thank you for joining us. the glitter allure of fame and fortune. one teenager clicked on an ad that simply said hot girls wanted but found herself like countless other young women inside of what he she says was a dark sinister world of porn. here's abc's rebecca jarvis. >> reporter: at first glance it may look like a slumber party. in reality it is a sorority of a different kind. >> you guys are teeny boppers. you get the young shoots because you are really young looking. >> reporter: they are among the thousands naive, fresh faced 18 to 20-year-olds plucked from small towns at the click of a mouse. >> free flight to miami. that will grab attention. >> reporter: to come to miami to take part in a new growing part of the porn industry. >> i locked everything in my car. >> reporter: so-called amateur porn. >> amateur porn world. you are just processed meat.

>> reporter: girls like carly brought up in a generation that porn seems to be everywhere. >> people on porn having sex and nothing going wrong and everybody's happy. it's really confusing. >> reporter: and this girl who is worried her family in a small town may find out what she is doing. >> i have this weird feeling my mom knows. >> reporter: rachel seems like your typical girl next door from rural, illinois. not long ago you could catch her playing the clarinet in the high school band a self described nerd from a religious family. >> i was like an introvert. i wasn't popular. >> reporter: youthful, innocent naive, just what porn consumers apparently crave. >> i had sex with two people before i went and did porn. >> reporter: according to the kenzie institute, one of the few research institutes that study the adult film industry, teen is the most searched word on porn sites. >> a lot of them look like the

girl next door. all of these sites that say watch real girls, like real 18-year-olds get naked for the first time. a lot of that is in fact what is happening. >> it is all about the guy getting off. >> reporter: in their new documentary "hot girls wanted" film makers spent months following rachel and other teen girls capturing the risks and harsh realities of amateur porn work. >> there's an influx of girls trying to do porn. a lot of them know it's a trap but the money in their face right now, cash. they take it and hope for the best. >> reporter: the allure for some money for college, but for just about every girl a chance at fame. >> i just wanted to be famous. >> famous like julia roberts famous? >> no like kim kardashian famous. >> reporter: the hunt for these unsuspecting girls is alarmingly simple. it begins with a craigslist

post, hot girls wanted a modeling job you get paid and free airfare. >> they e-mailed me and said it was adult entertainment. you can get 2,000, $3,000 for going there once. >> i thought i was going to go there and do one or two and come back. >> reporter: for rachel it was a way out fast. >> i'm sure there were other options but they weren't quick enough options. >> reporter: it is rachel's first plane ride ever and landed her in miami in a life she hadn't imagined. >> i'm like oh god, i'm actually doing this. are you kidding me? what's egogoing on? i was in the backseat and someone was driving the car. >> he says he has been doing this three years but unlike other agents said he actually cares about his girls. >> he didn't give you time to think it through. >> no. i think that was a good strategy for him because if i would have had time to think it through i

probably wouldn't have gone. >> it looks innocent and all. >> reporter: she chooses a porn name ava taylor and takes the irreversible step on a website called reality kings.com going in to the first time that was going through your head? >> too much. i was freaking out. >> ava. >> that's it. >> what's up ava? >> nothing, just chillin'. >> reporter: he starts to make $1,000 a shoot. at first reveling in her newfound freedom. >> i have done so much here. penthouse, lamborghinis, did all the [ bleep ] i ever wanted to do. i'm trying to be famous. you have to do what you have to do. >> reporter: the money comes at a price. the girls pay for rent, lingerie and makeup. most girls shelf life is a few months. rachel lasted six. making 85 videos, raking in $80,000 but she said she went home with just $2,000. >> it's not like you are

actually making $80,000. you are really just surviving. >> what does the agent take? >> 15%. >> reporter: also the physical toll. >> it is horrible because no one is meant to have sex that long or that vigorously or you know that intensely for that many days in a row and with different people. >> a lot of porn is like that. you are like this is so just work right now. watching it from this point of view now, i can just tell that i really didn't want to be there. i was like mad during this. i can see it on my face. >> reporter: the real winners, the porn sites, which get more traffic each month than netflix, amazon and twitter combined. the top three pro-am chur sites are now worth an estimated $50 million. >> these banner ads just pop up for these websites called 18 and abused. they are saying come to our site

so you can watch us. you know -- >> reporter: harm somebody. >> right. >> reporter: new dpirls are often paid to do abuse porn which gets 60 million hits a month. it shows girls performing obscene acts that can cause them to vomit or bleed. >> it's horrific. somehow it's legal. a lot of young girls do end up doing that as their first scene. >> reporter: the only federal regulation is that porn actors be 18. rachel never told her parents, but they found out. >> i knew i couldn't come back here. i'm just a burned out porn star and i'm like that can't happen. i'm just going to have to do this until i find something else to do. and then i kind of did. i found my camera and that saved my life. because i had nothing. i had nothing to live for. it was really sad. i seriously thought i had no talents but taking off my

