emergency. our reporter will have more on the battle to contain the spill at the top of the hour.
