making news in america this morning -- breaking overnight. powerful storms an incredible scene. the damage tornadoes left behind. record rain and flooding in some areas. we're tracking the severe weather on the move right now. security breach. a massive cyberattack, giving hackers to access to information for millions of americans. how it was discovered and who is behind it? we're live with the latest in washington. fighting with fire. mayhem on a city street. rival gangs using fireworks as weapons. and game one of the nba finals going into overtime. and the shoeless three-pointer.

>> if you don't have a sneaker on and you shoot -- and hello to you all on this friday morning, thank you for spending time with us. i'm t.j. holmes. >> and i'm kayna whitworth in for reena ninan. we begin with wild weather tearing across colorado. triggering one tornado after another. >> that is a huge tornado. i can honestly say -- >> yeah, we're talking as many as seven twisters have touched down since yesterday afternoon. this massive one on the ground for two minutes near denver. one storm chaser getting so close, look what happened. the truck was damaged. glass blown right off. heavy rain, pelting hail continued until the early morning hours. >> the powerful winds damaged dozens of homes. tore apart barns. crushed cars. many people forced to spend the night without power. >> flood warnings up around kansas city, where water was taken off many of the roadways, making travel dangerous. even as a big truck was swept away. the driver making it out just in time.

let's get some more of what's in store today. we turn to justin povick for more. >> thank you and good morning. high pressure building into the or not plains and the upper midwest. we're stuck in a bad pattern over the central plains. northern kansas, nebraska, back into colorado and wyoming. it's from casper to denver that we have been dodging the severe thunderstorms in the past two days. make it three. we'll likely have another round later on this afternoon. that will enhance the flood potential later on this weekend from omaha to kansas city. t.j. and kayna, back to you. so the other major story that we're following now this morning is a security breach affecting millions of federal workers. >> their personal information, including social security numbers, may now be in the hands of chinese hackers. bazi kanani joining us from washington with the latest. we're talking about major breach here. >> reporter: absolutely. good morning, t.j. good morning, kayna. the largest breach of federal employee data so far. millions being warned to watch their credit closely.

the intent of the cyberattack is still unclear this morning. the hackers have access to the sensitive personal information of up to 4 million current and former government employees, which analysts say could be used for financial fraud or worse, for espionage. officials tell abc news it's believed the hackers work for china. the massive breach discovered in april by security experts at the government cybercommand center. the hackers targeted the computer systems of the office of personnel management. they conduct the background checks on all federal employees. it's the only latest cyberattack by those working for foreign governments on america's government agencies and major corporations. >> these cyberthreats are a challenge to our national security. >> reporter: earlier this year, president obama convened a summit with the nation's top tech executives, signing an executive order to set up

hubs where private companies and the government can work together on cybersecurity threats. this morning, it's not known how long the hackers had access to the personnel files. it appears to be a second attempt. the same agency targeted by chinese hackers just one year ago. just last week, we learned the ir sx had been compromised. last fall, state department and white house networks were attacked by hackers believed to be from russia. this time, the millions of government employees are being offered credit monitoring and identity theft insurance. t.j.? kayna? >> bazi kanani. life for us in washington. thank you, as always. we turn to the family of the man suspected of plotting attacks on police in boston. they're calling for a complete and transparent investigation into his death. it's believed the family has seen a video of tuesday's confrontation where 26-year-old

usaamah rahim was shot and killed. his attorney says there is no indication that he has been radicalized. >> that comes as an absolute surprise to the family. they had not perceived a change in conduct or demeanor. >> the family is not making a substantive claim about what happened on tuesday. authorities believe rahim may have been radicalized through social media. now to a rough emergency landing in philadelphia. a private jet forced to touch down with its nose gear broken. the plane skidded to a stop on the tarmac last night. you can see there, it was doused with foam as a precaution. the five people on board were not injured. the jet was headed from new mexico to new jersey. no word on what caused that problem. new details about the man who jumped the white house fence and made it all the way inside. apparently he had an arsenal of weapons. agents found

weapons in his car. virginia police found weapons in his car in a traffic stop two months earlier. prosecutors are recommending a 21-month sentence. james holmes did not suffer a psychotic break before the attack, that is among the conclusions of a doctor who interviewed holmes for 22 hours. the doctor testified that holmes had the capacity to plan and carry out the shootings and consider an escape route. the prosecution is trying to show that holmes was not insane when he killed 12 people inside that movie theater. and the man convicted in the murder of washington intern chandra levy is getting a new trial. the defense team made the request because they say a key witness gave false or misleading testament. she went missing in 2001. the case became a national sensation when a romance with then congressman gary condit was revealed. he was ultimately ruled out as a suspect. a popular southern california beach remains closed this morning. the latest stretch of coastline

plagued by those tar balls. workers have cleaned up more than 55 gallons of what they're saying is oily goo from a four-mile section of long beach. last month's oil spill in santa barbara, 100 miles away is a suspected source. test results could take weeks. beau biden is being remembered in his home state of delaware. hundreds of mourners gathered at the state capitol to join the memorial service. president obama delivers the eulogy at biden's funeral tomorrow. rick perry joined the crowded republican presidential race. perry promised supporters he would end an era of failed leadership. this is perry's second try. he stumbled badly the last time around after several gaffes. in ten days, former florida governor jeb bush is expected to announce he's running. that field gets more crowded by the second. still ahead here, the so-called viagra for women one step closer to being available.

also happening now, climbers stranded on a mountain after a powerful earthquake hits the area. new images coming in overnight. and three separate shootings. just 15 miles apart.

trapped near the mountain's summit. they were being flown down by helicopter. another crucial report on the health of the economy comes out in a few hours. the may jobs report. the may number is expected to be in line with april's robust 223,000 jobs created. that would leave the unemployment rate at 5.4%, a seven-year low. and subway is joining a grows list of restaurants dropping artificial ingredients. they're phasing out colors preservatives over the next 18 months. that affects their soups, their cookies. panera bread, pizza hut, and taco bell have also announced plans to get rid of those artificial ingredients as well. today is a national holiday. national doughnut day. also known as the best free food holiday of the year. >> so serious. >> a very serious story. dunkin' donuts offering a free

and killed while taking a late-night walk in his quiet neighborhood wednesday in the city of loveland. police not ruling out the connection to two earlier shootings. a bicyclist killed last month. and a woman shot in the neck while driving on the interstate. all three attacks in a 15-mile radius. >> there are enough likenesses that we reached out to the task force. we don't know if this is related to the other shootings. we don't know if there is somebody or somebodies that are inflicting these crimes in the community. >> fbi is offering a $10,000 reward for information. residents are being advised to walk and drive in pairs. an advisory panel has approved a medication that is so called the female viagra. a drug suggested to improve sexual desire for women. the fda has rejected this drug twice since 2010. because of side effects.

there could be horse racing history made tomorrow. that is when american pharoah and seven other horses will run the belmont stakes. if if american pharoah wins it would be the first triple crown win since 1978. we have had a lot of disappointments in the past. we want to see the history. as for last night, game one. i'm john anderson. we had to wait more than a week. finally, we got around to basketball. game one of the nba finals between cleveland and gold. state. lebron james, leader of the cavs. steph curry, in charge of the home team, the warriors. and also the mvp. james buries it. tied at 98-98. curry's got the layup. no. kyrie irving comes and saves the day. we go to overtime. cavs down four. irving. here we go. down awkwardly. he used the whole week to get well.
