live from the kgo tv broadcast center, this is abc 7 news. good afternoon. thank you for joining us on this friday. i'm ama daetz. >> i'm larry beil. first at 4:00, sky 7 hd show the man they say kidnapped a 3-year-old child and tried to get away on a public bus. there was a happy ending though. the child is safe and the accused abductor was caught at the fremont bart station. it all started at the milpitas library where police say the child was taken. abc 7 news reporter chris nguyen is live in milpitas how team work led to the 3-year-old being found. chris? >> ama and larry that boy is back with his mom this afternoon. they union happened here at the police department just a few hours ago. police telling us it was the quick thinking of a bus driver that made all the difference. here is a picture of the

suspect. this is 23-year-old alfonso david eddington of pittsburgh. police telling us it does not appear the suspect knew the victim. as we take a look at video from sky 7 hd and this was the scene at the fremont bart station just before noon as the police took the suspect into custody. milpitas who was at the public library on north main street with his mom. police tell us the abduction happened at 10:30 this morning. police notified regional law enforcement agencies as well as public transit officials. a bus driver recognized the suspect and the victim that was traveling on his bus and tipped off police. police are now looking into the background of the suspect. >> we need to find out his history. we need to find out his motivation and why he was in town and why he was at our public library and all of those questions will be answered at some point, hopefully. >> reporter: the chief telling us that the suspect and the

victim were traveling on the bus to the fremont bart station where the boy was safely recovered. the chief said thank the lord that the boy was safely recovered. he told us the victim's mother was emotional and grateful for the outcome. back here live police tell us the suspect has not been charged with a crime. he is currently being interviewed by detectives. we are live in milpitas. i'm chris nguyen, abc 7 news. >> we have breaking news from the peninsula. one person is dead after being killed by the atherton station. cal train official say the person was trespassing on the tracks and this was just before 3:00 before being hit by the train which was northbound and no passengers on that train was injured and it is running between menlo park while investigators collect evidence and this is cal trains' 12th fatality this year. >> all right, turning to air warriors this afternoon and just one down, three to go for the warriors and following last night's win in game one at the

camera under an otherwise blue sky and 86 in fairfield and 83 concord and 85 in livermore and here is a view from mount tam and the first forecast coastal low clouds will continue to spread and it will be breezy overnight and we'll have gray areas of the early morning hours, but it will be blue and bright tomorrow afternoon with high temperatures getting back into the mid-80s inland and we have 90s coming your way and i'll show you when and where. larry and ama? >> the death of a 13 month old girl pulled unconscious from a concord family pool last night appears to be an accident. concord police say the girl somehow got into the backyard of the home of ridgemont lane and fell into the pool. the mother who was home at the time had not realized that the daughter had exited the house. she and a neighbor performed cpr on the child before officers arrived. >> the cdc says kids between 1 and 4 are at the highest risk

for drowning. they recommend self-closing fences around pools as well as pool alarms when anything hits the water. if you want more tip goes to abc 7 news.com for a link. >> the sister of one of the alleged sexual abuse victims of dennis hastert is speaking exclusively to abc news. >> hastert faces charges of bank fraud and lying to the fbi. brian roth has more on the allegations made in her brother's name against the former speaker of the house. >> reporter: in steve reinboldt's high school yearbook, wrestling coach dennis hastert wrote, reinboldt was his great righthand man as equipment manager for the team but at the same time he also became a victim of hastert. according to reinboldt's sister jolene. >> he damaged steve more than any of us will ever know. >> reporter: speaking publicly for the first time reinboldt's sister shared that her brother

hackers breached the computers of the federal office of personnel management the agency that conducts all the background checks for federal employees. >> supposedly the bridge was discovered? april and the belief is that it actually occurred months prior. the personal data including social security numbers of at least 4 million current and former federal employees have been compromised. >> there is a real concern about anyone actually having this level of information about both present and former federal employees. >> anyone could be the chinese. >> the initial read that is coming from the chinese. the question is is it state sponsored or a private entity or hackers? regardless of who it is and regardless of what the ultimate aim s the administration takes this very seriously and recognizes it as a threat to our national security. >> coming on the heels of cyber attacks on the white house, the irs and the credit cards have tens of millions of shoppers.

hackers appear to find new ways to get around constantly changing cybersecurity protection. >> you have people literally millions of people around the world trying to hack into systems and it's a daunting task to figure out a way to stop all of them and the short answer is you're not going to stop all of them. >> in the meantime millions of hacked government workers are now being offered credit monitoring or identity theft insurance. abc news. google is reversing course on reporting accidents by those driverless cars and the mountain view-based company says it will start disclosing all incidents involving its cars and on wednesday google's co-found her defended the company's decision not to reveal accident details in order to protect those people at fault. >> accident information will be released every month as part of a report on the project's progress. >> a strong jobs report is easing worries about the economy. 280,000 new jobs were added last month and the unemployment rate went up slightly, as well.

