begin with vinita vandari who owns this school and eight others. >> we had no reason to believe anything until that day he was arrested and the following day the authorities told us the charges were child molestation. >> what was your reaction to that? >> very shocked, but the relieving thing is that none of the schoolchildren are in danger or at risk. >> the this afternoon after that interview, pleasanton police confirmed that the alleged molestation did happen on campus late last year. the victim a former student who had attended the stool when it was known as busy bees and under previous ownership. police did not say why she returned to the school. they would only say the victim was less than 14 years old and that it appears to have been an isolated incident. at this point in the investigation we have no evidence to believe that there are any additional victims except the one that came forward. >> what kind of evidence do you

have? >> i can't speak to the specifics of the evidence, but there was enough evidence to convince the d.a. that there was a solid case and they brought charges. >> until this i would have said he is a very very liked respected and awesome teacher. he was very loved and parents are very shocked and disappointed, too, and they all want to bring him back. >> that's pretty much everything we know since the story broke just a few hours ago. parents have been filing into the school for about 45 minutes. we will presume that this meeting has begun. we asked police who will be there what they'll be telling the parents. the key message they said is that your children are safe. in pleasanton wayne freedman, abc 7 news. >> all right, wayne. thank you. >> san jose's evergreen elementary school district began today. this is to determine weather administrators ignored sexual

abuse. in 2013, a teacher convicted craig chandler for molesting students at whale elementary school. they ignored warning signs and looked the other way. >> a man accused of holding two people hostage at an antioch gas station last week appeared in court. horatio gutierrez entered 16 charges and his bail was set at nearly $5 million on friday, but it was reduced to $2.8 million today. investigators said gutierrez carjacked a driver led officers on a chase and then held two people hostage at an arco gas station. after releasing the hostages he gave himself up to police. in the midst of what is a historic drought, sanford university is letting the water flow. the school turned off its fountain ahead of graduation. those fountains will require 60,000 gallons of water.

it will recycle that water later this summer. >> today marks the beginning of water cutbacks across the state. david louie is always a challenge to save water. >> it is a 3% some people around here are wishing their lava in their lungs but some are taking dantadvantage of it entirely. residents are flooding the water district for applications for turf removal rebates. they get 2% back if they follow the prescribed rules which can cover as much as a third to a half of a typical home. >> we have stacks of paperwork as you can see. it is increasing the amount of time that it takes to process each one of these individually. >> 760 rebates have been issued so far this year. 800 more are in process.

protesters gave a thumbs down in front of the social media giants's huge rainbow-colored thumbs up sign at the company's headquarters. this protest is about facebook's real name policy organizers say some facebook users are targeting members of their community. >> people are using to maliciously target and bully the lgbt community because they find us objectionable just because of the way we look or because of what they think we represent. >> reporter: in october she said they had reached an agreement with facebook over users' identity and some people say the process of proving themselves to the social media company is typical. >> it took me three months to get my name back. >> she was born male and is now legally a female. her worry is for people who live in countries for being gay and transgendered is punishable by prifsh or death. >> if the government finds out you're living this life they

applaud the move calling it a moment of tremendous freedom. lyanne mel endes joins us from the newsroom? this is sort of an introduction to jenner's television series life as a transgender woman which she started shooting in may, but let me tell you, today's announcement spread throughout the internet. in four hours she reached 1 million followers on twitter. she tweeted another jenner world record and at 65, who would have thought? >> it is destined to be onest most iconic magazine covers of the century, shot by annie leibovitz. the transition from bruce jen tore caitlyn was made public just two months after speaking to abc's diane sawyer. >> are you a woman? >> yes. for all intents and purposes i am a woman. >> reporter: the 65-year-old jenner appeared today on twitter with a new handle. i'm so happy after such a long struggle to be living my true self. welcome to the world caitlyn. can't wait for you to get to

the suspected thief did not get very far. vic lee joins us live at the scene right now. vic? >> well, this is where the accused car thief, 37-year-old peter deroone crashed a stolen bmw on mason street near union square. the car ended up against the wall. you can still see the marks of the collision and before that the car smashed boo ainto a parked suv and he is lucky to be alive tonight. >> omg, the m stands for the bmw m seary, but today it stood for oh, my god. how do you drive a bmw off a showroom floor and go down three feet into a sidewalk? >> that's what happened after 5:00 a.m. this morning at the bmw dealership on howard street. the thief broke into the building, found the box with car keys and tried to steal a bmw

but it didn't fit through the showroom window, so he took another one that did and he drove on to howard street narrowly missing this chevy parked at the meter. it was john's rental car. >> i don't have to pay the deductible on the car because it wasn't hit, but i got a parking ticket. >> a parking violation for $66. he couldn't move the car for hours because it was in a crime scene. the bmw then traveled at high speeds to gary and mason and turned abruptly going the wrong way on mason a one-way street. it jumped a sidewalk and smashed with the limo driver asleep in the car. it stopped when it hit a building wall. >> the first thing i remember is feeling a big impact and a loutd sound of a crash. next thing i know my door is up against the tree. the thief ran all of the way to the 200 block of seventh street where he was arrested.