>> reporter: so what's a pro surfer to do after he captures the guinness world record for riding the biggest wave ever chase another of course. tonight alexander marquardt joins garrett mcnamara for his hunt for the holy grail a perfect wave he calls big mama. ♪ >> reporter: it can only be described as a moving mountain of water. that tiny speck flying down the face of a monstrous peak is a

man garrett mcnamara. defying the sea gods as he surfs his way to the record books. >> the ocean is our church and our playground and thank god it's my office as well. ♪ >> reporter: garrett mcnamara is one of the most ole's most celebrated surfer a sport in which 20-foot waves are the minimum price of entry. outside of the surfing community he was a virtual unknown until photos of his extraordinary feat started to rocket around the world, including this 78-foot guinness world record. at 47 years old, most professional athletes may consider retiring at the top of such a dangerous game, but this daredevil hawaiian is still pushing the envelope. chasing one final prize, to surf the perfect wave. >> what's that wave look like in your head? >> when it comes, you'll see it. >> reporter: you have given it a name? >> big mama is out there.

she's looming out there in the deep. >> reporter: it is an obsession that sends him to the ends of the earth chasing the elusivive beast. this is where he's convinced he will find her. off the coast of a sleepy village in portugal. we are there as a nasty storm promises to produce one of the biggest swells garrett mcnamara has ever seen. one more chance to make history. at this point in your career do you still get nervous? >> i never get nervous, just excited. >> reporter: he has found a place that regularly produces record-breaking sets. a phenomenon fuelled by a massive underwater canyon just off shore that powers the swells from three miles deep. for generations, fishermen were practically the only souls willing to brave the dangerous surf. >> the waves. >> did you grow up fearing the

waves? >> no. respect. >> reporter: once garrett mcnamara started to make headlines here the fearless followed him transforming this town in to a world-class surfing destination. unforgiving swells an the world have drowned fellow big wave surfers. two years ago, rising star was nearly killed by an 80-foot monster. >> sit up. >> reporter: these days those deadly risks weigh heavier on garrett mcnamara because he and his wife nicole had a son who they named barrel after the hollowed tube of a perfect breaking wave. we wanted to gate sense of the rush that has driven him for so many years despite the danger. >>ing to ride a wave. >> reporter: he invited me on a ride. >> heading through these waves to the beach now to get a sense of how big they are. >> you have to hold on tight.

>> avalanche water. that's awesome. >> swimming in. >> reporter: we go over before the answer comes. it is shallow but nearly impossible to stand or swim in the overpowering current. >> very difficult to get up. can only imagine what happens when you fall off one of those big guys. it's dawn on the morning of the big swell. back at the harbor garrett mcnamara and his team dart around. making their final preparations. >> yeah. got a couple of different surfers, their support teams everyone getting geared up. >> reporter: including film crews from around the world. this american team from the go

big project has been following garrett mcnamara for months. >> garrett said you have to have the pov angle. >> reporter: how many angles? >> oh gosh in total? >> yeah. >> ten. >> reporter: the rising sun reveals a violent tangle of cascading surf. word has spread hundreds gather for the show. garrett mcnamara suits up layering protective padding and an inflatable vest. >> you are going to sit out there waiting for the perfect wave to form? >> you have to hunt. >> reporter: as garrett gets in the zone, it's not the peril but the prize he's focused on. his support team three fellow surfers who will alternate towing each other in to the waves on jet skis and respond immediately if anyone gets in to trouble. up on the light house, nicole plays coach, coordinating safety

while directing her husband in to the belly of the biggest sets. >> you have a couple more waves but more north of you. >> reporter: the hunt is on for big mama. at first, a promising wave. but garrett mcnamara loses control. >> i turned a little too hard. >> reporter: there are a dozen other surfers in the water but none with the same level of support. >> this is the fear. if you take a wave straight off the light house here, too close to shore you will end up on those rocks. once you are sucked in there it would be impossible to get out. >> garrett, somebody is getting really problem. >> there is a ski down and a guy in the water. they definitely need help. >> reporter: a routine wipeout leaves two more surfers caught in the washing machine current. garrett is trying to save two guys that are a couple of feet
