county hospitals working. bhor news at the top of the hour. the fourth of july this weekend, firefighters are urging people to play it safe in alameda county and most other counties in the area. fire crews on high alert. the concern is double in area where fireworks are illegally sold. the alameda county fire department has equipment ready to go to know what constitutes safe fireworks, we have posted a full list on the website, abc 7 news.com. a fast moving wildfire in washington state destroyed at least two dozen homes and burned four square miles in a day and a half. this morning, firefighters are making slow but steady progress. here's the report. >> hundreds of firefighters in washington state are gaining ground on the so-called sleepy hollow fire but they still have a lot of work to do. it continued overnight and the

firestorm in washington state fueled by dry conditions, triple digit temperatures. in the light of day, incredible scenes of destruction a 3,000-acre fire leaving behind charred earth. so far more than 2 dozen homes, some mansions destroyed. thousands of residents evacuated. >> embers were going from one house to another catching the roofs on fire. >> embers from the massive wildfire have reached businesses sparking explosions and industrial fires. right now across the west, nearly 75 wildfires are burning from alaska to arizona. >> investigators are still searching for a cause of that wildfire. several firefighters have suffered smoke inhalation and heat-related injuries. kenneth moton, abc news washington. those for and against the proposed warriors arena in san francisco will get a chance to have their say on the project going forward. this after a new group of critics took a stand yesterday.

abc 7 news reporter joins us live from mission bay. janet? >> christien some say it's not a good idea but they want to address concerns at a public hearing today that will be held to address and discuss an environmental impact report. a small group of nurse frs california nurses association protested yesterday, saying if the warriors move across the street, traffic would be heavily impacted for patients and emergency vehicles. they proposed to build an 18,500 feet complex in the mission bay neighborhood. there would be 225 events each year. the nurses admit they are not fully aware of what the environmental impact report entails but they wanted their voices heard on this critical matter. >> one of the biggest concerns is during a game obviously, if emergency services is trying to get to a hospital to get treatment they need they might

not be able to get through. >> questions about traffic legitimate absolutely. but scare tactics and frankly, misinformation, that's not helpful for anybody. >> reporter: a warrior spokesperson says there will be dedicated traffic lanes and routes to the hospitals and dedicated parking spots for warriors fans. still a lot of concern and april lot of answers, but if you want to attend that public hearing it's at 1:00 p.m. city hall, room 416. reporting live in san francisco, janet oh abc 7 news. an investigation is just beginning into what caused an indonesian military plane to crash into a residential neighborhood in morning, killing dozens of people. officials confirmed at least 37 people died after the c-130 hercules transport went down in sumatra. the plane crashed two minutes ach taking off. there are reports of as many as 50 people may have been on

board. two coast guard members walked away with minor injuries after a helicopter made a hard landing at sfo yesterday. sky 7 hd checked out the damage to the dolphin rescue helicopter. it flipped over during a maintenance test flight. takeoffs and landings stopped for a while while emergency crews rushed to the scene. a new round of mountain lions in san mateo. the first report friday night around 10:15 from bellevue avenue and clark drive. the cat was then spotted walking through a gate at park elementary school. the lion appeared to be calm and didn't act aggressively. the san mateo hills have long seen big cats but relatively unkman in the flat lands. just last month police chased this one down before tranquilizing it and releasing it near the crystal springs

reservoir. this route may be drawing the animals down to seek food and water. consumer advocates will call for an investigation into why california gas prices are so high. the consumer watchdog group accuses them of manipulating prices to keep the prices at the pump artificially high. they're asking the attorney general to look into it. the announcement will be in berkeley before the meeting of the california attorney general and an energy commission committee. a former night manager of a science camp accused of child molestation will appear in court to enter a plea today. the 27-year-old is also facing charges of making child pornography. he's known as papa bear, he worked at walter west science camp in saratoga. he was arrested last month after law enforcement was alerted by homeland security. he's accused of molesting a child at the camp and possessing pornographic images and videos of children on his computer and

