>> it's sunday may 31st. good morning. i'm chris nguyen in for carolyn tyler. let's start with the forecast. parts of the bay area seeing mist and drizzle this morning. we have it all on hopler hd. hi, lisa. >> not only that delays at sfo and wind gusts up to 35 miles an hour and 3-mile visibility from santa rosa to the coastline. it's because we are ahead of this system that will bring more mist and drizzle and cooler days ahead for the bay area. notice the cloud cover and the texture. that's high and mid-level cloud cover on top of our low clouds.

it will take some time to clear. 52 downtown. notice the clouds pull back mid-afternoon. but look what happens. look at the colors. we have greens to the east bay and the orange well into the valleys. big cool down today. details coming up. >> pleasa, thank you. breaks news from new york city. this is a live picture from manhattan where a crane crashed into a building and is now leaning against the structure. you see where the crane hit the top portion of the building which is on madison avenue between 38th and 39th streets. there is report it was lifting an air conditioning unit on to the building and the cable snap and it dropped. at least five people are hurt. preliminary indications are that the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. however, the street below is now littered with debris and we are also now receiving word there is a water main break at the location. we will continue to follow the story. be sure to turn to our twitter

abc7 news for coverage. there is renewed attention on a constant problem in the east bay. side shows. a dangerous event that takes over intersections endangering the lives of drivers and spectators. one happened again this weekend. we have more. [screeching tires] >> the screaching tires on this street near interstate 880 were heard throughout the neighborhood. >> it was pretty loud. i heard it, it was pretty loud. >> this oakland resident tells me these side shows happen here much too often. >> it's frustrating, it's scary, and unfortunately it's part of our life now so we are used to it. >> residents and business owners say that car spinouts like this happen here at least twice a month. here's last november at the exact same spot. oakland police and the highway patrol have tried to crack down on these side shows.

they even mobilized a massive blockade at a large sideshow at the part back in november. but one hot rod owner i talked to tells me there still isn't much fear the police are going to break up these events. >> do you ever worry the police will show up? >> not really. >> the owner of this black dodge challenger said he's seen lofts of these side shows but he's only watched them in oakland. some neighbors say they aren't surprised by the side shows. >> there's nothing to do in oakland right now. the kids are starting to make their own way and do their own thing and have their own fun. >> as far as the chp are concerned, the side shows are not only illegal and dangerous but they pull resources away from other duties. two chp cruisers were dispatched away from a fatality friday night to check on this sideshow. but the participants quickly sped off and officers issued no citations. sergio quintana abc7 news. oakland police are looking for the driver of a car that hit

and killed a pedestrian friday night deliberately. police believe the pedestrian, a man in his 40s, was targeted by the driver. victim died at the scene. new this morning secretary of state john kerry is flying back to boston after being involved in a bicycle crash. he hit a curb and fell while exercising and likely suffered a leg injury. he was airlifted to a hospital in geneva where he is listed in stable condition. the accident happened while he was on a four-nation tour. vice president joe biden is mourning the loss of his son beau. the former attorney general of damage wear lost his battle with brain cancer last night. beau biden was diagnosed with the disease three years ago. doctors said he was cancer free affeldt undergoing radiation and chemotherapy but the cancer returned earlier this year. biden sought treatment at walter reed medical center. in a statement from the vice president, joe biden writes in

the words of the biden family, bo biden was quite simply the finest man that any of us have ever known." beau biden was 46. the number of confirmed deaths from the flooding in texas and oklahoma are growing this morning. 31 confirmed fatalities and 11 are still missing. details from dallas. >> heavy rain and strong storms take a follow from texas to michigan. in houston overflowing waters literally rising from the ground up and out of these manhole covers. blinding rain making travel nearly impossible. and fans seeking refuge at the ballpark were forced out by flooding. drone footage making tennis courts unrecognizable. look at this before and after the overflowing lake where nearby residents are fed up with the rain. >> a week ago thursday it was

7 feet from that fence. >> so it's come up ten feet in just a week? >> ah-ha. >> that's a lot of water. >> overnight, parked cars thrown on top of each other. in southern michigan rainfall pouring in and over 3 inches so far. cbs news, dallas, texas. >> people in san francisco's marinea district are drying out after a driver backed a car into the fire hydrant sending water shooting into the air. fire hydrant and shot water into the air for more than 10 minutes yesterday afternoon sending water on to the roof of a three story building. one tenant just moved in and almost had to cancel a housewarming party. >> we get a photo of the fire hydrant across the street that exploded and said i don't know if my living room is flooded right now or not. we may have to cancel the party but they came and drained the roof and they are doing a good job. >> most of the water damaged a common area outside of the individual apartments.

in the north bay shoppers scattered after a water main break at an upscale outdoor mall. the mall filled with water just after 4:30 yesterday afternoon. they were able to turn off the water flow. the good news nothing was damaged and all the stores were able to stay open. >> in san jose, young performers took to the stage last night to bring awareness to cyber bullying. ♪ ♪ >> abc7 news was at san pedro square for the "rock for a reason" event. all the money goes to the audrey pott foundation, named after the 15-year-old saratoga high school student who committed suicide. she passed out at a party and was sexually assaulted. pictures of the assault were posted online. three teenage boys pled guilty to doing that. >> audrey did reach out to a lot of her friends, and we feel it

was a cry for help that went unanswered. >> last year governor brown signed audrey's law, increasing penalties for teenagers convicted in cyber bullying crimes. tomorrow morning a big protest is planned outside of facebook's headquarters in menlo park. the drag queen sister roma is leading the march to change their privacy policies. facebook closes accounts under fake names. they believe using the policy to target lgbt individuals. turning to the warriors on the eve of the nba finals, there's been a shake-up in the dub's coaching staff. steve kerr's top assistant alvin gentry, has been named the head coach of the new orleans pelicans. gentry is the top defensive mind with the warriors. the pelicans will be his fourth team as head coach. steve kerr is happy for gentry and wishes him luck. he has a tremendous impact on our success?

