ia abc7 starts right now with breaking news. the breaking news is in the north bay in marin county. an apartment fire has displaced 12 people. sky 7 h.d. is over the scene on 10th avenue where crews safely recuse add woman. >> others were safely evacuated. the fire broke out at 9:30. crews recently just contained it. the small stretch of the avenue is closed right new. deputies say a total of 12 apartments are impacted. the red cross is providing aid to those affected. >> thanks for joining us. >> we have more news right now. >> full steam ahead for new market rate housing in a gentry

filed san francisco neighborhood not voting to halt construction despite a huge outcry and turn out at a city hall meeting. >> we are talking about the mission district. a neighborhood with a lot of growth, some that residents are not happy about. they are worried they will be priced out of their own community. >> it was a long night at san francisco city hall. the marathon board of directors meeting lasted nine hours, much of the time spent on public comment. >> i want to wrap this up. >> excuse me? excuse me? >> hundreds sounded off on a proposal for a moratorium on the construction high priced construction of apartments. >> how can you afford up of the new units? it is an insult to us. a joke. >> many long time residents are fed up with skyrocketing rents and a record number of evictions. >> my family has lived in the mission for 70 years and after upon graduating from law school i know that i will not even as a

over. the police are focusing on five primary collision factors including using a cell phone or tempting while driving and that is not allowed and drivers not stopping for pedestrians. >> you are looking at new stop signs being installed today in san francisco on san jose avenue and lake view avenue where a tragic accident happened. a 12-year-old boy was killed by a muni train while running to catch his train to go to school. residents say it is too late for andrew wu but it will help other children crossing and the large number of elderly people living in the neighborhood. >> authorities in san francisco are looking for a suspect who hit a young man while trying to escape from police struck at 10 mock last night at mission street. police are following a robbery suspect car and it took off, hitting the pedestrian, the young man crossing the street. officers chased the blue four door bmw and last sight of it.

for a king after 25 years he as literally declared "king for the day." our reporter, amy hollyfield, is in lafayette, with the story. amy? kristen when we retire we can only hope to be declared "king of the day," or receive something as nice as the dead indication of a rose garden. this was only the going. >> he thought he was here for another school assembly one of many he has attended and cleaned up after in 25 years. but today, juan was surprised to find out he was the gift of honor. >> today we are going to honor a very special person. for you know who that person is? >> juan! >> juan is retiring as the custodian of spring hill elementary. after 25 years behind the scenes today he was front and center. and showered with love.
