>> it's saturday may 30th. thanks for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with the forecast. here's meteorologist lisa argen tracking the hd. >> good morning everyone. the low clouds have moved in across the bay. we're cloudy. mist and drizzle for the north bay. if you are headed over the golden gate bridge. and visibility down to about a mile or better in santa rosa. here are the numbers right now. in the low to mid-50s. everyone in cloudy, for the most part. for the morning hours you will notice some of the dense fog up in the north bay from santa rosa to petaluma. otherwise with the marine layer slightly shallower, we should get some earlier clearing.

the 80s. we will talk more about 60s and 70s today and a cooler second half of the weekend coming up. >> lisa, thank you. break news overnight out of half moon bay where a fishing boat has run aground t happened around midnight. a 50-foot fishing vessel ran aground. officials say there was only one person on board, a man, and he is refuse to go get off the boat. he tells the coast guard he plans to have his friends rescue him and help him remove the boats from the rocks when the sun comes up. that man has not been injured. this morning the police in oakland of looking for the person responsible for a fatal hit-and-run accident involving three vehicles. it happened yesterday at 5:00 at 14th and adeline street. a passenger in a white pickup truck was killed and the driver and another passenger are hospitalized. a woman driving a gray audie

suffered minor injuries while the driver of a saab hash back ran away from the scene. it took hours, but a newark man who barricaded himself with his young son is in police custody. they say he has a extensive police record. the mother was united with her son after a long dave extensive negotiations. police arrived at the apartment on sycamore street at 9:15 in the morning to deliver a copy of soto against the mother. she wasn't home but he was. he barricademnnf himself inside the apartment and he never made threats he would harm the baby. negotiatetors finally got him out. >> doesn't matter how long we are out here. this is what we want. we want to make sure the child was safe and we wanted him in custody. everyone walks away we are happy. soto walked out with the baby in the stroller.

police say he fed and changed the child throughout the entire standoff. he has been booked into jail on charges of suspicion of felony domestic violence and resist ag rest. a a man has 16 charges filed against him. he led officers on a chase wednesday before taking two people hostage has an arco gas station. he released them before giving himself up to police. 5:03 is the time. police in san francisco is looking for a suspected thief who has a hard time fending themselves. he robbed a woman in a wheelchair has he was riding a muni bus by pretend to go lose his balance. he has story. >> the minute the guy got on the bus last saturday, karen said she noticed something was odd.

in her purse gets replaced. she really wants to catch the robber. >> yeah, i want to get him off the streets. >> widow of a bart police officer killed by friendly fire is suing the transit agencies. tom smith was accidentally shot dead by michael mays back in the search of a dublin home in february of 2014. bart denied her husband's request for more training for high risk searches of homes. bart said it's training exceeds state standards. earthquake and emergency respond experts had a special screening of disaster flicks. in the movie san francisco is hit by a 9.6 quake, damaging much of the state especially san francisco. last night they talked to moviegoers about the reality behind the film. they said most of what you see is not realistic but it's a good

>> two east bay high school students are recovering from burns suffered in scary accident. alan wang said according to firefighters the students knew a gas burner wasn't working properly but they continued to use it. >> it happened just before the annual powder puff football game at dublin high school. >> students were having a club fair with a lot of different food for students to purchase like a food courtout. >> they were pan frying chicken when blames shot out from the burner. >> she touched her hair and screamed it's on fire. it last bad a good minute or so. >> they said a male and female students suffered first degree burns and went to the hospital. one student saw it and pushed his arm up and pushed the girl down to the ground. she got burns on her face and chest and he got it on his arm

>> dunk tanks can be a lot of fun but it takes 450 gallons of freshwater to fill them and that's what concerned the employees at the marriott when the dunk tank appeared in their parking lot. a sign-up said associates can donate one dollar for a chance to dunk a leader, including the manager. the funds going to the children's miracle hospital. the hotel said a nonprofit booked the event but the marriott's e-mail address is at the end of the sign up sheet. a hose is connected to a freshwater spigot. >> it's a lack of respect for the community a little bit. although they have a swimming pool they can use and suffice. >> a dunk tank was delivered to this preparatory school on king road for a conclude weekend carnival. a teacher organizing the event

said the school was conserving water to get the water for the dunk tank. but the company has an alternative, a water less dunk tank that contains 3500 balls instead. >> we came up with the idea not only from a business standpoint but an environmental standpoint by hope it turns out to be a good thing. >> to put it in perspective. 450 gallons of water is equivalent to a lot of bathtubs. >> here's more water going to waste in concord where a vehicle struck a fire hydrant on monument boulevard. it happened yesterday. no telling how much water went to waste but it flooded the street near the entrance to costco. if you think you are being water wasted where you live let us know about it. we have a link where you can send us an e-mail and attach a picture or video if possible. we will be sure to check out as many tips as we can.

