because we've had such a cool may, the month of may, and even part of june you may not be used to this heat. so heat-related illnesses possible. you will want to grab water and stay in the shade. i'll let you know when you can expect cooler weather coming up. >> thank you so much. well the heat is catching a lot of folks off guard. we continue our team coverage in concord with ways people are trying to beat the heat. >> reporter: it's 102 degrees in concord right now. and the drought is not stopping anyone from finding ways to cool off. what better place than water world, california where there's 1 million-gallons of walter pumping through the entire park. one look at this water park and you would never know we're in a drought. walter world, california saying there's plenty of fun in the sun here while also being mindful of water conservation. >> we made huge strides to reduce water usage and waste.

>> reporter: the savings are expected to be huge. >> one of them is new filters that reduce water waste by 90%. we've filled any underwater cracks. >> reporter: the park is now open every day of the week, just in time for the triple digit weather to hit the inland parts of the bay air yeah. the heat advisory now in effect until 8:00 brought a lot of high school seniors out to cool off. >> i heard it was the hottest day this year. >> it is so hot. you cannot stay on the ground. we were walking to get food, and we were literally skipping around and like, dancing. >> i couldn't take it anymore. i had to run to the shade. >> reporter: many tried to beat the heat by walking pets or playing with kids earlier in the day. the heat is nothing new for those who live in the east bay, but they're trying to acclimate

again. the hot weather for the most part has been a welcome change. walnut creek has been gearing up for the surge in customers. some say it's finally nice to work on their tan. >> and you can always track bay area temperatures on your phone with the abc 7 news weather app. it's free from the apple i store at google play or go to abc 7 news.com/app. several lanes on the richmond san rafael bridge were closed after asphalt began to crumble. >> reporter: the good news it has reopened. very good news. and i thought traffic was going to be a lot worse when it reopened. but surprisingly as you can see behind me, it is moving. but this closure which lasted

about six hours or so is having an impact on tonight's commute. from sky 7 hd the bridge looked more like an l.a. >> freeway at midday. >> this is terrible for midday. >> reporter: this family was driving from southern california when they hit traffic. >> we've been on the road since 6:00. and this is so disappointing. >> we saw the sign way ahead of time. but we thought we could beat it. >> reporter: traffic was reduced to one lane while cal trans crews worked to repair the asphalt, which had weakened making it unsafe to drive on. >> what we had was the combination of the diesel spill and the sudden warming in the temperatures. that caused the asphalt to become loose and unravel come apart. >> reporter: that diesel spill occurred in mid-may when a 18 wheeler was sideswiped by a car.

it loosened up the asfault. the cleanup most likely didn't occur as quickly as it should have been. it didn't happen in time in. >> >> it didn't happen quickly enough. >> reporter: they hoped to fictionfix it at night when traffic is lighter. the massive traffic jam ended just before 4:00 this afternoon. >> thank you. the heat is causing about five-minute delays for bart right now, but it's going to get much worse between san francisco and west oakland when a link is going to shut down. the most critical link has to be shut down for major track replacement work, replacement work at the entrance to the

transbay two. the tracks are 40 years old. >> reporter: there's no good time to shut down bart service in the transbay tube. but they've picked the least bad times, and they're very much to be commended for that. >> so you can plan ahead. the weekends were chosen based on historically low numbering ofs of riders. tonight they're reviewing tape. abc 7 news reporter vic lee is live with the latest on the story. >> reporter: more questions than answers tonight. the driver of the car asleep? was he passed out on drugs? and why was he shot and tasered at the same time. all of those questions on the minds of residents we spoke with today. the man has been identified as 30 year old jemoreia haas.

the station has at least four cameras inside and out. they're also looking at video from body cameras worn by some of the 12 officers who responded. they're also looking at cell phone videos. this one taken moments before an officer opened fire into the car. most everyone we spoke with in this trendy area heard what happened. some in disbelief. >> it's a real nice area and everything, so i would not think a lot of that stuff would happen over here. >> reporter: but it did early saturday morning. a bmw reportedly used in a burglary the night before was stopped along the off ramp of highway 580. the driver asleep or passed out. the police use add bull horn trying with no success to awaken the man. they shot beanbags and hit it with a metal pipe to break the

side window finally the man responded. >> a confrontation ensued. one officer deployed a taser, a second officer deknowployed a firearm. >> reporter: the driver later died at the hospital. a boy and his mother were walking near the scene. >> yesterday my bike got stolen and luckily my dad's friend found it and gave it back. >> reporter: the last officer-involved shooting in oakland was two years ago. vic lee, abc7 news. a man from livermore is now convicted in the killing of his 6 month old son and will spend 11 years in prison. he pleaded no contest in his son's 2013 death. the district attorney originally charged him with murder. the by died from head injuries doctors say were not accidental.

