and good tuesday morning to all. thanks for being here. i'm t.j. holmes. >> and i'm kayna whitworth. i'm in for reena ninan today. and we start with the risk yet again of flash flooding, it's happening again today, millions of people on the east coast dealing with it. >> and this is what we're talking about here. this is a look at the live radar, plenty of rain rolling through from d.c. up to boston. all this means is a morning travel nightmare on the roads. and you expect plenty of delays at the airports as well. >> last night, washington, d.c. got soaked and you see that lightning. wind taking down -- it fell right on a bus. there were passengers inside when that happened. nobody was hurt. it was much of the same story in southern new jersey, heavy rain forcing road closures. >> and one guy got a little creative here. this is the jersey shore. using a paddle board to get around.

going past the starbucks there. expect more of the same, maybe not paddle board but people getting creative out there. >> okay, so, the thing is, there might be some relief in sight. >> maybe, don't take our word for it. let's turn to the professionals from accuweather. let's turn to justin povick. >> t.j. and kayna, good morning. a wet start to the day and it looks like it's going to be a wet finish to the day. hartford and boston, where flash flooding is also going to be possibility. keep in mind, many cities here received 3, 4 inches of rain, much of which fell on monday we'll continue that high-water threat up that 95 pike from d.c. up toward boston and portland. now southbound, it's not a walk in the park, either, dangerous, slow-moving thunderstorms will dump heavy rainfall from the carolinas into the sunshine state of florida. also along interstate 95. that continues late week. northeast on thing showers with cooler temperatures.

t.j. and kayna, back to you. >> all right, justin, thank you so much. and we have major developments that abc news broke about a damaging new report about the tsa. >> the undercover investigation revealed that tsa agents failed to find fake weapons about 95% of the time. too much. abc's bazi kanani is joining us from washington with more on this story. >> reporter: good morning. the report on the investigation is classified, so the head of homeland security isn't commenting on the specific results, but he does acknowledge that changes are needed and says they're coming. tsa screeners put to the test when the department of homeland security sent undercover agents to dozens of america's airports. what they found was an alarming rate of failure. in one case, sources tell abc news an uncover agent set an alarm at a magnetometer.

they failed to detect the fake explosive device that was taped to his back. >> it's disconcerting when we're trained to identify those type of prohibitive items and it doesn't work. >> reporter: it may not work the vast majority of the time. according to officials briefed on the results of the internal investigation, tsa screeners failed 67 out of 70 tests, allowing those undercover agents to repeatedly get potential bombs or weapons through security. >> the terrorists do watch this. they do watch and they go to school on how they can learn from possible vulnerabilities. >> reporter: this morning, homeland security secretary jeh johnson is ordering changes. demanding that the agency revise standard operating procedures for screeners. provide intensive training for supervisors. retest and re-evaluate screening equipment. and tsa screeners can expect

even more random covert testing. secretary johnson says that undercover testing has been done for 13 years to improve the tsa screening process and he adds that the numbers in the reports never look good when taken out of context. still, this time, it was serious enough to require immediate changes. t.j., kayna. >> all right, bazi kanani, thank you as always. also this morning, secretary of state kerry back in boston awaiting surgery on his broken leg. kerry was transported to mass general hospital after he returned to the u.s. secretary's an avid cyclist and he fractured his femur when biking in france. his surgery is schedule for monday. he'll handle business before surgery. hundreds are still missing after a small cruise ship sank in china. search teams heard sounds coming from the partially submerged ship. several people have been found, five deaths confirmed.

about 450 people, mostly elderly, were aboard that ship. south carolina senator lindsey graham has become the ninth candidate to enter the republican race for president. graham returned home to his hometown to make it official. he told his supporters that he has more experience with national security than anyone else in the race. including clinton. also learn more about hillary clinton's campaign themes next week, she makes her first major speech as a candidate right here in new york. clinton will be joined by her husband and daughter as she speaks on the roosevelt island in the east river. the story everybody's talking about yesterday. the new name and new look for the star once known as bruce jenner. >> yes, caitlyn jenner gracing "vanity fair." custom-made ivy satin corset. it was part of a two-day shoot. >> the 65-year-old

significantly in 2016, with one insurer in new mexico proposing a 50% increase. number of factors contribute to the higher premiums, including rising drug prices. >> ford is recalling 1 million mustang and gt sports cars because of defective air bags. these airbags made by takata they can inflate with too much force and possibly explode. but, takata agreed last week to expand the recall here in the u.s. so ford is recalling additional model years. what do you think about this, delta airlines looking to speed up the boarding pass this summer. the carrier is offering early valet, airline workers will preload carry-on bags on passenger seats. the service started on monday and it will be offered through august. at delta's busiest airports. including atlanta, new york, dallas and detroit.

for wet pavement from florida all of the way up to maine. all that rain could cause flooding in the mid-atlantic region. soggy down to texas. and into the northwest. you won't find this surprising if you're flying, airport delays are expected from d.c. to boston. also, this morning, lot of people are talking about this, a lot of questions about how an american was mauled to death by a lion. >> yeah, the big cat attacked the 22-year-old woman at a safari park in south africa. she was taking the lion's picture from inside the car, but she had the window down. that's a violation of park's rules. the cat lunged into the car. she was traveling with another american tourist. a man also suffered serious injuries while trying to help her. the lion has been moved off public display. also, a kentucky dad under fire after leaving his toddler alone in the truck. the bystander captured video after spotting the child strapped in his car seat in a parking lot. the windows were down, the engine was running.

,. live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> good tuesday morning. it is 4:28. june 2nd. already. >> i am kristen sze. >> i am eric thomas. we are here with meteorologist mike nicco looking at the forecast. >> climate change. mother nature is being fickle. the good news it is not so wet this morning. we have a little bit of drizzle. a little bit of fog. the amounts we dealt with and the traffic problems we had, hopefully that is not a repeat. here is a look from our camera you can see how dry the embarcadero is. i will keep drizzle in the forecast through 7:00. the clouds will open quicker today. it will be windy. temperatures are slightly warmer in the 12-hour day planner from 60 at the coast to upper 60 to money 70s inland.

a very comfortable evening 58 at the coast and 64 around bay and 72 inland i do have more showers and drizzle in the forecast. >> thank you mike. >> breaking news if the santa clara county community where firefighters are battling a two-alarm fire. our reporter is there. how much progress are they making matt? they made good progress, fighting the fire defensively. the good news is there were five people inside the home at the time of the fire and all five safely made it out. they do have a at that is missing. they are hoping their pet somehow was also able to escape. check out what firefighters were dealing with flames and smoke coming off the two story, 3,000 square foot home. one heard popping sounds from the second floor, an art studio and described it as an underground art studio with spray paint cans that were exploding. when fires confirmed everyone was out they fought defensive