wall street didn't celebrate all those new jobs, though as you might expect. that was the closing bell today in new york city. the dow fell on fears of a good jobs report will send interest rates higher and the nasdaq rose a bit, though, and netflix hit an all-time high with one predicting it could double in five years thanks to international growth. >> 24 years to the day after the cdc reported the first case of aids in the u.s. a new project is being launched to tell survivors' stories. abc news was at city hall in san francisco as the non-profit hiv project announced the launch of generation hiv and thises is archive of hiv survivors and organizers hoped to double that amount by world aids day in december. >> our inspiration was the physical aids quilt but then we decided to actually make it a media aids quill so they're now the tapestry. >> coming up on abc 7 news at

will rise sunday and monday. see the upper level lows centered right over the sierra right now. it's the counter on clockwise circulation that's wrapping that moisture around in an east to west fashion and we've been fueling those thunderstorms in the sierra this afternoon. >> here is the forecast animation and plus the sierra and starting at 5:00 this morning or tomorrow morning into tomorrow afternoon and the moisture will produce outbreak and here in the bay area, i notice that things remain relatively calm tomorrow and it gets calmer as the day goes on in the sierra and into sunday and down to the south and anything, but calm. hurricane blanca is down to a category 1 now and it's still a powerful storm churning northward toward baja california. it will probably move around the cabo san lucas area on sunday evening. by that time it would have weakened to a tropical storm and still, a potentially damaging storm and moving right over the central part of baja california

into monday and tuesday and could produce rainfall. low temperatures will be on the mild side and mainly in the 50s and tomorrow we'll see mild to warm conditions and highs up to about 60 on the coast and low to mid 70s around the bay and low to mid 80s in our inland areas and in the accuweather seven-day forecast, you can see the warm-up coming our way on sunday and game two, day of the warriors and cavs in the nba finals and highs will climb and low 90s inland on monday and we'll see highs up to around 80 around the bay on monday and mid to upper 60s on the coast and quite a warm way coming our way and temperatures will begin to moderate around the middle of next week. larry and ama? >> thank you spencer. we'll take a live look at the 360 camera and glitchy this afternoon and this is eastbound interstate 80 in berkeley and just past the gilman exit and this is moving nicely. whoa! we're going totally off the

pittsburgh native named alfonso david eddington and chris will have more coming up at 5:00. another 49ers player has announced the retirement and anthony davis has informed the team he plans to retire from the nfl. lyanne melendez will have details on the medical reasons for the decision at 5:00. >> tonight governor brown met with city leaders who he has threatened to find $10,000 a day if they don't meet state-mandated water reductions. brown said the bay area is doing better than other parts of the date, and they're in the backyard of the vegetable garden that appears to be thriving in a drought. david, how is that? >> well it is possible because the city of redwood city is giving homeowners like this gentleman and his grandson recycled water and that's how they have the great tomato garden and this is one of the innovations the governor learned about when he came to the bay area as he came to preach about

more conservation. >> the governor was here and asked how well the heating is to conserve water and then they asked how he's doing? >> brown met with about a dozen people mayors and leaders from the agencies and he smiled when he said how many were exceeding the mandated cutbacks even though the rules didn't kick in about five days ago. >> the peninsula is exceeding its mandated cut to give recycled water from a nearby waste treatment facility and it's strictly for fountains, gardens and lawns. >> they came by to get some with a $275 gallon tank he filled with the help of grandsons billy and daniel. >> everything is dry now from the drought and it sinks right in and never floods or anything yet. >> the retired 77-year-old auto mechanic has engineered a pump and pipe system to get the

recycled water to the tomato garden so his summer crop won't be affected by the drought. >> recycled water there are no restrictions so each day residents can come and fill up almost a 300-gallon tank of water. >> governor brown hopes the state can soon allow recycled water to be used for drinking. >> if we can help with more sanitation, i would push that very hard. >> david louie abc 7 news. a controversial proposal by exxon mobil. the oil giant wants to use tanker trucks to transport oil through santa barbara county while they're out of commission. exxon mobil officials want to run 5,000-gallon tankers up and down highway 101 at a rate of eight an hour and environmentalists are raising concerns that the decision is expected on monday. data collected by realty track shows three bay area counties in the country's top five selling

above asking price. here is the list for you, santa barbara county is number one and marin is second on average selling for 22% over asking. san francisco is third on this list. at 18%, king's county in new york is fourth and san mateo county is fifth with homes going about 9% over asking and the list also shows you the average selling price of home in each county. >> president obama will deliver the eulogy at tomorrow's funeral mass for beau biden, the eldest son of joe biden. mourners paid their respects for the attorney general at st. anthony's church in wilmington. beau died after a five-year battle with brain cancer. he was 46 years old and he is survived by his wife and two children. the funeral will be targeted by members of the westhill baptist church. the church is known for protesting at the funerals of hive-profile individuals as well as soldiers and he served a year in iraq as a member of the

