>> good morning on this father's day, sunday, june 21st. i'm chris nguyen in for carolyn tyler. let's start with a first look at the forecast. here's meteorologist lisa argen tracking doppler hd. >> hi, chris. just three hours of spring left. the summer solstice arrives at 9:39. we are looking at a lot of cloud cover. the on shore flow increases and a live look outside. 5:48 was the official sunrise. at about 1,000 feet deep, you can see the marine layer lit up by the morning sun. 59 in mountain view. 57 in san jose. half moon bay 4-mile visibility at 55 degrees. and the fog will clear by midmorning to about noontime san francisco. but but we are cooler. notice the reds and orange well out into the sacramento valley. upper 70s for the east bay friends and maybe a few low ohl's.

50s on the coast. but a warmup for the first week of summer. that's on top. we will talk about it and show it to you in a few minutes. chris. >> thank you, lisa. developing news out of antioch where police found a 46-year-old woman inside a home suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. it happened on the 1300 block of d street. other pack participants of the are residents are cooperating with place, who were initially called out around 12:30 yesterday afternoon. the woman was later declared dead at the scene >> an unidentified victim was shot and killed while driving near bay point. police say they need help determining what led up to the shooting. we have the story. . >> mary smith saw a massive backup on eastbound highway 4 as she approached pittsburgh. >> it was like a parking lot. i wasn't going to take that chance. >> she pulled over before reaching the closer. >> there was a shooting on the freeway.

>> sounds like they were on the far right side of the highway and the victim went across all lanes and hit the center median. >> is that right after 3:00 people called 911 as the car traveled some 300 yards before crashing into the median. >> there are about three holes in the vehicle that we could find. >> chp shut down the highway and the male driver was pronounced dead on the scene. >> only moved a couple inches every few minutes. it was terrible. >> it took elaine two hours to travel 3 miles. many people lost their patience. >> they were getting aggressive and using the shoulder. >> the lieutenant said bullet casings shattered. there was no option but to shut down all three points. we are getting it all cleaned up and package all the evidence so we can do justice for the victim's family. >> the highway opened around 9:00 some six hours later. >> at this point investigators don't have a distinct description of the shooter or the shooter's vehicle. in pittsburgh, abc7 news.

now to a search for answers in oakland. police want to learn more about the deadly shooting of a man by an armed security guard. it happened after the two men got into a fight at international boulevard and high street late friday night. the trouble might have started with the guard asked the man to leave the gas station. detectives had been questioning the guard. 6:03 the time. san jose police are investigating after one person was killed and another was injured when a light rail train plowed into a car last night and it happened at capital and maddon around 7:40. investigators believe the car turned into the path of the train as it headed south along the median of capital avenue. >> the vehicle had made an illegal left turn at maddon avenue, and in the area there's not even a left turn pocket to make that turn. >> the car's driver died at the scene. the other person was alert when they were taken to a trauma center. nobody aboard the train was hurt. police will look at cameras on

the train to learn more about what happened. >> new details in a car crash that killed a woman and injured five others in vallejo. to rose died at the scene and her four-year-old daughter was injured had a car drove on to a sidewalk on sonoma boulevard. police say there was marijuana in the car and the driver had been at a medical marijuana dispensary before the cash. no one has been arrested. there is a service for the berkeley balcony collapse this morning at saint mary's cathedral. the service comes one day after a memorial service for two of the victims was held. a 22-year-old and 21-year-old of ireland were cousins. they fell to their deaths tuesday during a birthday party. katie has more. >> bagpipes lead the procession into st. joseph's catholic church.

two coffins, young cousins. 22-year-old ashley and 21-year-old olivia of ireland. they were as close as sisters. >> they would dress alike and they would try to fool their parents into thinking that they were twins. i don't know how much they succeeded, but they did try to do that. >> they were at birthday party in berkeley tuesday when the balcony they were on collapsed. they were among six young people who died. the cousins body were found in an embrace. >> there was pain and emotion. >> olivia is remembered as kind. someone who always put the needs of others before her own. ashley, equally caring, an excellent student and talented soccer player. >> so fun loving energetic, and determined to always be great. she was such a great spirit. >> the only thing that is making me okay is her smile was contagious. >> they want people to know

