it while crews put the fire out and cleaned up the debris. it took some drivers an hour and a half to get from tracy to dublin triple the normal time. >> the power is back on after a brief outage in los altos with hundreds of residents and businesses losing power when a transformer grew this morning. police say the transformer blew after two birds flew into it just before 8:30 this morning. power was restored to 600 customers affected before 10:00. >> after working through the night pg&e crews restored power to nows left in the dark during the scorching heat. high temperatures in the south bay like gilroy's record setting 109 degrees led to underground equipment failure for pg&e. thousands were left all night without power or air conditioning. this morning, a man said he was roasting in his house since yesterday afternoon but the big concern was work today. >> i was more concerned of not

waking up on time and i gave my boss and call and said i might oversleep but it worked out. >> you are up early enough? >> i made it. >> this is interesting. this is time-lapse video from last night showing the power outage creating a black out in san jose as the sun was setting. the outage reached parts of the east bay and peg said they are working to restore power to 180 customers mostly in walnut creek and danville. >> power is back on this morning following another outage last night caused by a squirrel. pg&e said the critter caused a shortage at el cerrito substation coming in contact with the transformer and knocked out power to 40,000 customers between berkeley, richmond albany and several other cities before being restored two hours later. >> after the heat year people in the bay area woke up to a plus decembery morning. >> what a difference. pg&e crews are in san mateo where the wind was the problem whip up tree branches.

signature of a heat burst which is air sinking so rapidly it heats it dries and it clears everything out and it increases the winds. that is a rare phenomenon if that is what happened because that is what it looks like now. it is not 100 percent. that is my best guess. >> thank you. with the fourth of july around the corner, santa clara county is taking steps today to curb illegal fireworks which are a nuisance and a danger. our reporter is at the county building in san jose with what is being proposed. matt? >> yes, all fireworks are illegal in santa clara county including the safe and sane but for gilroy. but that is not stopping them from being set off all across the county but the new proposed ordinance would give law enforcement a new target. >> fireworks are the stars of fourth of july celebration. if santa clara county big communities sponsored evens bring out thousands but illegal fireworks are a big nuisance and danger.

that is why the board of supervisors propose add new ordinance holding responsible the people lighting the fireworks but, also the property owners. >> we have places in the city of san jose and other areas of the county where it is an absolute epidemic. we get a last complaints. law enforcement cannot keep up with responding after the fact. >> if someone drink at your hat and gets in an accident you are responsible and if someone is using fire work at your louse and is injured, you are responsible. 1,900 kids are injured each year around fourth of july four in santa clara county including a boy who was seriously injured and his father arrested after fireworks exploded in their home. fires are will a serious concern especially during a drought. under the any ordinance, being a prosecute owner or fireworks are illegally discharged could result in fines from $350 to $1,000 and possibly response costs. >> it is a big problem and you will see the city of san jose and some of the other cities

109 today but 76 at 5:00 dropping to 72. what is going on outside? here is a look at our thunderstorms that remain offshore. they have been 100 miles offshore all morning. they will continue to rotate away from us and the ones to the south come up highway 101 that will get us possible during the evening and overnight hours. we will see increasing clouds and decreasing heat and showers and storms are possible through tomorrow afternoon. a summer spread will develop this weekend and we will not be so hot but it will be warmer-than-average. look at temperatures, everyone is cooler by one degree in oakland to 13 in santa rosa to 11 in livermore where it is 81 right now in antioch and fairfield and santa rosa is 67. san francisco, san carlos, in the mid-to-upper 60s and everyone else in the mid-to-upper 70s. now our temperatures today are mid-to-upper 60s where we will go for half moon bay and san francisco and low-to-mid 70s richmond and oakland and san rafael and upper 70s to lowity for the rest of the bay, and mid-80s in the south bay and

the north pay and mid-80s to low 90s inland east bay. probably still need the air conditioning because it did not cool off last night. tomorrow, it will be muggy again so mid-50s to mid-60s and hopefully you will sleep better. here is a look at the cooling effect of the sea breeze and the high clouds. notice there is not were of a chance of a thunderstorms, a stray one in the evening and it starts to develop evermy as the backgroundry sets up across the north bay and through the overnight hours. that is the best bet, the low is pulling inland and it wraps around on back side of that we could have scattered showers move through our neighborhood tomorrow afternoon and into the evening. notice it is not so oppressive as the radar right now. tomorrow, two to six degrees cooler. temperatures rebound to today's level on thursday. 60s and nearly 70 along the coast and 80 along the bay and mid-90 friday saturday and sunday inland. >> now a look at the video of a little girl taking the internet by storm and getting some
