as we look at the san mateo bridge, that drive is doing fine. you can have that extra cup of coffee and head out the door because traffic is still quite light. action accident-free. the golden gate bridge, the tolls are going up. but also it's very foggy. you have to put the low beams into commission. we're at a clear drive from marin to san francisco. we are following breaking news where a union deal stopped a strike involving thousands of workers at least for now. abc 7 news reporter matt keller is live in san jose with what's happening in santa clara county now. matt? >> kristen, they've got a deal. it still needs to be approved by membership and the union. check out this tweet sent out by local 521, it stays no strike today. tentative agreement reached. voting time locations to come. congratulations to our negotiating team for standing strong. this deal was completed about two hours ago.

about 9,000 employees were scheduled to walk off the job at 6:00 a.m. no contract was in place. this is the biggest union of the county. about half of all county employees. a judge i approved an injunction keeping 475 employees who were essential on the job. from 911 to juvenile hall. that is not necessary with this deal in place now. this is for four years. recent contracts have been for only two years. reporting live in san jose, matt keller abc 7 news. matt thank you very much. the effort to land a new arena for the warriors is not smooth sailing. issues being raised about the environmental impact from all the traffic it could bring. just down the street from a hospital. abc 7 news reporter janet o is live at the proposed site with more. janet? >> reporter: eric, so you're looking at the area here, mission bay. >> reporter: ucsf hospital is behind us. and the new arena would be across the street. well, some nurses from ucsf say the new proposal to bring the

arena here would gridlock the area. they're not happy about it. they plan to take up concerns later today at a public hearing at city hall. an environmental impact report will be discussed and in that environmental impact report traffic plans will also be detailed. now, a small group of ucsf nurses from california nurses association protested yesterday saying that the warriors if they move across the street, traffic would be heavily impacted for patients and emergency vehicles. city officials, developers and team owners proposed to build an 18,000-seat complex in the mission bay neighborhood, there would be 225 events each year and the nurses admit they're not fully aware of what the viefrmt al impact report says and their voices heard on this critical matter. >> one of the concerns in the game if emergency services are trying to get to -- hospitals to get the patients the critical care they need, they might not

calderon. they left at noon on sunday and was last heard from that night. he thought he was in the san francisco area, but last telephone activity was traced to san rafael. he takes several medications and could be at risk without them. he was last seen driving an acura tl. license plate 6 ucj 824. the apartment balcony that collapsed killing six people in berkeley passed a private inspection. los angeles times reports that inspector hired by the library gardens apartment complex found no problems with the balcony. the balcony supports, deck, rails and overhangs were all reported in good condition less than a year ago. but last week, berkeley's city engineers said dry rot had weakened the beams that collapsed. they say apartment managers could not provide proof. they did a safety check on every apartment each year as required by law. more money on the table to save one of the last low-income neighborhoods left in the area.

the city council voted to match santa clara county's commitment to purchase the bun a vista mobile home park. the total is $29 million. 400 residents would likely be forced to leave that community if the land was sold by a private owner. a federal civil lawsuit has been filed on behalf of a belmont boy kicked out of class because of his haircut. 6-year-old jaylen broussard attended kindergarten at immaculate heart of marry school. he was sent home in december because his fade haircut longer on top and shorter on the sides his teacher said violated school policy and could be distracting to other students. the mom of the sfu dent couldn't believe it. >> i believe he was discriminated against. there are lots of kids with hair longer in the middle and shorter on the sides. >> the only difference is the texture of his hair. because he's an african-american. >> broussard said e-mail commune kapgss with the school produced no new answers.

she pulled jaylen and his older brother out of school in january and filed a complaint. the santa rosa city council may introduce an ordinance banning smoking practically anywhere in the city. in fact people would not be allowed to smoke e-cigarettes tobacco or marijuana in outdoor service areas lines for atms, bus stops and movie theaters. it would ban smoking in attached homes and city parks. in and out of marin county, the tunnel will be called the robin williams tunnel. they voted to change the name of the waldo tunnel to honor the late actor and comedian. a woman from tiburon started the petition for the name change. williams grew up in the bay area. donations will have to pay for the change in the name. the renaming will come as soon as this fall. it will cost you more to drive across the golden gate bridge. the toll will increase tomorrow july 1st by 25 cents.

outdated and that it's time for change. >> he wants to require overtime for workers who earn nearly $1,000 a week. that's more than double the current threshold. currently employers can skate around paying overtime to salaried employees who earn more than $455 weekly by calling them managers. this proposal will extend overtime protection to about 5 million workers. starting tomorrow almost everyone in california will get paid sick leave. the new law signed by governor brown gives workers three paid sick days every year. home health aides won't be covered. business groups say the law is a job killer and will prevent small businesses from expanding. also tomorrow smoke detectors with replaceable batteries will no longer be sold in california. a new state law requires all new battery-powered smoke alarms to be powered by a ten-year battery. a new study over the morning glass of orange juice. the more you eat or drink

was a last minute deal. the union were scheduled to walk off the job at 6:00 a.m. that union representing about 9,000 workers and the county reached a tentative agreement just before 4:00 this morning. the county executive jeff smith released this statement this morning saying although the agreement has to be ratified by its members, strike has been averted and you can access all county services today and during the weeks ahead. could have been an interesting and challenging day if the employees representing 521 walked off the job. that's about half of all county employees. 475 would have been prohibited from striking because they were deemed essential employees, including 911 dispatchers and workers at the jail and juvenile hall. this latest deal is for four years. recent contracts for only two years. money was a major sticking point along with staffing issues. the next step is for union membership and county supervisors to vote on it. reporting live in san jose, matt keller abc news 7. thank you.

