2 1/2-mile visibility, half moon bay, easy for me to say right? petaluma, five miles. and we are looking at a nice sunny beach here in santa cruz. so temperatures will be in the 70s this afternoon at the boardwalk. morgan hill 59. it's 61 in mountain view. and mt. tam this morning with about a 400-foot marine layer. you'll have a bit of a breeze but it will be warm today up in santa rosa, in the 80s. down in san jose low 80s. coast side upper 50s to mid-60s. and father's day cools off a bit. i'll have the details coming up. chris? >> lisa thank you. a 65-year-old man is free this morning pending an investigation into a fatal collision in vallejo. police are looking into whether a man was under the influence the or suffering a medical condition when he drove his car through a bus stop and down a sidewalk, killing a woman and injuring five others. abc 7 news reporter alan wonk has wong has more. >> willie dixon says the

speeding car jumped the curve ran down the sidewalk, and ran over his feet while he was waiting for a bus. >> i'm very lucky to be alive. >> reporter: police say the car drove between these two poles and struck a group of five people from behind. three women and two children including a 4-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy. >> i heard all this screaming and the car aimed right at them. and there was no way they could get away. it was terrible. >> reporter: police say the driver dragged two of the women under his car, leaving behind a trail of their belongings. a passing tow truck stopped and the driver lifted the car off the women. one of them died. police say she's the mother of the 4-year-old girl. >> a lot of people out here are crying screaming. >> reporter: police are investigating witness accounts that the 65-year-old driver was slumped over the wheel at a traffic light, then took off abruptly when the other cars started honking. >> officers are trying to determine whether he is under the influence of some distance or this was a medical condition. >> reporter: police say he

showed no obvious signs of intoxication. in vallejo, alan wong, nbc 7 news. >> also in vallejo, a hit-and-run crash left a man and his dog injured. the car sped away from the scene on sonoma boulevard last night. police tell us the man suffered nonlife-threatening injuries, but his dog is badly hurt. this happened about a half mile away from the accident we just told you about, where a man drove into a group of people. we'll continue to update you on both incidents on twitter at nbc bay area news. two guilty verdicts were handed down to a entrepreneur charged in a road rage incident last year. today a judge found 41-year-old jeffrey smock guilty of felony assault. the victim suffered a broken nose, rib injuries, whiplash and a concussion and required reconstructive surgery. emotions overflowed in marin county after a judge dropped all charges against 72-year-old dr.

james simon who had been charged in a road rage shooting. the judge dismissed the case yesterday, claiming evidence favorable to simon was not presented to a grand jury. simon shot and wounded a 70-year-old man, who had followed him after the road rage incident last july. oakland police are looking for a suspect connected to a shooting yesterday. police say the suspect shot three men during an argument around noon on lakeshore avenue near east 18th street. all three are in the hospital, but are expect to be okay. 8:04 is our time. funeral services will be held today for two of the six irish students killed in the berkeley balcony collapse. the bodies of the other four students are being flown back to ireland tomorrow. meanwhile, two of the seven students injured in the collapse are expected to make a full recovery. abc 7 news reporter janet o. has the latest. >> reporter: irish officials say they are thankful to all of the love and support pouring in from all over the world. they say that love can be found at the hospitals where seven of

the injured irish students are recovering. jimmy deanahan minister visited patients and thanked the hospital staff for their concerted efforts and care. >> people have really expressed their concern, because this is something that has never happened before. >> reporter: a grief-stricken country, finding their strength in the young students who are fighting for their lives. officials say their spirit has not been broken. >> a very touching movement. a moment just the other day when the two students, the patient students got together and saw each other for the first time and came to the hospital. >> meantime, volunteers in berkeley continue to offer counseling for those in need and this small but heartfelt group say their doing their part to make sure tuesday's tragedy never happens again. >> we would like the city to put -- have a moratorium on building, until they have had a chance to inspect all the buildings that were built