delaware national guard and they were outside the funeral of vice president biden's mother in 2010. a graduation nightmare for parents and they were not allowed to watch their kids receive the high school diplomas. families at northridge high school were locked out last night because of trouble with tickets for the event and they oversold the thing and more than 140 people were unable to see their own children receiving their diplomas. one mother was brought to tears after she missed her daughter's graduation. >> they said we're at capacity. nobody is allowed to come in. >> i was unable to see her graduation. she was the first one in our family to graduate from high school. >> parents couldn't even see through small windows in the doors to the auditorium. families say the organizers covered the windows with newspaper if you could believe that. >> a massachusetts man showing off a new star wars costume was arrested after taking his act too close to a school.

can see traffic is expected to pick up and you can see westbound and that is smooth sailing on the other side there but slow going after 4:00 on a saturday afternoon and 4:40 to be exact. that's the situation out in pinault and a check of the forecast with spencer. >> we have mainly calm although breezy conditions around the bay area and over in the sierra it's been a stormy day and that pattern will repeat itself and across the 48 contiguous states tomorrow and we'll see the thunderstorms off the mid atlantic coast and scattered thunderstorms reaching from the upper mississippi valley and down into the northern plains and over into the central rockies and across the state of california tomorrow. thunderstorms will erupt over the central and southern sierra and highs tomorrow 95 in chico and 87 in sacramento and fresno, 97 and palm springs 70 in los angeles and here in the bay area, we'll see mainly sunny

skies by the afternoon and low 60s at the coast and low to mid-80s inland and the warm-up and the real warm-up begins on sunday and here's a look at the week ahead to give you an example of what we can expect in the inland valleys and in terms of rising temperatures and 81 degrees and 89 on sunday and 93 on monday and 90 on tuesday and temperatures drop off a little bit wednesday and thursday and bounce back up to almost 90 on friday and that is a pattern we expect with high temperatures across most of the inland areas and next week it will be quite warm. larry and ama? >> thank you, spencer, severe weather wreaked havoc across the state, in denver, a massive sink hole swallowed up a police officer's suv and brandy hit has the details and a look at why the weather scare isn't over yet. >> destructive tornadoes sweeping through colorado. >> that is a huge tornado. >> one after another. >> it's violent, destroying

can only be there for 20 minutes and you can't just stay there all day and the meter is broken. so yes, same rules apply and you have to somehow let the meter reader know that it's broken and that's when you see the bag put over it or whatever and you have to assume it's not unless somehow you have a notification. >> i'm sure that will be a friendly conversation. that's going to go well. >> and then he pulls it off. >> this is a good one. my son is graduating college. what can he do for medical insurance? >> a couple of good things. first of all your son can stay on your medical insurance up until the age of 26 and that's if they're not dependent on you financially or in your own home and other than if they have their own medical insurance i.e., they go to work for a company and have their own insurance. otherwise, they can stay on yours and believe me most companies aren't going to give it to them because they know

they'll stay on yours until they're 26. obamacare, this thing is fabulous especially for low-income young workers. they can actually pick up insurance for $100 a month and maybe as low as $16 a month. >> $16? >> yeah because the government kicks in to help. it will have a pretty high deductible, but still they kick in to help and they ought to check that as well as yours. >> what happens when utilities say its workers will show up for a repair and they don't? >> well, you can sue them but it's kind of difficult. here is the deal. if the utility or any company that has 25 or more employees that was going to show up at your house or if you were asked to give a four-hour window and they have to make that window unless there was a crash and they couldn't get to your house. >> if they don't show up you can sue them in small claims court, but you have to prove an actual loss. it's not like i'm irritated and give me money. very, very difficult, but yeah.

he was taken from milpitas and found in fremont and it was after a bus driver saw him sitting in the back. chris nguyen is live in milpitas with more. chris? >> dan and ama that boy is now back with his mother this afternoon. the reunion happening here at the milpitas police department just a few hours ago. police telling us it was the quick thinking of a bus driver that made all the difference. it's something every parent fears. >> it was shocking. really shocking. >> reporter: at around 10:40 this morning a 3-year-old boy was taken from his mom at the milpitas public library. >> lots of adults and children are here and something you would never expect. >> officers quickly responded closing the library to incoming and outgoing traffic, they were told to be on the lookout. the suspect, 23-year-old alfonso david eddington of pittsburgh. shortly before noonan alert driver spotted the suspect and the victim on his bus, alerted authorities and drove to the
