lqnn incorporate side based in southern california. it operates as lee's sandwiches, a popular fast food chain specializing in vietnamese sandwiches and their shops are in six states and 48 of them in california. 14 are in the bay area. so far there have been no reports of anyone getting sick. almost none of the customers we spoke with knew about the recall. >> you should have told me that before i came here. >> many regulars said they didn't care. >> i think that their food is awesome. so i think they're there just targeting them. >> i'm not going to lie. i'm still going to eat it. >> in 2013, 740 pounds of lee's brand sausages were recalled when a safety assessment by the usda said said they may have contained toxins that caused food poisoning. no one in that recall reported adverse reactions to the food. vic lee, abc 7 news.

>> ray mcdonald has been arrested again accused of domestic violence and this time he's facing additional charges of child endangerment. this is his booking photo in san jossy and there's been a development at the county jail and that's where david louie joins us now. >> we can confirm that ray mcdonald just bailed out of the county jail in san jose. why? abc 7 news there was when he tried to hide after he left the jail and went inside to call a taxi in the lobby of the san jose police headquarters. we see him trying to dash out past reporters and jump into a waiting taxi cab. we wondered why he was arrested for child endangerment and police say the woman he's accused of assaulting today was holding an infant possibly his own. >> it was 3:48 this morning at this gated apartment complex in santa clara where ray mcdonald

lives and a call to 911 said someone was being attacked by mcdonald. he was violent and had broken a door down. >> mcdonald was gone when santa clara police arrived. about three hours later they located him at the home of his teammate justin smith. >> i can't go specifically into the degree of the assault other than it was domestic violence related assault. what i can say while the victim was assaulted she was holding a young child an infant. >> police are not saying if the victim is mcdonald's girlfriend and the mother of the child. he signed with the chicago bears on a one-year $1 million deal however the bears released him because of today's arrest saying, quote, we believe in second chances, but he was not able to meet the standard. mcdonald was held all morning at

santa clara police. >> if they didn't get the statement at scene of the arrest, they will. they will bring the person here to the police department for follow-up investigation. he was transported early this afternoon in his black van to the santa clara county jail. bail has been set at $15,000. sat the santa clara county jail, david louie abc 7 news. a man who died while scuba diving off the northern sonoma coast was identified as a chp officer. jeffrey allen ray was diving in girstal cove yesterday when one of his friends found him unresponsive. emergency responders could not revive him. he worked with the chp for 27 years and he was also a marine corps veteran. it about longed to a woman who vanished more than 30 years ago. elizabeth martinson disappeared in 1982. she was staying with a host

family and working with a nanny. her remains were createe cremated and will be sent back to her family. her remains were found in the canyon area and only seven bones were found at the site. she was last seen in a store landing. some scary moments for a child while walking near the golden gate bridge. the child was walking on the pier and slipped and fell over the edge ending up near shallow water. it happened on marine drive near the torpedo whatever. firefighters took the person to the hospital and does not have serious injuries. police are searching tonight for the man accused of murdering one person and injuring another. it turned out the man was not in the house in dante avenue near 99th avenue and the wounded victim is expected to survive and they did find a large

me. >> it's history. his letters were living history and it's hard to believe it was 50 years ago. >> kenneth hearst died in an enemy ambush may 13, 1967 killed along with 87 other men in his squad and only 12 survived. >> memorial day obviously honors those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for this country but it also reminds us of the contributions of all veterans and for one san francisco organization honoring those men and women makes this an extraordinary day. carolyn tyler has the story. >> the chefs arrived early to prepare a sort of indoor picnic on this memorial day one out of five enjoying a free meal is a victory. >> i really, today 50 volunteers are serving those who served our nation and now need our support.

husband's. >> reporter: an estimated 4,000 meals were served at st. anthony p/e an in san francisco, carolyn tyler, abc 7 news. in oakland, observers joined a commemoration ceremony in mountain view ceremony and the burial sites of veterans. this is the 94th memorial day commemoration. and abc 7 news was at san jose's oak hill memorial park for the city's 97th annual memorial day ceremony. the boy scouts placed 3600 american flags at the headstones of veterans and they are six burial spots that included a japanese-american interfaith service, as well. >> and we have much more ahead. cars lifted and turned on their side as if they were toys. this has happened again. a bounce house lifrted into the sky. the rescue and recovery going on tonight. >> also. how do you know if your car's

covering santa claire ahsan francisco, east bay and all the bay area. this is abc 7 news. rescue crews found a 68-year-old woman who spent two weeks in a southern california desert. she survived the ordeal but sadly her husband did not. they'd gotten lost after leaving a casino. abc 7 news reporter eileen freres has the story. >> the 68-year-old recovering from severe dehydration. her 79-year-old husband cecil

knutson known as paul did not survive. they were in warner springs two weeks after they were last seen leaving valley view casino 25 miles away. >> i'm glad to hear something. it's better than not knowing anything, but of course it's tragic for paul and we're concerned for diana. >> reporter: the two were on their way to their son's home in la quinta for mother's day dinner. >> they were looking for a short cut to get to their destination and the vehicle became trapped on this remote road. >> diana told them they drank rain water and ate food they had in their car. despite numerous searchers they were found by off-roaders sunday afternoon and cecil had already died. a private investigator is speaking for the family. this is a very difficult time for them and they're trying to gather themselves together and be available for diana and

