the world champions are home. the golden state warriors flew back from cleveland, landed in oakland about an hour ago. it is their first championship in 30 years. some of them lucky enough to touch the mvp trophy. the team partied until 5:00 a.m. in cleveland. they will get some rest and get ready for the big parade on friday. good afternoon, everybody. >> well deserved. the team arrived less than an hour ago. live in the oakland airport.

what a time for all of the people out there. >> reporter: this is the hat that the warriors were wearing last night. this is the top selling item. behind me you see warriors staff getting ready to head on the buses. they were here to surprise the team. as you said the nba champs came in on a delta flight just a short time ago. you see steph curry walking off we are talking about ticket agents marketing people. they were all here last night and here is what he had to say when he came off the plane.

>> nice to be back home with the trophy to celebrate with the fans. i can't wait for the parade. it's going to be so much fun. we are going to have a good time celebrating. >> reporter: curry savored the moment. he not only let the fans touch the fabulous trophy but used his own camera to take pictures and video. draymond green was also there in the crowd. he played a major role in this team's success. >> all of these warriors are champions. he was named the finals mvp. he never started during the regular season but he came off the bench in the finals with some spectacular play. all in all, all of us in the bay

area are pretty excited about these nba champions. it was a 40-year drought now broken. we can't wait to celebrate with the parade on friday. >> thank you. several dozen fans showed up at oakland international to welcome their team home and hoping to snag an autograph or handshake. we saw them get much appreciated waves from the team but didn't spot any players pulling over for meet and greet. how about steph with his new best friend posted this picture on instagram, back to the bay with this bad boy. can't tell y'all how proud i am of everyone on the team. other warriors players were posting memorable photos on

social media. bogue andrew bogut took a bite out of the trophy and the championship trophy got its own seat on the plane. >> buckled in. >> they also did a new rendition rendition. crossing the line a little bit. it's about cocoa puffs. >> oakland is getting ready for the big nba championship parade. >> it will begin friday morning at 10:00. the route takes the team through broadway ending with the rally at the kaiser convention center. >> city officials are busy putting finishing touches on plans and fans are making their own plans for friday morning. >> we are still working on details but we promise will be beautiful, visual and full of those famous oakland fans! >> i would like to participate. it's a great thing for oakland.

>> i am going and i will be dressed in all my warriors attire. >> businesses on the route say they are looking forward to watching the parade go by and the customers come in. >> if you are planning on taking bart to the parade on friday plan on arriving early. bart officials say they are planning to accommodate a record number of people expected to attend the parade and the victory rally this friday. bart will run rush hour service using every available train possible at maximum length to help people get where they need to be and want to be and asking riders to please be patient. oakland's big parade celebration begins friday morning at 10:00. we will have crews stationed and will be live streaming fun so you can watch at work. we have the route and all the details posted on our website, abc7news.com. wonder what the weather will be like.

balcony collapse. today the city's mayor says water damage is probably to blame. >> six college students were killed in yesterday's accident. the other five victims are from ireland. they were 21 years old. abc news reporter has more on the investigation. >> reporter: we learned today that an investigation found the balcony under the one that collapsed is also unsafe. engineers are in the process of taking it down. the whole thing needs to be removed within 24 hours. a simple yelp search of the library's apartments details history of tenant dissatisfaction, complaints about clenliess. one shows a picture of an up upstairs patio. the city of berkeley feels

investigations find the balcony below the one that gave way is structureally unsafe. >> i'm not surprised. >> laura gomez lives at the building. >> these things can be prevented with the appropriate management with the action and building unsafe buildings and with the city inspecting properly and making sure the buildings are up to code. >> reporter: others leaving flowers were expecting to see something else. >> i was expecting an older structure. it would have made more sense, but just a little bit sad that it seems like it could have been prevented. >> these apartments are less than 10 years old. management has 24 hours to remove the unsafe balcony. other units with similar decks have been red tagged. the mayor says he suspects water

damage. others say it is clear just from the images there is dry rot which is caused by water intrusion. in berkeley elissa harrington, abc 7 news. >> most of the victims' families are arriving from ireland right now. some will go to a crisis and support center. >> what we are concerned about is reuniting parents with their children getting the children and parents back to ireland and the saddest moment of all is bringing the bodies of those who died under such tragic circumstances as quickly as we can. >> back in ireland flags are flying at half staff over public buildings to pay respect to the victims. as we said she was an assistant high school soccer coach. we will talk to her colleague and family friend and the abc 7

graduation to mourning the death of their oldest child. >> she was wonderful, upbeat, always happy, just a great kid. >> she and her cousin 21-year-old olivia burke from ireland were among the six killed tuesday morning when an apartment balcony suddenly collapsed. ashley was a senior at sonoma state where she studied biology and was part of the health professions club. >> she was very smart very driven. >> i watched how she had played and her passion for the game, her love of the high school. after high school was over i asked her to be an assistant coach on my club team. >> reporter: a community expressing deep grief on her facebook page. >> girls are devastated. that is how much ashley meant to

