officials say there's no risk. this vial is no longer here. that's because it's been sent to the cdc. the university was notified early tuesday for the -- from the centers for disease control about the investigation. stanford along with 17 other laboratories in nine states and an army lab in south korea received a vile that may have contained very small quantities of live anthrax spores from an army laboratory in utah. stanford officials say they did a safety review once they were notified and discovered the material was handled by two individuals under appropriate biosafety guidelines. it was last opened by the lab on july 29th 2014. the cdc told stanford officials the material is very unlikely to pose any risk. >> and it's been ten months since the university did any work with the material. so we're well beyond the point that anyone would show symptoms. and the material's been very secure all this time. and it is now being shipped back to the cdc for an analysis.

>> reporter: the defense department normally ships live anthrax at high levels of biosecurity and safety but in this case they were shipped at a lower level because the spores were thought to be dead. the army chief of staff says the problem may have been a failure in the technical process of killing the anthrax samples. u.s. military personnel may have actually used live anthrax in a training exercise with 22 personnel potentially exposed. so far no one has shown signs of sickness, but health and research officials have fanned out to all the labs to see how the potentially deadly material was handled and if personnel are at risk. the stanford laboratory is studying immune system responses for potential vaccines and threats. the university is offering medical consultations for any lab employee who has concerns. reporting live in stanford matt keller, abc 7 news. >> matt, thanks a lot. a water shortage emergency is now in effect in the east bay town of brentwood. and people who live there are being ordered to make deep cuts

in water usage or else. the reductions are driven by the drought. residential customers will have to cut their water consumption by 35%. customers who use the water for irrigation would have to cut back by 40%. those who fall short face fines of between $100 and $300. folks who cut back more than required will be eligible for rebates between $10 and $50. pure joy. that's how the warriors described last night's big playoff win. it's been 40 years since they've made it this far. >> now they're headed to the nba finals after they roared to a game five win. steph curry playing with a bruised elbow from a fall monday night. he would only hit three three-pointers out of 11 attempts. clay thompson went down with a painful looking injury. he was kneed in the head by a member of the other team. but the team stayed in the fight and won the game 104-90. the warriors thanked fans for their loud support.

husband. >> reporter: and she's going to immediately put her shirt to good use. >> i'm actually headed down to l.a., so i'm getting off the plane with my warriors gear on into laker town because i've had to endure too much laker crap. so yeah, we're excited. >> reporter: mary drove from pittsburgh to pleasant hill this morning to be the first one in the store. she grabbed two t-shirts and says she's waited a long time for this. >> i'm a long time golden state warrior fan in my family. it's in our blood. so we've all been warrior fans for very very long time. >> reporter: store employees say it's a fun change of pace to see blue and gold on championship t-shirts instead of the orange and black that have been dominating the shelves. >> obviously with the giants winning and starting to kind of feel like that championship city. and everybody wants to be a part of it. i'm sure they've gained a lot of fans along the way. >> reporter: fans say they loved watching last night's close game. and they're looking forward to playing lebron james and the cavaliers in the final. >> it's going to be a challenge

blatter did not personally apologize today but did promise to change the way the organization operates. >> cannot allow the operation of football and fifa to be dragged through the mud any longer. >> well he rejected demands from the european soccer association that he resign. he is expected to win a fifth term as president of fifa at an election tomorrow. pharmaceutical giant johnson l johnson's being investigated by the fbi over a controversial surgical tool that may be putting womens lives at risk. abc 7 news reporter alyssa harington has more on the device and what local medical centers are doing to protect their patients. >> eric, these tools are called power morse laters and they're meant to remove things like tumors from the uterus. but they're suspected of spreading cancer cells in some women. now some hospitals including here in the bay area are pulling the devices for safety reasons. dr. amy reed from boston has only gotten sicker since her hysterectomy last year. doctors cleared her for cancer

before the procedure. then after they found a rare form of cancer. she blames this device called a power morsulator and wants the tools banned. >> at no point in time did anyone ever say well you know because you had it morselated that worsens your prognosis, that something we discovered on our own. >> reporter: the fbi is investigating the surgical device. it's used on millions of women for uterine procedures. most often a hysterectomy. it breaks up fibroids. one in up to 350 cases where there's a hidden cancer, the blades spray the cancer cells causing them to spread. >> the fda has no idea how many women had cancer spread by being treated with this device. but the idea that anyone was harmed is very concerning. >> reporter: johnson & johnson is the largest manufacturer of the product. the company voluntarily pulled the device last year.

amazon wants to make your impulse buys even more impulsive. starting today the online retailer is offering free same-day delivery service to prime members in the bay area and 13 other major u.s. cities. it used to cost about $6 for same-day service. you still have to pay $99 a year though to be an amazon prime subscriber. a new study suggests millennial are lackadaisical about online safety. 85% of millennial say they use the same online passwords over and over. they're also more likely to accept social media invitations from total strangers than generation x or baby boomers. the study from review site software advice also found millennial more likely to find security workarounds to avoid workplace restrictions. a millenial is generally thought to be anyone born after 1980. >> all right. well, you can always read a good book to stimulate your brain but what if there were an

with the team after they win. might be nice. all right. good morning to everybody. here's a look. i want to give you an update on what we've been watching especially in san jose because it's indicative of most of the bay area. 24 consecutive days of below average temperatures from the third until yesterday when it stopped where we were just at average. and we should be there again today. but as we move forward maybe a couple of days above average before that cooler weather comes back sunday into monday. right now we're watching the winds at sfo 14 fairfield also 14. everybody else less than that. but they will pick up same areas as it has been most of this week east of the golden gate bridge north of the bay bridge, southwest winds around 21 to 33 knots from about 2:00 this afternoon to 9:00 this eching. you can see low clouds erasing back to the west and high clouds coming in from the west and over the east. and they're still creating some flight delays. and the low clouds are gone at least downtown san jose, but high clouds dimming the sunshine there. that's why temperatures won't
