view this morning. maybe some mist and drizzle as well if you are along the short line and reduced visibility. from our roofer camera it's filed but cooler. 54 santa rosa. but milder temperatures with clear skies from concord to livermore. a few subtle changes today. more cooling arrives tomorrow. we will talk about all the temperatures for the weekend coming up. chris. >> thank you, lisa. we are following a story at california's great america. a high-speed collision sends two people to the hospital, one with serious injuries. it happened last night. you see the emergency vehicles around the ride called "flight deck." for those of you who haven't

been to the park in a while, it used to be called "top gun.." >> one said he was on the ride and saw what happened. >> somebody dropped a cell phone and we were turning and someone got hit with the first lent. it was about ten feet away. >> a horrific scene to witness. authorities say a park employee did go to the hospital with traumatic injuries. a visitor was also taken to the hospital for a hand injury. the park will reopen this morning, but a spokesperson said the ride will remain shut down until all of safety avenues are explored. however, investigators do not think the ride malfunctioned. >> this is not the first time there's been an accident like this at great america.

back in september, 1998, a mexican national was killed at the same coaster that was then called top gun. he climbed over the security fence to get his wife's hat and was kicked in the head by a rider. >> 5:02 is our time. also developing, police in dallas, texas have evacuated an area by their headquarters as a standoff continues with a man who may have opened fire on the building. the sound of gunfire erupted just after midnight [gunshots] >> take a look at this. the vehicle described by witnesses as an armored van deliberately rammed the police car before backing up and taking off, starting a police chase. officers say several windows were shot out at police headquarters. they also found four suspicious bags, one of which was carrying pipe bombs, which led to the evacuation. it led to a jack in the box parking lot where they are trying to talk the man into surrendering. police are looking for as many as three other suspects. any officers were hurt.

>> back in home, this ended peacefully overnight. hundreds of people demonstrated at the scene of a deadly police shooting. shutting off the off-ramp of 580 until just before 11:00 last night. the march end peacefully, but many people still have questions for police. ♪ >> protesters blocked the intersection where 30-year-old demouria hogg was shot and killed by oakland police on june 6th. police say he was asleep or passed out in his bmw. after commands and beanbag shots at the window failed to get him out, police moved in and shattered the lacrosse. >> mr. hogg abruptly turned and leaned over and extended his arm out toward the u continue sell that was on his passenger's

seat. steven betz is the attorney for the police officer and fired the two gunshots >> they said all kinds of things i don't believe. >> and they want to see the body camera video. and steven betz, the attorney, said he's seen it. >> you can't tell what's going on in the car. >> the officer assigned to use her gun and have it ready, if necessary, had just 128 months of police experience. >> he didn't hurt anybody. >> as long as people continue to die on the streets without police accountability, they will not only be inconvenienced, but they will be saddened as much as we are in our hearts. >> in oakland, alan wang abc7 news.

>> new details this morning. police need help find ago vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run collision early wednesday morning. the victim has now been identified, age 59 from santa cruz. this accident happened on highway 1 near river street around 12:45 a.m. police are interested in this silver-color vehicle on the scene. police say it would have been damaged in the collision. a teenager in san jose is charged as an adult for masterminding the burglary of his own party's home. the 17-year-old recruited three gang members for the home invasion last month an shiloh place. this video shows the two of them breaking in through the door. police say they cut phone lines and stole cell phones and tried to attack two women and a baby hiding inside >> the search continues for two escaped prisoners in new york for the eighth straight day, but they have made a break arresting the prison employee

who may have helped the prisoners escape. >> joyce mitchell facing a judge, charged with helping these two inmates escape. mitchell who supervised who was working in the prison may have smuggled in some kind of contraband, playing a role in their ability to break out of the prison. >> it's one large piece of the puzzle in the attempt to find the two murders. >> they were asked whether she was asking a relationship with one of the two fugitives. and one said the 51-year-old was supposed to pick them up in the getaway vehicle but never showed. possibly leaving the quick the killers still on foot and still hiding out in this area. >> you have to believe they are cold, wet and hungry but that makes them more dangerous and desperate. >> the search intensifies, officers on atvs combing the woods near the prison. >> blackhawk helicopters scanning from above and people are told to lock their doors. >> at night when i go to bed i'm scared.

