and they are a lot of fun. oakland has the weather the lake. this parade is not only for the fans and for the team but also about enhancing oakland's reputation as a great city. barricades dropped off this morning. several block off traffic. the parking restrictions begin tomorrow at 8:00 in the evening through friday at 6 p.m. oakland's mayor has great hopes for the event. we expect all of oakland and the bay area to come down to the shores of lake merit and help celebrate this incredible team. >> reporter: here is where the parade begins. right across the street is the practice facility. from broadway we make a right on to grand avenue where local businesses hope fans will stop by. >> we are hoping for it and anticipating it. probably have extra staff on. >> reporter: and here is where most of the fans will gather along side beautiful lake merit.

>> people are most focused on the value we get. to see something that is beautiful and green and really oakland is the brooklyn of the west coast. >> reporter: but brooklyn doesn't have the kaiser convention center and soon the warriors will be there. a few hours after they claimed the nba championship crews began setting up the stage where the team will address their fans. >> the warriors are in town. all right. go warriors! >> reporter: a lot of people here were toddlers the last time oakland had an nba victory parade. in oakland lyanne melendez abc 7 news. >> championship t shirts are going out by the truck load from studio 1204. workers started printing when game six ended and didn't finish until this morning. they were headed in san jose which opened two hours early so fans could get their championship gear.

>> i think i needed to get four. i thought it would be good to help them out and get for everybody. >> fans also lined up outside the warriors team store. they say they won't be taking off gear anytime soon. overnight the championship gear sold out. >> and the dream season is complete. >> and this is the moment the fans may have cheered for the loudest, the warriors defeating the cavs 105-97 in game six. >> in oakland fans jumped on buses after the big win. things were relatively calm. oakland had fewer arrests than san francisco. >> bart is preparing for record ridership. officials say every available train will run on friday but limited service at downtown stations to avoid crowded platforms after the rally. oakland's big celebration begins friday morning at 10:00. we will have crews stationed all

along the route. we will be everywhere and live streaming on abc7news.com. we have the route changes to mass transit and all the details posted on the website. we do move on now to other news today. this very important story we have been covering. several more families of victims from yesterday's berkeley balcony collapse have just arrived from ireland. six died when the balcony fell. five students from ireland were killed. chris joins us live from sfo. >> reporter: good afternoon. some of the families arrived last night but the remainder did just come here at sfo on a direct flight from dublin being taken to a crisis and support center in berkeley where they will meet with irish officials.

and it was a very difficult moment seeing all of those families arrive off the plane. a lot of them very upset that something like this could happen to them. the irish officials were also there on scene trying to make the transition as easy as possible in terms of getting them to that crisis center. hopefully now we can send it back over to you and play the story. >> we will continue to follow their progress as the families arrive from ireland just a terrible time. the investigation of the construction company which built the apartment complex has been in trouble before over allegations of dry rot in other buildings. settled two lawsuits in 2013. among other things the company was accused of improperly waterproofing balconies.

berkeley's mayor says he suspects water damage however the investigation is not complete. former tenants of the building say it has a history of problems. >> these things can be prevented with the appropriate management with the landlords taking action and not building unsafe buildings. and with the city inspecting properly and making sure the buildings are up to code. >> building managers were ordered to remove the balcony beneath the collapsed one after an investigation found it unsafe. members of the community are grieving after one of their own was killed in the deadly collapse. 22-year-old ashley donohoe was loved by many and heavily involved with the local soccer community. >> reporter: ashley donohoe was

a star soccer player in high school and her love for the sport continued here on the field where she was an assistant coach to the local club team. everyone who knew her say she was a bright young woman who excelled at everything she did. friends say ashley donohoe had a contagious smile and brought laughter wherever she went. a family friend who did not want to be identified said the tragedy has rocked the donohoe family who in a matter of weeks went from celebrating their youngest daughter's high school graduation to mourning the death of another child. >> she was always happy, always a go getter. just a great kid. >> reporter: ashley and her cousin 21-year-old olivia burke from ireland were among the six killed tuesday morning when an apartment balcony suddenly collapsed. ashley was a senior at sonoma state where she studied biology and was part of the health

professions club. >> she was very smart, very driven, she had the world by the tail. she was going to do anything she wanted to do in life. >> reporter: ashley's soccer coach. >> i watch how she had played and her passion for the game her love of the high school. so after high school was over i went to her and asked her to be an assistant coach on my club team. >> reporter: the tight knit community now expressing their deep grief on her facebook page. >> that was our english teacher. >> reporter: messages of love and admiration continue to pour in honoring a young woman who lived life to the fullest, but one whose life was taken too soon. >> flags in ireland are at half staff. a mass was held at the college of dublin where two of the victims graduated.