this. >> ashley and olivia were two very talented and hardworking young ladies. they had great futures ahead of them. >> at the scene of the tragedy a memorial of flowers and messages continues to grow as strangers come to the site to pay their respects. >> especially being irish. irish have a thing about being family and we are a unit back home. if it's one irish person,ite the whole of ireland. >> and that was katie marzullo reporting. "the irish times" is reported four of the six irish students' bodies will be returning to ireland today. >> we want to take you to a live look at charleston, south carolina. this is the church where they will beholding the first services since nine people were shot and killed wednesday. the service will start in about 30 minutes. now closer to home in oakland organizers of the black lives matter movement will host a rally at lake meredith at 6:00 tonight. meanwhile, it appears accused

gunman dylann roof tried to kill himself after killing the first victim. someone jumped at him and then he started firing at everyone. a manifest stow is connected to him. roof took issue with now george zimmerman had been treated for the killing of trayvon martin. >> he did talk about race. he told me about how trayvon martin case that he didn't agree with it, and that made him upset. >> demonstrators walked down the streets of charleston chanting "black lives matter." in columbia a large crowd rallied against the presence of a confederate flag on the grounds of the state house.

♪ ♪ >> this is abc7 news. time right now is 6:13. we are taking a live look outside at our mt. tam camera. see the cloud cover lit up by the sun this morning. good morning to you on this father's day. lisa argen will have the full accuweather forecast in just a little bit. firefighters across the west will tackle not only wildfires, but high temperatures when they get back on the fire lines today. several major fires are burning

in three states this morning including the 16,000-acre lake fire in san bernardino county. abc news reporter ryan owens has more. >> so much of alaska's wilderness is burning. 85 fires searching the state and 35 homes have burned. blackhawks helicopters, the only way to get to many of the rugged acres. drought-stricken california isn't faring much better. look at the haze over the san bernardino fountains by los angeles. this is the state's largest fire, more than 16,000 acres known as the lake fire. big enough to see from space. on this summer weekend firefighters have kept the flames out of the popular resort town of big bear. the lake fire is just 10% contained and more than 1,000 firefighters are on the front line.

>> the number one priority right now for the incident demander is to keep the fire south of the highway. >> as you see, large parts of the so-called lake fire are burning inside a national forest afford to let some of this go, but the fact of the matter is mother nature is not on their team. more hot, dry weather in the forecast. just what they don't need. >> and madera county, three structures have been destroyed and 900 acres burned. this started after a truck caught fire and the flames spread to nearby brush. at last check the fire is 25% contained. some san francisco taxi drivers are call on lawmakers to level the playing field when it comes to uber and will lyft drivers. they protested yesterday outside the mayors discussion yet. they suffered 42% pay cuts since the two companies started operations. uber said they made significant impact on local communities by delivering reliable and affordable options.

representatives with lyft have not responded to our calls. >> blame it on the rebounding economy. many drivers face delays on highway 101 and it has called for follow lanes along the peninsula. the city-county association of governments has secured more than $16 million to look at different ways to ease traffic. some leaders see toll lanes as a way to speed toll lanes between san francisco and the silicon valley. others prefer carpool lanes say ing follow lanes price out low and middle income drivers. michael phelps appears he's on track to return to the olympics. saturday he got his first victory of the year at a swim in santa clara. the 18-time gold medalist came back this year after serving a suspension for a dui arrest. he is now 29 and missed a 3-peat in the london games by .05

second. a new world record was set in huntington beach. 66 surfers hung loose on a custom built 42-foot board for the record for the most people riding a board at once. video is posted on youtube. they broke the record that was held in australia >> a special event was held last night for local children while listening to great music. abc7 news was at the center in walnut creek for rock the cassa. anchor dan ashley created the nonprofit charity to help bay area children. rock the cassa supports two causes court appointed children's advocates and to camp conquer. it sends underserved kids to summer camp in lake tahoe. >> these are kids that otherwise don't get a chance to cross the bay bridge sometimes, much less go up and spend time in the wilderness of lake tahoe and meet campers from all over the country.

