in dublin for the funeral of walsh. >> there was also a funeral service for eoghan culligan. they say he was their sensemaker and peacemaker. hundreds attended the service. an albany police officer still on the job despite a lawsuit he e-mailed a partially nude photo to another officer. they call it revenge porn. officer peter o'connor sent the decade old photo to a second dispatcher. the suit says that dispatcher amy balak shared it with one other person in the department who then notified her supervisors. balak was fired but o'connor still works for the agency. a buddhist monk is credited with saving the life of one of his own. he was upstairs when he saw a

monk attacking a superior. >> there was a little argument and went to a butcher knife. i pushed him out of the way and he ran away. >> he is listed in good condition at highland hospital. the 30-year-old suspect was formally charged yesterday with attempted murder and aggravated mayhem. this has been a busy day for firefighters. flames burned two acres along howell road in martinez. this fire spread very quickly. they called for extra help to keep the flames from reaching any nearby buildings. firefighters stopped a blaze before it reached homes. you see the blackened hills behind those homes. it broke out just after 2:00 this afternoon west of interstate 80.

crews from several communeths battled the flames. it burned about 15 acres. no word on what sparked it. the monitor fire south of lake tahoe has burned more than 25 square miles. helicopters and air tankers are attacking from above. no structures have been damaged but the small town of markleyville remains on standby for possible evacuation. strong and erratic winds have stoked the fire ignited by lightning last friday. if you want to celebrate the fourth of july with fireworks, your options are limited. some fireworks are allowed in just five cities in the bay area. no matter where you live, the crack crackdown is tougher than ever because of the severe drought. david louie joins us with the story. >> reporter: it's incumbent upon

all of us to be saving water. as a result of that crackdowns on illegal fireworks this year will be tougher than ever. firefighting costs and property damage can run into the millions as a result of illegal fireworks. residents who live near dry, grassy areas are concerned. >> you have like the kids in the street. and we've seen issues in the past where 3 doors down the kids were playing and the fire department had to come out because a grass fire started. >> reporter: they are looking into a plan to expand who can issue citations. right now it is restricted to firefighters and police officers. that plan won't be in place until after the fourth of july. in santa clara, fines have been approved by supervisors. it will cost $350 for the first

mobile home park. they'll preserve the buena vista mobile home park. the decision to add more money to the pot comes after the city council approved the closure of buena vista. the three most prominent online retailers are banning sales of the confederate flag and all related merchandise as sales soar. a search for confederate flag on the ebay website yields everything from the flags to jewelry, even pet supplies. ebay amazon and etsy responded following complaints from the public following the fatal shooting in south carolina. here's more on how local businesses are reacting. >> these retail businesses said their decision is consistent with their policy that prohibits items that promote or glorify hatred violence and racial

intolerance. with the controversy around the confederate battle flag judy's flag city decided it was time to stop selling them. the owner was still concerned about talking on camera. ebay today joined other businesses like amazon etsy, walmart, sears and kmart which will now ban sales of the confederate flag and other related merchandise. ebay a spokesman said it's become a contemporary symbol of divisiveness and racism. the movement to do away with the confederate flag has gained steam after the governor of south carolina said it should be removed from the capitol grounds. this following the killing of nine people inside a charleston church by a young man who wanted to return to segregation. this man is from mississippi where part of the state flag includes the confederate battle field. >> it represents slavery,

covering cupertino wine country and all the bay area this is abc 7 news. >> the palace of fine arts is looking for a long-term tenant. san francisco officials will discuss seven options with the public. caroline tyler joins us with more on those options. >> since the exploratorium moved there have been interim tenants including a private school. they want something more permanent. tonight they'll tell the public the options they are considering. for lease a magnificent building by a renowned architect located in one of san francisco's most coveted neighborhoods. it needs some tlc. >> this is one of san francisco's most important and iconic structures. >> reporter: the palace of fine arts was built for the 1915 pan-pacific exposition. it was home to the

exploratorium. that science museum moved two years ago, and the lease for the temporary tenant expires next year. >> i'd really like to see a tenant come in that has a way to transform the house of fine arts, respect its history but really transform it. >> reporter: the district supervisor grew up a block away. any new development also needs to be open to the public and not devastate the neighborhood worth traffic. there are seven proposals from a sports/social facility and arts and cultural pavilion and interactive museum. we asked neighbors for their thoughts. >> actually, i think all of them sound good to me. >> anything sports and gym would be a mrs.plus for me. >> reporter: they'll have to sink millions to upgrade the palace. >> this is about having a stable partner that can invest in the

building so it's around for another 100 years. carolyn tyler abc 7 news. tourists heading to san francisco for the summer will get one last chance to see a museum unlike anything else on the west coast. the cartoon art museum was scheduled to close but the landlord has agreed to keep it open during the summer. it continues to look for a new home. most of us have sent an e-mail we regretted. google is making it easier to avoid that mistake. it's making unsending messages easier. users click on the gear icon and select settings. look for the general tab and enable the undo send feature. the next time you send an e-mail you'll see a yellow box pop up

more than half of the voters registered to vote by mail. tim orozco and mont wynn. city council members are split in their support. could the highly public oosedoosused problems with the takata air bags have been prevented? >> startling findings released in a congressional report. takata stopped conducting safety audits of air bag problems because that were too expensive. those safety audeds stopped the same year they warned of fatally improper welds on air bag inflators. one said not doing anything was not an option. at least eight deaths and one injury have been connected to the air bags since that warning. should uber be able to track you even when you aren't using their app?

research on the benefits of medical marijuana have shown it doesn't work on a lot of sickness sicknesses. marijuana can alleviate pain and muscle stiffness but on the other hand does not work for anxiety and disorders. those who buy it may not get what they expect because the potency can be mislabeled. it's going to cost $1 an hour for street parking marked by orange on this map for three hours or less. drivers can pay 50 cents or less in the green area. city officials are hoping this new payment structure will help ease traffic congestion and

free up more spaces. the college board who missed time when they took the s.a.t. the test booklet said it had 25 minutes and the instructor's panel had only 20 minutes. it could impact high school seniors who plan to apply to college early. it is worth noting the first s.a.t. was administered today in 1926. the test streamlined the process for college applications. previously students had to take a different test for each college they applied to. the s.a.t. was adapted from the iq test from the army during world war i. check out the simple math question in the first exam. if a package containing 20 cigarettes is 15 cents how many
