good morning, everyone. it's 4:5 on this monday morning. back to work. thanks a a lot for joining us i'm eric thomas. >> we're all together so it makes it better. i'm kristen sze. leyla gulen is handling weather and traffic this this morning. >> a lot going on, if you're wondering what your barbecue plans are going to be like for this weekend i will have your forecast in a few minutes. i want to talk about today and tomorrow. as we look along 101, you can see the low cloud layer in the distance. that means we have increasing clouds later on today with the possibility of some isolated showers and thunderstorms. the cooldown is going to come this weekend. you might be more comfortable than expect eded. talk about clear visibility, unlimited most places with the exception of eight miles along the coast. let's see how that's affecting your traffic. as we take you to the richmond

camera, that toll plaza is still light and empty at this hour. we do have some construction and one accident to talk about this morning, but we have this northbound side of 680 so we'll find out what's happening out here. mostly green on the maps so that's good news. we have breaking news overnight. all lanes of 880 are open following a deadly accident that shut down the northbound lanes for several hours had this morning. according to chp, a man in a prius crashed into another car. he got out to check on the other driver and that's when he was struck by another car. that caused another two-car crash. no one else was seriously injured. san francisco is returning to normalcy this morning after more than a million people turned out for this year's pride weekend. three days of events culminated with the gay pride parade yesterday kicked off by friday's supreme court ruling legalizing

same-sex marriage in all 50 states. a sea of people celebrated down market street in one of the most colorful displays the city has ever seen. the crowd was a mix of the lgbt community, families and children. people had different reasons for coming out. >> it to celebrate my friends and family who are gay and lesbian and just the historical time it is right now. >> we accidentally came here on the weekend. we didn't even know it was happening. >> the lead plaintiff in the supreme court case was the guest of honor at the parade. there were many proposals and even a wedding. more people were sellcelebrating than causing trouble at this year's festivities. police arrested 26 people for public intoxication downtown and in the mission. three people were arrested for felonies, nine for misdemeanors one for robbery. three juveniles were arrested for possession of illegal fireworks and these numbers

don't include yesterday which is typically the busier day for police. last year 65 people were arrested for being drunk in public. residents in three counties have to begin following new rules to prevent wildfires during the drought. amy is live with what you need to know to minimize the fire risk around your home. >> reporter: to prevent, cal fire is saying no more outdoor burning will be allowed. no more burning of leavesing and branches. that's in three counties. officials say it's just too dry. and it's going to be heating up for the next few days. firefighters say one less spark means one less wildfire. they had to fight one last weekend. the area is the driest that he has seen in 27 years. 533 acres burned and homes were

threatened and even evacuated. the good news is everyone was okay. and then moving on to get prepare prepare prepared, fire officials are asking that people clear e dead vegetation. you want it to be 100 feet from your home. also they say you need to trim tree limbs like this one that we found here at the cal fire station. that's too low to the ground. they don't tonight a fire to jump from the ground and spread to a branch and set the tree on fire. they want you to trim these. they want you to go ahead and clear the area around your home with this drought conditions we're dealing with right now it's time to gets serious about the threat of wildfires. reporting live abc 7 news. >> thank you. 5:04 now. a new case of animal mutilation in sacramento. investigators are hoping a single clue will lead them to the person who did it. it shows someone. walking out of the white car at the bo of the screen. they left two bags containing five mutilated animals

light rail tracks saturday night. the man who found it immediately called police. >> i saw an animal laying on the tracks. i noticed that it was a small goat. the head was cut off and placed next to the body. >> animal services has found 16 mutilated animals around sacramento this year. happening today, a 17-year-old oakland boy accused of setting another teen's skirt on fire will appear in court as the judge considers reducing his sentence. he used a cigarette lighter to ignite 19-year-old sasha's skirt on fire in november 2013. it happened while he was sleeping in the back of a transit bus in oakland. sasha suffered second and third-degree burns on both legs. he was sentenced to seven years in prison. passengers on the plane that

crashed in san francisco are suing the flight. 53 passengers are receiving $30 million in damages. three teens were killed in the july 2013 crash and more than 180 passengers were injured. the south korean-based airline has settled with 72 passengers who filed a lawsuit in the united states. three people are dead after a small plane crashed into a house in massachusetts. the plane hit the home's roof yesterday about 30 miles southwest of boston. a family of four inside the home was able to get out safely. three people in the plane died though. firefighters had to put out a fire started by the crash. investigators don't know why the plane lost control. a first look this morning at the wreckage of a sight-seeing plane that crashed last week in alaska killing eight cruise ship passengers including two from the national transportation safety board stweeted a picture of the remains of the plane. a team of investigators is

working to determine what caused thursday's crash. the cruise line says the pilot of the plane had a good safety record and had flown for many years. engineers are pouring over data to figure out what caused a rocket to explode moments after launching yesterday. it was on a mission to resupply the international space station. janet is live in the newsroom with the latest. >> the short answer is it's still unclear why the rocket broke apart in midair but officials are calling this a temporary setback. they will use the data to identify the problem, fix it and get back to flight. space x launched from florida. everything appeared to be fine and then two minutes it exploded. 4,000 pounds of food experiments and science cargo critical to research plummeted into the atlantic. officials say the problem started in the main engine cut off.

