live from the kgo broadcast center this is abc 7 news. >> ready for some hoops? >> i'm larry beil. >> i'm ama daetz. you got to see it, the sign for the nba finals. abc 7 is the only place where you can see the warriors take on the cavs. >> game one is just over 24 hours away and inside the arena both teams were talking about the excite am ahead of this matchup and abc 7 news reporter laura anthony getting the plum assignment joining us live from oracle. hi laura. >> reporter: hi larry. lots of excitement and lots of big names in the house and all of them for the first nba finals in oakland in 40 years is about to tip-off here tomorrow night.

the warriors and cavaliers both practiced today and talked to members of the media and cavaliers star lebron james is playing in the first consecutive nba finals and stephan curry spoke about james' larger than life fame. >> he's a normal guy. >> i do normal stuff, i guess. i went to the movies last week and had a regular movie theater and i wanted to go see -- i forgot the name of the movie, but i went to go see. what's the move we the girls and they be singing?" pitch perfect 2 which is unbelievable. >> curry also talked about tuning out distractions and trading tomorrow's big game like any other. >> do whatever you can to get your mind right. i'm going to get a haircut, and i'm going to hang out at the pool at my house and get some

sun and get a good night's rest and be ready for tomorrow. >> a lot of what went on here today was about trying to keep it real. keep it normal and it was pretty hard to do that given there are players from six different countries playing in the finals which means camera crews, news crews from all over the world were here today and one note for fans that might want to come out here and larry and ama there is none and the finals inside the store at oracle and i'm told they will have it tomorrow just in time for game one. live at oracle arena laura anthony, abc 7 news. >> plenty of it. >> incredible prices. >> the nba finals are right here on abc 7 and what better way to catch all of the action than on jimmy kimmel? >> kimmel's sidekick guillermo was at oracle arena and he kind of crashed media day and added humor to the event and he caught up with klay thompson.

i saw some of the video of him with the players. it's really funny stuff and laura will have that coming up on abc 7 news at 6:00. >> a lot of people are making friendly wagers on who will win the nba championship. for nba purposes only. brown made a bet, and if he cleveland should win boxer will send him some of linden street beer and warriors coffee from peet's. as you might have heard abc 7 is the only place where you can see the warriors and cavs in the finals and game one is at oracle and tomorrow night at 6:00, game two and the earlier start is at 5:00 on sunday followed by games three and four next tuesday and thursday in cleveland, and i just got word that there are some high-roller tickets. high roller.

63 and 71 at morgan hill and 59 at half moon bay and here is a view of the golden gate bridge and it's cloudy over the golden gate and currently 78 at santa rosa and petaluma 68 and 78 concord and 68 in livermore and as we look at the clouds over the bay from the rooftop camera and here's our first forecast and we'll see increasing clouds tonight with early morning drizzle likely and a spotty drizzle scattered about the bay area and we'll have sunnier skies and increasing sunshine with a relatively mild day and over the bay and inland and we'll see temperatures into the 80s and it will be relatively cool at the coast with highs 58 to 60. i'll show you what's coming after tomorrow's drizzle for the weekend in just a moment. larry and ama? >> thank you, spencer. >> now to sky 7 hd moments after a fire erupted at a complex on kent avenue and one man had to jump from a bedroom window and a

woman had to be rescued from a balcony. abc 7 news reporter lyanne melendez is live with the details. lyanne? >> reporter: i can tell you this fire spread very quickly from one side of the building to the other side and arson investigators are on the scene and that is normal and route each, if you will the american red cross says that eight people who could not stay inside their apartment are now being housed. they're staying overnight at local hotels. lorne had a huge bruise on his cheek after he was forced to jump out his bedroom window after he escaped the fire. >> i just opened the door to the living room and there was smoke. i couldn't see anything and i grabbed my pants and there was a window. >> he landed on his hands and knees hitting his face on the pavement. patricia said the fire spread so quickly there was little time to react. >> when i tried to open the door the smoke just billowed in and i