can't just get there like in a couple minutes. but it will be cooler than average to start the week. that's not the big news. the big news some chances of rain not only into tomorrow, but this time new forecast models are pointing toward an interesting end of the work week. i'll explain in a moment. live doppler 7hd. we are looking at sunshine, despite the delays at sfo concord and livermore this morning. otherwise it's partly cloudy skies as you head out for sunday. take a look at this weather system. it's going to weaken. it's an area of low pressure and a cold front that will head up to northern california, but it keeps us in a cool sector, cloudier skies a stronger on shore push and widespread drizzle into tomorrow. this is interesting. this is a hurricane, andre a category 2, 105 miles an hour and it's point to go weakening in the pacific. but looks like it's going to be picked up by an incoming system

and could spread motion into california as far north as central california by thursday and friday and maybe into next weekend, perhaps bringing some rainfall to much of the state. it's way too early to pinpoint, but it is making for some changes in the seven-day outlook. as we get started this morning, this is tam, ab secured by the clouds. 54 in san carlos and oakland this morning. a beach shot for you. santa cruz only in the 60s today. partly cloudy skies. 53 for napa and cooler day at bottlerock. concord will see sunnier conditions but it will be much cooler yesterday. and from the east bay hills camera, can't see mt. diablo but you see all the cloud cover from above and the 2,000-foot marine layer be bow. today ends may, of course and then a cool start to june. it looks like it's going to get

interesting, a mixture of june gloom and maybe some showers by the end of the week. here's the visible pictures. look how nice this is. this is the stratus all up and down the coast. this is the front bringing the high and mid-level clouds to much of the state. i wish we could get some moisture oust it but we will see the extra cloud cover, the deeper marine layer. you see the track of it heads well to the north. but we are starting out june the same way we ended may with more cloud cover and temperatures cooler than afternoon. san jose, 74 today. you should be 78. cooler for the first few days then by the end of the week even with the extra cloud cover we should warm up. today look for 75. los gatos 72 and cupertino 66, milbrae at 64. a little sun. south city only 63. and in fran 59. 70 in petaluma. cool in the north bay and cooler in the east bay. 68 hayward. head inplanned look at the green.

>> the time is 9:30. thanks so much for starting your sunday with us. i'm chris nguyen, in for carolyn tyler. let's send it over to meteorologist lisa argen. she's been tracking the cool temperatures over much of the way bay area this weekend. how is it going over there? >> the culprit is an offshore pressure and associated cold front. it will spread in more widespread drizzle and clouds into tomorrow. not only the low clouds and marine layer slow to clear high clouds and mid-level clouds ahead. 54 san carlos and half moon bay. don't expect any sunshine here. temperatures trending down today all across the bay, except the coast where it's been in the 50s. san francisco today just 59. only low 60s in oakland. 70s in san jose. but take a look.

we are only looking at 70s for a high in the east bay valleys. that's about an 8-degree cool down. we will talk about the beginning of june in a few minutes. chris. >> lisa, thank you. former maryland governor martin o'malley is in new hampshire this morning introducing himself as the newest democratic presidential nomination in 2016. o'malley announced his candidacy yesterday in baltimore, where he previously served as mayor. o'malley said he called his opponent, former secretary of state hillary clinton to inform her of the news. he told clinton it's time for new leadership. >> the american dream we share its powerful history its current condition and its urgent need of rebuilding. >> o'malley is the third candidate for the democratic nomination, joining clinton and vermont senator bernie sanders. many of you just saw martin o'malley on "this week" trying to make the case for his candidacy.

hour today. the numbers are well below average. napa at 55. a cooler day today up at bottlerock. you can see the higher clouds framing mt. diablo and that will be a definite indicator of the partly cloudy sky today. out ahead of the system we will see some clouds out ahead of it. the cooler condition not only today but tomorrow should be the cool he felt day of the week. and looks like the end of the week could get warmer and more moisture. kind of muggy. another chance of showers due to a hurricane dying on the vine in the pacific. but right now all sites on this system here. these are hugging the coast, not going anywhere, and we put it all together and you notice the moisture in the atmosphere all pushing up and away from california. but still we will get the mist

san francisco's famed botanical garden is marking a milestone today, and you are invited. the garden in golden gate park is turning 75 years old. it boasts the world's largest magnolia collection outside of china. the celebration includes a keynote speech by lieutenant governor gavin newsome, guided walking tours, as well as dance performances. it runs from 10:00 to 5:00 and admission is free. >> great day to bring the kids out. >> you won't need the jackets. 70 fremont mid-60s for san rafael. look at the east bay valleys, low to mid-70s. a cool down today that continues with widespread drizzle tonight and tomorrow morning. and then we will stay kind of steady with 60s and 70s tuesday and wednesday. by the end of the week we could see another chance of showers as the temperatures slowly warm and that could make things interesting around here. >> we will wait and see. lisa, thank you.

discover the champion in you! . . i've been going through a lot right now with my mom. she's been battling colon cancer. this is a tough time and a tough city. he just gives me more strength. he's always positive. greater things to come... hope and belief that god is always working for you and on your side. life changing. i can be closer to god without feeling like i'm too young for this. and it was really moving. and everybody together under one roof. what more could i ask for? i'm a college student and he really spoke to me. what god has in your future will supersede what you've seen in your past. he's inspired me to go through the right path. really energizing and rejuvenating my soul after a tough day. all you have to do is say, "god i'm an open vessel and i'm ready to receive" and he will change your perspective. why can't god use you to do something great? why can't you fulfill your destiny?
