on to its side along interstate 280. sky 7 hd took these pictures of the after math. it was really pretty frightening situation. the car sat on the shoulder of the freeway until it was pulled back on wheels and towed away. a mud vehicle rolled over in oakland. this happened on highway 24 near tunnel road. one person was hurt but is expected to be okay. and in the south bay an accident light rail service to a stop. abc 7 news was in san jose when a van slammed into a pole. that affected service until early this afternoon. speed may have been a problem in this accident. piece of the old bay bridge ended up littering an old oakland road. an overturned big rig spilled metal beams. it shut down the on ramp for several hours today. within one week two children have been bitten by rattlesnakes

in northern california. now snake experts say they are getting a lot of calls to remove them. an update on the 2 year old bitten last night. she is at children's hospital with the story. >> reporter: doctors here at children's hospital say the little girl is lucky she was brought in so soon after she was bit by a rattlesnake. they say in cases like this time is of the essence. she is in stable condition and recovering in the intensive care unit. doctors are optimistic this 2-year-old girl will go home soon. she was air lifted to children's hospital last night after a snake bit her in the foot. >> they said this looks dangerous and called 911. >> reporter: her grandfather said she was playing in her backyard when she was unexpectedly attacked. fire crews notice her swollen black foot. within minutes they found the culprit, this rattlesnake.

and in fulsome this 4-year-old boy victim to rattlesnake bike. his pregnant mother tried to help the boy but made a big mistake that could have hurt them both. fortunately everyone is fine. >> mama bear instinct in me decided to suck the venom out. >> reporter: veterinarians say you may see more rattlesnakes this time of year due to the drought. >> with it being dry a lot of animals are being concentrated where water sources are. >> reporter: that means they can be lurking around your home. this rattlesnake was found in someone's yard in walnut creek. >> i get a lot of snakes with the drought that are caught in garden netting. >> reporter: experts recommend clearing brush around your house. >> once you have been bitten by a snake the sooner you can be treated the more likely it can be resolved quickly. >> reporter: her family is thankful that was the case for

2009. >> reporter: 38 firearms among them 22 assault rifles and 12 handguns, a cast of explosives including pipe bombs, a grenade and 5,000 rounds of ammunition all found in this home occupied by austin chin who was arrested last week also captured homer matthews. >> all i hear was a big boom and they come in. they rush in i think there was like ten guys out there with like guns wearing black suits. >> police call this the letterman robberies. >> one of the perpetrators wore a letterman's varsity jacket. >> reporter: the spree started in late april and then this walgreens and ended about a month later with a brazen robbery at a grocery store. >> two of the employees were taken from the street, moved into the store constituting a

kidnapping. >> reporter: police believe the two were selling the weapons on the streets many they say are the same type being used in shootings. they are trying to trace the firearms but so far they haven't found any that have been registered. san francisco's old rape kits will be tested. there is money in the budget to test the rape kits for cases that occurred before 2003. a few days ago the chief refused to partner with district attorney's office to apply for $4 million in grants to test the kits. san francisco will join new york city, cleveland and houston as major cities with no back log in these untested rape busted a massive 44,000 square foot marijuana factory. this is a large look at the large warehouse that goes and goes. authorities say the value of the

mt. eden high school. >> reporter: the rain finally tapered off just in the nick of time. parents are starting to show up carrying balloons and flowers and umbrellas just in case. today's rain a bit of a surprise for many students and staff especially in the middle of a drought. maintenance crews and students from mt. eden high school's leadership class used towels brooms and leaf blowers to dry bleachers and seats set up for tonight's graduation ceremony. today's rain showers impacting but not ruining the event. >> we are looking forward to rain or shine that we are going to have the graduation. we have been looking for this obviously for years. this is something that parents are always looking forward for. >> reporter: principal says they cannot move the crowd inside because they don't have the space. an estimated 4,000 to 6,000 guests are expected. the brown athletic field serves as a reminder of the crippling

drought. the soggy weather a bit of a surprise for organizers following sweltering weather. >> we are hoping for better weather. it is summer time. our kids are ready to go outside in the weather and swim. this is not something we expected. i think in the bay area this is something that is needed and our parents aren't going to let it stop them. >> reporter: the school called parents asking them to bring umbrellas and ponchos just in case. maintenance crews covered the podium and students will walk on carpet so they don't slip. staff members say they are happy to get rain but it won't dampen the celebration. in hayward, elissa harrington abc 7 news. >> we did get welcome rain today. steady drizzle in the east bay. here is what it looked like in oakland. some areas got a month's worth of rain. here in san francisco people using umbrellas for the wet weather. today's showers brought record rain for the day. >> chp officers hoped to reunite

installing smart water to detect leaks. in the middle of the wet weather sky 7 hd over the bridge where this sign was displayed for drivers. limit outdoor watering as we look at the rain we had today. it is just one day. >> if you don't limit the watering you could pay a huge price for wasting water. >> michael finney is here with word of an astronomical tax. >> eventually this stuff will hit us. the new bill in the california legislature hits with 300% tax for wasting water. the proposal would authorize local water districts to levee the tax. it would need support from republicans who usually oppose higher taxes and then would need to be passed. i do not expect this tax anytime soon but there will be additional fees and costs. you might have to buy a

whole new set of carry on luggage under a proposal being pushed by airline industry. the initiative from air transportation association would require a standard size for carry on luggage and the standard size is smaller than what you are carrying. the group thinks the idea would make it easier for passengers and the airlines. i agree if the size is smaller than what is allowed about a half inch shorter and 1 1/2 inches less deep. that is still bigger than european standard. this would increase the chance you would have to pay a fee to check your luggage. the new standard carry on would be available for purchase widely by the epd of the year. richard branson unveiled a perk offering a full year of paid time off for workers who want to take parental leave much more generous than what the government requires. the plan includes parents who

livermore may feel warmer to you because of the humidity from our camseeing lots of blue peeking through the clouds. showers ending this evening. heat back on tomorrow with upper 90s inland friday and saturday. satellite radar shows you really what happened. area of low pressure came in and pulled up the moisture remnants from blanca. moves out overnight tonight and takes the humidity with it. tomorrow you will notice we will see cloud cover diminishing. fog will be around first thing in the morning for the commute. if you take the ferry across the bay it will be a murky start. lots of sunshine for the afternoon except for parts of the coast where the fog hangs around. temperatures rebound for thursday afternoon. take a look at san jose tomorrow 85 degrees. numbers come up to about 90 on friday and then saturday will be dropping a little bit. second half of your weekend a little more cooling. temperatures mid 50s to low 60s.