recently and make sure that they are safe. >> reporter: the city of berkeley says its inspectors are hard at work trying to find out what went wrong and provide some answers for the victims' families. in berkeley, janet o., abc 7 news. >> the funeral service will be held today for ashley donahoe and olivia burke of ireland. two were cousins. the service at st. joseph's catholic church is open to family and friends. the latest now on the antioch water park where more than 30 children got sick thursday. the park will reopen today, but the sport pool will stay closed. environmental health inspectors have been at the pool checking out possible causes. the amount of chlorine in the water was high, but not considered dangerous. inspectors are now checking how chemicals were stored and delivered to the water park. oakland was a sea of blue and gold yesterday, as warriors fans packed the streets for the team's victory parade. under a shower of confetti, fans

welcome back everyone. the time right now is 8:12. thanks for starting your day with abc 7 news. we're taking a live look outside at san jose, where temperatures could reach the 80s today. we'll get a check of the full weather forecast, coming up in just a little bit. president obama will be flying to palm springs for a weekend of golf later today. after finishing up a quick one-day stop in san francisco. the president attended a mayor's meeting and two fund-raisers with the events in south carolina on his mind. abc 7 news reporter sergio quintana has more. >> reporter: the president's thoughts were with the citizens of charleston south carolina and the latest mass murder at

the hands of a gunman. >> you don't see murder on this kind of scale, with this kind of frequency, in any other advanced nation on earth. >> reporter: he urged mayors to return to their respective cities and rally for reforms that will curb gun violence in america. following the meetings with mayors, two fund-raisers, including one at the sea cliff home of hedge fund millionaire, ted steyer. >> typically, we've been able to stay across the street and watch him exit the limousine and caught glimpses of him, but this time the officer said we couldn't even leave the house. >> reporter: the president avoided staying at the intercontinental hotel during his last visit, because of complaints about security diversions during rush hour traffic. this time, the traffic jam was back. >> how long you been in traffic? >> 25 minutes. >> the president's in town and the detour for the closure or

forest is now blocked. so that's very -- that's fun. >> reporter: in san francisco sergio quintana, abc 7 news. democratic presidential hopeful hillary clinton attend the mayor's conference today. clinton will follow her appearance with a fund-raiser in the mission district of the home real estate broker, rick hills. the time right now is 8:15. a suspected mass murderer has come face to face with his alleged victims' families. dylann roof has been charged with nine counts of murder. he's accused of opening fire on a bible study group. abc news reporter steve osams ani has the latest. >> reporter: a judge decided to keep him locked up with a $1 million bond. >> charged with nine counts of murder, one count of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. >> reporter: while off-camera, the families of the nine people he's accused of murdering at a bible study were speaking out with surprising compassion for roof. >> you could hear their ever word the daughter of ethel lance, speaking to him directly.

was my big sister. and everything she did i wanted to do it too. >> reporter: a near-capacity crowd came to this college basketball arena for a vigil. >> we would love it if you would think about the nine names. >> reporter: and prayed for the dead friday night. >> if that young man thought he was going to divide this community or divide this country with his racial ahatred, we are here today and all across america to resoundingly say he measurably failed. >> reporter: the families here are still waiting for the medical examiner to finish his work, so that they can begin to plan funerals. >> the victims are also being honored a to the oldest ame church in oakland. pastor harold mayberry of the first ame church personally knew the pastor killed in charleston as well as some of the other victims. as you can imagine the shooting has hit him hard, which is why he wants to convene bay area faith leaders for an honest talk

about race. >> what would cause a 21-year-old young white man to be that angry? he was not alive during the civil rights struggle. he wasn't arrive during slavery. so what is it? >> tomorrow, the first ame church in oakland will begin raising money to help bury the charleston shooting victims. as the search for two escaped inmates in new york goes into its second week a corrections officer has been put on leave as part of the investigation into the prison break. the corrections department did not say who or why the officer was put on leave. richard matt and david sweat used power tools to break out of the maximum security clinton correctional facility back on june 6th. also this morning, there may have been a sighting of the two killers, about 300 miles away from the prison. a former white house chef is missing in the mountains of new mexico. 61-year-old walter schiva was born in oakland and served for 11 years in the white house as

