breaking news in antioch. this is video over the pruett family water park. dozens of swimmers got sick there this afternoon. about 40 people reported problems breathing. and some also were vomiting. several ambulances arrived to treat the swimmers for possible chlorine exposure. >> chlorine is a toxic gas that can irritate eyes and caught respiratory problems of the we don't know how many people were at the water park today. it was nearly 90 degrees there in antioch. we will continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated as we get more information. our breaking news continues now on twitter at abc 7 news bay area. now to our other top story the deadly church shooting in south carolina.

of the crime scene tape. there is a big pile of flowers left for people stopping by to pay their respects. abc news, charleston, south carolina. developing news now, police are investigating a shootout between two cars in an emoryville parking lot. police tell us the incident happened around 2:00 p.m. there are no reports of in i injuries. police did block off much of the lot with crime scene tape. an autopsy today shows the six students killed in a balcony collapse in berkeley died from multiple injuries caused by the impact of the five-story fall. workers are removing what's left of the balcony. people are stopping by a growing memorial there. the victims were all standing on that balcony tuesday morning celebrating a birthday when it suddenly collapsed. for the first time today we heard from one of the seven students hurt. shawn left a note on the wall.

new details on the teacher outrage in sunny vail. >> not a single one of the 25 teachers will be back this fall. they will all be transferred. they were told they could reapply for their job. david? >> reporter: there's no question the teachers hee are feeling a case of whiplash. last night they were told they're all going to be transferred. this is a situation today they are not coming back to the classrooms in the fall. kathy white who has taught kindergarten for 14 years here reapplied for her job here. >> they led us to believe that we had an opportunity to be considered with anybody else applying for our jobs. now we find out that apparently that was never their intent. >> reporter: the teachers union and cupertino school district

signed a memorandum of understanding that that this is permissible. some parents are very upset. >> that's totally unfair. every one of these teachers is phenomenal. i don't know why this is happening. i'm a parent. i pay taxes here. i'd like to know why the district is here and i think the state superintendent of schools ought to get involved. >> reporter: the person behind the change is the superintendent who said she cannot explain the reasons behind it because it's a personnel issue. a member of the school board told me she has the full board's approval. teachers union president said he hopes all 25 west valley teachers won't go to their new schools with targets on their backs. >> this is the fairest way. but it's obviously the most disruptive way as well which is sad. bottom line is the community and the children are suffering as well. >> reporter: the west valley teachers must now apply for openings at other schools. >> we want to make sure that if the superintendent makes a decision, to remove all the -- to relocate all the teachers, we want to make sure that the best

42-year-old anthony stewart remains hospitalized in critical condition. police removed three truckloads of dangerous materials from stewart's home. his neighbors were briefly evacuated. a tough new ordinance will expand who can use -- or enforce fireworks laws. that's not all. >> abc 7 news reporter matt keller with the story. >> reporter: san jose is a booming city in more ways than one. >> we heard from our residents loud and clear that they're very concerned about the use of illegal fireworks. >> reporter: stopping illegal fireworks was the goal behind this morning's news conference. they are getting behind a proposed ordinance giving authority to more city workers to give citations to people possessing or using illegal fireworks. >> we couldn't possibly put enough officers out to be able to stop all the fireworks. we want to be able to leverage administrative processes using signs, using administrative

sanctions, and using many of our employees who are not sworn. >> reporter: if the city council sets this issue as a top priority for san jose at its next meeting, the proposed ordinance would authorize more rangers and security officers to write citations for fireworks violations. treating it as a nuisance case with no need for an eyewitness from an officer or firefighter. fines are up to $1,000 with a possibility of more for repeat offenders, and large quantities of fireworks. in june and july of last year the city received more than 2,000 fireworks complaints. >> it gets worse every year. there are explosions. last night it was going on at 11:00 at night. we're, like can we please go to sleep now? >> reporter: city leaders say they are providing alternatives for residents. fireworks shows are being held at three different locations here in san jose over the fourth of july holiday. while the city of oakland prepares to celebrate the

severe drought. well, i'm sorry to say that things have gotten worse. the drought has intensified along the north coast right now with a wider area of being extreme drought. so clearly the situation is getting worse statewide. here's a look at the satellite image showing continuing onshore flow. winds flowing from offshore to low pressure inland. typical summertime alignment. we have a typical summertime pattern right now. tomorrow look for 6:00 tomorrow morning, a little bit of fog. mainly at the coast. it will be mainly clear inland. notice what happens during the daytime hours as the sun beams down. it becomes sunny in all areas. breezy at the coast. but still clear. highs will range from 60s at the coast tomorrow to 70s around the bay and 80s and low 90s inland. it will be a little warmer tomorrow as well as saturday. your parade weather. parade and rally weather i might add. starting off tomorrow morning in oakland, a little bit gray with a few lingering low clouds.

bay area students who will benefit. abc 7 news reporter chris nguyen now in san jose with more. chris? >> reporter: hi, larry. evergreen valley college is home to four of the scholarship recipients. tonight we introduce you to a young man that it may sound cliche, anything is possible. at evergreen valley college 26-year-old espinoza shares his life as an undocumented immigrant. >> after high school it was time to start working and providing for my family. i didn't have another income to pay for school. >> reporter: college would have to wait. but a side job moving office equipment at facebook led to a major change. >> the university that they have there. >> reporter: he would enroll with a goal of studying computer science. now two years later he moves on to uc santa cruz this fall with a $25,000 scholarship from the dream u.s. organization. >> the first person i called was my mom. she was there.

the contra costa fire department and said the pool is closed for the day. a total of 34 kids were affected. let's go to the video and show you what happened earlier today. this water park is a series of swimming pools that recently began seeing large crowds after the school year ended. 17 children were transported to local hospitals. another 17 kids were treated and released. hazmat officials say the kids were exposed to sodium hypo chloride which is an alternative to chlorine because it's more stable than regular chlorine. the down side is it's stronger and more toxic. here's what they had to say to us. >> the children were showing symptoms of inhalation problems as well as vomiting. >> reporter: now this all coincides, we're told, with the delivery of those chemicals earlier today. i asked if the system is an automated system that delivers these chemicals or not. they don't know. right now, the investigators are

inside the pool trying to determine exactly how this all happened. alan wong reporting live in antioch, abc 7 news. >> alan, thank you. breaking news in union city right now. live over an apartment fire in the back of a four-unit complex. flames first broke out about 4:15 at a carport next to the apartment building. >> and you can see all the smoke coming off of that area. you can also see on the left-hand side in the smaller box, you can see the water being doused onto the area from firefighters. and the map shows you where it is. our breaking news continues on twitter at abc7news.com. we continue to follow this breaking news of this fire. the shootout this afternoon between two cars in an emoryville parking lot. witnesses say about ten shots were fired in the lot of the pack 'n save on san pablo avenue.
