we won't shoot the messenger, drew. >> that's right. i don't like the heat as much as most people. we'll see a good gradual cooldown the next couple of days. right now, visibility issues along the coast. half moon bay less than a quarter of a mile. the dense fog isn't everywhere, but where it is will create slow commuting issues. the day planner shows by the afternoon, hot in spots. the heat advisory in effect again through 9:00 this evening. after that we'll talk about a gradual cooldown with the accu-weather forecast. all right? >> thanks. any problems on the roads? >> not yet which is great news. i don't like to report problems. so we are going to look now at walnut creek. looks like northbound and southbound side moving fine. southbound traffic, taillights we see more of those certainly. but they are moving along at a pretty good rate. here the san mateo bridge. and it's a bit hazy. we have fog over the golden gate bridge. i'll have more coming up.

>> thanks. breaking news now. this is happening in east contra costa county. fire crews are still mopping up after a house fire in brentwood. this broke out on eden plains road just south of sunset around 2:30 this morning. two people were found at the home. they were treated for smoke inhalation and taken to the hospital. crews knocked the fire down quickly. they're trying to determine what started the blaze. count on abc7 news to continue to follow the story for you for up-to-the-minute updates. you can follow us on twitter at abc7newsbayarea. the triple-digit temperatures are putting a strain on california's power supply as well as the health of the very old and very young. local agencies are trying to make it easy for people to find a way to stay cool. abc7 news has more from the south bay. matt? >> reporter: eric a lot of people wake up, reach over, grab their phone, turn on their abc7 app weather app and find out how hot it is. right now it's 65 degrees, clear conditions here in san jose. that's not too bad. a lot of people want to head to

dawn here early as they're making travel for the morning commute. they want to make sure that they stay cool. our meteorologist says to expect similar condition in the south bay today. we'll be in the low 90s. it may be a little bit more humid. so it may feel hotter. the hot spot, the east bay 108 degrees when the 9-year-old little league all-stars hit the diamond. they canceled practices, but the games went on. in brentwood the conte that loma reservoir was a good place to cool off. when they opened there was a line of people waiting to get in. >> it's getting real hot. and the heat's kind of unbearable unbearable. it's good to come out and refresh yourself. >> reporter: at the alameda county fair in pleasanton, the first aid station saw a steady stream of people showing signs of heat exhaustion. an elderly woman was rushed in on a wheelchair and a fair worker sat under the misters feeling nauseous.

pay $6.25. if you pay by cash, it goes up to $7.25 if you don't have fast track. those driving in the carpool lane will pay $4.25. golden gate fares went up by 50 cents and bus fares by 5%. the cost of riding muni is going up for many. the discount fare for children seniors and the disable sudden going up from 75 cents to $1. monthly passes are increasing by $1 to $3 depending which version you have. the basic adult fare will not change. cable cars will cost $7 to ride. that's up $1. ferries won't escape, fares going up from five cents to 40 cents as well. the increase will vary from route to route. according to bay area ferry official, the hike is part of a five-year program to offset projected increases in operating costs. for a complete list of increases, go to our website,

abc7news.com. your next trip may cost you more money as well. the u.s. national parks service announced the entrance fee to the redwood forest in marin will increase from $7 to $10. on january 1st 2016. the marin board of supervisors yesterday also approved new parking restrictions. the plan is to eliminate parking on the road near the woods and establish a car reservation system. today a judge will resume a hearing on a restraining order filed against the alameda county d.a.'s office. it was filed by the builders of the berkeley apartment complex where a balcony collapsed two weeks ago killing six people. segway construction wants to keep investigators from examining evidence without them being present. also newly released city records show an inspector hired by building management rated the structure components in good condition last august. the city of oakland finally has a budget this morning but not everyone is happy with it. this is video of one of the

ruckus meetings at the city council after the $2 million budget was passed. it allows the hiring of 40 more police officers and gives compensation for employees who took cuts during the recession. advocates for victims of human trafficking complain that they did not receive enough from the budget. july 1st is also bringing with it a rate increase for trash service in oakland. the rate for single-family homes is going up 24% to nearly $37 a month. apartment buildings will pay 30% more. today will also see the start of the city's zero waste program. composting services will now be available for everyone which means those green bins will be popping up everywhere. today we will learn just exactly how much the 49ers will have to pay in taxes for levi stadium. they've been there for four years in santa clara the stadium will be assessed so the team can begin paying taxes to santa clara county. levi's is also using for

concerts games, and college football. the stadium was built with $1 billion worth of loans. most of it from the city of santa clara. it's 5:08. new this morning the state department has released nearly 3,000 pages of hillary clinton's e-mail during her first year as secretary of state but there are flow no bombshells. some we'll do a fax machine problem making sure her blackberry is on and asked for iced tea. the document release follows month of controversy over clinton's use of a private e-mail address and private server for conducting government business. republicans accused clinton of using the private account to avoid public scrutiny. released this morning for some 1 200 residents chased from their homes from a wildfire. all evacuees returned home yesterday. crews reporting 85% containment of the fire near lompoc. it charred 328 acres. a much different story for people living in the line of fire in washington state. this wildfire has burned at

