human health and, of course, we're going to continue to do this. >> at stanford david louie, "abc7 news." while police investigated a is crime spree that spanned several cities yesterday afternoon we're learning more what happened inside the gas station in antioch where hostages were held for two hours. laura? >> reporter: hi, dan. one of the hostages was the owner of the gas station. he said he's been here 23 years, probably held up about 15 times. even still, he said yesterday's ordeal was out of the ordinary but to him not terribly frightening. with more than 20 years at this location, gas station owner has made a lot of friends, many who stopped by today to see if he's okay. just 24 hours after being held captive for two hours by an armged man, he said he's not only okay, he has a message for

his captor. >> i wish you the best in the life and thank you for not hurting us. >> reporter: as it turned out his station was the last stop on a spree that began with a car theft, a police chase, a crash and a series of attempted carjacks. >> he had a gun pointed at me. i thought either you hit him or he's going to shoot you. >> reporter: once inside this tiny office he said he and his captors used security cameras to monitor tishts outside including their use of a robot in an armored vehicle. >> it was actually used to be a shield for officers moving from point to point. it was used to transport the hostages. >> reporter: by mid afternoon the suspect released first the 75-year-old balla. then a short time later his manager before walking out and surrendering to police. >> were you frightened? >> no. >> reporter: investigators have yet to release the suspect's identity except to say he's a

"abc7 news." >> hand some tickets to sweetie. she's waiting for you. they lit up the building in blue and gold to celebrate their winning season. well, president obama weighed in on the nba finals during a twitter town hall meeting. man asked the president whether he believed cavaliers j.r. smith can lead the cavs to a championship and outshoot steph curry. president obama did not sugar coat his response. he said the heart of it is lebron. maybe curver. the finals start one week from today. game one of the finals starts at 6:00 at oracle arena. game two is sunday at home at 5:00. games three and four are in cleveland and the following tuesday and thursday and abc 7 is the only place you can watch all the games. the nba finals will be right here on channel 7.

water a day. nearly half that water goes down the bathroom andre. the biggest culprit. toilets. >> new efficiency standards kicked in in 1995. if your toilets are older than that they should be replaced. they're using about six gallons of water per flush. >> reporter: consumer reports found that many low water toilets performed very well. for example this one needs 1.28 gallons per flush. it costs $250. if you have an old showerhead, replace that too. many use half a gallon less per minute. your washing machine is responsible for about 20% of the water usage in your home. >> the worst machines we use use 25 gallons to do one load but we found some that use less than half that and do a terrific job cleaning. >> two terrific choice this may tag for $950 got top marks for

efficiency and wash performance. so did this samsung. it cost $900. consumer reports also tests dishwashers for water efficiency. they improved so much they use less water than washing your dishes by hand. consider this bosch 500 series for $500 and this kenmore for $530 that uses just four. many of today's dishwashers are so good at cleaning consumer report says don't waste water rinsing your dishes before you put them in your water. this is going to be the best advice i'm going to give all day and you're going to get all day. they recommend monitoring your water meter for two hours while everything is turned off. that way if your meter is moving you probably have leaks that are worth fixing and a lot of them will be out in your yard. so turn everybody off and go in and look at your meter. if it's still moving time to figure out what's going. >> thank you mike at.

that's great advice. >> let's turn our attention now the weather forecast outside. really nice around the bay area. >> meteorologist sandhya patella with the weather frachlt sandhya? >> unseasonably cool. today temperatures finally came up. the sun's out across most of the bay area and numbers are running anywhere from 2 to about 6 degrees higher than they were yesterday. let's take a look at live doppler seven right now. got up into the low 80s around antioch, fairfield, 78 in livermore livermore. still some fog hanging around the coast and here's a view with the fog. barely peeking through. but that marine layer compressed last night and that's what allowed warming to occur today. 58 in san francisco. it's 62 in oakland. san jose, 67. half moon bay, 56. you'll see that shallow fog layer with the sun up above.

mid-70s. napa, a really warm day in concord. 80 degrees. 76 in livermore. beautiful view from our kgo roof camera. you see the wispy clouds up above and the financial district and the fog rolling in down below. warmer days through saturday. we're looking at a slight chance of maybe drizzle or light showers sunday evening. so when you take a look at the pacific satellite picture you'll see what's going on. high pressure has nudged in just enough. our warming trend is under way. it continues right on through saturday. and then sunday gets cooler as this trough comes through. it's going to pass through northern california but it will deepen our marine layer between sunday evening and monday morning when you head back to work. definitely more than drizzle cooking up the pacific. this is the first tropical storm of the eastern pacific. andres packing winds of up to 60 miles an hour. it's over the water.

it's expected to remain paralleling the coast of mexico. so not actually any threat to land but strengthening to a category 2 hurricane and continuing move north westward over the pacific and weakening by tuesday morning. we'll keep an eye on it in case it starts to veer toward land. tomorrow morning low to mid 50s to start off. because that marine layer has compressed. it might be a bit on the thick side. so allow that extra time and for the afternoon, sunshine and warmer weather than today. 84 in antioch. 81 in concorde. livermore in 80 degree. na parks san rah fashlgs san francisco, 62 and 59 degrees in half moon bay. hey,ite's three-day festival. the bottle rock festival starts tomorrow. gates open at 11:30 a.m. in case you're getting there earlier. cloudy in the low 60s. look how beautiful it is.