the executive church under republic and george w. bush. he was last seen setting out for a hike and search and rescue workers found his vehicle at a trailhead. rough terrain is hampering the search. abc 7 news was at san francisco city hall last night for a musical celebration of the building's 100th anniversary. more than 100 acts honoring san francisco's rich musical tradition performed on two stages. the celebration also included quite a light show, which began just after 9:00 last night. the 1915 opening of city hall coincides with the pan pacific international expo, which helped mark the city's rebirth following the 1906 earthquake and fire. a lot of people went out for that event last night. >> yeah, we had some pretty nice temperatures, and today will be just as nice. in fact, it will be warmer in our inland eastbound. just by a 23 degrees. and today the warmer day of the weekend, where numbers will be

in the 80s and 90s in our inland eastbound. but you're probably noticing the high clouds around the bay this morning. we do have partly sunny skies to mostly sunny conditions, everywhere. and the warm-up will be quick today, with temperatures already in the 60s in our inland eastbound. so there is a little fog at the coast. it remains there. you can see the hay from vollmer peak here. it will be warm today and after a slight cooldown the heat does return into that first full week of summer. 61 in san jose and morgan hill, as well as mountain view. 57 over in oakland. a nice day for our bayshore and from our exploratorium camera. the high clouds here but sunny in san francisco. 55 for santa rosa and petaluma. it was in the 40s there earlier so a little cool, but take a look at the 60s from the delta with a very light wind. concord, 64. 6 63 in livermore. it's going to be warm today the further east you get. and here's an indication of that with temperatures in most areas,

warmer. 5 degrees warmer in santa rosa. that onshore push has backed off a little bit, and that will continue throughout the day today in the northbound. 4 degrees warmer than you were this time yesterday in concord and san jose. the coast is the only spot that's a little bit cooler. you can see that marine layer is a couple hundred feet deep and it will remain that way at the shoreline today, allowing for those cool numbers around the bay. so partly cloudy this morning a wide range of temperatures. the spread, about a 30 to 35-degree spread and we're looking at temperatures coming down about 46 degrees tomorrow. so it will be rather typical at the coast today with the fog here. you can see highway 1 and half moon bay at 60. san francisco, 64 a nice afternoon with a west wind up to 15 miles an hour. you head over the bay 70 in oakland, but you head over towards pleasanton, walnut creek, upper 80s. and some 90s closer to brentwood, with antioch at about 92 degrees and near 100 in the

sacramento valley. so the setup is this. we have a few high clouds streaming in but the winds will keep it breezy at the coast, and this weak weather system allowing for the coolest day to be monday. so a slight cooldown tomorrow, and that continues into the first part of the workweek. 103 in fresno and the heat continues from inland areas around san diego. a high fire danger in the lake tahoe area at 85 degrees. temperatures in the upper 90s around chico. so locally we're looking at numbers in the upper 70s, from palo alto low 80s for san jose. 74 in san mateo. fremont, checking in at 76 with vallejo getting warm at 80 degrees. if you're headed into oakland today, should be a very nice afternoon, with plenty of sunshine, upper 60s 1:00, with the west wind, 70, at 3:00. the accuweather seven-day forecast shows almost as warm today, in fact, a few degrees warmer inland and the cooldown for father's day, summer arrives at 9:38 in the morning.

welcome back, everyone. take a look at this amazing video from florida. it shows at least three water spouts off the coast of ft. lauderdale. they formed yesterday morning, lasting about an hour. the spouts were about 10 feet wide and had winds between 65 and 85 miles an hour. thankfully, though they did not

cause any damage. departing flights at the nearby airport had to just their takeoffs, though. a scary moment for two air performers in the uk. the pair was performing at the white haven air show when one of their parachutes failed to deploy during a display. fortunatelily, one of the man's grabbed his team's parachute rope and was helped safely to the ground. they were unharmed. still to come a celebration like no other in oakland. more on the warrior's victory parade and the dedicated fan that came out in full force. and want to make sure you're saving enough water? an easy way to

t half past the hour on this saturday morning. it's great to have you with us. i'm chris nguyen. here's meteorologist leea argueisa argen with a look at what we can expect. >> it's mild to start this last full day of spring with temperatures here in san francisco, in the 50s. you can see how the sunshine and the sun on the bay there. 64 by the delta with that south wind really pulling back. that's why the numbers are going to warm up today, already in the 60s, in concord, and looking at a pretty nice beach day in santa cruz there, numbers in the 70s. so temperatures today from the upper 50s to mid-60s in san francisco. look for 70s to 80s around the bay, and plenty of 90s inland. we'll pinpoint where those 90s