could already feel the heat underneath my feet. >> reporter: she was taken to the hospital to be checked. greg brown shared these pictures with us and it showed firefighters trying to contain the blaze. one neighbor had to be rescued from the balcony because the stairwell was full of smoke and flames. this dog was alone in the house when the firefighters found it. its owner was at work. his apartment was the only con completely destroyed while the others were somewhat affected. >> i think there are 12 to 14 units in the building and right now we have 12 to 14 units of displaced residents so kent was escorted inside his unit to retrieve valuables. a chain smoker, he went for his cigarettes. that wasn't the only thing he got. my cash. my cash. i have $5,000 cash that's left. i have nothing to hide you know? >> reporter: he says he has a son he can stay with. others have friends that can put them up for now. it's unknown how the fire

started. in kentfield lyanne melendez abc 7 news. >> sky 7 hd was in mill valley today shortly after a tree started to give way and leaned up against some power lines. authorities closed west blythe at buena vista and el ridge just in days and no power outages were reported. drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in an accident that sent a teenage girl to the hospital with critical injuries and she was hit in gentry town around 9:00 last month and the driver lost control hitting a 14-year-old girl in the street. she was airlifted to children's hospital oakland. police say the driver stayed and is cooperating with the investigation. >> we are learning this afternoon that san francisco police attempted to pull over a suspected robber moments before he sped off last night and hit a pedestrian. the chase began at mission and 8th around 10:30 last night. the pedestrian is in serious and stable condition.

officers lost track of the robbery suspect on the bay bridge. >> you're looking at new stop signs installed today in san francisco and san jose avenue and lakeview avenues where a tragic accident happened last month. a 12-year-old boy was killed while running to catch his train for school. community residents say it's too late for andrew, but the signs will help other children crossing the streets and the large number of elderly people living in the neighborhood. it's full steam ahead for the new market rate housing and the gentrifying of a san francisco neighborhood. they halted construction despite a huge public turnout at a city hall meeting. >> elissa harrington has the story. >> reporter: the marathon board of directors lasting nine hours and much of the time spent on public comment. >> i want to wrap this up. >> excuse me! excuse me! >> hundreds came to sound off on a proposal for a moratorium on

covering santa rosa, berkeley, san jose and all the bay area. this is abc 7 news. >> a suspected terrorist was in federal court today after authorities said he expressed a desire to stab or behead officers in the name of isis. abc news reporter marcy gonzalez how the man is believed to be linked to another suspected terrorist in boston yesterday.

>> reporter: david wright wanted to take up the isis call to kill members of law enforcement faced a judge in boston. police believe he conspired with the terror suspect killed by officers udz of the cvs in boston yesterday. >> shots fired. unit, shots fired. >> usaama rahim was on a round the clock surveillance. officers wanted to question him after he reportedly talked about wanting to stab or behead officers. when task force members approached him in this parking lot around 7:15 yesterday morning boston police said he came at them with this military-style knife. the officers reportedly backed up ordering rahim to drop the weapon. police say when he refused and got dangerously close he was shot three times. today surveillance video of the deadly confrontation was shown to community and religious leaders in boston. >> that dispels some of the rumors and some of the tensions that might build. >> reporter: those who watched it including this imam who knew

rahim said the video disproves claims made by rahim's brother on social media that the 26-year-old was on the phone with his father heading to work and being shot in the back. still the video leaves questions. >> he wasn't shot in the back and there's no detail enough clear on the video to tell us exactly what happened. >> and boston police say the video will be made public once rahim's family views it. marcy gonzalez abc news new york. >> a group just returned after helping nepal to recover in the earthquake. the sfo disaster response team saw their families for the first time in almost a month. reporter sergio quintana was also there to greet them. he joined them in nepal for part of the mission. the group was helping survivors when an aftershock hit on may

12th. >> we were treating 200 patients before the quake. we hadn't into search and rescue and pulled one from the slide and dug for others. the cdrt team treated more than 1200 injured nepalese during their mission. >> many people call the old bay bridge ugly. soon, they might call it a work of art. the old museum of california is getting 450 tons of steel from the bridge demolition and offering it up to artists. the steel can be used for anything from public art to the facade of the building and it has to include the legacy of the historic span. the open museum is accepting applications after october 1st. google is refusing to release accident reports involving the self-driving cars, citing privacy issues. the company's co-founder sergey brin says it's to protect the other drivers involved in the crashes. brin says the total number of accidents now stands at 12 after a google self-driving car was

