>> 6:00 on the dot. saturday june 6th. good morning i'm chris nguyen. mild temperatures to start the morning. fog could also be a concern. here's meteorologist lisa argen with a first look at live doppler hd. hi, lisa. >> hi, chris. a lot of fog in the north bay just crossing the golden gate bridge. mist, drizzle and low visibility. but the east bay it's sunny for you. and the south bay starting out with clear conditions. a few from mt. tam and you notice the low clouds. sun was up about 10 minutes ago. 54 san carlos half moon bay. 55 san jose. and the fog clears quicker today inland and around the bay. gets hung up at the coast once again. near 06 here. about 69 in oakland. 77 in san jose. the north bay will warm up, as well as the east bay today. more widespread 80s and 90s not too far off.

we will talk about that in a few minutes. chris. >> lisa, thank you. let's head to breaking news in san francisco where an investigation is underway after a police car collided with a bicyclist, killing that person. it happened at mclaren park around 9:00 last night. this is sunny dale and persia. the bicyclist was a man in his 20s. he apparently road into the roadway from the trail. we are trying to determine if the bicycle road into the cruiser or the car hit the bicyclist. authorities say the driver will undergo toxicology tests. >>. protesters marched last night calling to the end of protests. nearly 100 people walked through downtown and sat down and blocked off west grand at telegraph. that intersection reopened around 11:00 last night. the marchers were calling for the end to a policy that limits nighttime demonstration.

bold and clever action by a vta bus driver may have saved a kidnapped 3-year-old boy. as alan wang tells us, that action helped police nab the suspect just before he and the victim boarded a bart train. >> the bus driver is a hero. absolute hero. >> when the alert came out a 3-year-old boy had been abducted from the milpitas library, he thought a passenger with a crying boy fit the description so he pulled over and pretended to look for a lost backpack. >> what i am trying to get up and look at the boy without him knowing. i see the plaid shorts and red shoes. that's what stuck out in my mind. >> he quickly radioed police. he said the man identified at 23-year-old alfonzo david edington began to get off at the bart station. but police were waiting. >> so i opened my door once, giving him time to prep and get ready to go. opened door 2.

the. >> walks out, calm, cool and collected as could be and they take him down on the spot. >> there was an emotional reunion with the boy and his parents at police headquarters. that's when it began to sink in. >> that's when my own kids came to mind and i just broke down. i couldn't even hold myself. i had to go inside the bus and just reflect. >> police say the suspect had no connections to the family. and now they want to know his intentions when he snatched the boy from the children's section of the library. in milpitas, alan wang, abc7 news. >> san mateo police are looking for a man who robbed a woman in her driveway. police provided this sketch. he ran up to the victim with a gun and demanded money and jewelry. the woman was not injured. the suspect took off on foot. he's identified as a black male in his mid-30s, 6'1" 200 pounds with a slim bull. he was wearing a black hoodie and a gray knit cloth covering his face. the university of

san francisco is tackling the national problem of sexual assault on campus by becoming the first in the nation to try a new online reporting system for victim. it was designed with input from sexual assault survivors. katie marzullo has details. >> for someone who has been sexually assaulted, reporting it to police can feel like a traumatizing next step. >> you need to do something that takes out that conviction and helps the memory and what happened to you. >> the university of san francisco is piloting a online option. it allows a victim to privately write up what happened. >> it asks trauma-related questions along the way and when they ask a question, they can click on a button "why are we asking this question." >> the student can choose to just save the file or send it to authorities. >> it is a touchy subject so for someone to do it anonymously or without having to interact with

other people is a good option. >> it also has a matching system if they know their attacker. >> they can put an identifying telephone number or name or e-mail account into the system. and if it is matched by somebody else, then it automatically goes to the university and we can stop repeat offenders. >> the person making the report wouldn't know there was a match, but the match would launch an investigation. in san francisco, katie marzullo, abc7 news. >> a san jose dental office employee is accused of cashing more than $300,000 in forged dental reinforcement checks with the help of two san jose church workers. 56-year-old nadine cashed more than 350 checks at two santa clara bingo halls the majority at the bingo hall on patrick drive. the two took a cut and gave the rest of the money back to her who agreed to spend some of the money playing bingo. >> all they had to do is make