they're grieving the loss of cecil. >> reporter: the couple married 25 years at their orange county home flowers sit on the front steps dropped off over a week ago. >> the whole park really feels bad that this happened and it's something that i never thought i would experience anything like this. this is just tragic. >> reporter: the family is requesting privacy at this time. we are told diana remains at the hospital in critical condition. in fullerton eileen ferreira abc 7 news. we have a frightening scene to show you on a beach in fort lauderdale florida. watch carefully now. a water spout sends rainfall and sends an inflatable bounce house into the air and watch it keep rising into the sky. three kids were taken to the hospital and it is not clear if they were inside the bounce house or hit by it and this flew across the beach and into a nearby road. >> texas governor greg abbott

the damage is absolutely devastating. a month's worth of rain fell in a matter of hours washing away homes and cars and one person is dead and 12 missing. a total of 37 counties in the state have been declared disaster areas. two people have been killed in oklahoma, as well, where more than 17 inches of rain have fallen this month. a tornado is, blamed for the deaths of 13 people in northern mexico. that twister raced through the city early today destroying 800 homes and overturning big rigs and a bus and dozens of cars. the devastation was incredible and hundreds were injured and check out the cars just thrown on to their sides of tiny homes and they had their roofs ripped off by the twister and it is right across the border from del rio, texas. a small earthquake struck near the site of last week's 4.1 quake and no reports of any

damage from today's 2.5 magnitude quake. the only damage from friday's quake was the oakville crossroad bridge. engineers closed that bridge after determining shaking may have caused additional deep cracks in the bridge's foundation. the bridge had been scheduled for replacement this summer and they'll just have to get that job done now. >> we've heard about all of these auto recalls lately and how do you keep up with all of them? how do you know if your car is part of that recall? >> michael finny is here with a good tip on this. >> a lot of people are out in their cars this weekend driving around for memorial day and a lot of them could be driving in cars that are under a recall, but how would they know? you can go to the government's website right here and look up your car and that's pretty easy. even easier is getting the free carmax app where the company will tell you that there say recall that you haven't yet gone in with. >> you've got to know as soon as

you type in your license plate and email address if there are any outstanding recalls in your car right now and when a new recall is issued you'll get a push notification to your mobile device or email saying there is a brand new recall that you need to take action on. >> california leads the nation with the amount of recalled cars on the road. an estimated 5 million. half a million of those were purchased with an unfixed recall just during the last year alone. stores are packed with memorial day sales. should you buy. >> if you're in the market for certain items you should go out to dinner instead. if you need a new grill you should go until later in the summer and grilling season and maybe all of the way into september and that's if you want the best deal. the arrival of summer weather leads the higher prices than swimcare. swimming pool items cost more than in the summer come late

doppler hd showing you that we have clouds and pushing locally out over the bay and i'm in one of those local areas right now and it is mainly sunny inland and stormy well inland up to the north and along interstate 5 and thunderstorms and lightning strikes and also some -- a cluster of thunderstorms near susanville and the ones near lake tahoe are pushing eastward into nevada. >> back to the bay area is calm and it's dreary and drizzly and we have current temperature readings in 60 in hayward and no drizzle in the inland areas where it's much milder and sunny. >> winds have been gustier this afternoon and we have lighter gusts now and significant and 22 at san carlos and 18 at novato. on we go to a live view and looking at loy clouds over the bay. and inland this week and only minimal warming at the coast. water vapor satellite image

shows the trough swinging from the northwest and reinforcing a cool, onshore flow for the bay area and this ridge of high pressure will build in behind the trough and that's what will bring us our warming trend this week and we'll use san jose as an indicator of how the warming will play out. a steady climb of temperatures in the 70s to 81 by saturday at san jossy ande and we'll see the temperature range over much of the bay area. cloudy, low temperatures in the low to mid-50s and tomorrow look for sunny skies in the south bay with highs in the low to mid 7 s and up to 70 in the peninsula and 60 degrees downtown and san francisco tomorrow and upper 60s to 70s in the north bay. look for breezy conditions and mainly sunny tomorrow and highs in the mid to upper 60s and inland east bay we'll see highs in the low to mid 70s. just a hint of what's to come and here it is, the accuweather seven-day forecast shows continued warming into the week and actually into the weekend with highs in the mid 80s inland

if you're headed up to tahoe this summer you won't be able to get around via water taxi. officials did not approve funding for the private water taxi service on tahoe's north shore. the shuttle over 3,000 riders last summer had been expected to carry more than 22,000 that fell short. the popular oakland-based blue bottle coffee made its debut in tokyo, japan and people are waiting hours just to try a cup

many have personalized the crosses with names and pictures. >> when someone comes here to the lafayette even though he's not from here and i'm from here and i'm from this community and the loss is personal. >> a memorial day vigil will be held at the memorial today and that event starts at 7:00 p.m. >> a few things you may not know about memorial day and it was originally called memorial day. >> they decorated graves of the fallen comrades of family and friends. it was the last monday of may to ensure a last weekend. >> it was legally required to observe memorial ongress passed a law to pause at 3:00 p.m. local time to remember and honor the fallen. it is only a brief pause and it is something we should do. >> we should do that. that's going to do it for us. thank you for your service to all of our military men and women.