he says he suffered a seizure and rolled out of the bid onto the floor. a woman's attorney announced the decision today. he is accused of sexually assaulting a. would, the same month the team dropped him from the team. he also faces possible domestic violence and child endangerment charges in another case. millions of dollars in federal loan debt will be erased for thousands of corinthian college students. it was one of the large for-profit schools. according to investigators, corinthian schools charged exorbitant fees and encouraged superintendents to lie about their circumstances to get more federal aid. the future of apple was on display today in san francisco.

ceo tim cook announced a lot of new features at apple's worldwide developer's conference, from a new ios to a new music app. the internal operating system can make your phone's battery last longer than ever. >> you're running low on power, you start searching for switches and turning off features in the hope of extending your battery life further. now in ios 9 we give you a single switch low power mode, and it pulls levers you didn't know existed. >> the new battery switch can extend your phone's battery by up to three hours. support for same-sex marriage is growing. a new pugh survey says that americans are in favor of allowing gays and lesbian to marry legally. 39% are opposed. a wells fargo ad featuring a lesbian couple is causing a

the warriors headed to cleveland this morning. this is the team at the oakland airport boarding the plane. they are looking to bounce back in game three of the nba finals. >> but the dubs will be playing without their secret weapon. the fans are known for loud cheering. >> could all that noise be detrimental to our hearing? we checked it out. >> reporter: we all know oracle arena is known as roaracle arena. during the playoffs with the pelicans, their coach said he wasn't sure the decibel level was legal and it's only gotten louder during the finals. >> like nothing i've ever been to. >> reporter: an oddologist treats patients with hearing loss. he estimates decibel levels in the 100 to 120 range which is

wheel? >> more than we think, probably. michael finney is here with the details on that and more. >> is it depressing or not depressing? >> a financial services company has done a huge survey of commuters in several of the nation's largest cities, including san francisco. here they found that consumers spend 56 minutes and $9 a day commuting. 25% of those surveyed say they use the time to be more productive. the upside 64% consider their commute to be the only "me" time they get in the day. why do they care to figure this all out? they offer a new reward program for every dollar spent on gas, tolls and parking. americans are paying down our credit card debt at a furious clip. during the first three months of this year we paid down nearly

look at this near triple digits, still in morgan hill. you see a few of those puffy, cumulus clouds. we'll be seeing more of those tomorrow and could even see a shower or thunderstorm pop up. 97 in santa rosa it is close to 100 in napa. still plenty hot in concord, pet luma luma. san jose camera showing you lots of sunshine in the south bay. we'll go with fog along the coast. cooling down over the next few days with the possibility of showering and thunderstorms. it's not going to be widespread. we're expecting an isolated possibility. here's what's going to bring that possibility. this area of low pressure that's also going to bring relief from the hot weather. that will draw up moisture from blank blanca. once a hurricane, now just a tropical depression. you might notice the humidity come up thomas weomorrow as we get

some moisture from what was once a hurricane. we'll see the clouds increase at 10:00. and can't rule out an isolated shower or thunderstorm in the early afternoon hours, even into the evening tomorrow. we'll do that again on wednesday. moisture around clover dale around noontime. as we head through tomorrow morning you'll notice how mild it is, mid-50s to mid-60s. but the fog will be there at the coastline. it's not exactly great sleeping weather if you don't have air conditioning. and i know sol homes in the peninsula, not exactly an ac -- don't have it, excuse me. so it's going to be a tough night to sleep. 84 tomorrow afternoon in san jose. you will get some relief in the south bay. 82 gilroy. 86 in los gatos. you're looking at an increase in cloud cover in the peninsula. 64 in pacifica much like today.

wa military veterans are turning to a very special companion to help them fight post-traumatic stress disorder. we were at the humane society in burlingame as they showed off their service dogs. they help them relieve anxiety and other symptoms of ptsd. sadly 22 veterans kill themselves every day. >> i'm relaxed. i'm able to do things that i would do but reluctantly. >> they want more funding for programs that get service dogs for veterans who are suffering