san francisco orchestra got in on the fun. jacob missley used to play for the cleveland orchestra, but now he's a hard-core warriors fan and during a game and twitter exchange erupted between the two orchestras. at san francisco symphony. beethoven said before his 5th symphony, cavs in five. he said come on, you must have been getting a hot dog during the second period. >> instead of the bet, we said let's have fun on twitter. >> nate controls the twitter handle for the symphony. he's hoping for even more banter during game two. in san francisco, sergio quintana, abc7 news. >> the warriors took a few minutes off from practice and the nba finals to bring smiles to some bay area kids. abc7 news was at the boys and girls club at east oakland and some of the biggest names brought excitement to the neighborhood and unveiled a new nba cares live, learn and play zone. >> i speak for myself and the

ep the fbi has arrested a armed robber who has been targeting bay area months the last three months. abc7 newsletter that it took a while to get the clean-cut bandit because of an to important oversight that could have result this had his

capture much earlier. we have the story you will see only on abc7 news. >> the clean-cut bandit. that's what the fbi called him when they first sent out a bulletin. these are some of the bank camera images of philip seymour. between march and this month they figured he robbed at least nine banks, six in san francisco, one antioch, one in elk grove and the ninth in san rafael. the fbi said the prolific bandit became more daring and more dangerous. >> he first brandished a knife in the earlier robbery and in the later robbery he displayed a handgun. >> reliable sources told us the 48-year-old was completing his term at a federal prison when he was transported to a halfway house in the tenderloin. sometime in march he disappeared from the facility. that's when our sources say the bank robbery spree began. but the fbi and local police had no idea who he was. abc7 news learned that's because federal authorities somehow

failed to issue an arrest warrant after he bolted from the halfway house. gilbert was even arrested by oakland police on a gun charge. but since there was no warrant he was allowed to bail out. sources say the bank robberies continued with another gun. at some point the fbi was able to identify him and an all-out search ended in los angeles. >> the l.a. division was able to pinpoint the suspect's location at a hotel in the bellaire area. >> the fbi said the intense search for the bank robber was a top priority because he struck so many times and he used a gun. they say that local police played a crucial role in his capture. vic lee, abc7 news. turning to a freak accident at the oakland a's game against boston. a woman suffered life-threatening injuries after an oakland player's bat shattered and went into the stands. >> a breaking bat grounder.

>> the bat shattered in the second inning. part of it struck a woman in the head. the game stopped for several minutes while paramedics treated her. she was then rushed to a hospital. american pharaoh will attempt today to win the belmont stakes and become the first triple crown winner since affirmed in 1978. he looked fresh and ready yesterday but he was held to a mile and a half lap around the over value. it's his bid to become the twelfth triple down winner. >> turning to california's drought. yesterday the governor told a group of water managers that the bay area is doing a good job meeting the state's conservation goals. he said the strategy appears to be working and he's even doing his part. >> well, i didn't take a shower

[laughter] >> the governor is going to each region to preach conservation. he's threatened to fine cities $10,000 a day if they don't meet state-mandated water reductions, some as high as 36% that took effect on june 1st >> most of us are trying to save water during the drought, even if it means turning our lawns brown. but as david cornell shows us, some of going green even without sprinklers. >> the grass is always greener at kelly's house, even during the drought. >> i left one day with a brown lawn and came home to a green one. >> she's a new homeowner. the lawn was on its last blade. not anymore. neighbors think she's a water waster. >> and then i tell them i just painted it. >> and what do they say? >> what? >> it may be the latest going on trend. lawn painting. the new company, brown lawns green, has been busy throughout the bay area. the green application lasts about three months but he said don't call it paint.

80s today and 90s not farra. cloudy at the coast and throughout the day today. san francisco gets some sun, and as we look at live doppler 7hd you will see there is low clouds and fog hugging the shoreline. it's clear in concord. a few clouds in livermore. and san jose not looking too bad. we have a hurricane, a pretty strong one in the pacific. this will continue to maintain it's category three strength. winds of 120 miles an hour. gusting to 150. but as it gets closer to cabo, it will continue to weaken. you can see the rain all the way up through cabo and parts of mexico right on through monday and tuesday as it weakens. from mt. tam the marine layer over 1500 feet deep. socking in much of marvin and sonoma, as well as the coast. 54 half moon bay. it's 55 and partly cloudy here in san jose. so hook at hays today fairly

similar to yesterday in the upper 70s. concord and livermore. more 80s for you. and a warmup in store for santa rosa petaluma and napa today. the delta will see more warmer afternoon temperatures. from the east bay hills camera the low cloud and fog deck situated around the bay this morning allowing for the fog, the clouds. drizzle. but earlier clearing from the east bay and we look at mild to warm conditions. hot temperatures arrive tomorrow into monday the hottest day. and really very little change on tuesday inland. more changes alive at the coast. with low pressure exiting the mountains, we are still going to have showers and storms from the northern and southern sierra. but that will continue to pull out. and as it does, high pressure begins to build on in behind it. that allows for warmer days. in fact two to three days of a warmup, and then a slight cool-down.