they say this is an anomaly and there was no indication of any safety issues thus far. >> through the failures, we can learn more and come back stronger and get prepared to really keep pushing the envelope as we move into space. >> astronauts at the space station have enough supplies to last for four months. the federal aviation administration is overseeing the investigation. in the meantime, russia is set to laurvelg the next mission on thursday. 5:08 now. happening today the supreme court will meet for the final time until the fall to decide three remaining cases. two cases focus on capital punishment and clean air. the third the justices must decide if nonpartisan commissions can redraw congressional district maps every ten years. california is one of seven states that took that responsibility away from the state legislature and politicians with a vested

interest in the election result. it's 5:08. leyla gulen is in for mike this morning. you have some changing weather for us. >> i do, we have some moisture that the low clouds could increase and possibly bring some thunderstorms and isolates showers. the models keep changing, so first they were thinking in the morning we might see the thunderstorms. that's been cancelled out. so possibly this afternoon but right now not seeing shower activity over the district. we're seeing showers over the sierra. current temperatures at home are at 56 degrees in san francisco. oakland is at 58. we look towards san jose, you can see the low cloud layer there. possibility of some fog as well. particularly around the coast. morgan hill is is at 55 degrees. now for today the fog is going to subside just a little bit. it will always remain coastline

coastline. as we pick up the radar, we're going to be under sosm cloud cover and fog in those particular vicinities. the rest of the bay area mostly sunshine. highs for today going to be down right hot, but it's going to be broiling by tomorrow, even record setting heat by wednesday. more on that in a few minutes. let's talk about traffic right now and e see what's happening at the golden gate bridge. the zipper track made its way from the tolls. traffic light. we have an extra lane in the southbound direction. going to take it right back over to 880 where the accident has cleared. just before the morning rush started to begin, that accident is out of lanes right now and seeing top speeds 80 from main road. once you get to the bay bridge, it will take you eight minutes from the maize into san francisco. if you're traveling across the golden gate southbound, you're looking at clear conditions from san francisco to sfo. this morning the federal railroad administration will announce a partnership with google in an effort to cut down

welcome back 5:14 a fast-moving wildfire is burning out of control this morning in washington staut. the sleepy hollow fire destroyed a dozen homes. thousands of people have been evacuated. temperatures in that have been in triple digits for days making it especially tough for crews to fight the fire. they are hoping rain in the forecast today will help. rain also helped in the battle against this fire burning in the mountains in san

bernardino county. it charred 47 square miles nearly the size of san francisco, since it broke out 12 days ago. it's 50% contained. people held an anti-gun rally and peace march. dozens of people came out for sunday's rally including families of victims of the massacre in 2014. that's when a e deranged man shot and killed six people before turning the gun on himself. after the rally, participants held a peace march for victims of the charleston church massacre. people wore orange to identify themselves so they won't get shot by other hunters. racing fans have mixed feelings about nascar's plans eliminate the confederate flag from all its events. we were at the race on sunday for jeff gordon's final race before he retires. he doesn't want flags on any property or even in the parking lots. >> it symbolizes oppression to a

a lot of people. i think it's insensitive for them to still have that flag up anywhere at this point. the flag needs to go. >> people should be allowed to display what they want. it's america. people died for that right. . >> the chairman says he's considering his options on how to move forward with the ban. the faa is working a new security measures to keep hackers out of the computers that control your flight. a special panels came up with standards to cover huge jet liners. the work took on more urgency when a cyber attack grounded ten flights at poland's warsaw airport on june 21st. boeing is going even further hiringe inging hackers to see if there are holes in the security. a petition has been filed with the u.s. supreme court trying to recover some value for those cards to borders. they went belly up four years

going to be one of the more mild days this week until thursday comes along. that's when the cooldown starts. here's a look at live we're looking closely at san francisco and east bay. waez pull out, we're seeing a little bit of activity right off to the south and to the east of us. now we aren't seeing any showers at the moment for our particular district, but we're seeing showers for the sierra. we're seeing the possibility of isolated showers and thunderstorms later on this afternoon. we're keeping our eye on that because things have be changing throughout the model forecast. so we'll keep you posted on that. 56 degrees in san francisco. 56 in napa. a little warmer in livermore at 60 degrees. 60 degrees in san jose as well. we do have a bit of a low cloud layer and fog along the coast. but as we move into the next couple of days