on-shore push. we are looking at more clouds over into the east bay. so that, too, will influence how high the temperatures get. but we will look for things to turn around by midweek. i'll explain come up. live doppler 7hd, widening the perspective here. this is an area of low pressure, a weak one. but this is what is allowing us the cool-down today. the marine layer responding to this stronger on shore push by growing taller, over 1,000 feet. it was just a couple hundred feet yesterday. so changes are here. and from mt. tam the sun up at 5:48. so another nice, long day. and looking at numbers in the upper 50s right now in san jose. 54 morgan hill. mid-50s half moon bay with 54 in san francisco. no delays yet at sfo. oakland 56. temperatures elsewhere are pretty mild from the low 50s in petaluma, usually cooler in the north bay with 51 santa rosa and fog not much of a

problem either. 57 concord and livermore. 24 hours ago we were slightly cooler. so with the low cloud deck we've got a bit of a blanket insulating us. and not much in the way of radiational cool. therefore, we are warmer this novato. 5 degrees warmer and up a k he will degrees warmer all across the bay. but that will change as the second half of your afternoon will translate into cooler weather for sure. mostly cloudy this morning. and except in our inland east bay. the winds have kicked up by the delta. certainly an indication of the cooler air on the way. so for father's day you will teal that in the inland east bay. and then with summer arriving in the next few hours things are going to turn around a bit, as soon as the next 48 hours or so. for today and tomorrow we will remain cooler inland. and that's really the big headline. high pressure right here down in the southern part of the state will begin to expand and that's going to bring the heat back especially in the east bay. highs today in the upper 70s for san jose.

on this mother's day june 21st. i'm chris nguyen. here's meteorologist lisa argen tracking conditions across the bay. hi lisa. hey chris, good morning. you see the little tugboat navigates. looks pretty good out there but it is cloudy. temperatures are in the 50s here. we've got a deeper marine layer. for most of you, you are looking at the cloud cover, except in concord where it's clear. 57 both in concord and livermore. 52 bet huma. we will look for the clearing today but that will bring cooler temperatures. cloudy start in san jose. high necessary the upper 70s. down maybe 5 degrees today in parts of the south bay. more significant cooling in the inland east bay. only a few numbers in the lower 80s. we still have the 50s and clouds on the coast. and we will talk about the first day of summer. we also have a big warmup for the seven-day outlook. that the all straight ahead. chris. >> lisa, thank you. the search in upstate new york

for two escaped murders has shifted about 350 miles. state police received a tip two men resembling them were spotted on a road near pennsylvania. it came two weeks after the men cut through their cell walls to escape from a maximum security prison near the canadian border. a prison worker remains in custody, facing charges of smuggling tools to the two men. >> shootings marred block parties in two different u.s. cities last night. in detroit one person died and ten people wound when had gunfire erupted on a basketball court. and in philadelphia witnesses say a person fired shots into a block party injuring seven, including an 18-year-old girl shot in the neck. a former white house chef remains missing this morning. oakland-born walter scheib hasn't been seen since last weekend. this morning the mystery and the search is intensifying. abc7 news reporter devin with more on the race to find him. >> in these new mexico mountains, the search intensifies for missing iron

store is trying something new. not so perfect produce. we have the details. >> and it's going to look a little different, a little wonky and have it's own signage but it's a way for consumers to have access to producers they normally couldn't get because it was just getting tossed out. >> in fact, the national resources defense council said 40% of food grown in the u.s. is wasted each year. this grocery store say they can help cut back on that waste. >> and some goes to the applesauce manufacturer and many go to a grocery store that meet the standards. and many the in between that aren't the perfect shape or color, but they are just as delicious and nutritious and sometimes those end up going to the landfill because there isn't someone there to buy them. that's what we are capturing the unwanted apple no one paid attention to before. >> there won't be apples when the program launches in july

>> san francisco boasts some of the highest rents in home price bus it's not america's most expensive tourist destination. san francisco ranks fourth when it came to the cost of three night stay, meals, and daily activities. the average cost just over $1900. as for the most expensive city seattle topped out at $2,080. honolulu and boston also cost more than san francisco. dallas tops the list of least expensive places to visit. a fundraiser held in richmond is taking place this week toned support a local community radio station and to help earthquake relief efforts in nepal. this was richmond's waterfront yesterday. you can find many varieties of clothing, jewelry and artwork. three are selling their work to support the victims of the recent nepal earthquake. >> i hope nepal has a positive hope and the relief effort, i think it's not just temporary, but it will go on for many years to come.