welcome back. july 1st bring new laws including smoke alarms. starting today, alarms with replaceable batteries will no longer be available. the law states battery-powered alarm must be using a sealed battery. that avoids the low battery chirp. two argentinian commercial pilots are out of jobs after they let a "playboy" play dsmate fly the plane. they let her fly the plane while there were 36 passengers board. as you see, the "playboy" model

that's causing visibility issues. do slow down. we have an extra lane southbound. quiet everywhere else in the bay area. number four, the fbi will try to get to the bottom of the latest in a string of attack on bay area fiber optic cables. the latest came yesterday in alameda county. somebody climbed out into a vault and cut the wires that cut internet service to the sacramento area. this is the 11th attack this year in the east bay. we have a former state senator, leland ye will be back in court and may enter a plea in his federal corruption case. he pleaded not guilty last year to settle charge including bribery and money laundering. six the preliminary investigation shows this fire at a historic black church in south carolina is not arson. the mt. zion ame church went up in flames last night. this is the seventh black house of worship in the south to burn since nine people were killed at a service in charleston. number seven, breaking the law all to get the perfect selfie. look at this. a tennessee tourist climbed on

gate toll and fori which operate the golden gate bridge sausalito and larkspur ferries, san francisco bay ferry operating from oakland, almead aand vallejo. and -- alameda, and vallejo and cable car rides all going up. the golden gate bridge toll increases 25 cents today and will continue to go up until 2018. this is part of a five-year plan that's been approved by board members to reduce a budget shortfall. you may remember two years ago they eliminated toll booth employees. so what you can expect if you have a fast track -- your toll will go up from $6 to $6.25. if you don't have a fast track and occasionally drive over the golden gate bridge this is called a license plate account. and the rates are $1 higher at $7.25. you get billed later in the mail. those who carpool pay the least at $4.25. we spoke with commuters this morning who say they will gladly pay more to use public transportation, for the convenience to get to and from work.

>> i think it's justified. we need it. you know you can tell it's justified because the parking lot is absolutely full by 7:30 in the morning. everybody wants public transportation. it's just -- i wish we had more government funding for it. >> reporter: and this is what jerry, who you just saw, is talking about at this hour. the parking lot starting to get full. transportation officials expect to lose very few riders with this latest fare hike. people say it sure beats driving and paying for gas, especially driving during rush hour where it would take them longer to get to work. reporting live at larkspur, abc7 news. if you drive, you may find gasoline a few cents cheaper not because of a drop in oil prices rather california's gas tax went down six cents at midnight. the excise tax is recalculated every year based on how much gas we've used the year before.

state leaders warn that changes in supply and demand and fluctuating oil prices could eat up the price drop. the heat wave continues today. part of the bay area are expected to hit triple digits again. temperatures hit 108 yesterday at the alameda fare in pleasanton. the first -- alameda fair in pleasanton. the first aid station saw many visitors. an elderly woman rushed in in a wheelchair, and another worker under the misters, disoriented and nauseous. student exhibitors try their best to keep livestock cool. the things that controls california's power supply declaring another statewide flex alert for today. the independent system operator is asking residents and businesses to cut back on electric use between 2:00 in the afternoon and 9:00 in the evening. pg&e is urging customers to reduce energy use during the time period when air conditioners drive high energy use. yesterday was the first time cal iso has issued a flex alert in

two years. the blazing heats is creating prime condition for wildfires. we just got an update this morning on this ground fire near gilroy. so far it's burned 50 acres and is 50% contained. sky 7 hd captured the flames tearing through rugged terrain off highway 101 yesterday. no structures are threatened. firefighters watching for flare-ups from a grass fire in benecia. a car caught fire beneath the bridge spreading to brush. the highway patrol closed two lanes of 680 for a while. firefighters got the fire under control in less than an hour. thevey on firefighters assist -- the vallejo firefighters assisted and shot these photos. you can track the high temperatures any time with the abc7 weather app. get it free from apple's app store or google play. we values more information at abc7news.com/apps. 5:34. a series of water rate increases begin today for east bay mud customers. last month the board voted to add a 25% drought fee to every

customer's bill to cover the additional costs water supplies. the utility also approved an 8% permanent increase to replace its aging infrastructure. start offing today -- starting today, the average homeowner will pay $13 more a month. the goal is to reduce water use 20% districtwide. for the 11th time in the past year, someone cut fiber optic cables in the bay area. the fbi is investigating this morning. the cords were severed at an undisclosed location in alameda county yesterday. investigators say the vandals climbed down a manhole into a subterranean vault and cut the lines. it knocked out phone service and internet to thousands of people in the sacramento area. since july, 2014, fiber optic lines in fremont, san jose bushily, walnut creek -- berkeley, walnut creek, and alamo have been cut. redwood city tenants hope local city leaders can provide hope now that they're being evicted by their landlord. the families rallied to gain support for the situation. rent has been raised on their apartments on clinton street.

