abc7 news starts with live, breaking news. >> and that breaking news is in san francisco where just a short time ago a police car collided with a bicyclist killing that person. good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm ama daetz. it happened near sunnydale and persia avenue. >> the bicyclist was a man in his 20s. he apparently road into a roadway from a trail and it was very dark when the crash took place. >> they are trying to determine if it ran into the cruiser or if the car hit the bicyclist. we will bring you updates on abc7 news bay area. happening now, protestors are marching through oakland to neat. nearly 100 people walked through downtown. that intersection just opened moments ago. they are calling for an end

section of the library. abc7 news. crews are battling a fire in alameda and san juaquin counties. the fire started around 8:30 east of livermore near site 300. it has burned about 200 acres and it is 5% contained. the fire was caused by a power line knocked down by high winds. to a freak accident now at the oakland a's game at boston. a woman suffered life threat thig injuries after an oakland player's bat shattered and went into the stands in boston. >> broken bat grounder to short. >> as you saw and heard brett lawrie's bat shattered in the second inning and part struck a woman in the head. the game stopped for several minutes while paramedics treated her and she was rushed to the hospital. a bay area university will be the first in the nation to try a new on-line reporting system for victims of sexual assault. abc7 news reporter is live

with the story tonight. katie? >> ama the website will launch in the fall at usf. it was designed with input from sexual assault survivors so it is sensitive it. at the same time it could help the university crackdown on crime. for someone who has been sexually assaulted reporting it to police can feel like an impossible and traumatizing next step. >> you need to do something about it that takes them out of conviction i guess and your memory and what happened to you. >> the university of san francisco is piloting an on-line option. they allow the victim to write up an account of what happened. >> they ask trauma informed questions along the way. when they answer a question they can click on a button that says why are we asking this question? >> the student can choose to save the file or send it to the university. >> it is a touchy suggest. for somebody to do it anonymously or not having to interact with other people is

a good option. >> the site has a matching system if the victim knows their uhing tayer. >> they can put an identifying telephone number or name or e-mailing into the system. if it is matched by somebody else it automatically goes to the university and we can stop repeat offenders. the match would launch an investigation. in san francisco, abc7 news. >> we have new details tonight on a surgical marathon that just ended in san francisco. it involved 18 patients and 9 kidney transplants. doctors say everyone is doing well. california pacific medical center provided this video of one of the daughters. the nine donors include five husband and wife pairs. the excitement over the nba finals is spreading

gusty winds pushed the wildfire in southern california. the fire spread to 300 acres in lancaster. that's in northern los angeles county. the firefighters say the fire is 70% contained and it broke out near the california poppy reserve. >> turning to california's drought, the governor told a group of water managers that the bay area is doing a good job meeting the state's conservation goals. the strategy appears to be working and he is even doing his part. >> well, i didn't take a shower this morning. >> the governor is going to each region to preach conservation. he threatened to fine cities $10,000 a day if they don't meet state mandated water restrictions. as high as 36% took effect june 1st. >> when caitlyn jenner cayed the world to call me caitlyn they bonn deered if they

should do that by -- they wondered if they should do that by changing the name of the streets. the streets are named after famous olympians like bruce jenner. to change the name 50% of those on the street have to sign a petition to do so. it may not happen soon but one thing is for sure, robots that act just like people are coming. our sister station in los angeles has the story. >> the crowd goes wild over what looks like a simple maneuver. this is where robotics is today. 24 teams from around the world are here at the pomona fairgrounds for what is being called the olympic games of robotics. the defense department organized this first of its kind competition. the teams are developing the software that will have the

robots act and think like you and me. >> the challenge is figuring out what exactly our brains are doing when they are doing these things pushing on stuff and picking things up. >> the robots are required to drive a car and turning off a valve. the defense department hopes some day soon the robots will be used to go into dangerous areas such as a collapsed building looking for survivors. >> what you will see here is even the robots that look like they will do these task these are being remotely controlled by humans. they have very early capability. >> next to the competition there is an interactive expo. if you can work a video game console you can play with the latest in robot technology. >> animal you can see and change into machines.

half moon bay where the fog is sitting 55 degrees and 53 in santa rosa. the financial district is really faded under the layer of fog from the exploratorium camera. tomorrow when you have early plans dreef carefully if you want to head out the door. fog and clouds. mild to warm on your saturday. the area of low pressure that was responsible for all of the thunderstorms that low is moving out this weekend and that is going to set the stage for high pressure to build in and the temperatures will really rise for the second half of your weekend. until the low moves out, the thunderstorms will fire up in the sierra nevada. the biggest threat is the fire danger with some of the lightning. although we will see wetting rain with it. as we head toward sunday we are expecting some more showers and thunderstorms mainly in the afternoon and evening hours. keep that in mind. on the subject of storms we do have a hurricane. this is hurricane blanca. it has strengthened to a

category 2. gusts to 120. it will track north northwestward and as it continues on this track it will be near cabo san lucas. the swells are already impacting the coastline of mexico and the cabo san lucas area will get hit by swells wind and rain. if you have plans to head down in that direction especially toward the end of the weekend and the beginning of next week keep that in mind. tomorrow morning the temperatures are in the low to mid50s. the fog will be around the coast and the bay and then for the afternoon hours it will be a beautiful day in the south bay. 76 santa clara and 77 this san jose. gilroy 75 degrees. occasional high clouds well be it on the peninsula. 76 mountain view. 62 in pacifica. the fog is going to hang around well into the afternoon in daly city. 61 degrees. 63 downtown san francisco. north bay braye and in the 50s coast side but mid70s sonoma napa. a great day for the wine

a patient put on a show for doctors during his on brain surgery at a brazilian hospital. 33-year-old anthony diaz was on the operating table for his guitar while the doctors worked to remove a tumor. he played songs and sang. doctors needed to keep him awake so they could monitor his motor skills along with his speech. that's incredible. >> this is not a wardrobe malfunction. jim harbaugh shed part of his usual attire, the t-shirt and long sleeve he wears. he now coaches at the university of michigan. he went shirtless at a football camp in alabama. he told campers, quote, i was like a pig in slop after playing in 80-degree heat. he kept his khaki pants on. good call. >> that's a good thing.