so the dreary daze of may slowly behind us. but you will notice the widespread shower activity and thunderstorm activity today in the sierra. but it does abate tomorrow. less in the way of that for your sunday afternoon. highs today in the south bay, very similar to yesterday. 78 in los gatos, 75 milpitas and sunnyvale. it was in the 80s yesterday redwood city. a quick warmup. 75 today. 63, some sun finally for you in san francisco. 75 santa rosa, and napa with low 90s. 75 fremont. you head inland and we have 80s today for walnut creek. 83 pittsburgh and 85 in antioch. the accuweather seven-day forecast, look for temperatures to slowly warm today. a bigger warmup tomorrow and monday with 90sic lapped. about 80 around the bay monday and even sunday and warmer weather at the coast.

we are looking at the clouds in san francisco here. but we have sunnier conditions around san jose and parts of the east about bay. in san francisco it's 56 degrees. we are hooking at some mist and even a little bit of drizzle out there. 53 in morgan hill. this shot yeah, pretty gray here from the exploratorium camera. low 60s on the way with sunnier conditions in san francisco today. near 70 over in oakland. and upper 70s for the south bay. more 80s for our inland east bay and that's just the beginning of a warming trend. we will talk about that and pinpoint those 90s to come this a few minutes. chris. >> lisa, thanks. in his weekly radio address, president obama urged everyone to celebrate immigrant heritage month. the president spoke about how we are a nation of immigrants. he said his family tree stretches back to ireland. the president said we must defend our heritage by fixing the country's broken immigration system. >> nearly two years ago democrats and republicans in the senate came together to do that. they passed a common sense bill

to secure our border, get rid of backlogs and give undocumented immigrants who are already living here a pathway to citizenship if they paid a fine, paid their taxes and went to the back of the line. but for nearly two years republican leaders in the house have refused to even allow a vote on it. >> the president invited everyone to share their family stories on immigration at whitehouse.gov/newamerican. >> today joe biden will mourn the loss of his eldest son during a funeral in delaware. the funeral for beau biden. it caps three days of public mourning in his hometown of wilmington. president obama will be there for the full catholic mass. former secretary of state hillary clinton and former president bill clinton are also attending. he died at the age of 46 to brain cancer. now to the warriors.

the team wants to move from oakland to the san francisco mission bay neighborhood. a study of the traffic and transportation impact was released yesterday. here's reporter wayne freedman with the report and the effort to stop the arena from being built in mission bay. >> given a chance, we are about to make 2300 papers of the supplement environmental impact report as fascinating as, how about the warriors versus the cavaliers? >> the warriors are a fantastic basketball team and we love them but the owners are not very good at environmental planning, nor are they traffic experts. >> that's sam, a pr man and hired down for the airlines who or the people who oppose putting a 20,000 seat arena here next to their facility in san francisco's mission bay.

speaker of the house dennis hastert. they say he sexually abused their loved one, their boy. brian ross has more. >> one of hastert's young alleged victims identified. this young man, the student manager for his high school wrestling team who hastert called in this 1970 yearbook description, his great right-hand man. >> he damaged steve i think more than any of us will ever know. >> speaking publicly for the first time, reinbolt's sister said her brother revealed the dark secret of abuse when he told her he was gay. >> i asked him when was your first same sex experience? he looked at me and said it was with dennis hastert. and i know i was stunned.