i have a shotgun next to my bed. >> they say there are other prison workers who may have helped the fugitives. joyce mitchell faces the potential of 8 years in prison if convicted. abc news, new york. >> petaluma police are investigating the theft of 15 catalytic converters in the past six days taken from dodge diesel pickups and hyundai sequoia. and toyota hundred draws. each theft can cost up to $4,000 for repairs. most are in the neighborhood near highway 101. the converters contain valuable metal that is sold to recyclers for $150 a piece. >> police of relying on security videos to solve crimes more and more these days. in two bay area cities police are hoping the video will help them catch this murder.

we have the story. >> loss got, to about 30,000. last year people started a registry here called los gatos watched. a program where you can give police information about your security cameras. 830 businesses and residences are participating. cameras know now where the cameras are and where they are pointed. >> it's solving crimes in a timely manner and giving them an opportunity to react on investigative leads in a timely passion. >> bob had one of the first outdoor cameras downtown. his video has been used as evidence by police. >> if there's a break-in or fight and we are able to provide video that just happens to be within our scope. >> and thanks to the registry, video of this man and his car led tight rest of a suspected thief who stole packages from homes in los gatos.

police arrested three people suspected of burglarizing home and business. what cracked the case? the video from the security camera. >> a good description of the suspects, a good picture. >> and a thief was arrested after stealing packages from homes. there was a graphic video of a gas station robbery that went bad. the robbers shooting at the frightened clerk, who ran off. investigators hope this video will help catch them. vic lee, abc7 news. farmers holding the oldest and strongest water rights in california have been told to stop pumping water from some waterways. it affects more than 100 senior right water holders in the water shed. it involves the first mandatory

camera as the sun is rising on this saturday morning. the time right now is 6:15. we will get a check of the full accuweather forecast. meteorologist lisa argen is coming up in a little bit. the golden state warriors are waking up in the bay area this morning. sky 7hd was overhead as the team arrived in cleveland yesterday from oakland international. the team was in a brighter mood following the big win on thursday. some fans showed up for a fans to catch a glimpse of their heros for sunday's game five. at abc7 we are all about the warriors but in the interest of fairness, there is another team involved. sky 7hd shows us the cavs plane landing at sfo just before 67:00 last night before the game at oracle arena. lebron and company drew a good crowd with lots of people taking pictures on their cell phones. turns out there are a few cavs fans living among us. they drew big crowd.

the seaweed. >> it's not unusual for the slugs, called sea heirs to wash ashore. >> they were kind. -- kind of cool looking but then it's kind of weird because i'm thinking what's going on with our water? >> they say it's unusual to see them show up now in the spring and over an extended period of time. >> we've been seeing them wash up since september, going all through the winter and even into the spring. so perhaps it's because of the warmer water? >> the slugs are among a few creatures of that been mysteriously showing up on land. a number of whales have been beached lately in san diego, and tuna crabs have also been washing ashore. it may be linked to the el nino effect, warm temperatures in the pacific ocean. >> you can participate in science projects and report them if you see them so we can report changes that are happening.

>> she said the sea slugs are purple because they are full of ink, and they aren't harmful to people. abc7 news. >> whether ice it's been warming the past few days, lisa. >> yeah. and the sea breeze, and it will be keeping the coast cool. livermore yesterday 101. it will be feel better today, about 5 degrees cooler. and concord with 96. you should also experience about 5 degrees cooler maybe two or three degrees of cooling around the bay, including oakland and san francisco. so just a little bit of modest cooling today. more so tomorrow. and here's a look from our east bay hills camera. shows very nice picture of the fog. look at numbers on the mild side throughout the day. 61 in mountain view. 67 and cloudy skies in san francisco with 55 from morgan hill, half moon bay. visibility has been anywhere from about a half-mile to

2 miles. and another look outside. a light breeze right now but it will be out in the west up to 15 miles an hour keeping san francisco about 2 or 3 degrees cooler than yesterday. upper 60s for you. concord and livermore, more heat, but you won't be in the triple digits today. and mid-90s should do it for you in livermore. so starting out this morning with the fog at the coast even some mist and drizzle. plenty of sunshine inland. the temperatures continue to rebounded to. but still, anywhere from 2 to 5 degrees of cooling. and then this, a low cloud deck will push in a little bit further tomorrow and that will allow for more of a sea breeze and cooler condition force the second half of your weekend even into monday. the nice shot from the exploratorium camera where we have mostly cloudy conditions out there. patchy fog and mild conditions overnight. warm to hot weather again today with a little bit of cooling, more noticeable tomorrow.