rear ended within the past week. google says its self-driving cars was involved in only one of those accidents. google is celebrating the fifth birthday tonight. the ceo will give a special address to employees over a couple of hours. abc 7 news reporter jonathan bloom talked with one of uber's first drivers and we'll have more on the company's big day coming up at 6:00. facebook chief operating officer cheryl sandberg is marking the end of the jewish mourning period following the death of her husband. the executive lost her husband dave goldberg in a treadmill accident while on vacation in mexico a month ago. sandberg took to facebook page to share her emotions and thoughts. she writes, the bravery of those who shared their own experiences have helped pull me through. she intends to choose life and meaning. caitlyn jenner is a hot commodity especially among cosmetics companies. jenner's appearance on the july

cover of "vanity fair" has piqued the interest of fashion and beauty brands that want her as the face of the beauty companies. it started prior to the cover reveal. according to "page six" mac has met with genero several occasions. >> perhaps drizzle tomorrow and i wonder if it will affect anybody heading into the nba finals. >> good question, larry. the drizzle we're expecting will be in the morning hours, and i doubt very seriously that late in the afternoon and early evening as people are heading toward the coliseum will see drizzle around. we'll show you what we have at this moment. lots of clouds at various levels of the atmosphere and it is brisk and breezy right now at least where i'm standing on the roof and here's a look at wind gusts right now, 28 miles per hour at fairfield and 26 at sfo and 29 mile per hour and gusts are pretty brisk and a live view from mount tam looking out over the clouds at various levels of the atmosphere looking down

toward the coastline and these are forecast features and we'll see cloudy conditions tonight with morning drizzle and it will be warming up this weekend and by early next week we'll see temperatures at inland locations at or above 90 degrees. the bay area is still in the path of a couple of weak disturbances and here comes our next one and the one producing clouds right now and may bring us some drizzle overnight and let's start the forecast animation this evening and clouds will continue pushing into the area overnight and by 5:00 tomorrow morning and spots of drizzle would have developed and areas of drizzle i should say and some wet spots for the morning commute. later in the day notice we'll see some clouds lingering and drizzle will be gone by mid-afternoon and we may see an outbreak of isolated thunderstorms north of the bay area up north between cloverdale and ukaya and we'll keep a watch on what's developing there. down in the tropical pacific hurricane andres is a tropical storm and continues to weaken,

but hurricane blanca has strengthened to a powerful category 4 hurricane and it's forecast to become a category 5 by tomorrow afternoon as it moves closer to the west coast of mexico and by sunday to monday may make landfall north of cabo san lucas somewhere in baja california and that could be a powerful and dangerous storm in the region with the potential to produce flooding and it doesn't appear it will work its way into california and we expect dry conditions here. overnight, look for temperatures and mainly sunny by the afternoon and there may be thunderstorms, and isolated thunderstorms to our north and the accuweather seven-day forecast shows a warming trend by the weekend and by early next week we'll see highs inland hitting 90 degrees. larry and ama? >> thank you spencer. still ahead on abc 7 news, call it a half-ton problem. the all-out effort to save this bull stuck in a well.

there were some tense moments this afternoon after a stuck 1,000-pound bull charged a rescuer in atlanta. it fell through rotted wood covering in fulton county. no one was hurt during the lengthy rescue process. >> don't make the bull mad. >> don't do that. a young bear is back in the wild nine months after being badly injured in a wildfire in washington state. wild life experts transported the 244-pound cub named cinder to the cascade. she was found last august with badly burned paws that left her unable to walk and let alone norraged for food and she was taken to the wild life center where she was nursed back to health. she was in idaho along with another cub. >> i don't know what the outcome's going to be but we'll give her the best chance possible and that's on our end.

we're putting her in a great spot that she'll make a heck of a living. >> the bears were fitted with specially-equipped collars and will be released today. american pharaoh the saturday's belmont stakes. trainer bob baffert says he's pleased. american pharaoh is trying to become the 12th horse in history to win the triple crown and the first was in 1978. many have tried and few have been able to accomplish it. the director of the controversial movie "aloha" is now apologizing. cameron crowe has been highly criticized for casting white actress emma stone as a pilot who is cast as a quarter asian and a quarter hawaiian. he said stone's character wassic tended to be a woman proud to be part hawaiian, but frustrated that she did not look the part.