bus, who was just taken from the milpitas library. the child was with a stranger 23-year-old alfonzo eddington, the accused kidnapper. tim slyly slowed down his ride to give fremont police enough time to meet him at the b.a.r.t. station where the boy was rescued and reunited with his family. since then tim has been overwhelmed by a grateful community. >> they just come up to me and shake my hand, were you that bus driver? thank you. i have my own child that rides vta bus skpfservice and knowing they'll be safe with an operator such as you're. >> reporter: the vta also honored law enforcement officers and other vta officers involved in the rescue. a kidnapping that could have ended so differently is now a chance to celebrate what happens when ordinary people act in an extraordinary way. >> well everybody is just extraordinarily grateful to have this outcome. i mean it's immediately clear just how significant it is and we're just so glad to be part of being able to see this end safely and reunite the family.

>> it's just amazing, the kind words and everything that's coming to me, just someone who does this job, but also as a parent who took action and did what needed to be done. >> matt keller, abc 7 news. a chp officer confiscated 70 pounds of illegal fireworks yesterday after pulling over a speeding driver. the driver was traveling east on interstate 580 near fruitvale valley in oakland when he was pulled over. the officer searched the car after learning the man was on probation. the driver was arrested shortly after. officials are reminding people that we are in a serious drought and to only use fireworks in areas where they're allowed. most water districts in the bay area are asking their customers to cut their water use by up to 30%. michael finney has a way you might be able to do that and save some money too. >> there are a lot of ways to reduce your water usage indoors. >> cut down on your shower make sure you're conscious of using

your kitchen or bathroom faucet, your washing machine. make sure those have full roads. >> reporter: abby figarora is the spokesperson for eastbound mud. >> we can give you a free showerhead. these are actually more efficient than a lot of the ones you see out in homes right now. >> reporter: this flows at 2 gallons per minute. eastbound mudd is also giving out free faucet aerorator. >> it will flow at 1 1/2 gallon per minute and this is a bathroom faucet aerator. >> most also give out dye tabs to test your toilet for leaks. >> you put it in the tank and if the water in your bowl turns blue 15 minutes later, you have a link. >> if you have 20 sprinklers that's the equivalent of 20 showerheads. >> we water a lot less than we used to, and the yard, and as you can see, the grass is pretty brown because of it.

that a lot of folks don't like the heat they do and we'll have that, but the marine layer being compressed, it will influence san francisco, the shoreline, and tomorrow, we're going to spread that cooling a little bit further. so live doppler 7hd showing something a little bit different. it's the high clouds. and you look outside your window, you probably can see the high clouds. so anywhere from partly sunny to mostly sunny right now. but that marine layer is shallower, just a couple hundred feet. so there isn't any at all here at the boardwalk, santa cruz where temperatures will be in the 70s again today. 53 in morgan hit. it's 54 with the fog along our local coast and 57 in oakland. so the exemployer toirm camera it looks pretty good out there with the sunshine in the city. it's 55 up in santa rosa. 64 over by the delta. you're on your way to the 90s again, and some of our inland valleys will reach the 90s, so getting kind of toasty there. future tower showing the low

clouds, the high clouds, and we will have more sunshine in san francisco today, but it's not going to be hot. it will be comfortable. we'll call it partly cloudy this morning with a wide range of temperatures, wider today than tomorrow because with a deeper marine layer and a stronger onshore push for your first day of summer it's going to be turning cooler tomorrow for father's day. but the coolest day of the week will be next week. i'll show you when, in just a momentum. so we've got several areas of high pressure off the coast and low pressure inland and as the air flows from higher pressure to lower pressure, we have that study onshore flow. and that will keep it pretty comfortable around the city today, but don't expect any sunshine at our beaches. san jose should be in the low 80s for this time of year. that's where we were yesterday. today, really very little change. it's tomorrow you drop off into monday, and then you begin to recover on tuesday, but back into the 80s for wednesday. thursday, friday getting hot, in the mid-80s. so feeling, yeah a little bit
