for a gunman would shot and killed nine people inside a church in south carolina. police released these images of suspect and his vehicle described as a white man in his early 20's and he opened fire inside the re-do thanly black emanuel am. church in charleston dug bible study last night. nine people were killed and survivors say the shooter sat through an hour of bible study before opening fire. the mayor is calling the incident a hate crime. this is the most dastardly act one can possibly imagine and we will bring that person to justice as soon as possible. >> this is among the deadliest church shootings in united states history. the church will hold a candlelight vigil later today for the victims. >> in fairfield a man is in the hospital this morning after massive explosion at a home in fairfield. evacuations have been lifted and investigators want to get a good look inside the home now with our reporter at the scene.

amy? >> yes investigators plan to search the house this morning. hook behind me where the explosion happened. it was in a side yard. it knocked the fence over. we are toll it knocked the garage door off hinges and describes as very loud and dangerous. the man holding the device was airlifted to a burn unit in sacramento and the rest of the materials were hauled out of here. you bomb squad detonated the devices overnight in a secure location. it was so loud that 180 people called 9-1-1. investigators say there were so many devices that it took three trips using the bomber squad truck to haul all of the material out of the home. >> as described to me by the speakers, it was very unstable and very dangerous and that is

people would have to deal with the aftermath of ill wheel fire works. san jose has seen an increase in the number of compliments. that is why mayor liccardo and city council members and firefighters are getting behind a new ordinance that will give additional authority to cite people using fire works. no fireworks are legal in san jose and it is not just injuries concerning officials but with the drought they can spark a fire. the ordinance would allow park rangers and community service officers to issue citations giving san jose more eyes on the street. the proposal is discussed at the june 23 city council meeting and the new rules would not be if place by the time july 4th rolls out around this year. >> this morning a memorial is growing in berkeley at the cite of a balcony collapse that killed six people on tuesday

morning. hundreds gathered for a memorial mass at oakland's cathedral of the christ light last night with most of the victims students from ireland visiting the bay area for the summer. the balcony they were standing on collapsed during a birthday party and some victims families and community leaders arrived at sfo from dublin. the pastor who has been counseling those affected by the tragedy had this to say. >> it is overwhelming to be honest. with the parents you just hold them. they are in a state of shock. >> a candlelight vigil was held at civic center park to autopsy the victims. this morning, state senator hancock who represents berkeley will ask the california senate to adjourn in memory of the victims at the conclusion of today's regular session. >> and the prime minister of ireland is criticize "new york times" for an article about the incident if a letter in the paper today, he writes that "new york times" should be hanging

its head in shame at how outrageously it rushed to judgment on deaths after a "new york times" article on the j1 visa program that brought the constitutes here. the reporter called it a "source of embarrassment," marked by a series of high profile episodes involving drunken partying and the wrecking of apartments. "new york times" said there was a more sensitive way of telling that story and is distressed at having added to the anguish of family and friends of the victims. >> oakland police have arrested a father of a little girl shot in the chest two days ago. the four-year-old if girl is involving great a serious chest wound at children's hospital. her father, 23-year-old julius miller and several others were shooting paint balls at people and someone fired back with real bullet and a bullet hit his daughter. police arrested miller after he went to the hospital to check on his daughter.