police would say only that they were responding to a domestic dispute that involved the thief. vic lee, abc 7 news. what a story. san francisco city supervisors are looking to ban soda ads on all publicly-owned property. supervisor cohen and scott weiner introduced a bill today that they compared to the decades-long war of cigarette ads and they want to ban on spending city money on soda and sugary drinks. op bonents say the policy would step on people's freedoms. >> the government's role is to protect the public's health of the community and we did that with cigarettes, with taxes and health warnings and we've done it with mandatory seat belt laws and motorcycle helmet laws and when people get diabeteses from these drinks we all pay for that. >> vintage ads and the coke bottle slide at the ballpark at at&t would still be okay. >> let's get a check of the forecast now and it started out with a little damp and dreary in

some parts and sandhya patel joining us live with the forecast. >> hi there. it brightened up in many parts of the bay area like it is right now and cloud cover lingering as we take a look at live doppler 7 hd and we'll talk about the potential for more drizzle for your morning commute. right now we're watching those clouds just hanging around parts of the bay and coast and as you look at those winds a little gusty to 28 miles an hour out of the west and 22 in vacaville and still out of the west. despite the fact that we have the onshore breeze and you'll notice that the water temperatures are running a little bit above normal. check out monterey bay, five degrees above the average of 55 degrees. so we are noticing probably along the coastline that it's feeling muggy because of the warmer than normal water temperatures. san jose camera showing you sunshine in the south bay and here is a look at your temperature. 63 in san francisco and 69 in

oakland and san carlos not far behind and 73 in san jossy and as you look at this live picture from the exploratorium camera, just a beautiful view and this is what i'm looking at from my vantage point and mid-70s around napa and livermore and 78 degrees in vacaville and from the emoriville camera you'll be seeing more of the low cloudiness pushing in in the overnight hours and spotty drizzle returns tonight and cooler patterns continue and it shows up this upcoming weekend. here is a low that produced the drizzle and light showers earlier today. it's lifting out and we're pretty much going to continue with the steady onshore pattern. it extends all of the way across the ocean and so the wind is going to continue to flow in off the ocean water and then work its way across the inland areas. as we take a look at the pacific, it's really heating up and the tropics there, tropical storm blanca newly formed off the west coast of mexico and hurricane andres is a powerful

category 3. andres is going to fall apart. meanwhile, blankal strengthen, paralleling the mexico coast. so keep this in mind if you are traveling to mexico. what we're really keeping an eye on is what will be left of andres. some of the that moisture could make its way across southern california on saturday producing rain and some of it may trail up toward our area and we'll have to wait and see. this upcoming weekend we do have a slight chance for showers particularly on sunday lingering into monday morning. as you take a look at the overnight temperatures, low to mid 50s for most of you and drizzly for the morning commute and you will need the extra time if it is slick in spots you might slow down there. tomorrow afternoon 64 in san francisco and 71 degrees for you in oakland. 74 in san jose and up to 83 in antioch and 79 in santa rosa. accuweather seven-day forecast and the temperatures low 60s to low 80s range. over the weekend we'll be watching for the slight chance of showers on sunday and going

dropped off a vintage apple 1 computer at a recycling plant and she has still not come forward. the woman donated boxes to a recycling center in milpitas. one of them contained one of the first apple computers ever made. the company sold it for $200,000 to a private collector. their policy is to give her half of the proceeds that is if she ever comes forward. >> i hope she does. a swiss pilot set a world record today by flying more than days straight without fuel. the pilot of silver impulse 2 touched down in japan this morning after a 1700-mile flight. that is the longest solo flight ever reported. he'd been trying to make it all of the way to hawaii, but severe weather forced him to land in japan. ese on a 22,000 mile around the world journey and it started in march in dubai and will end in abu dhabi later this year. >> that's a long way. a shopping spree for young