morning. a look from our camera it's a gorgeous start to the morning. low cloud layers the sun is starting to come up. i will keep you posted because that's constantly changing. we're thinking this morning we might see a thunderstorm. that's been taken out of the forecast. we do have some showers spotted over the sierra. we are looking at record-setting heat for the next couple days. more on that in a few minutes. a look at traffic. that cloud layer is affecting traffic. we have some fog reported along the coast about 3-mile visibility. as we move inland walnut creek, southbound side traffic is build ing ing. conditions couldn't be clearing as you head away from pleasant hill up to highway 24. a couple accidents, but mostly we are experiencing construction on our bay area roadways this morning. we'll start off with some traffic news here. all lanes of 880 are open again

after a deadly accident that shut down the northbound lanes for several hours this morning. matt keller is live with more on the story. >> reporter: eric the morning commute here on the expressway heading into northbound 880 has picked up. about five hours ago a a minor accident, what appeared to be a minor accident on the freeway led to the death of one person. >> the party got out of his vehicle to check the party that he rear ended. in doing so he crossed lanes of traffic. after talking to the party that he rear ended, he moved back to his vehicle and as he was getting back into his vehicle the assumption is he was struck at that time while he was trying to get back into his vehicle. >> that person died at the scene. the coroner was called here at 12:21 a.m. two cars were involved in the

first crash. two others in the second incident where the pedestrian was killed. all the drivers stayed at the scene. eventually some lanes were open. just after 3:00 this morning, 88 was reopened after the on scene investigation was completed and the vehicles remove l. none of the other drivers had serious injuries. no other word on the identification of the other victim. the alameda coroners bureau is working to identify a man found shoe shot to death. two people saw the body at the park yesterday morning. it was spotted in the bushes just off patterson ranch road. park police officers say the man was shot in the chest and his body was only in the park for a short time. he's described as a hispanic male. police are not releasing any other information about the victim. no arrests have been made. a false report of a stabbing caused major delays at the civic

center bart station following the pride parade. the delays impacted the sfo, daily city and east bay directions around 11:00 last night. police say someone used red pepper spray which bart riders mistook for blood. paramedics were dispatched to the station, but an investigation determined that no one had been stabbed. now to shooting in a church parking lot took place. it happened yesterday afternoon near laurel and brown road. 20 people were fighting, 2 men were shot, another was hit with a hammer. everyone is expected to survive. three alleged sexual assault victim victims plan to file a civil suit against the university of california board of regents this morning. the three were all students at cal when they claimed they were sexually assaulted. they say the school didn't do enough to keep them safe. title ix refers to part of the

educational amendments requiring universities and colleges to combat gender-based violence as a way of ensuring that all students get equal access to education. developing news supervisors are scrambling to prevent county workers from going on strike tomorrow. the county will ask a judge to issue an order to stop the strike. contracts expire tomorrow for 9,000 workers including nurses and other health care providers at valley medical center. union members voted to walk off the job. a state labor board has been asked to block the strike. happening today the city council will consider using affordable housing funds to keep the only mobile home park from clezing. last month the council gave the owner of the mobile home park per permission to sell the property. all 400 residents fasz eviction. last week the board of soop vierz vierz supervisors voted to set aside money to keep the park open. nurses will gather at the children's hospital to express their concerns about a proposed

arena prokt project for the golden state warriors. nurses are concerns the effect it could have on patients and workers. they fear the project would limit access to life-saving care and make it difficult for workers to get to the hospital in gridlock traffic. san francisco's gay pride parade resembled a dance. police estimated more than a million people turned out for the parade. the end of three days of festivities. it was appropriate the man whose case went all the way to the supreme court was at the parade and a special guest of honor. >> i'm just so overwhelmed with emotion right now. it's incredible to feel this

>> absolutely. this morning we are seeing some pretty dense clouds low clouds just starting to vail the tip of the pyramid as we look towards downtown san francisco. now that's bringing smog conditions for most of us. our forecast, though we're looking at a warmer week. record-breaking temperatures for tomorrow and wednesday. those isolated showers and thunderstorms expected later on this afternoon in some parts of the bay area, but a cooldown expected by the weekend and the 4th of july holiday. if you're headed to a bart station near you, you'll find 58 in dublin. 59 in hayward. 57 at sfo. our current wind conditions pretty calm, i would say. calm in most places. 10 miles per hour, a westerly breeze at sfo. mountain view and san jose with those calmer conditions that

in greece this morning both banks and the stock exchange are closed as the country verges on financial collapse. many people spent the weekend pulling their money out of the banks through atms. the greek government unexpectedly decided to pull out of negotiations of bailout talks. tomorrow greece is expected to default on a loan payment and may have to leave the system as a result. chaos erupted on the streets of istanbul after hurled tear gas canisters. parade organizers claimed police stepped in because people are not allowed to march during ramadan. and officials are not warning them about that policy before the parade. back in this country, a strong dust storm slammed the phoenix area yesterday leaving thousands of people without power. these large dust clouds were seen for miles. winds were clocked at speeds of 40 miles an hour or more.