but today numbers will come out of the triple digits and really be into the mid-90s. but if you are headed into the sacramento valley, it should be about 100 degrees there. and more temperatures flirting with 100 during the southern sierra as high pressure sits right over the states. but it is beginning to nudge a little bit closer to the east. and that is pushing into california. that will allow for more fog today by late in the day certainly. you know what? most of the coast will be cloudy from the san mateo coast and santa cruz should get into some sun shine. los gatos, 92. 85 santa clara and the peninsula, mid-60s half moon bay. 81 menlo park. 75 milbrae. feeling pretty good there. upper 60s san francisco. and up in the north bay, a wide range of temperatures from the low 70s in sausalito.

>> half past the hour on this saturday morning. it's great to have you with us. i'm chris nguyen. warm temperatures expected throughout much of the bay area this weekend. here's lisa argen with a first look at the forecast. hi lisa. >> hey chris. we had warm temperatures yesterday in the livermore valley but i expect it to be cooler there today. looking nice in san francisco. it has been gray. there's been some mist and drizzle at the coast and visibility has been reduced.

6:34 is our time. a little over a year after being diagnosed with breast cancer, an east bay woman is already in remission. she said exercising is an important outlet during her recovery, so she quickly resumed her personal training at a local health club but not until after "7 on your side" michael finney had to step in to help. >> barbara enjoys working out to reduce her stress and stay fit. she also likes the energy of other fitness buffs with similar goals. >> i was really looking forward to it. >> barbara had beat breast cancer and had reconstructive surgery. her surgeon cleared her to exercise back in february. >> he shook my hand and said you are good to go, and i said, oh yeah! >> she prepaid for 38 personal

researchers at u.c. berkeley believe they can make a fashion statement more environmentally friendly. it has to do with blue jeans. if they are successful, the next pair you buy could be greener. abc7 news morning news anchor eric thomas has the story. >> there's no doubting america's love affair with blue jeans. in fact, manufacturers turn out roughly 3 billion pairs a year. but producing that indigo blue also comes with a major environmental challenge. disposing of a toxic chemical used in the dying process. >> you simply throw it in streams, which is done in many dying facilities, it kills the fish and other aquatic life. >> to clean up the process, this researcher and his team set out to make indigo dye in a new and different way. instead of the current petroleum based formula, they turned to plants.

the original way to do it before the 20th century. >> we realized if we take advantage of the properties in plants. >> processing the plants themselves is expensive by today's standard. instead they turn to a powerful technique known as synthetic biology. in essence, letting the bacteria do the work for you. to follow the path they had to start with some molecular detective work, identifying the properties that make the indigo make and store it in the first place. >> it helps us detect the way to find the enzymes to make the product. >> in a potential breakthrough. the team isolated an enzyme they believe is responsible for the key part of the process. the next step is to insert it along with genes into bacteria. if successful, they could ferment it and spin out the native dye without the pollution.

and six-mile visibility. we are looking at that foggy golden gate where limited sunshine was the case yesterday. it wanted to clear at stinson yesterday, but that fog really just sitting right at the coast. and once again today it will provide that cooling there for our beaches. 60 in san jose. 57 in san francisco. mist and drizzle, as well. and that deck of low clouds in some areas above 1500 feet. mt. tam, a beautiful shot of the sun up above. it sets at 8:30. yes, of course the longer days with us. 54 this santa rosa and petaluma. 60 in concord. nice and sunny there already as well as livermore. temperatures hot again but looks like we will be just shy of the triple digits. here's look at emeryville. kind of gray. more 70s. so it is mild this morning. some patchy fog. warm to hot again today with about a 30 to 35-degree spread.

cooler tomorrow as that high pressure ridge begins to push out of town a little bit. right now it is situated right overhead in the eastern pacific and that is allowing for a pretty healthy sea breeze. but, of course, east of the caldecott tunnel where we don't get much of the influence, it will be hot again. temperatures will be warming quickly into the 90s, but they should hold there into the mid-90s. maybe by antioch we could see some upper 90s. we will look at heat again in yosemite. 100 in chico. right now watsonville looking at some pretty gray conditions. 75 in los angeles. 105 fresno. so pretty hot in the interior. san jose though, look at numbers in the mid-80s. little change for you today. here's the cool down tomorrow and monday and then warming back up the middle of the week. and livermore once again today it will be warm, but not hot. 95. cooler tomorrow and cooler still on monday. then you notice the numbers