them. >> reporter: messages of love and admiration continue to pour in honoring a young woman who lived life to the fullest, but one whose life was taken too soon. >> the cathedral will hold a mass tonight to honor the balcony collapse victims. it starts at 7:00 p.m. and is open to the public. a san francisco art gallery is receiving death threats over a mural depicting lgbt culture. abc 7 news captured graffiti on this mural outside. the artwork features a male couple and a female couple. the museum says the art has helped create a positive dialogue but some want it silenced. >> we received support from folks from arizona texas. unfortunately, folks that are in social media discussing this decided that they were going to silence the narrative and they

with the trophy. barnes said you know we had to make the championship edition. the team goes out to party last night in cleveland and are out until like 3:00 in the morning went to morton's steakhouse. this is such a team of good guys. there is no knuckle heads on the squad. neither harrison had touched a drop of alcohol. and so some of the other guys were trying to get them to try champagne. they ended up at 5:00 a.m. and went to the hotels and said they didn't get any. harrison did have a sip of something. i don't know. undisclosed beverage. they love to post these videos online and have been doing this running gag. you can do whatever you want. they get along so well. other teams, a higher knuckle head factor. their knuckle head factor is zero and the most humble

live from the kgo tv broadcast center this is abc 7 news. oakland and the bay area are still buzzing over the warriors first nba championship in 40 years. >> i think people are going to be beaming for a while. this is a historic one for a team that won a total of 83 games this year, third most in league history. no wonder last night's celebration was good at gold. >> and the dream season is now complete. the golden state warriors won the nba champions, their first title in 40 years. now those crazy loyal bay area fans. >> we have the greatest fans in the world. it has been 40 years. i am so happy for them. >> for the 2015 nba championships, the golden state

california and wrong for the children of california. the use of the term is just wrong. >> opponents say the state government shouldn't get involved in a local issue and moves to the appropriations committee. for years native americans called for the washington redskins to change their team name. 100 residents have been evacuated in arizona after a brush fire sparked in the town east of phoenix. the mayor evacuated all homes and businesses along the river. officials say the fire has burned 25 acres. a 16-year-old shark attack victim is speaking from his hospital bed trying to come to grips from the loss of his arm. more on how that one swim has forever changed his life. >> reporter: in the 911 tapes you can hear the terror. >> his arm -- >> reporter: a massive shark jumping right out of the water in north carolina sunday attacking a teenage boy and ripping his arms straight off. 16-year-old is recovering and speaking out from his hospital

bed. >> i didn't see it coming. i felt it on my leg. and then i saw it once it had attacked my arm. >> reporter: he says he was wading in waist deep water when the unthinkable happened. he says his cousin helped get him out of the water. beach goers stepped in before emergency crews air lifted him to the hospital for surgery. >> they wheeled me into the er and 25 people there was quite a spectacle because i was conscious and aware. >> reporter: he is the second victim in that area that day. about 90 minutes earlier 12-year-old girl was bitten by a shark. she lost a portion of her left arm below her elbow. her family said in a statement yesterday she is in stable condition but has a long road to recovery that will include surgeries and rehab. he lost part of his left arm in the attack but is keeping a positive attitude about his options. >> there is one that i would

house. >> reporter: a master planned community designed for water efficiency. that is why the community service district is so upset by what has just happened. >> we have a potential crisis that could be devastating to the community. >> reporter: mountain house is within site of the california aqueduct. the irrigation district that owns the rights and sells the water has been ordered by the state water resources control board to stop. people in this community are trying to come to grips with what that means. >> threaten to say you are going to cut somebody's water off people tend to panic. >> i feel our community is conservative. we have small yards. i feel like we have done our part. it is frustrating to be told your entire town is being cut off. >> reporter: the irrigation district tells us it has senior

water rights and plans to sue the state to keep the water flowing. the community services district is scrambling to find a source of emergency water which obviously is no easy task. >> i put the word out here our residents are very concerned about this. their taps are not going to run out of water. we are going to be successful finding emergency water supply. >> reporter: the household taps may not run dry but millions of dollars of landscaping could be in peril. a community whose growth was stunted by the housing crash may be about to suffer a second crushing blow. george warren news 10. >> thanks for joining us for abc 7 news at 4:00. back in the bay and loving it. the warriors return home victorious and fans lineup to greet them.

and they are a lot of fun. oakland has the weather the lake. this parade is not only for the fans and for the team but also about enhancing oakland's reputation as a great city. barricades dropped off this morning. several block off traffic. the parking restrictions begin tomorrow at 8:00 in the evening through friday at 6 p.m. oakland's mayor has great hopes for the event. we expect all of oakland and the bay area to come down to the shores of lake merit and help celebrate this incredible team. >> reporter: here is where the parade begins. right across the street is the practice facility. from broadway we make a right on to grand avenue where local businesses hope fans will stop by. >> we are hoping for it and anticipating it. probably have extra staff on. >> reporter: and here is where most of the fans will gathe
