three people are recovering from a crash. >> reporter: the dump truck is gone here on san jose avenue. you can see some of the damage left behind. the pole in the middle of the street and the mini van parked early this morning. thankfully no one was seriously injured. the driver is facing serious charges. >> reporter: this is the end result of a strange and extremely dangerous police chase. it started around 12:15 this morning. police officer thought it was unusual a dump truck was in a neighborhood at that time. ran its plates and found out . it aimed the several tons of metal at the patrol car. >> he felt his life was in danger and the vehicle was

heading toward the patrol vehicle and putting his life in jeopardy. >> reporter: police say the officer reversed and got the patrol car out of the way. the dump truck took off speeding leading the officer on a chase through three cities. >> they were just getting home in their mini van when the dump truck slammed into them. the driverer tried to run but was arrested. the three in the mini van was taken to the hospital. >> we are hoping they recover quickly. he could face several charges including assault with a deadly weapon. thank you. in san jose four people were taken into custody by police this morning in connection with two strong armed robberies. police say the attackers punched a woman near a bus stop about

10:00 last night. 15 minutes later the same group attacked a man and took his wallet. police arrested the suspects about 4:30 this morning after doing a yard to yard search. a new safety concern for the bay bridge. it's unclear what caused it to break. the city of san jose has gotten a whole lot bigger. new figures have been released showing san jose's population has surpassed one million. the city has three cities with a million or more people. san jose joins the ranks with san diego and los angeles. new york city remains the most popular city with more than 8.4

take the sunscreen. you may need it but you may also need a poncho if one of those scattered showers come over. temperature hanging around 60 degrees with a breeze about 15 miles an hour. tonight mild one again. low to mid-50s. let me show you what's going on in the upper parts of the atmosphere. we had the small chunk of energy roll through. this will slide to our south but because it's still here and it is warmer and more humid we'll keep chance of a scattered shower. you can see right there. it changes to drizzle. heavy add times through tomorrow morning. as we head into the afternoon hours especially tomorrow evening you can put the umbrella umbrellas away and not worry about getting wet. temperatures about the same tomorrow. that will translate all the way through the rest of the hollywood day weekend with 60s at the coast. low to mid-70s for the rest of us. it's getting kind of warm humid out here. if you get a shower make sure you have the umbrella handy.