county firefighters contained the flames within 45 minutes and no one was seriously hurt. in san jose dog owners are concerned over possible poisoned pet food left on the three creeks trail in the willow glen neighborhood. abc 7 news reporter david louie will have a live report coming up at 5:00. tomorrow game one of the nba finals ready to celebrate their first nba title in 40 years. carolyn tyler tweeted out this photo in oakland's everett jones and they're showing their warriors pride there and she'll have more on oakland's national spotlight on abc 7 news at 5:00. >> changes are coming to a busy intersection at menlo park. it killed and hit a woman. abc 7 news reporter chris nguyen in menlo park with how this is going to affect commuters going forward. chris? >> larry, good afternoon. crews had begun the installation of a temporary median barrier. if you take a look behind me and as we zoom in you can see the

progress that's been made here at the intersection of alma and ravenswood. city engineers hope to have it completely done by the end of the week and that these changes will result in fewer accidents. it's one of the city's busiest intersections. at alma and ravenswood drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians all trying to make it through without getting hit. >> that's a bit scary because cars, they're going pretty fast and no one really wants to stop. they're all kind of trying to get off the tracks. these tracks adjacent to the intersection where a woman lost her life last february after getting her vehicle struck by a bument train. >> i've had circumstances in the past where a car sees me last minute and stops. so it's always felt quite precareius. as part of a six-month test, crews spent the afternoon installing a temporary median barrier and drivers will not be able to turn right or left at alma. >> it's important that we have

data to back our decision anies this is the first step in improving the corridor. >> officials say they'll compare collision rates and near accidents at the intersection and the rail crossing before and after the test. a 24/7 camera will also be installed at the crossing to monitor how often vehicles get stuck on the track. the results will then determine you on much the barrier saves. if it saves one person's life it could be worth it. >> it could be you or someone you love and it's really tragic and i'm glad that they're finally taking precautions to deal with it. >> city officials will be taking public feedbook through the end of the year. in menlo park, chris nguyen abc 7 news. >> at least three people were killed today in a head-on collision between a big rig and charter bus on interstate 380 near the pocono mountains in pennsylvania. a dozen people, all tourists from italy were trapped on the bus and they were injured. the accident closed the freeway

for hours and the bus was bound for niagara falls. traffic is back to normal on northbound highway 99 after a nasty big rig accident. the truck drove off an embankment just before 1:00 this morning at the overcrossing and slid down the highway. the trailer would dump out a variety of household items including tabasco sauce. the driver suffered minor injures and investigators believe he might have fallen asleep. teachers have a contract following a year and a half of negotiations. it includes a salary increase. the union was not successful in getting a hard cap on the number of special ed students assigned to the teacher. we should know the results of a vote later tonight. >> a native american in high school will be able to wear a feather to his graduation after the school reversed an earlier decision. christian titman argued the clovis high school's rule against cultural or religious

adornment violated his civil rights. the eagle feathers are a sacred symbol of accomplishment. new details about the anthrax situation, the problem of unintended shipments of potentially live acts racks spores is worse than initially thought. twice as many spores were shipped at least one vial was open. karen travers has the latest. >> the pentagon reported that the live anthrax that was accidentally shipped around the country and overseas was a far bigger problem than first believed. >> 51 laboratories in states, one in the district fof columbia and three foreign countries. we expect this number will rise. >> reporter: the pentagon insists this potentially deadly mistake poses no risk to the general public. >> these concentrations are so low that they would be below the level that we would expect to cause any infection.

