new uc davis study finds it will cost the state's economy $2.7 billion this year and nearly 1900 jobs. the study includes a one-third increase in the number of acres that they'll have for lack of water bringing that total to more than half a million. one of the first steps to conserving water is understanding how much water you use every day. we do have a link to a calculator that will help you figure that out on abc 7 news.com. >> the shooting death of of a suspected terrorist in boston is having an impact in oakland. the imam of the lighthouse mosque on martin luther king way insists his younger brother was confronted by boston police and shot three times in the back. lyanne melendez has more on how this evolved. >> reporter: about an hour ago we were told the imam was on his way to boston to be with family members. in fact, he moved to oakland about a year ago or so from boston. those who came to pray were

shocked. usaama rahim was supposedly you understand surveillance by the fbi and joint terrorism task force. boston police say an officer and an fbi agent confronted him this morning in front of a drugstore. they say that's when rahim pulled out a military-style knife. this afternoon police released a picture of the weapon. >> he turned and the officers asked and gave several commands for him to drop the weapon and unfortunately, he came at the officers and they do what they were trained to do and unfortunately, they had to take a life and that's never an easy decision for any officers to do. >> police did not offer any details, only to say the shooting was under investigation, but his brother, an imam at the lighthouse mofshg in oakland was using social media to tell his version saying his 26-year-old brother had been shot three times in the back. ibrahim rahim posted he was on his cell phone with my dear father during the confrontation

not affect operations and all five targeted flights landed safely. >> take a look at the bomb squad in action in union city that's a suspicious device being blown up. watch it again from sky 7 hd. the device was spotted on g street around 11:45 and residents were ordered to stay away as the bomb squad was called in. no one was injured and there was no damage. a teenager accused of stabbing to death his friend's brother pleaded not guilty to murdering the 9-year-old boy. 18-year-old william schultz stabbed holmgren. schultz confessed to the crime during a jailhouse interview saying he wanted to feel what it was like to take a life. an accused serial car burglar is behind bars after he rammed and occupied a police car any then led officers on a chase yesterday. palo alto police arrested 27-year-old oakland resident

andrew peacock. bruce miller must attend a 16-week domestic counseling course after pleading no contest today to disturbing the peace. a protective stay away order also remains in effect stemming from an argument from a former fiance. miller threw her cell phone against a wall during that argument and was never accused of hitting her. today the nfl announced it will hear tom brady's appeal of his four-game suspension. the league suspended the quarterback for his role in the controversy involving under-inflated footballs in the afc victory over indianapolis in january. the nfl commissioner roger goodell wrote to brady and said, quote, my mind is open. the appeal will be heard june 23rd. turning to basketball and the warriors. we now know that cla tochl will play. the warriors have arrived in the bay area at san francisco international and the cleveland cavaliers, that is and they are

boulevard just after 2:30 this morning they made sure everyone got out safely and then fought the flames defensively from the outside. eventually the second floor collapsed and the firefighters' intuition was right and it was way too dangerous. smoke alarms didn't wake up the five people sleeping. instead it was a loud popping sound. >> i was thinking gun fire at first. >> and then what? what did you see after that? and then after that all i hear is you need to get out of the house. you need to get out of the house. >> the gun fire, that was actually 50 to 60 spray paint cans exploding. two artists live in the home and one uses the spray paint and another an abstract painter and the $2.5 million home was also their studio and both lost almost everything in the flames. you'll have to buy new tools. it takes up out of storage and sell another painting and buy some more paintbrushes and buy some more oils. >> everything i own and

everything from my son's baby pictures all my paint. i had quite a lot of paint. i did have quite a bit of canvas and just everything my whole life basically. >> reporter: firefighters say the cause of the fire may be filed as undetermined because it may be too dangerous for the investigator to go inside. the red cross was here and they're putting up some of the residents at local motels. reporting, matt keller, abc 7 news. a man who was abalone diving died this morning. the group got out of the boat to swim when gerald mcgwire became unresponsive. his friends performed cpr, but sadly mcgwire died on the way to the hospital. no word yet who what caused his death. a father and his 18 month old son had serious injuries after their car rear ended a truck. this happened just before 8:00 on southbound highway 29 just north of meadows plaza.

apparently that child was not 18 months old and was 6 years old. let me correct that. the child was flown to uc davis medical center and the condition has not been released at this point. >> state senators approved a law that would ban e-cigarettes from public places and smoking is prohibited. senator mark leno of san francisco introduced the bill. leno said the ban is necessary because vaping is popular with teenagers. the fastest growing segment of new users are in middle school and high school. opponents argue that e-cigarettes use on vapor and not smokes so they should be treated differently. they make it easier for cal-state students to receive financial aid or special grants. the measure would provide a assistance to students. senators approved the measure

35-0. california could become the first state in the nation to extend health coverage to undocumented immigrant children. the state senate approved the legislation today. anyone under the age of 19 from low-income families would qualify for state-funded medical. california will seek federal approval to help private health insurance. supporters originally wanted all immigrants included and focused on children to have a better shot at getting the governor's approval. >> a showdown is under way at san francisco's city hall as one of the most controversial housing proposals in recent years. it called on moratoriums in the mission. it would take the approval of nine advisers to pass and they had 2008 has been affordable far below the mayor's goal of 33% and that showdown is expected to run into the evening. a developer in san francisco is planning to build new apartments in the mission and south of market. according to the san francisco business times the units will be less than 200 square feet.

degrees at santa rosa and napa, petaluma and 79 in fairfield and 78 concord and 76 at livermore and we have just a few clouds and mainly blue sky over sfo right now and these are the forecast features that will be partly cloudy to mainly sunny tomorrow and drizzle returns thursday morning and we'll have a slow warming trend through the weekend and into early next week. the satellite image shows a series of weak impulses moving in our direction and they don't have any well-structured storms moving our way and we might squeeze precipitation, and here is the forecast animation beginning at 9:00 tomorrow morning at which point we'll see patchy low clouds and followed by low clouds and giving us what we call filtered sunshine and overnight tomorrow night as the low clouds return. we'll see a bit of moisture developing and it may produce areas of drizzle for early thursday morning commute and it won't be widespread and there could be wet spots because of the patchy drizzle thursday morning.

down to the south and pacific we have two hurricanes. hurricane andres is about to lose its hurricane punch. the hurricane blanca is gaining strength and over the next several days it's expected to reach category 3 and category 4 as it makes landfall over the weekend near cabo san lucas and it will be a problem for western portions of mexico and there was a hint of some of the moisture from andres moving into southern california and that has now disappeared and it will be dry. here in the bay area look for clouds near the coast and moving locally across the bay and it will be a mild overnight period with the low to mid-50s and tomorrow with hazy sunshine in the afternoon and we'll see high temperatures reaching from about 60 at the coast to mid and upper 60s around the bay to upper 70s and about 80 degrees in the warmest inland locations and here is the accuweather seven-day forecast. notice mainly sunny days will

departed with proper dispatching information. the problem lasted 40 minutes. passenger lost her luggage in the delay and traited sunscreen wedding shoes and clothes all and the united wedding is in four days and sorry to hear this please the reference claim number and we'll see what we can find out. >> veterinarians at the oakland zoo are treating a california condor for lead poisoning. the bird is named miracle and the firstborn in more than a century. she's underneath there on your screen. she's part of the california condor recovery program. biologists say they found high levels of lead during a routine check and that was a picture of miracle there and miracle will be treated for another week before being released back into the wild. the san francisco giants will be honored at the white house thursday for their 2014 world series victory.
