good wednesday morning, everybody, i'm kanya whitworth. i'm in for reena ninan. >> i'm t.j. holmes. and we start with this terror probe in the boston area, moving in on suspects who may have been planning on attacking police. >> a man radicalized by isis shot and killed by police in boston. what you're looking at right now is new video of david wright's arrest in the nearby town of everett. >> yeah, this comes hours after police shot and killed usaama rahim who authorities said was at the center of the investigation. police pulling the trigger on him after raheem lunged them with this large military knife. rahim had been under 24-hour surveillance by the joint terrorism task force. >> yeah, we have a gentleman, black male, 6 feet, coming out now armed with a knife. >> reporter: shortly after 7:00 tuesday morning,

an fbi agent and a boston police officer approached rahim in a cvs parking lot to question him when he came at the officers with a large, military-style knife. >> he kept retreating, verbally giving commands to drop the weapon, drop the weapon, and at some point, the individual's proximity came close. their lives were in danger. >> reporter: the agent and officer opened fire, hitting him twice. the suspect died with the knife left lying on the ground next to him. the investigation then widen. the police arresting a man nearby everett. rahim had been under surveillance for at least the past 18 months. as part of a federal investigation into homegrown violent extremists. law enforcement officials tell abc news they're investigating whether the 26-year-old had been inspired by isis through its social media campaign. >> it will continue until we're

satisfied that, you know, we have obtained all of the evidence. >> reporter: rahim's brother took to social media claiming his brother was on his way to work when boston police shot him in the back. david wright, the suspect arrested last night is expected to make his first court appearance later today. there are some big changes to laws intended to catch possible terror suspects. last night, president obama signed the freedom act, which eliminates the nsa's bulk collection of telephone records, but it keeps the records in the hands of the phone companies. investigators would need a warrant in order to review the records. sfwlmpbts it's bad weather that's hampering the effort to recover people from the overturned cruise ship in china, more than a dozen bodies have been recovered. at least 14 people have survived, including a 56-year-old woman. the captain was taken into custody, reportedly telling the investigators that the ship sunk within two minutes.

most of the people were in the cabins when the storm hit. some terrifying moments in downtown chicago, a city bus collided with three cars and several people, pinning one woman underneath. witnesses said that the bus was trying to avoid another car. when it careened into a passenger plaza. >> you can hear the sound of the crash. i saw a body extricated from the back of the bus. i also saw the driver extricated from the front of the bus. >> the bus was empty at the time. driver was among seven people injured. some chilling evidence played for jurors in the colorado movie theater massacre trial. it was played of suspect james holmes. jurors are watching hours of conversations that holmes had with the doctor who performed a court-ordered mental evaluation. and at one point, holmes said he called a mental health hot line. moments before his attack thinking someone might talk him out of what he was about to do. his call was disconnected before

anyone answered. holmes had suspicions that the fbi was watching him and he told doctors that the agents might swoop in and stop him. prosecutors aren't expected to finish their case for another three weeks. >> world soccer's governing body is effectively without a leader. as the scandal surrounding it continues to grow. in a shocking move the fifa president sepp blatter has resigned. this just days after being re-elected to that posts. sources telling abc news, blatter was being investigating by the fbi in connection with that bribery scandal that came to light just last week. well, could we see another republican getting into the race? louisiana governor bobby jindal has set a date to announce his plans for 2016. we learned this overnight. he'll share his decision on june 4th, if jindal decides to run he'll join a contested field of republican contenders if for white house. he has served as governor of louisiana since 2008. flooding continues to be a major risk in the southern states, parts of louisiana even

being evacuated and this is what the roads looked like yesterday afternoon in virginia beach, strong winds brought down some tree limbs and caused minor damage to businesses. rain is going to stick around for the rest of the week. a look at the hail, parts of north carolina, residents said it looked more like a winter snowstorm. some new images come out of the florida panhandle. the sheriff's office confirming a lightning strike caused this large brush fire near the water of miramar beach. we want to show you some of the radar, most of the severe weather may be moving out. few showers from georgia to new jersey. the most active area will be in the northern plains where tornadoes and hail are possible. an honor to tell you about now that's long overdue. two world war ii heroes overlooked because of prejudice. johnson was a member of the all-black infantry division.

and if you're flying, airport delays possible in charlotte and denver. now to a terrifying wreck in florida, an amtrak train slices a car in half. >> the passenger train with 171 people onboard crashed into a honda accord, nobody on the train was injured. no cars derailed. investigators are trying to piece this together. three people were in that car, including a pregnant woman. they all suffered minor injuries. >> all that i could think about were my girls. so, i jumped out of my car. when i turned around the back of the car wasn't there. >> the girlfriend and the third passenger were treated at a local hospital. the driver's father said it's a god-sent miracle. police in new mexico searching for a suspect who appears to have attacked a bus driver with pepper spray. the man didn't have exact change for his bus ride and when the driver requested that he get off, this is what he did, he walked around and sprayed the

driver right in the face. police say the suspect will likely face battery charges. >> four people recovering from serious injuries this morning after this roller coaster, it was an accident at a british tourist attraction, the car they were riding in crashed into an empty car that was still standing. it was just there. it took more than four hours to bring everybody in safely. the park closed until investigators figured out what happened here. >> this morning, we're learning more about the young american tourist that was killed by a lion that south african safari spark. she's been identified as katherine chappell. she worked on game of tloens. and the captain america series. park management said that the lion attacked chappell while her car windows were down which is against park rules. the dash cam was rolling. the car is burning. a man is still inside. the officer uses his fire extinguisher, just enough to get

inside and pull the driver out. and got him to safety. the guy who was saved was not seriously injured. and a different kind of rescue overnight, this one in a mountain in phoenix, a 16-year-old girl got lost after getting separated from her friend during a hike last night. she used her cell phone to call 911 saying she couldn't find her way back down on her own. >> it was too dark and i was having an anxiety attack at the same time. >> but your dad was worried about snakes, did you see any critters up there? >> i had scorpions crawling across my foot. >> really? >> they were really creepy and i don't like them. >> wow, firefighters hiked up to the teenager, they led her down the mountain. she was not hurt. adrian peterson is back on the field with the minnesota vikings. he missed most of last season after being charged with felony child abuse. peterson said he's apologized to his young son for hitting him with the wooden switch. and he's learned a lot from his mistake.

crews got it out the red cross is on the scene to help those displaced. no word on any injuries. >> in the east bay antioch police are investigating an accident that sent a teen girl to the hospital with critical injuries. it happened around 9:00 p.m. last night. according toen withs the mercedes sedan she was riding if lost control crashed into a large electrical box near an apartment complex. the girl was thrown through the windshield. she was airlifted to children's in oakland. the driver was detained by police for questioning. >> the pedestrian is fighting major injuries after a police chase resulting in a suspect crashing in san francisco south of market. an all out search is on for the driver. amy hollyfield is at 8th and mission. amy? >> christian a friend of victim tells us he was respondive after he was hit but he has been listed in critical condition. he was hit last night about 10:30 here at 8th and mission and police have started