>> there may be drought relief in sight in fall. there's an 80% chance an el nino pattern will form bringing rain in october and november. but there's a chance of flooding if it brings too much moisture. >> when you get into a situation like that where you have days and weeks of rain, flooding becomes more of a probability and likelihood. it depend on the duration and the intensity of the storms. >> a moderate el nino system is most likely to bring rain to southern california. if it strengthens further, northern california will enjoy a very wet winter. meanwhile, other parts of the country is bracing for a blast of severe weather as we start the weekend. president obama has designed a declaration of disaster for texas. there are recovery efforts in the area affected by severe weather since may 40th.

28 people in texas and oklahoma have been killed by the storms. meanwhile residents south of houston have been forced to evacuate due to rising rivers. as we bring in our meteorologist lisa argen. 5:20, the time. tough to see the images, lisa. >> absolutely. and more rain forecasted for texas today unfortunately and we are looking at a little bit of a warming trend here. that's got news. anything too warm, of course, will take us into higher fire danger. but the southeastest day of the being -- weekend will be today. here's a look at live doppler 7hd where you can see some of the higher clouds offshore. and it's about 1,000 feet deep, the marine layer. for a moment we will take you into the tropical pacific for a look at andres. it's a hurricane with 90 miles per hour winds moving to the northwest at 7 miles an hour. because it's moving in that direction and into cooler water, it is not a threat to mexico.

it will continue to weaken as we go through the next couple of days. here's the look now. a pretty shot from the east bay hills camera. vollmer peak. temperatures in the low to56 san jose, morgan hill 52. it's cloudy on the peninsula and the south bay. san francisco 50 right now. sfo no problems. we are looking a the a little mist and drizzle for some of you along the coast. 51 napa. fog has been an issue from santa rosa. 50 petaluma and by the delta southwest wind up to 22 miles an hour, transporting some of the cooler air this morning. but from mt. tam you can see it looks pretty nice this morning with the sun coming up. 5:50. here's the forecast highlights. morning mist and drizzle for some. mild to warm today, and we are looking at today the warmer day with temperatures just on the other side of 80 in our inland valleys. and then there is a system that will head down into the pacific northwest. that will bring cooler temperatures tomorrow and, in fact, some of the high clouds you may notice today on the increase. here's a look at our pacific

news >> glad to have you with us this morning. i'm chris nguyen. we are starting this half-hour with a quick look at the forecast. here's meteorologist lisa argen. lisa, we are starting off with mist and drizzle for some. >> that's right. last weekend of may. can we mix things up a little bit? it has been awfully cool for the month. as we start out you see the low clouds from our roof camera a little bit of a breeze and temperatures in san francisco have been on the chilly side. right now it's 50. 55 in san carlos. low 50s from morgan hill to half moon bay. visibility has been a problem up in santa rosa. here is the view of the morning light over lake tahoe. what a shot. very pretty. temperatures still in our east bay and north bay just in the low to mid-50s. not bad. as we go through the afternoon these low clouds and fog certainly will scatter on out. we will see a few higher clouds. san francisco in the mid-50s coastside.

right now but that backs off temperatures get to the 80s. the marine layer will mix out earlier today and that will warm us up. you see the sunrise here at mt. tam. mist and drizzle in the north bay and low visibility from petaluma to novato. mild to warm for most and a carolina day tomorrow. there's a system offshore. too bad it's not aimed right at the bay area. here it is. it is aimed at northern california. the tale end of it today you may see some increasing clouds due to the system, and then tomorrow it ramps up the marine layer and allows for cooler temperatures. today your saturday warm with temperatures in the lower 80s. then this system nudges ever so closer to the coast. and there is the shower activity associated it. so if you have drizzle this morning, better likelihood tomorrow. you can see a little bit of shower activity heading up to the north coast.

it all translates into a cooler second half of the weekend for us. so talk about warmth. look at yosemite. 98 degrees. a hot day there with 99 in fresno. so they want a little relief and cooler weather with that system on wait for the central valleys. 77 in los angeles today. we are looking at a pleasant day newspaper the north bay for bottlerock, a concert in napa. warmer today at 75 degrees and tomorrow increasing clouds and temperatures coming down just a few degrees about low 70s for the afternoon highs. so numbers around the bay today ranging ranging from upper 50s half moon bay, 69 santa cruz, 73 palo alto, 77 both san jose and santa rosa. but you head inland, here are the lower to mid-80s. it will feel warm and a pretty nice afternoon. but if you are looking to head into san francisco this evening for the game, it will be a cool one with some winds picking up from time to time. 57 at 7:05 at at&t park and sun

could be this weekend around the bay area. occasion is the sixth annual mattie's pet adoption days. it's a free pelt adoption event for the public with more than 80 rescues and shelters participating at nearly 100 locations. those include stone ridge mall oakland a animals services and baldwin park in concord. dogs and cats are eager to become part of your family. be warned, it's hard it resist some of those big puppy eyes. yesterday there was the opening of the observatory on the new world trade center tower. the public viewing areas are located on 1900th to 102nd floors of the budding and has some of the most scenic views of the bay area. you can get to the bottom to the top in about 1 minute the. next a three-car crash that left one people dead in oakland.