ireland's minister for foreign affairs tweeted this picture saying our deepest sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives. there is word of an act of heroism of one of the survivors of the collapse. thanking another survivor for breaking her fall. her brother tells the irish independent newspaper that she is upbeat and recovering from spinal surgery and say they are grateful to jack who broke her fall. hal pin is still in the hospital with serious injuries. this afternoon over the cathedral where a mass will take place honoring the victims. the service at the cathedral of christ the light begins at 7 p.m. do stay with abc 7 for continuing coverage of the balcony collapse. we are sending updates on twitter. we are updated the latest developments on our abc 7

drivers in the area prepare for delays. this crash has closed the southbound highway connecter, eastbound traffic diverted off route 121. expects the closures to last until about 7:00 tonight. back to the balcony collapse while the cause of it in berkeley won't be known for a while much attention to the possibility of dry rot. here is a graphic showing what the balcony looked like before the accident and after it just crashed on to the one beneath it. >> there are obvious warning signs of dry rot. >> michael finney has a look at what they are. >> dry rot has been blamed for several deck collapses here in the bay area specifically san francisco. the good news is these kinds of accidents are avoidable. >> reporter: director of the san francisco building inspection department looking at pictures from this deck collapse in the city back in january. a guard rail gave way during a

party and left three guests injured when they took a fall 20 feet on to concrete. investigators concluded dry rot was to blame. >> look at the deck here dry rot and then this is dry rot here. >> reporter: dry rot was blamed for this fatal deck collapse in 1996 in san francisco. investigators also determined dry rot caused this deck collapse two years later injuring several people. the coastal weather conditions make dry rot a problem throughout the bay area. says there is something you can do to protect yourself. >> have a screw driver and you can see. >> reporter: if you poke the wood and it crumbles it likely has dry rot. the berkeley accident and the three incidents mentioned in this report all happened at parties. he suggests limiting the number of people on most residential decks or balconies to four just to be safe.

san francisco requires balconies and decks to be inspected every five years. it's one of the toughest requirements in the state. we contacted the city of berkeley to ask about any inspection requirements and have not heard back. >> we should all do better. a san francisco art gallery is asking for help following vandalism and death threats over a mural highlighting lgbt culture. abc 7 captured graffiti on this mural. the executive director of the gallery says it is a hate crime. >> we knew we would have some reaction but the reaction we didn't anticipate was the violence people are calling upon social media for folks who identify with the narrative and support the artist. that to me is heartbreaking. >> says the gallery will restore the artwork and is asking neighbors to help keep watch at night. the mural is part of exhibition. all of the artists involved are

latino and grew up in california. a local chain of bakery caves is closing. starbucks is selling it but will continue to sell pastries. david louie is live in downtown palo alto where one of the 23 locations is shutting down. >> reporter: i have never heard so much disappointment about the planned closure. here it is a very popular place for meetings and even job interviews. starbucks clearly wanted it for the high quality breakfast sandwiches since it started nine years ago as a single shop in san francisco. >> i love the mini smoked salmon sandwich. >> there is no replacing it. >> reporter: as it grew more popular it expanded into a small chain around the bay. by the time starbucks paid $100 million for them three years ago. >> we come here for lunch but then there is a morning crowd on weekends. people come for lunch and brunch

and bring their kids. there's always somebody with a dog on the patio. >> reporter: the small chain will close by the end of september. some signature items will continue to be sold at starbucks. >> you can get pastries at starbucks but not as good as here. >> there is a difference. >> reporter: it was a distraction according to one starbucks executive. coffee served in ceramic bowls. companies tend to require companies to cherry pick what they do best and starbucks saw food sales rise 16%. >> i was happy when they bought it because they make a good product. i was glad that starbucks added that line. i'm vaer disappointed that they are closing. >> reporter: some employees may be offered jobs at starbucks while others may find themselves out of work. >> david louie abc 7 news. big problems for uber.

the california labor commission has ruled that drivers should be considered employees, not independent contractors. the ruling comes after a woman filed a claim saying uber owed her unpaid wages and other expenses. the commission found uber acted like an employer and not a middle man like the san francisco based company claimed. uber says the ruling applies to only one driver. riders will be able to enjoy a continuous street car ride to at&t park. the new line will begin service the weekend of july 25. five historic street cars will be put into service saturdays and sundays running to the station. says a seven day a week service is coming in 2016. a little bit of good news for air travelers. the airline industry says it will not reduce the size requirement for carry on bags at least not yet. today's move comes after intense pushback from lawmakers.

that massive earthquake in nepal in april literally moved a mountain. mt. everest shifted nearly 1.2 inches southwest during the earthquake. it is a small step backwards for the mountain. it maintained its height and continues to rise about a tenth of an inch every year. we already know that water is running dangerously low in california. a new study tonight finds the world is losing water resources at an alarming rate. this is a look at the underground water in california in 2002 2008 and 2014.

you can clearly see the center part of the state in red which means underground aquifers are dangerously low. the main reason is our growing demand for water. one third of the earth's largest groupd water basins are being depleted with little to no chance of recharging. facebook ceo mark zuckerburg and his wife announced they are donating $5 million to a scholarship fund for young undocumented immigrants. the money will be used to help those in the bay area attend college. the couple said in a statement america was founded on immigrants. we ought to welcome smart and hard working young people from every nation and help everyone from our society achieve their full potential. back to the warriors. senator dianne feinstein took to the senate floor to congratulate the golden state warriors and admits she missed three chances to do it for the giants when
