checking for damage in napa county. after another quake rattles people, some buildings are still being repaired from a big 6.0 quake just nine months ago. that was blamed for one death and caused major damage. >> the latest quake to rock napa county has a lot of people on edge. this one did not hurt anybody or cause damage. alyssa harrington joins us live from napa. >> reporter: this earthquake was smaller but was a reminder of

the large one from last summer leaving buildings like these rumbling and in need of repair. residents described an abrupt shaking that lasted about ten seconds. >> all of a sudden there was, like, a big bang and then the blinds went back and forth. >> reporter: it was centered just outside a town north of napa known for its world class culinary scene. like the three-star honored restaurant the french laundry. charlene was hosting a dinner party when the dishes started to shake. >> all of a sudden i had one of my french doors open. it sounded like a large truck was coming down the street just bouncing along. and then all of a sudden the table shook there was a loud crack, and it was over. >> reporter: the says the tremor didn't even scare her dog, but it did rattle many others. triggers memories of the napa quake that injured 300 people and buildings last year. today workers continue to make

repairs in napa's downtown. there are no reports of any new damage but people tell me the tremor served as a crucial reminder of the repair. >> the tv is secured to the stand. it's not going to fall off this time. >> we bolted or tv in. hanging things differently like glass mirrors and things. just slowly but surely. i think these are just reminders that things can happen. at larger scale at any time. >> reporter: wineries were hit hard last time, but this time there's no reports of any damage or closures. if you were planning to head this way over the memorial day weekend, there's no need to rearrange those plans. live in napa elissa harrington, abc 7 news. >> thank you. commuters are getting ready for this weekend's closure of the san mateo bridge. it begins in less than 11 hours. meantime if you were caught in the traffic jam from the last

closure, cal trans has a new tip for you. >> reporter: they still don't think it's going to be great. but they do think from studying patterns from last time, there are routes you could take that would be better. yes, you are reading the signs correctly. they're doing it again. the san mateo bridge will be shut down tonight starting at 10:00. drivers remember the troubles the last closure created. >> it was very busy and full. i think it's going to be just as bad this weekend. >> reporter: cal trans officials think people will be leaving the area for the holiday weekend. >> the traffic is going to be heavy. it may not be quite as bad as last time. >> reporter: if you plan your route right you should be fine. we're on it now. no problems. doesn't close until 10:00 tonight. monday it opens at 5:00 a.m. it's the people who stay here over the weekend that will struggle. >> we're still going over to

where my mother-in-law lives. so we're going to have to go earlier. and try to avoid the traffic. >> reporter: he expects it will take an extra hour to get the kids to grandmother's house. and then there are the brides who had to factor this into their wedding. >> in the wedding they're, like please make sure to avoid it. >> reporter: the cal trans have a tip from you they learned from the last closure. think about going further north or south for your detour. >> the bay bridge was heavily used. but the southern route going through highway 237 through san jose, that was free flow. so there's more capacity down there. >> reporter: and up north the richmond san rafael bridge is a good alternative. they're putting in even stronger substance up there. so hopefully we won't see this again for another 48 years at

our high temperatures. we've been 4 to 8 degrees cooler in our afternoon hours. you can see the clouds break up. 60s and more 70s starting to develop inland. sunday is going to be our warmest day out. then the sea breeze comes back and it's going to be cooler monday. but it looks like it will be dry all holiday weekend. >> mike thanks so much. happening today a man accused of trying to kidnap a south bay girl is set to make his first appearance. he is charged with kidnapping and child endangerment. surveillance video shows a silver honda accord driving along where a young girl was walking her dog. velasco gave the girl a bear hug on saturday morning. the girl screamed and ran away. also today the highway patrol will release results of the 13-month investigation into a tour bus crash near chico that killed two people. april 10th of last year a fedex

truck crossed a median and hit a tour bus head on. five high school students and five adults were killed including the drivers of the truck and bus. 37 others were injured. the ex-convict accused of killing a wealthy d.c. businessman and family and housekeeper will appear in court this afternoon. authorities arrested 34-year-old daron wint last night. wint was said to have beat and stabbed three victims before setting the house on fire. wint was a former welder who worked for one of the victim's companies. authorities are investigating his motive. former secretary of state hillary clinton received now classified information on her private e-mail about the attack in benghazi. the state department has released 896 of clinton's e-mails pertaining to the benghazi attack. the fbi asked for information from a specific e-mail to be classified for national security

that weather is hampering cleanup efforts at an oil spill in santa barbara county. the oil pipeline broke tuesday spilling thousands of gallons of crude. wildlife have been found coated in oil. it could take weeks or months to find out what caused that disaster. and it could take as long as five years to fix all the cars equipped with defective air bags by the company takata. 34 million vehicles in the u.s. need to have the potentially deadly air bags replaces after it was determined air bag inflaters could spray metal shards. at least six deaths have been tied to the defect. part of the problem is it will take a long time to produce new air bags and find all the vehicles impacted. google has fixed an embarrassing problem. apparently if you searched for racist key words on google maps

welcome back. a small hiccup for the warriors this morning as they were getting red i do head to texas and game three in the western conference finals. abc 7 news was there as the team boarded their flight to houston. but moments later there were mechanical problems and everyone had to get off the plane. the team now leaves at 1:00 today. still plenty of time to gear up for tomorrow's game. the warriors go into game three up two games in the best of seven series. the action now shifts to houston saturday and monday. if needed game five will be home on wednesday. game six houston on friday. and seven on sunday here. you can catch all the information on abc7news.com. we hope and know the warriors will go all the way. you can catch all the exciting action beginning june 4th. in the meantime, you saw the skies kind of clearing up a

it's being a little more stubborn than yesterday. starting to show a bit of a clearing trend from north to south. and that extra sunshine is one of the reasons why we'll have a chance of a stray shower. they're out of town but they swept the dodgers. how about that? shut them out. it was amazing. and why not hit a home run? that's all you need to win the game. that's what bumgarner did yesterday afternoon. a little drizzle tonight and then quiet for the holiday weekend. let's look at the persistent trough of low pressure we talked about. notice how it's moving inland. high pressure will take over. that's why we'll see more sunshine this afternoon and a drying trend in the evening. low to mid-60s this afternoon for the peninsula. palo alto will be in the upper 50s along the coast. near 60 in downtown. mid upper 60s through midwest of the bay. then mid-60s across the east bay shore. and inland in the upper 60s to

low 70s. tonight you can see some of the drizzle along the coast the peninsula, and into the east bay hills. littling to going to develop up north. low to mid-50s tomorrow morning. you can see the clearing taking place. 7:00 during the evening hours. then it starts to fill in around midnight and drizzle there. more sunshine is going to develop tomorrow, but possibility of drizzle is going to remain along the coast. look up at tahoe. if you're heading that way showers and thunderstorms. today tomorrow. and there's an outside chance sunday and monday. temperatures will go from the low 50s to mid-50s up there. we're going to warm a couple of degrees tomorrow. it's our brightest and warmest day. then the sea breeze kicks in. cooling trend for monday and tuesday but will remain dry for the holiday weekend. uc berkeley is making a splash with its latest technology feat. a robot that performs simple tasks as well as people. video featured today shows a