breaking news in san francisco. an lgbt mural has been defaced again. somebody tried to set the mural at 24th and bryant on fire last night. this is the third time in recent weeks it's been vandalized. the mural blends mexican-american images with lesbian, gay and transgender themes. a donor who played for the last replacement gave the galleria enough money to keep replacing it if it was vandalized again. with a blast of triple digit temperatures and the fourth of july this weekend, firefighters are urging people to play it safe. in alameda county and other counties across the area, fire crews are on high alert. the concern is doubled in areas where fireworks are legally sold. the alameda county fire department has heavy firefighting equipment ready to go. to know what constitutes safe fireworks, we've posted a full list on our web sooift, go to abc 7 news.com. new video captures the scope of a fast moving fire moving

through washington state. this drone video posted to youtube shows the sleepy hollow fire being fueled by wind windy and also hot dry conditions. since the start of sunday the fire burned more than 3,000 acres. in the path of destruction, at least two dozen homes, some mansions embers have sparked several industrial fires. several firefighters have suffered heat-related injuries. no homeowners have been hurt but thousands are still evacuated. "good morning america" will have more on the fire and the effort to find a cause coming up at the top of the hour. new details on breaking news we're following in indonesia. the death toll from a plane crash has jumped to more than 100 people and indonesian military c-130 plane crashed into a residential neighborhood in sumatra, 113 people on board. indonesian air force officials say the plane crashed two minutes after taking off. >> two coast guard members walked away with minor injuries after their helicopter made a hard landing at sfo yesterday.

sky 7 hd checked out the damage dalton rescue helicopter. the chop he were suddenly plunged while hovering about ten feet above the ground and flipped over during a maintenance test flight. airline take-offs and landings stopped for a few minutes while fire trucks raced to the scene. helicopters from los angeles will handle search and rescue along the coast for the time being. a new round of mountain lion sightings in the flat lands of san mateo. the first friday night from bellevue avenue and clark drive. the cat was then spotted walking through a gate at park elementary school. the lion appeared to be calm, didn't act aggressively. the san mateo hills have long seen big cats but uncommon in the flatlands. however, last month, police chased this one through downtown and tranquilized it and released it near the crystal springs ves voir. the drought may be drawing them down to seek food and water. el cerrito hills, multiple

cats have been missing. you can find missing pet posters in the area. one cat owner said he wasn't aware there were so many missing cats until his own went missing. >> went looking around the neighborhood and there's posters of missing cats all around. >> one poster said that they were three or four missing cats in ten days. and thin there was another neighbor that said it could be closer to ten. >> many neighbors suspect coyotes may be to blame. he found a bowl of cat food in his driveway and suspected it was poisoned. pastor of one of the largest bay area churches will meet with other church leaders to decide how to move forward with same-sex marriages. it was over the jubilee christian center where all marriages are on hold including traditional ones. the reverend richard told abc 7 news he won't perform same-sex marriages under last week's ruling. churches are not required to

it's 6:44 now. a proposed new arena for the warriors in san francisco is met with controversy. concerns about gridlock traffic and environmental impact there are plenty of complaints to go around. >> reporter janet o is live with more on where those will go today. janet? >> reporter: kristen, there is new opposition this morning from the mission bay alliance who say the environmental impact report shows that several major intersections here in mission bay would be gridlocked if the warriors arena is built here. now, this group and other opponents will be going to a public hearing later today. just yesterday, a small group of

ucsf nurses protested arena plans. they say traffic would affect patients and emergency vehicles trying to get to the hospital during gamedays. a proposal is calling for an 18,000-seat arena across street from the hospital. the environmental impact report includes plans to ease traffic. >> dedicated traffic lanes dedicated routes to the hospital for people going to the hospital as opposed to going to the arena or any other event. it can totally be done. >> all the nurses love the warriors and support the warriors. but our priority is our patients. >> reporter: opponents insist there will be 200 dedicated spots for the warriors fans. the warriors say they are building more than 1,000. you can attend this public hearing pat 1:00 p.m. at city hall room 416. public comment will be taken until july 20th.

reporting live here in san francisco. janet o, abc 7 news. janet thank you. 6:45 now. united airlines announced a major investment in a bay area biowaste company that could soon power its planes with biofuels. the airline is investing $30 million in fulcrum bioenergy of pleasanton in hopes to turn farm waste and animal fat into aviation fuel. it's the largest single expense. this is video of the ecoskies plane which uses biofuels. other airlines including southwest, alaska and british airways are investing in alternative energy. facebook is expanding again. this time to africa. the social media giant is opening an office in johannesburg, south africa. it has 120 million users across the continent with 80% logging in from mobile. facebook executives hope the expansion will help people and businesses connect even more. apple's music streaming service is available today. it's free for the first three