>> reporter: this was in utah last march when a batch of acts racks was treated to kill live spores but some survived. >> those sterility tests did not detect the presence of live anthrax. we need to know why. >> reporter: over the next year shipments of that batch thought to be safe were sent to locations around the country via fedex. one vial that was sent from the pentagon to the lab at stanford was opened last summer. >> the centers for disease control has let us know that even if there were to be spores in the sample they would be at a very very minute level. >> in south korea, nearly two dozen american military personnel started taking antibiotics last week after a possible exposure to potentially deadly anthrax spores. there they also unknowingly used live acts racks in a training exercise late last month. the pentagon says for now nobody has shown signs of sickness at the bases overseas or in the u.s. karen travers, abc news, washington. a maryland woman is dead

after receiving an injection designed to enlarge her derriere and police are trying to track down the person who gave it to her. kelly mahu stopped breathing after receiving a silicone injection and this was done in the basement of a queens new york, home. her mother was there during the procedure and the woman who administered injections ran off at the first sign of trouble. neighbors are done. >> find a right place to have it done. deal with a professional you still go into the setting where if anything happens something like this, you lose your life over. >> new york police say there is no indication the woman who gave the shots had any kind of license to administer that injection. yet another republican is poised on enter the 2016 presidential race. louisiana governor bobby jindal will announce his decision on june 24th. he issued a statement today saying in he does run his campaign will be based on the idea that the american people are ready to try a dramatically

some incredible video from indiana today showing the small plane that crashed into a barn. it happened this morning in tipton county, that's outside of indianapolis. investigators say the pilot lost control of the crop duster-type plane and plowed right into the barn along a county road in tipton county. the pilot's okay and so is everybody on the ground, believe it or not. you walk away from that. >> let's look at the weather. it's still cloudy and gloomy

outside. >> it is gray and gloomy and it may be damp tomorrow night as overnight a chance of drizzle materializes. you can see just how cloudy it is across the bay area right now. let's take a look at how things are shaping up tomorrow. we'll see some thunderstorm activity along the mid atlantic coast and some thunderstorms scattered across the north central states from the dakotas and across northern minnesota to northern michigan and in the interior west and maybe a few scattered showers in the intermountain regions and it will be hot in the desert southwest and across california tomorrow and maybe some showers and thunderstorms, too possibly north of the bay area and over the sierra. sunny and warm for the most part in southern california and in the bay area we'll have mixed conditions tomorrow after morning drizzle. we'll have lingering clouds into the afternoon hours and high temperatures range from 60 on the coast to low 80s in the mildest inland locations and for the week ahead we're using livermore as the temperature trend indicator and temperatures will rise in livermore and by

santa clara, san francisco and all the bay area this is abc 7 news. in health news today google is getting ready to give people who love to instagram pictures of their food a reality check. >> another major food company is moving toward natural ingredients. jane king has more in today's wellness report. >> nestle is dropping hot pockets and it aims to cut sodium by 10% and says taste will not be affected.

changes take place by the end of this year. bad news for those of us who love posting food on instagram. it uses artificial intelligence to tell you how many calories are in that photo and that's according to a report of popular science. it's called im2 calories and it may make us think twice about cleaning our plates. amelia young has written a protest song against starbucks and she's taking aim at the coffee company and monsanto. starbucks filed a lawsuit against vermont anti-gmo law. it does not support the lawsuit and denies aligning itself with monsanto monsanto. losing your sense of smell may be a sign your number is up. the people with the poorest sense of smell are twice as likely to die within the next four years. they surmise a failing sense of smell may be a sign of a more serious problem and it could also leave people in more

out the trash? not a problem. a san francisco company will do it for you. the new service is called trash day. the night before trash collection day an employee will come to your house and put the trash cans out on the curb for you. after the garbage is picked up and they come back the next day and return the cans to your home. right now this service is only available in partses of san francisco including castro and mission district and the plans start out at $32 a month based on how many cans you have to put out. an east bay school custodian received a retirement fit for a king today. after 25 years he was literally declared king for the day. amy hollyfield brings us the story from lafayette. >> reporter: he thought he was here for just another school assembly assembly, one of many he's attended and cleaned up after in 25 years, but today quan nguyen was surprised to find out he was the guest of honor.

>> today we're going to honor a very special person. do you know who that person is? >> quan! >> quan is retiring as the custodian of springhill element elementary elementary. after 25 years behind the scene, today he was front and center and showered with love. >> he always has a smile on his face which makes -- which makes all of us students happy to be here. >> the tributes were heartfelt and numerous. quan smiled with his wife by his side as students teachers spoke about him and they had a song about him. the principal crowned him king for the day, but the real surprise was saved to the end. they presented him with a huge check from parent donations. >> this is $10,000 cash! ♪ >> we asked him after the ceremony what he will do with