i said why didn't you ever tell anybody? he was your teacher. why didn't you ever tell anybody? he just looked at me and said who is ever going to believe me? in this town who is ever going to believe me? >> hastert became a kind of father figure for her brother, she says. as a member of an explorer's troop run by hastert, he was among a handful of young men he took to the bahamas. these are photos of the boys and him relaxing. >> here was the mentor, the man who was basically his friend who was the one abusing him. >> steve reinbolt died of aids in 1965. his sister said she then confronted then congreswsman hastert when he showed up unexpectedly at the funeral home. he stood there and stared at me and i said i want you to know your secret didn't die in there with my brother and i want you to remember that i'm out here and i know. then two weeks ago the fbi showed up at her door to ask about her big brother steve and tell her dennis hastert was about to be indicted.

lisa argen for a full weather check. hi lisa. >> hi chris. the marine layer will be getting compressed in the days ahead and that means foggier at the surface before the warmup kicks in. the marine layer not going away totally but it will allow for the dense fog in the north bay. it really hasn't reached the east bay this morning. we are looking at it dense in position but it burns off quicker in parts of the bay today, make for more 80s. live doppler 7hd. the fog is right along the coast. it's been pushing over into oakland. and the view from atop vollmer peak looking at mt. diablo. you see plenty of it here with temperatures ranging from the low 50s in morgan hill. 54 san carlos. good morning san francisco, 56. not any airport delays at sfo. you should be warming through the 60s today. plenty of sunshine in san jose. more upper 70s for you. more 80s on the way for the next several days. a few clouds around livermore.

notice the cooler numbers with the fog. even some mist and drizzle in the north bay. and the fog once again dense in spots and along the coast it's a little damp. so another look at mt. tam. looks pretty good out there. for today it will be a warmer day for the north bay. but starting out with the fog, clouds and drizzle. then a mild to warm day today for everyone with hot temperatures arriving tomorrow. in our inland east bay. and they will peek on monday. very little change on tuesday. then a couple of cooler days. but really a presummer preview for much of us. it has been a very cold and gray may. with showers and thunderstorms still in the forecast for the sierra nevada, the culprit is this area of low pressure. right now it is in nevada. it is pulling out, but it allows for more storms there today. the low leaves. high pressure builds in. that gives us our warmup for the next several days. upper 80s today in sacramento. don't look for rain there. but you can see all the way down

through the southern sierra. cloudy skies in southern california. maybe some subtropical moisture on the way from the hurricane. it's well to the south now blanca. we continue to look for the mild temperatures there. in terms of warmth, look at livermore today. highs in the mid-80s. average high low 80s. look what happens tomorrow. 90. 96 on monday. still in the 90s on tuesday. then a couple of days where the numbers will trail off in the mid-80s. looks warmer again into next weekend. with the warm weather in livermore, san jose not too far behind with plenty of 80s for sunday, monday and tuesday. then you see the numbers just cooling off for one day there on wednesday. so finally looks like things are changing. although with our par,red conditions we around really too excited about the heat. low to mid-80s for fairfield, livermore and antioch today. 60 and cloudy half moon bay.

the accuweather seven-day forecast, a chance of more sun at the coast right on through tuesday. around the bay warming to near 80. that warmest day open monday. mid-90s there. this is the first time we've seen the warmth since about april. you will notice a little cooler by the end of the week. so with all our dry conditions you know, we haven't had the high fire danger and that adds more fuel out there. be careful. >> thank you. turning to sports now. some unfortunate news for the cleveland cavaliers. their all-star point guard now out ahead of tomorrow's game two of the nba finals. larry beil takes a look at that and more in this morning's sports report. >> good morning, everybody. a devastating blow for the cleveland cavaliers in the nba finals with game two coming up on sunday they just lost their all-star point guard kyrie irving out with a broken kneecap. he came in hobbled by tendinitis in his left knee. he played well in game one. had 23 points.

in overtime irving knocks knees with klay thompson. he would leave in agony. an mri reveals a fractured kneecap. he's out three to four months. >> i have been playing basketball a long time and i've seen it all, no matter what the circumstances is you go out and play as hard as you can and you live with the results. >> whoever is going to play those minutes, they are going to come in and try to win the game as well and impact the game so we can't assume this is going to be a cakewalk for us to be a championship. it will still be a challenge, it still be tough >> the irving injury thrusts the former saint mary's starter math dell into the game. he played only 9 minutes in game one and did not score and did not attempt a shot. he did play well in the previous series against the atlanta hawks. nfl news and another stunning retirement from the 49ers in the off-season. this time it's right tackle anthony davis, who is only 25 years old. the five-year-old veteran said he wants to get his mind and body healthy.