they can't afford the revenue and can't afford to move anywhere else. they're trying to cooperate they say. >> we want to meet them halfway. we plan on negotiating with them and not having to go to court. >> we're not trying to be jerks. we want to move. we just can't find something we can afford. >> eight of the 18 families have decided to stay despite the eviction notice. they plan to meet with members of the redwood city council tomorrow. one advocate says in order to stay in their apartments, tenant will have to earn $45 an hour. a number of new laws take effect across california today. 6.5 million part-time workers will be entitled to at least three paid sick days every year. it affects household employees. drivers for on-demand ride services such as uber and lift will have to carry a minimum level of insurance. lead ammunition is banned on all land over which the state fish and wildlife has jurisdiction. and all smartphones manufactured from today on must have a kill switch that you can use if it's

good morning, everyone. 5:42. a look from twin peaks toward the city fluffy clouds off there to the left side of the screen. as i was looking at sfo, clear. more in the weather coming up. happening today, san francisco city leaders will hold a rally support of an lgbt mural in the mission district that's been vandalized several times in the past weeks. the mural was most recently set on fire monday night. it's also been spray painted twice in the past weeks. the mural depicts gay couple and a transgender man.

tonight's rally begins at 6:00 p.m. in front of the mural at 24th and vine streets. the fbi is joining the investigation into a fire that destroyed an historically black church in south carolina. tuesday night's fire at the mt. zion ame church was the seventh at a black house of worship in the south since nine people were massacred at a charleston church and since the controversy over the confederate flag erupted. at least one of the fires has been called arson related. this is the second time mt. zion has been firebombed. the klan is blamed for a 1995 blaze that burned the church to the ground. no cause yet has been given for last night's fire but parishioners will rebuild. suv and truck owners in the east bay are being warned to beware of thieves in search of a precious car part. police say 13 catalytic converters were stolen from toyota sequoias and tundra trucks between sunday and monday morning in the eastern part of walnut creek. most toyota sequoias have a dual catalytic system. crooks can get $50 to $200 for

each piece. but it costs owners more than $4000 to replace a converter. >> makes you angry. we're trying to get along and get by. someone can inconvenience you, and thank god our insurance will cover it. >> police say they've reached out to recyclers in contra costa county. most won't accept catalytic converters because so many are stolen. we have new video this morning of a great white shork that appeared just yards from shore on sea cliff state beach. look at the size of it. and this is only a baby. it was seen on monday, and it wasn't alone. at least a dozen more great whites were spotted the same day. and this is video from last friday when even more sharks were seen. expert believe either the warm current or the food supply is bringing the sharks closer to us. a woman suffering from amnesia and cancer is hoping the internet can help her remember her identity. the woman is known simply as sam. she was found in carlsbad near

san diego and has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. sam has an australian accent and has memories of being on a boat. her prognosis is not good so she hopes her family will be found soon. doctors say it's not uncommon for some types of cancer to cause memory loss. the u.s. soccer team awaits the winner of the final. the u.s. got huge breaks after a huge first half yesterday. germany's player missed the penalty kick to keep it tied. ten minutes later, amortization amortizationona the attack gets knock -- alice morgan's attack gets knocked down. she avoided the penalty kick. carly lloyd buried it. with the u.s. up 1-0, they put it away in the 84th minute. kelly o'hara set up for the finish in front. and the u.s. wins 2-0, advancing to the second straight women's world cup finals. they lost the last one but hopefully this one we will take in stylish fashion.

5:52. with the 4th of july holiday coming up, mau you may want to carefully select where you watch the fireworks on that holiday. could affect your health. a study from the national oceanic and atmospheric administration found that fireworks temporarily boost the levels of microscopic particles in the they're can pose health risks including trouble breathing. the levels fall back to normal or fell back to normal by noon of the next day. the agency recommends watching fireworks upwind to reduce your exposure. post traumatic stress disorder may damage more than just the mind. a new study from nurses health found ptsd may put a woman's heart at risk as well.

the disorder can turn small disturbances such as loud noises or lack of sleep into triggers that increase a woman's risk of a heart attack. the study found women who experienced four ptsd symptoms were 60% more likely to be at risk for a heart attack or stroke. this morning a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on alcatraz island as the national parks service unveils its refurbished guard house complex. the $3 million project included work to stabilize reroof, and repaint the guard house library and schoolhouse structures. in addition some historic features hidden for decades were restored including the building's original entrance sign. the unveiling will be held this morning before the public arrives on the island. candlestick park all but rubble this morning. over the former home of the giant and 49ers yesterday. crews have been tearing down the 55-year-old stadium for months. you can sort of make out the field. the goal was to finish yesterday. there's still more to be done before site is completely