phone. this morning, prosecutors in saah lan owe county will have a chance to give their rebuttal in the case of a police officer shot and killed by a suspected bank robber. the officer was ambushed in a foot chase in 2011. the murder trial of henry albert smith, jr., of fairfield is in closing arguments. his attorney told jurors there is no direct evidence linking his client to the crime. the pastors of oakland will join together today in response to the massacre in south carolina. a white supremacist confessed to shooting and killing nine people during a bible study meeting at a black church nearly two weeks ago. the oakland pastors will join with others from bay area churches to call for unity peace and transformation. a press conference will be held at noon at the first ame church on 37th street in oakland. 4:36 now. macro temperatures in the east bay. >> so true, eric. >> the temperatures will be skyrocketing. right now it's comfortable.

the north bay. 101 south side is a breeze of a commute. not a single problem. but we have issues on the other side of the water. i-80 in hercules, we have ourselves a mudslide. that is walking two right lanes. so as you're passing by you're going to have to squeeze bottleneck to the left-hand side. i do have drive time traffic for you. if you're traveling the westbound along i-80, that's a 17-minute commute across the bay bridge. if you head to the east bay a short eight-minute commute and we saw how clear it was in the north bay. it stays clear out of san francisco to sfo. christien, eric. alameda county sheriffs deputies will take a time-out to visit and cheer up children in the hospital. many of the kids are lonely and depressed in the summer. they're stuck in the hospital while their families are often preoccupied with traveling or

certificate it owe. >> we went looking around the neighborhood for the cat. >> andrew's cat tabitha is one much several in this neighborhood. >> one of the posters said there were three or four missing cats in ten days. then there was another neighbor that they couldn't find their cat. >> a suspicious bowl of cat food was in his driveway. he's going to have it tested for poison. other missing cat owners are pretty sure they know what's happening. >> he was a really really friendly cat. >> on saturday a neighbor found beth herd's missing cat and sent her a photo to identify it. >> he e-mailed them to me and i could tell it was our cat. it was attacked by a coyote or something big. >> sue roberts says her cat was also killed by a coyote and she saw one in the neighborhood the other day. >> roberts believes the drought is forcing coyotes and other animals to wander into neighborhoods looking for food.

are in police custody this morning. they're being held for questioning after they were accused of operating as an illegal taxi service. engaging in unfair practices and compromising personal data. last week, there were violent protests across france. uber cars were damaged. passengers were threatened. france has outlawed the european version of the app. it's based in san francisco. ron owens announced yesterday he will be undergoing surgery to help ease the symptoms from parkinson's disease. he spoke publicly about his battle with the disease on 87s beyond the headlines and is doing a he spoke about his reaction to the disease. >> it took a while to sink in. you get through it. the shaking was the main thing. >> the doctors at ucsf involved in the procedure are conducting the largest clinical trial of

this is due to a vehicle that hit a pedestrian. and the damage to the car we have some video of it that we'll show you in a little bit. damage is severe to both the vehicle and the pedestrian. we don't know their condition at this hour. 580 westbound, 33 minutes highway 4 westbound. antioch, concord. eric, kristen. >> leyla, thank you. it's 4:55 now. a controversial bill that requires almost all schoolchildren to be vaccinated is now awaiting a signature from governor jerry brown. it applies to public and private school students and children enrolling in daycare. it's among the strictest in the country. if it becomes law -- if passed the state senate -- it passed the state senate yesterday. governor brown has not asked if he will sign the bill. but he has until july 13th to act on it. lawmakers approved a bill

requiring they be paid at least minimum wage if necessity work for pro sports teemts teams. the bill allows them to get overtime and sick leave the same as other employees of the teams. they demanded the same pay and respect as other employees saying they have been treated as glorified volunteers. today united airlines will announce a multimillion dollar investment in the company that could soon power its planes with environmentally friendly biofuel. the airline will invest $30 million in bioenergy in hopes the company can turn farm waste and animal fat into aviation fuel. that's according to "the new york times." fuel is united's largest single expense. this is video of the ecoskies plane which is flying and uses biofuels. southwest, alaska and british airways are also investing in
